Everyone has secrets, including Katie. These secrets gnaw at her insides and leave her raw and exposed. Katie makes the physical and emotional journey home to Mt. Isa, Australia to attend the funeral of Alistair whom she shared her childhood with, and who she once believed was her first true love.It is this journey when the secrets are revealed that forces Katie to remember Alistair and the secrets they shared. But as she admits her past to herself she risks losing everyone. Is she strong enough to deal with the truth of her own life and hold on to everyone she truly loves?

This book is absolutely absorbing. I had no idea what to expect and was totally surprised by the depth of emotions the story evoked in me.

Katie and Alistair grew up together in tiny Mt. Isa, Australia. Alistair was Katie’s first love , the man she knew she would be with forever, the big grand love of her life. But, obviously things did not turn out like she had envisioned, since we know from the start she is married to a man named Ricky and has three young children.  Out of the blue an old friend calls and informs Katie that Alistair has died.

Taking this news incredibly hard, Katie decides the time has finally come to return home to Mt. Isa to pay her final respects and maybe exorcise a few demons as well. Traveling alone by train, Katie begins to reflect upon her relationship with Alistair. Through flashbacks we are taken back to when Katie is a child and how even then she was drawn to Alistair. We travel back and forth to different moments in their relationship, the ups and downs and the shocking turn of events that ultimately separates them forever.

Katie has immortalized Alistair as we are often tempted to do with our first love. We never forget it, right? That all consuming passion that borders on obsession, the knowledge deep down in our souls that this is the one, there will never be another feeling like this.

But, as the story progresses we begin to see flaws in the relationship. Katie is just a young girl, impressionable and naïve, while Alistair is several years older. It is obvious he holds Katie in the palm of his hand and he knows it, but it doesn’t matter what he does, her faith in their love for each other is unwavering, all the way up until something so horrible transpires that Katie loses Alistair, her parents and the entire community of Mt. Isa, cast her out. Yet, even then, she has a very hard time shaking off her feelings for Alistair.

But, now with Alistair’s death–a man Katie referred to as “God”–those pastel memories in Katie’s mind begin to change to a much darker shade and a slow, but horrible dawning in Katie begins to emerge and all that has gone before takes on an new hue, one that will eventually lead Katie to a stunning, gut wrenching realization.

I was stunned by this book and the double standards Katie lived with, the judgment heaped onto her while the golden boy, Alistair walks away with his reputation unscathed. I found myself burning with anger, appalled, and shocked as the story reveals more and more of Katie’s life in Mt. Isa, and the situation that lead to her becoming a pariah.

The return home and all those potent memories coming to the surface shakes Katie to the core and the scales fall from her eyes as a result. Now, finally Katie is able to realize what really happened with Alistair and his almost Svengali like power over her. and this gives her the freedom to start all over with a fresh start. This is not only a liberation for Katie, but for Ricky too. He is a great guy who stood far too long the giant shadow of Alistair. This is an incredible and cleansing journey, an apt title for sure. Very well done.

A collection of short stories that roams through several genres from comedy, drama, fantasy and suspense. There are a couple of whimsical looks at murder, a tragic game of hide and seek, a lesson on when not to make a slip of the tongue and a look at what happens when you break 113 out of 206 bones.

“Tourist Trap” begins with a confused man named Arnold whose travel plans have been seriously disrupted. He’s not a patient person, so trying to get the clerk to explain all of his options is only making Arnold more angry. This was by far my favourite story in the collection due to how the main character’s predicament was revealed so quickly. The already intriguing premise was made even stronger by keeping the pacing fast and the ending under wraps until the last possible moment.

I predicted the twists in a few of these tales immediately. “To Thine Own Self Be True” is one example of this. It begins with a young woman who was standing next to the ocean and grieving the loss of her husband when a stranger approached her. My first assumption about what was happening was the correct one. While the writing style was engaging, I would have preferred to have far fewer clues about what was coming. Knowing how it would end so soon dampened my enthusiasm for finishing this piece.

“In Silence Sealed” follows Ben’s train of thought. His wife, Emily, has been extremely talkative throughout their marriage. He resents her constant commentary on everything she’s seen and done and wishes he could have a few hours of silence. What I enjoyed the most about getting to know this couple was how much I figured out about them by reading between the lines. By paying attention to what they left unsaid I was able to pinpoint the genre this story is best suited for. That information wasn’t immediately obvious, but piecing together all of the hints was definitely worthwhile.

Under the Full Moon and Other Stories is a good choice for anyone who likes to dabble in more than one genre. There’s something here for fans of the science fiction and mystery genres alike.

