Pretty and popular, Miss Clare Westmore knows exactly what (or rather, who) she wants: the next Duke of Harrington. But when she twists her ankle on the eve of the Season’s most touted event, Clare is left standing in the wallflower line watching her best friend dance away with her duke.

Dr. Daniel Merial is tempted to deliver more than a diagnosis to London’s most unlikely wallflower, but he doesn’t have time for distractions, even one so delectable. Besides, she’s clearly got her sights on more promising prey. So why can’t he stop thinking about her?

All Clare wants to do is return to the dance floor. But as her former friends try to knock her permanently out of place, she realizes with horror she is falling for her doctor instead of her duke. When her ankle finally heals and she faces her old life again, will she throw herself back into the game?

Or will her time in the wallflower line have given her a glimpse of who she was really meant to be?

Clare Westmore is on top of the world. She’s the daughter of a wealthy viscount, she’s beautiful, she’s popular, and it seems she has caught the attention of the heir to a dukedom. When an accident leaves her with a badly sprained ankle, she’s determined not to miss any social functions, so as not to lose any ground. She wears one larger shoe on her injured foot, and attends a ball anyway. The pain is so great, that she realizes she will never be able to dance, so she is forced to take a seat with the wallflowers. Sitting in this spot seems to make her invisible, and gives her a whole new perspective, as she watches her best “friend” flirt with her ducal heir.

Dr. Daniel Merial is attending this ball only to keep an eye on its hostess, who is gravely ill, and likely doesn’t have much longer to live. When Clare walks, he can see that she is badly injured, and offers to look at her ankle. Clare isn’t keen on the idea, but her mother invites him to their home to examine her. Daniel is eager to acquire new patients, especially wealthy ones, who may refer him to others. He gave up his established practice, and came to town to conduct research on how to administer anesthesia, using his own funds to do so. Daniel is not an aristocrat, although his mother was gentry. He is immediately attracted to Clare, although she makes no bones about thinking she is better than he. Her injury turns out to be one that will keep her incapacitated for several weeks, and will cause many visits from Daniel. With each visit, Clare finds herself becoming attracted to Daniel as well, though she’s not at all happy about it.

It was easy not to like Clare much at first. She appears superficial, only concerned with her popularity and making a good match. Some of her remarks to Daniel are cutting and hurtful. We see her begin to change as the tables are turned. When circumstances make her a victim of gossip, and she is cut by her former friends, she starts to realize how it is for the “other” girls. Adversity makes her stronger, and I love the person she becomes. Daniel, on the other hand, is hero material from the start. He is caring and generous to a fault. He has very little, but is always giving to someone else. Despite his lower birth, he is willing to risk a relationship with Clare. His parents were of unequal birth, and were very happy, leading him to believe that strong love will overcome everything.

Jennifer McQuiston is a new author to me, and I love her writing style. Her characters were imperfect, but evolved and grew. There were many plot twists to this story, and she never took the easy way out. Daniel and Clare had to commit to their relationship, difficult as it was going to be, without any magical solutions, and it worked. Their happy ever after was all the sweeter for it. I highly recommend this very satisfying read, and I’ll definitely be looking up other work by this fresh voice in historical romance.

Failed surgeon David McBride is in exile from the surgical community after making a costly error in judgment. Down but not out, he perseveres and is given a second chance to establish a career in surgery. But, as McBride stands on the threshold of a new life, the malignant underside of his fellow man intervenes. Under the threat of violence, David is forced to perform illegal organ harvests in a makeshift operating room hidden in a dilapidated meatpacking warehouse in lower Manhattan. Unable to resolve the excruciating moral dilemma faced each time he invades the body of an unwilling victim, David McBride fights to free himself from the situation and in the process, loses everything. When he finally loses the last shred of his humanity, he seeks revenge with surgical precision … and instrumentation.

Readers who like the sort of story that puts them on a roller coaster from beginning to end will probably enjoy The Organ Takers. Having been a fan of both the book and movie, Coma by Robin Cook, I was eager to read this one which has a similar theme of human organ trafficking.

The story kicks off high in suspense when a homeless man collapses and is taken to the ER where he dies. This is the catalyst for the whole story. The bad guys are worried the trail will lead back to them and when a second homeless man wanders into the ER with a recollection of being operated on, a nurse gets suspicious and contacts the police.

