While Pepper’s claim on the property may be uncertain, there’s no denying her claim on AJ’s heart. He’s ready to become a family man. But can he prove it to the one woman who makes his family complete?

Cowboys and babies, that was what sold me on this one right away.

I loved EllaJayne, who always seems to do a disappearing act. She may be the smallest character in this story but she’s also pivotal. Pepper and AJ both think they’re fighting for the same thing. The Property. In reality what they both want is love, family and belonging. It’ll take a pint sized princess to show them the way.

How they go from fighting with each other to fighting for each other was the highlight of this story for me.

The ending and the climax was great, I wasn’t ready for the story to end.

This is the fourth book in the Angel Crossing series. The characters and how they were developed in the book was wonderful. The author did a fantastic job of portraying a small town with all its quirks.

It felt as if the author was building up to something.  I felt as if more was going to happen and then it didn’t. Not saying that any part of it was bad just that there was an intensity that seemed to be leading up to something big taking place in their lives, like maybe the mother coming back to claim EllaJayne or a fire or something. Having said that, the ending is perfectly romantic and satisfying. Overall, I’m glad that I read this book and I look forward to returning to Angel Crossing again.

The Little Dog: A story of good and evil, and retribution.

Bill recounts a week in his early working life when, paired with an older, unsavoury and unpopular colleague, they find a little dog sitting beside the forest haul-road way out in a remote part of the forest. What is the little dog doing there? As the week progresses Bill finds himself becoming emotionally attached to it while also becoming increasingly concerned about just who is his objectionable workmate, and when he notices that the little dog is no longer present at its usual spot his concerns heighten, as he cannot help but feel that his workmate has something to do with the dog’s disappearance. Although a troubled Bill has a conversation with his local priest and learns of the nature of sin and evil, he remains blind to that which is right in front of him. However the very next day events suddenly take an unexpected turn and the young naive Bill starts to learn some awful truths.

They say that paying attention to how an individual treats animals is a great way to know what their character is really like. After reading this story, I’d be inclined to agree with this test.

The fantasy elements didn’t show up immediately. Once the first few hints of them did appear, I was mesmerized by how subtle and open to interpretation they were. While this isn’t the kind of writing style I’d typically expect to find in this genre, I absolutely loved it for this particular storyline. The ambiguity blended in in perfectly with the narrator’s young and innocent outlook on life.

Mr. Garland’s eloquent descriptions of the daily lives of foresters lured me into the plot immediately. He touched on everything from the proper way to cut down a tree in order to preserve as much of the wood as possible to the narrator’s mixed feelings about the gangly teenagers who worked at the ferry. There were so many moments like these that were captured in perfect detail that I felt as though I, too, had spent decades doing this job.

The little dog that Bill found on the side of the road was originally my biggest reason for wanting to read this book. I was eager to know why he was wandering around alone in the middle of nowhere and what would happen to him next. While I can’t say much about this part of the plot without giving away spoilers, I will say that it exceeded every expectation I had for it. The dog was even more intriguing than I thought he’d be, and I was quite pleased with how the author incorporated him and his backstory into what otherwise appeared to be a completely mundane workweek.

There was quite a bit of philosophical musing in this tale about why some people choose to make horrible choices in life and what the difference is between someone who makes one bad decision and someone who is objectively an awful human being. These passages turned out to be my favourite parts of the storyline other than the scenes that focused on the dog. Not only did they fit Bill’s gentle, contemplative personality perfectly, they gave me some food for thought as well!

The Little Dog is one of the best books I’ve read so far in 2016. I’d heartily recommend it to anyone who adores fantasy stories that ask the audience to think critically about what they’ve just read.

When Reggie’s garage became part of a popular reality show, business went through the roof. And he supposes having his shop in the black is a fair trade for jumping through the network’s hoops.

As the show’s lowest-ranking producer, Wes is tasked with proposing a new spin-off show to Reggie. The sexy mechanic makes him sweat on a normal day, but this time, Wes is holding cards he can’t show. With execs breathing down his neck, he’s expected to pitch a show Reggie will never agree to do, even if his rejection puts his existing show on the line.

The network is counting on Reggie refusing to sign. But they’re not counting on their messenger falling for the man they’re trying to fire.