Sidonie Lindstrom’s hands and heart are full—she’s been uprooted from the urban life she loves, she’s grieving for her brother while raising her foster son Luis, and she’s trying to find a job with meaning. But her burdens feel lighter when she meets rural lawyer Mackenzie Knightley. Their attraction is powerful and unexpected. Life is perfect… until Sid learns that Mack hasn’t been completely honest about his job.

When problems arise with Luis’ foster care situation, she must decide: can she trust Mack again, when she has so much more to lose?

I first fell in love with Grace Burrowes Regency Romance. Now, I find her contemporary romance also sparkles and sizzles with complex characters, subtle humor, and multilayered storytelling. Her unique way of weaving words together to enthrall is amazing .She reaches in and touches the reader’s heart in a compelling way that makes one feel as if the characters are real. These characters grip the reader’s emotions and take that reader on a vicarious journey to be remembered.

But she carries a load of guilt deep inside is crushing.

Luis, her teenage son of mixed ethnic heritage, loves his foster mom, but he keeps himself at a certain distance, for he too has more than his share of guilt.

Mackenzie Knightley, the farrier who comes to Sidonie’s aid when she discovers two huge horses on her newly bought property, makes his living as a criminal lawyer. His back story enthralls. He is big and arrestingly handsome with a ”peat smoke” voice. His compassion and his caring ways with people and horses belie his courtroom persona. With people and horses he takes time to do little things—to pet, to feed—to talk to and gently lecture in his own special way. He too, like Sidonie and Luis, has guilt issues plus deep secrets that set him apart.

The secondary characters, like Mackenzie’s brothers and their loved ones, play big roles in the unfolding of the plot. They add depth and believable to the story.

The humor, work ethic, compassion, and can-do problem solving attitude keep Kiss Me Hello throbbing with activity and solid with quiet determination while love wiggles its way amongst it all to weaves its magic spell.

However, there is an undercurrent of anxiety that keeps the reader just a little uneasy early on in the story and builds as an antagonist, that I really, really came to dislike, uses position and power to try to wreak havoc on lives.

How Grace Burrowes gets matters resolved is different, daring, and delightful. Kiss Me Hello is wonderful reading!

Payton Winters thinks she’s leaving her skeletons behind when she starts a new life in Sackets Harbor, NY. But starting over isn’t as easy as changing hometowns. An errant word or action can spawn gossip and trouble. Big trouble. In Sackets Harbor, that trouble comes in the form of the handsome Sean Adams. With Sean around, no secret is safe. When he dies, no one is surprised. Neither does anyone mourn.

Claire Bastian has a secret, a secret which torments her as she watches Sean Adams destroying the dreams and hopes of the small community of Sackets Harbor, NY. Finally, after nearly a year of planning, she decides to take action. She feels responsible for Sean because he is her son, given up for adoption at birth. When he grows up to be so evil, Claire feels horrible guilt, as if it were all her fault.

The first part of Lethal Dose of Love is told from Claire’s point of view and I watched as she plans and carries out her deadly scheme. But did she succeed? So many residents of Sackets Harbor want him dead and when he does die, it is on his boat during a race, his fellow sailor dying also. Suspicion falls on everyone whom Sean had wronged, especially the women since he was poisoned.

Payton Winters is still grieving for her husband, who was murdered in a home burglary. She moved to Sackets Harbor in an effort to heal, but now this murder has brought back all her memories of her beloved husband’s murder, a murder which was never solved. On top of that, the plant used to poison Sean came from her new exotic plant shop. Payton can’t face the memories from her past, but she finds some healing energy from trying to solve Sean’s murder, little realizing that she herself could become the next victim.

The characters are well defined and very believable. The small town of Sackets Harbor seems real as well, with the quirks expected from such a community. My only complaint with this novel is that it could have used another round of editing, with special attention paid to the use of pronouns. Sentences such as “she’d come to patch things up between she and Helen” are very jarring and pulled me out of the story. Thankfully, there were not many of these, but some editing would help.

The plot moves well, and there are a number of excellent action scenes. I didn’t figure out the murderer until the very end. Those who love cozy mysteries will certainly enjoy trying to figure out who gave Sean his just desserts.

Vegas is filled with human cast-offs, yet officer Parker McLean sees something special in hustler Slade Wolfgang. Unfortunately, so does Slade’s pimp who wants to sell him overseas in the sex trade.