And then there’s the main character, David McBride, outcast from the medical community and unfortunate enough to be drawn into the shady world of black market organ donation. I kept pulling for him hoping things would turn in his favor but the author did a great job upping the conflict and soon David’s pregnant wife is drawn into the deadly game and things kick into high gear.

Another character I liked in this book was the detective, Kate D’Angelo, who is trying to solve the mystery of the homeless man in the ER and find out what really happened to him. I felt like I wanted to cheer her on but knew if she achieves her goal than David’s in big trouble. The conflicting goals of this two characters was what made this book so enjoyable to read.

It’s fast paced and during the last ten chapters or so I found myself reading on to see the outcome which I have to say wasn’t how I expected. It’s now left me wondering if all these characters will be back for an encore.

If like me, you enjoy medical thrillers and race against the clock time suspense then this one’s worth checking out.

Westward bound on the Oregon Trail, Lorena Emerson is alone after her uncle is killed by a thief trying to steal his money belt. Ignoring the wagon master’s advice to go home, she rounds up others needing help, and they join a later wagon train and are soon slogging through dust and mud and steep mountain passes. It’s a long way to Oregon, and because another woman needs her help, Lorrie again goes her own way, leaving the wagon train and the Oregon Trail to travel onward—off the beaten path—with her small group of wagons. She’s helped by members of her wagon train, people she meets along the way, and the mule, Jake, an integral part of the story. You’ll meet them as they join in her travels and encounters with enemies she also meets as she searches for a new home and supplies as winter reaches out its icy hands…. Lorena Emerson may never have been on her own before, but she’s determined to go west and make herself a new life. Now she just has to figure out how…

Ms. Smith writes a good western tale. She points out the hardships and the glories that are all part of life on the trail. She also has good and bad people populating her stories so there are challenges for her characters. I really liked Lorena. She started shy but she bucked up and defended herself. She’s a strong woman with a good head for planning and organization. The men in her life are mostly nice and good friends with her, but it takes a while for her to find love.

Wagon trips were hell. There were food shortages, wagon problems, sometimes illness, and no rest for anyone. When Lorena starts trying to get a group together to travel with her, she never realized she was developing a small, mixed family. She finds a young brother and sister and a Negro couple, and finds another wagon train that will let them join them. The problem is that there is a pregnant woman on the new train that is having problems from the travelling. When Lorena hatches another idea, the pregnant woman and her family joins Lorena’s little family and they look for a place to settle.

The characters are strong, work hard, defend themselves and offer each support. Lorena needs that since she never learned how to cook! Now she’s got free meals everywhere.

The pace is strong, there’s plenty of hard work and action to keep your interest and, while there are sad spots, for the most part this is a positive story about life in the west and how settlement changed it.

Daniel Marten crossed the Burning Sea and convinced himself that he is the Prophesied One. But what does that mean? In this second installment of the Prophecy Chronicles trilogy, Daniel forges new alliances in his bid to save Naphthali from the Emperor. He meets the Tene’breon, a magical race that has evolved to use the Weave as effortlessly as he breathes air. The leaders of this race recognize him for what he is…but they also see something more. Naphthali has been dramatically altered by the rule of a new governor, a man whose power is tied to Daniel in a horrifying way. How far will Daniel go to save Naphthali? And what is the secret that binds his destiny with his new allies? Only time will tell in The Prophecy Chronicles: Prophecy Revealed.

But for some reason, he has been chosen as the Prophesied One and transported to an entirely different world. He now has the appointed mission to save the Naphthali from the Emperor. He has chosen to save the many even if that means he never returns to his own world.

Daniel is a very likeable character, at times hesitant and unsure, but with an underlying strength which helps him maintain his determination to defeat the Emperor in spite of all the loss and pain he has endured. He meets the Tene’breon, a magical race of people the Emperor has tried to eradicate. Three members of the Tene’breon, Broken Bow, Bastion, and Meadow Song, become his allies as they also share a part in the prophecy.

The world Daniel has entered is fully described and feels very real. It is a rich world, filled with beauty and despair. I had no trouble entering into it with Daniel and I certainly understand why he feels that he must do all that he can to help the Naphthali.