Wes hated being in front of a camera, so he did production instead. He’d only met Reggie, the owner of the garage they used to film Wrench Wars, a few times, but Wes couldn’t help the attraction he felt to the tough, tattooed mechanic. Reggie often finds himself hating the reality show, but his shop needs the gig, and so do his guys. When the network wants to set him up on a reality dating show – a heterosexual one – Reggie had never felt quite to hemmed in by the contract. Can Reggie and Wes manage to negotiate this new problem together somehow?

I found this to be a fun, interesting read. Similar to another Wrench Wars story I’ve read, there is plenty of mechanical, car and gear-head action and description, but not enough to lose me, as a certified non-car-person. And the characters are impressive and really interesting. I found myself immediately drawn into both Reggie and Wes’ different viewpoints. Their problems were interesting to me and I thoroughly enjoyed the voice of the author through the characters. The pace was quick enough that I was eager to discover what happened next and I really found myself enjoying this short story, caught up in it enough that I didn’t want to put it down.

I enjoyed the fact that Wes and Reggie didn’t immediately act on their attraction; indeed the two men weren’t even sure the other was gay for quite some time of the story. I felt this actually helped add to the chemistry and tension between the two men and helped the story along as well.

While there was plenty of plot going on, I felt the author had a good balance between chemistry and plot. Then later when Reggie and Wes finally managed to hook up, the sex was hot and explicit, but not over the top. I found it sensual and really wonderful to read. I personally was a little disappointed that it was a “Happy For Now” style of ending. Reggie and Wes are in a good place, and there’s definitely future potential and a positive vibe in their story’s ending, but it’s not as solid or close to “Happy Ever After” as I’m used to and a small, niggling part of me just felt like their ending didn’t quite close/conclude as strongly as I could have hoped for. Of course, the optimist in me wonders if this is just an opportunity for a sequel, which I would happy devour – were it so.

I found this to be a really good story with wonderful characters I got very attached to and greatly enjoyed. The sex is smoking hot and the plot is interesting and very well written. A great story.

Detective Lindsay Boxer has everything she could possibly want. Her marriage and baby daughter are perfect, and life in Homicide in the San Francisco Police Department is going well. But all that could change in an instant.

Lindsay is called to a crime scene at the Four Seasons Hotel. There is a dead man in one of the rooms, shot at close range. The man checked in under a false name with no ID on him, so the first puzzle will be finding out who he is.

In the room next door are a dead young man and woman, also shot. They are surrounded by high-tech surveillance equipment. Could they have been spying on the man now dead in the room next to them?

And in the utilities cupboard down the hall is the dead body of a house maid. The murders are all clearly linked and professionally executed. But what is the motive behind it all? Lindsay will need to risk everything she has to find out.

Lindsay Boxer thinks she’s finally figured it out. She’s settled into her competing roles of mother, wife, and detective, and has even figured out how to balance the three (mostly) and keep everyone, including her dog, Martha, happy. But is it all a well-constructed façade or does she really have it all? Everything she knows and believes about her life is about to be rattled when a woman linked to the CIA disappears.

From the first pages of 1st to Die, I’ve loved Lindsay Boxer. She’s plucky, she’s smart, and she’s tough as nails. But, when it’s needed, she can be loyal, loving, and the best friend you’ve ever had. This kind of contrast can be rare in a female detective. In 15th Affair, Lindsay is knocked off her game and is walking a thin line between sanity and absolute chaos. As much as I hated to see her so out of sorts, it was a different sort of Boxer to watch.

My one complaint is that with every novel, the mysteries seem to get more and more convoluted. Generally, I don’t have a huge issue following along and understanding everything that’s happening, even when there are two separate cases happening. This time, and it very well could have been me being distracted, I had a hard time keeping things straight, even though the two incidents weren’t similar at all.

I think I probably say this every time I review one of James Patterson’s books, but I adore his work. The Women’s Murder Club series has long been my favorite and this newest installment isn’t any different. Although I was shaken and a little upset by the way it ended, there was purpose and reason behind it. I’m hoping that in the next book we get more information so I can go back to loving a particular character. Even though I wound up feeling a little lost as far as the mysteries went, I still enjoyed this book and can’t wait for number sixteen to arrive.

She soon discovers she also must focus on winning the heart of a handsome firefighter who understands down to his soul the beautiful heiress who lives across the street is used to a life he cannot provide.

Once again, Kristen Ashley has left me stunned at the profound beauty of her storytelling. Soaring is the second book in her Magdalene series, and as much as I loved the first book, The Will, I’m absolutely crazy over this one.