The action is intense and riveting. I read Prophecy Revealed in one sitting. I simply could not put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. This is the second in The Prophecy Chronicles Trilogy but it can certainly be read without any prior knowledge. Personally, I have read the first book, Prophecy Revealed, which I recommend as well. And I am eagerly awaiting the final book in the trilogy, which I hope will be published soon.

Fantasy lovers are in for a real treat with Prophecy Revealed. It never disappoints.

Though part of an ongoing series of various authors, this short novella is totally standalone. Plot-wise, the main conflict is dealt with about halfway through the story. That kind of made the rest of the tale a bit redundant. But that’s okay.

I was expecting an erotic quickie, and that’s what I got. I didn’t need in-depth characters or a complex plotline. I wanted something hot and juicy to read, and that’s exactly what this tale delivers: Plenty of BDSM sex, with a variety of implements, positions, and techniques.

Warning for the faint of heart: There’s fisting and whipping.

All in all, a hot and heavy erotic quickie for those M/M readers with a penchant for BDSM and a cute couple that fits together perfectly.

Officer Shawn Everly patrols the Strip. Fireman Trent Marshall saves him when danger strikes. But it’s uncertain whether Trent can save himself from getting his heart broken by Shawn.

The party never ends on the Las Vegas strip, but neither does the danger. Officer Everly is new to the beat, having recently relocated to Vegas from Los Angeles. Foot patrol on The Strip is a demanding assignment because he’s up close and personal with the public. But what he’d really like to do is get up close and personal with Station 32’s hunky fireman, Trent Marshall.

Trent has been a fireman for over ten years and is dedicated to his job. He’s built tough and is a no-nonsense man of few words. At a local blood drive, Trent meets the handsome new officer on foot patrol, but won’t let himself get too close. He’s lost love before when his policeman lover was killed in the line of fire.

Working of cialis online online levitra basically works by making the pill get into the blood stream. During an emergency, Trent’s over-protective instincts kick in when he believes Shawn is in harm’s way. He ends up embarrassing and angering Shawn in front of their fellow officers, which seems as though it will end any hope of Trent having a chance with the young man he can’t push from his mind.

Shawn can’t decide whether he wants to punch or kiss Trent. Kissing wins. Once they spend some time together away from the stresses of their jobs, they find that they’re not just compatible—they’re combustible.

But Trent can’t seem to accept that there are hazards that come with working in law enforcement. Right as they’re discovering how much they mean to one another, the danger escalates on The Strip. The underground vigilante group, The Citizens Against Immorality, have raised the stakes. Will Shawn and Trent be their next targets?

Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas where the party never ends and danger lurks around every corner. Enter Officer Shawn Everly, a recent transfer to the LVMPD and assigned to foot patrol along the infamous Strip. When a drunk decides to take a dip in the lake at the Bellagio, Shawn comes face to face with the man he’s been dreaming of for months – fireman Trent Marhsall. Will sparks fly or will the two first responders fizzle out?

Shawn Everly is what I like in a man. He’s stable, he’s gorgeous, and he’s just alpha enough to get things done, but not so alpha that you want to kick him in the shin every time he opens his mouth. Considering he’s a cop, that last bit is a huge surprise. I love that he’s able to take the teasing, harassing, and everything else his partner and coworkers throw at him in stride. It says a lot about his character that he didn’t shoot any of them, especially after the embarrassing incident at the beginning of the story. He’s the exact kind of partner that Trent needs.

Now Trent Marshall, on the other hand, is a bit too alpha for my tastes. However, as you begin to become privy to his backstory, you begin to understand why he acts like he does. His overprotective streak borders on obsessiveness at times and it can be a real turn off. Thankfully, Shawn helps him come to terms with the loss of his former boyfriend, who was also a police officer. Once Shawn begins to cope with that, his domineering attitude loosens up somewhat, making him much more likable.

I will admit that as a local of this odd town, I was looking for inconsistencies or errors and I am happy to report that I didn’t find any. That always impresses me because it’s too easy to choose a city and make it up as you go along, but in this case, I was able to easily picture where Shawn and Trent were at all times. The author obviously did her research and it shows.

All Fired Up is an extremely sexy and sweet story about two first responders who can’t get enough of each other. It’s a very real example of how hard it is to work as either a police officer or fireman and how much harder it is to love someone who is either. It’s a great introduction into a new series and I can’t wait to see what Ms. Knight has in store for us next.

Sometimes you have to crumble to ashes before you can fly.

Riletta knew hardship. As a shifter who couldn’t shift, she was raised in a wolf pack that ostracized her. She was ready to tackle the world when she was dropped off at the university with no identity, very little cash, and the only thing she wanted—freedom. The last thing she expected was for the university’s resident Alpha wolf to stake a claim.

Riletta is a shifter with no identity. She was found abandoned by a wolf pack that had no idea who she was or which species she was. She was dropped off by her no good alpha at the university. From then on starts her life to freedom and self-discovery.

When Macen meets Riletta on the very first day in the university Macen has this overwhelming feeling to protect her.

This is about a shifter who has been demeaned, degraded and kept in less than tasteful conditions, and her flight to freedom and love.

For me the one thing that makes this whole series or book different than any other book was Riletta and who she really was. Not to say that the book as a whole was not engaging. I multitask a lot, even when I am reading a book. Rare is a book nowadays that could pull me in completely and make me come back again and again. The author did a wonderful job doing that.

However, I have one small problem with the wordings in the whole book. This is a New Adult erotic book. Not a young adult. But every now and then some of the characters would slip into dialogue that reminded me of children or young adults or teenagers. I understand that Phoenix Rising is set at a university and both the main characters are students. But somehow I kept thinking that the way they talked was not in complete synch with the whole story and their characters.

Ms. Carnes did a wonderful job of portraying the different sides of Macen that endeared me to him. At the same time it was touching to see the progress in Riletta with the help of some special characters. I do hope there is a second book in this in the near future. I will be looking out for the latest book. I want to know more about who Riletta is and what she could do.

I enjoyed this story about an alpha with a protective instinct and a shifter who has yet to find her true potential.

A few hours ago, Sherry Carne would have sworn that vampires didn’t exist. That’s before rogue immortals rampage through her store, leaving bloody chaos (literally) in their wake. The kicker comes when Sherry learns that one of the vamps on the bad guys’ trail may be her life mate. Her head says it’s impossible. The rest of her takes one look at Basileios Argeneau and has much more interesting ideas.

Whatever Basil expected in a life mate, funny, outspoken Sherry isn’t it. But mind-blowing chemistry and instinct don’t lie. They tell him something else, too—that Sherry’s connection to the immortal world goes deeper than she knows. And that she’s in the kind of danger only Basil can save her from—if she’ll just trust him, now and forever . . .

Anyone who doesn’t like a slow starting book will find the first chapter chock full of action, chases and shocking revelations when the heroine is thrust into a whole new world and readers get to see how she deals with it all. The truth is harder to swallow than her pizza.

What I liked early on about Sherry, the heroine, was her ability to keep her sense of humor and to keep an open mind as well as her seemingly logical thought process. I also enjoyed seeing her logic derail as she learns about a people she never knew existed. That includes meeting Basileios.

Basileios, a/k/a Basil but not pronounced like the herb but I did it anyway, is the hero who has his work cut out for him in protecting not just Sherry but Stephanie too. Stephanie is a character from a previous book that plays an interesting role in getting Basil and Sherry together. I believe she’ll be a good future heroine someday. Mentioning this secondary character is a good place to mention that The Immortal Who Loved Me is a fine standalone read. Leoninus, the bad guy, and his cohorts have been a continuing threat for many a book in the series but Ms. Sands drops enough clues and backstory for a new reader to fit right in. The shocking bit in the alley is still a solid bit of writing. And, because it is so well done and dramatic, a reader will mostly get the full effect of the scene. However, followers of the series will understand the extra subtle underlying drama that plays out to its conclusion and experience that extra wow factor like I did.