Amelia Hathaway is a rich heiress who has lost everything that really mattered most to her. Her husband was a serial cheater who left her for another woman and after Amelia lashed out in anger she also lost her two children. That was a wake up call so the story picks up when she follows them all the way across country from Cali to Maine to make amends. There was some heartbreaking family drama as they did not make it easy on her, but Amelia was determined to win back not just her kid’s hearts but to make a fresh start in her entire life. On her first day she meets Mickey Donovan the hot firefighter and contractor who lives right across the street. Mickey also has two kids and his own fair share of family baggage. These two were attracted to each other but for seperate personal reasons they fought getting involved with some hurt feelings along the way. A few changes and romantic rivals later they finally give in to desire and are soon burning up the sheets in an incredibly hot love affair.

As usual, the character development was great and progressed as Amelia and Mickey’s relationship evolved into something real. For me one of the singular aspects of this and every Kristen Ashley book is how she makes me feel her characters. She brings them to life with their flaws and perfections and blends them into characters who stick out in my memory. Amelia made neccessary changes in her life to grow into an even stronger woman who never tried to hide her mistakes. Mickey was a very strong character who reminded me of Tack in Motorcycle Man, who just happens to be my all time favorite book boyfriend. I loved that they both loved their children and put their happiness above all else but that they still worked hard at overcoming the obstacles in their relationship.

This is a very long book at 597 pages, but it is so worth the read. It is emotional and steamy and incredibly very well written. The characters are amazing. I loved this book so much ! Believe me when I say it is not to be missed.

Sometimes what seems like an ordinary day at work can turn out to be not so ordinary after all.

I appreciated how much time Ms. Ladnier took to explain the main character’s background story and special skills. Both of them were key to understanding certain parts of the plot, so I was glad to have as much information as I did about where she came from and why she was given such an important job. There is room for a sequel here, but I was also satisfied with how much I learned about her.

Things heated up too quickly between Anais and Savea for my tastes. I would have liked to see more time spent exploring their connection before they started to get sexual with each other. They definitely had chemistry together, but neither one of them came across me to as someone who would want to have a fling without getting to know their potential partner a little bit first.

The science fiction elements of this story were strong. It was fascinating to see how technology has developed in this futuristic universe. Anais explained it all briefly but included enough details for me to understand how everything worked and why the characters relied on certain kinds of technology so heavily. This is the sort of thing I really enjoy finding in erotic science fiction because of how nicely it fleshes out the rest of the storyline.

Anyone who is a fan of both erotica and science fiction should give Elusive Radiance a try.

Can a bastard and a whore find love in each other’s arms?

The fabulous writing team of Emily Minton and Shelley Springfield outdid themselves once again with this novella. I really enjoyed this third chapter in the Grim Bastards MC. Guilty Bastard is a fleeting slice of life that leads up to Smoke’s book. I absolutely loved it and was easily captivated by Lisa and Round’s emotional story.

Round is an integral part of the Grim Bastards MC. He is Smoke’s dad and used to be the VP of the club but has since then stepped down so the younger generation can lead the club. He has an ongoing relationship with Lisa who is the club mama. It’s obvious right away that Round is conflicted about their relationship. I didn’t get why he continued hurting Lisa with his guilt over a dead wife who cheated on him. But I loved Lisa and it made great emotional angst for the story. Of course the drama finally came to the point where Round hurt her enough that Lisa got fed up with being a doormat.

This short biker romance was loaded with emotions and strong characters, even Lisa though at times it may not have seemed that way. Let’s just say that those who love to read about the alpha A-Hole heroes will enjoy this one. As usual, with these two authors, the story was entertaining, well written and fast paced. I was so very pleased with this book.

The Carson dynasty rules the ski resort town of Mammoth Lakes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Founded by patriarch Adam, the town is the site of the Mammoth Cup ski race-a qualifier for the Olympics. But when Wylie Welborn, Adam’s illegitimate grandson, returns after a stint in Afghanistan, it reopens a dark moment in Carson family history: the murder of Wylie’s father by his jealous and very pregnant wife, Cynthia. Three powerful and unusual women have central roles in this volatile family feud: Cynthia, bent on destroying Wylie; his mother Kathleen, determined to protect him; and April Holly, a beautiful celebrity snowboarder, on track to win Olympic Gold. But, as Wylie falls in love with April and they begin to imagine a life away from the violence that has shattered his family, history threatens to repeat itself and destroy them both.