Ms. Sands also continues to deliver a format that appeals; that being the inclusion of many family members in their various roles to tease, confound, protect, reprimand or help Basil and Sherry. The technique the author employs throughout all of her books continues here too. The fact that everyone else can read the minds of Basil and Sherry drives them alternately nuts or gives them the clues they need to sidestep typical dating landmines. Does it come off as too convenient and orchestrated at times? Yes, for me it did. That doesn’t take anything away from my enjoyment of the book as it ensures that a family member will always call one or the other on the carpet for doing, or thinking about doing, something stupid. Some characters get a little too much enjoyment out of doing that, which means there are a lot of opportunities for humor and giggles throughout the book.

The one thing Ms. Sands does is surprise people. Whether it be a character, the reader, or both. In this case it was Sherry who had quite a few informational bombshells dropped on her. One was a bit of a mystery and what the truth ended up being blew me away. As such, I found Sherry’s reactions to be mostly understandable and sometimes endearing, but sometimes, not. The heroine waffles from being smart, to overthinking things to the point of panic or goes with the flow and whips out a few one liners to lighten things up. When the dialogue is fast and witty, it’s all good. Then again, having a hunky life mate like Basil is worth fighting and changing for. And that is the one part where I wanted to slap Sherry. Yes, that ability to freak herself out occurs and at that point I smacked my hand to my head because I knew what was going to happen. It’s the only part of the book where I felt it was predictable. Sure, I knew something needed to happen to get from point A to B, I just wish it didn’t feel like I’ve read it a hundred times before. Oh well.

One thing that did not disappoint was the sensual and stimulating relationship between Basil and Sherry, especially once the life mate symptoms took effect. The writing was hot and well done but even in the midst of raging hormones and nanos, Ms. Sands injected moments rife with humor, snickers and blushing cheeks. Those were fun.

The Immortal Who Loved Me has a lot for a reader to sink their teeth into. It’s a busy book with a lot of threads being tied up, a romance to foster to fruition and a surprise reconciliation that actually made this book an even better read than I expected. It’s that depth of character and the ability of an author to reach readers with her characters that always makes Ms. Sands’ books stand out. This is a wonderful addition to the series and it’s just as sexy, witty, fun and flirty with a hint of suspense to keep a reader at the edge of their seat like many of her books, it’s easy to recommend The Immortal Who Loved Me for fans new and established. It’s a really good read.

Jamie is very likeable. She does try to figure things out, but without the help of her P.I. friend, Duke Broussard, she’d really be in trouble. And she tends to panic under pressure, but wouldn’t we all. She is an easy character for the reader to like and identify with. I also liked Duke, and he brings a very different and helpful perspective to the mystery. He is right there to help when Kip goes missing and the clock is running out.

The mystery is well-paced and exciting. There were a number of possibilities for the bad guys, and I didn’t get all the pieces put together until the end. The suspense builds nicely and I didn’t want to stop reading until the end.

There were a few minor typos, and in one place, Jamie says she’s stopping for coffee on her way home when she is actually on her way to work. There are some side plot lines and the solution to one of them seemed a bit too pat and simplistic. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, and this wasn’t a huge issue, and maybe since Jamie had enough on her plate, one pat solution wasn’t all bad. However, a bit more complexity would have added to the novel.

Peril in the Park is a delightful cozy mystery, an enjoyable read, that I’m sure mystery lovers will enjoy. It is the third in the Jamie Quinn series and I hope there will be many more adventures with Jamie in the future.

Mr. Fell writes a tale about two rabbis who are looking for work. It’s a humorous look at life with Jewish touches. I know nothing about the Jewish faith, so his glossary at the back of the book was quite helpful. Most of it I understood without referencing that. I found the story amusing.

There are two shuls in the local area and both are looking for a rabbi. There are men and women on the boards of both, and the applicants are one male and one female. When the vote is tied, the decided voter abstains from voting. They need help!

I’ve never thought about feminism being a factor in a Jewish environment. I’m used to men holding all the positions of importance (even in the Catholic life I grew up in) and was surprised they had a female rabbi. It gets even more complicated when the two rabbis’ begin to develop a romantic interest in each other.

Mr. Fell’s main character, Sam, has to walk the tangled path between the two shuls and try to maintain peace in each. I like how he handles the problem and resolves it with the best results you could hope for. While they are busy eating cheesecake and talking religious differences, you begin to find yourself chuckling and turning the page to see what happens next.

This is a good humorous read with some Jewish terminology that can mean more than one thing and a fun result at the end.