Are things like jealously, greed, and craziness inherited? Are some people just born with crazy blood? That’s the question when half-brothers Wylie Welborn and Sky Carson set their sights on beating the other at the Mammoth Cup skiing competition. But which one will come out on top? Will slow and steady win the race or will the day be won by sheer audacity?

Wylie Welborn was once on top of the world. Now, upon his return home after a long stint in Afghanistan, he’s finding himself at a loss, trying to rebuild the life he’d had before. He’s a complex and interesting character, one I enjoyed very much, in spite of his struggles and inner demons. Although Wylie is content to ski and help out his family, when the chance at love comes around, he throws himself all into the opportunity. I found it interesting how, even though he was the illegitimate son of the town’s patriarch, Adam Carson, said patriarch embraced Wylie with open arms. It was a refreshing approach to an age-old situation. Even Adam Carson’s oldest grandson, Robert, treated Wylie like a brother. Adam’s younger grandson, Sky, on the other hand, had nothing but vitriol for Wylie.

Sky Carson is everything Wylie is not. Although an excellent skier, he’s headstrong, arrogant, and reckless. Aided and abetted in his hatred by his mother, the jilted Cynthia Carson, Sky makes it his mission to drive Wylie out of town, but not before he beats him at the Mammoth Cup. Despite the fact that practically every scene with Sky made me seethe with anger and frustration, I honestly felt awful for the kid. His mother was pregnant with him when she caught her husband cheating – of which Wylie was the result – and therefore spent the first thirteen years of his life without his mother. But the way he internalized all of his mother’s ‘crazy blood’ left me feeling out of sorts at times.

Crazy Blood is a sit on the edge of your seat kind of novel because you never know what kind of crazy is going to crop up next. Even though I have very little interest in competitive skiing, the descriptions were exciting and described in a way that even a novice could fully envision them as they happened. There is one serious twist near the end that caught me completely by surprise and stuck with me long after I finished the novel.

Cold Feet Fever is the novel to choose for pure escapism and light reading.

The characters were well developed although very stereotypical. The romance between the hero, Sam and the heroine, Katie, worked well. I enjoyed watching Katie fight for what she believed in and watching Sam grow from a lazy, selfish, immature boy into a man worthy of Katie’s love. Sam’s grandfather was quite humorous. Sam’s dog, Rex was comical. The criminal connections could have been more elaborated on as it would have made the conflict more serious and less silly.

This book was mostly enjoyable. While I wouldn’t consider it a waste of time, it certainly didn’t hook me to where I couldn’t put it down, which in some ways is a good thing when I have other things I need to do. I was able to get reabsorbed into the story each time I picked it back up. I had hoped to get more riveted as I progressed through the book but the plot was a bit too imaginative for me. I prefer things to be a bit more realistic and plausible. However, this farfetched plot had enough entertainment value to finish reading it.

Even though I had expected the secrets and crime to be more intense and real, the story flowed smoothly and provided me with both predictable and delightfully creative plot twists. The book ended with all the threads neatly knotted and with a happy closure.

Although this novel won’t go on my keeper shelf, I can think of a couple of friends that might enjoy this read. They prefer light conflicts and a strong sense of the silly and Cold Feet Fever delivers both. It would be right up their alley.

He’s content to be in a committed, monogamous relationship although he allows Derek his fun, too. The choices Victor makes and the heartaches he goes through were real for me. I’m not sure I’d be able to man up in the way that he did at times.

Derek Jameson, on the other hand, is outgoing, adventurous, and always on the lookout for his next conquest. Although he often shared these temporary partners with Victor, he didn’t always include him, either. That bit bothered me somewhat, partially because Victor is at a fundraiser when it happens at the beginning of the book. It rubbed me the wrong way that Derek was home while Victor was at something that was important to him.

Antonio is an enigma. Although Derek brought him home, he knows nothing about him, and Antonio’s not offering any information up. I really liked Antonio from the beginning, even if his backstory and current situation was a bit far-fetched. I can get past things like that, however, if the character is relatable to me.

One thing that really bothered me about this story was that Derek, the one that had not just suggested, but insisted, on an open relationship, suddenly becomes jealous over Victor’s attraction to Antonio. This seemed out of character to me for many reasons, but mostly because he’d been putting Victor into the same situation repeatedly and Victor never said a word about it.

All in all, Expanded Hearts is an enjoyable, steaming hot ménage. Well-written and engaging, I enjoyed seeing Victor and Derek not only work through their issues, but also help Antonio through his problems as well. I’d love to see where the three of them are now and how far they’ve come since we left off.