Hustler Slade Wolfgang has little choice over his fate. At the age of twenty, he’s had to survive any way he can since being thrown out of his home for being gay. As soon as he hit Vegas, Slade was lured into the hopeless world of prostitution where he’s become a virtual prisoner to his pimp, the ruthless Julio Estevez. His evil keeper has even threatened to sell Slade overseas as a sex slave.

It’s another typical night on the Strip when Parker comes across Slade. His heart breaks every time he sees someone so young being exploited. Something in Slade’s eyes tells Parker the young man might be in real trouble though—especially after the recent spate of sex worker killings from a rival prostitution ring.

The two men’s lives become intertwined when Slade is almost beaten to death. The danger grows, but so does the relationship between Parker and Slade. Parker helps Slade to heal from the horrific attack and their bond deepens. But the human traffickers are still out there – and they’re still looking for Slade.

Boys like Slade are a dime a dozen, hustling the streets to make enough money to keep a roof over their heads. When a chance encounter draws Slade into the line of sight of Officer Parker McLean, his world is forever changed. But can a one-time male prostitute really make a life with an officer of the law? There’s only one way to find out… by trying it.

Slade Wolfgang is sadly leading a life that is all too realistic. Having been kicked out of his home for being gay, he does the only thing he can to make a living and that’s sell himself. Wrapped up with a sadistic pimp, he’s lost all hope that anything can ever get better. All of this leaves Slade withdrawn and unable to trust in anyone, even sweet and sexy Parker. You really root for this poor, conflicted soul to find happiness somewhere.

Parker McLean has worked the Strip for a while now, and yet he still finds himself shocked at the things that can happen. I really loved Parker. His dedication not just to his job, but to getting justice for those who deserve it, is impressive. So when he takes a chance on Slade by taking him in and beginning a relationship with him, you aren’t surprised. You know he’s going to give everything to the kid and that if it doesn’t work out, it won’t be for a lack of trying.

As a follow-up to All Fired Up, Copping an Attitude is a darker and more intense story. Delving into the world of prostitution and the abuse and exploitation that goes along with it, this isn’t as light of a novel as its predecessor. However, I didn’t find the romance between Parker and Slade to be as believable as the one between Trent and Shawn in the first book. That said, Parker really does exhibit a ton of love and patience when it comes to winning Slade over and that makes up for a lot of things. Copping an Attitude is an excellent sequel and shows that Ms. Knight can really spin an intense story. I’m anxious to see where book three takes us.

This was an extremely easy read. It went so smoothly. It was a non-stop read for me. I especially loved the main characters. Not to say that the secondary characters were bad. In my opinion every one of the characters glowed.

The reunion for the professor and the student and what transpired after that was what made it an amazing read. It was descriptive without being too much. The story had multiple POV’s that allowed me to understand both of them.

Passionate History allowed me to travel with Bree from her college life to her career since it encompasses around five years.

Bree is a sweet and independent girl. I would have loved to know more about how much of a distinct difference there was in Bree emotionally during the five years encompassed in this story.  However, I loved the story and would surely love to read more of this author.

This was a short erotic but sweet read that any romance lover should like.

Like Buchman’s other military romances, Bring on the Dusk is rich with descriptions, imagery, humor, and realistic action that slip the reader into clandestine operations that send the heart racing and adrenaline pumping. The emotional connect with the characters keeps the reader alert and sensitive to the undercurrents that influence their actions, make them who they are, and highlight their “do or die” attitudes. The romance is sizzling and beautiful. The action is riveting and the characters complex.

If you have read earlier M. L. Buchman “Night Stalker” novels, you will recognize many of the characters in this novel. It is like a reunion—where you can catch up with these characters again and see how their lives are going. Bring on the Dusk stands alone as an exciting read, but it will probably entice a first-time Buchman reader to search out previous “Night Stalker” books.

Bring on the Dusk takes the reader on a vicarious journey that lingers in the mind long after the book is read and put on the shelf to be read again someday.

When widow Angela McClure decides to let loose and start a secret affair with a younger ranch hand, she inflames rancher Dusty Jackson’s long simmering desire. Both men are irresistible – and forbidden – so Angela forms a plan to divert her old-fashioned father’s suspicions: flirt with all of “her cowboys.’ The new competition makes Circle Bar K ranch hotter than it’s ever been before…

This novel is not at all what I expected. I assumed one thing and I found a fascinating treasure instead. This story has a lot of scenes filled with seduction, sexy shenanigans, and sexual innuendos and teasing but what thrilled me was the depth of character growth and the surprise shock at the end. Cowboy Heaven was a quick but awesome read.

Miami cheap brand cialis is one of the best cities in America. According to Livestrong.com, E is sometimes buy generic cialis called Wittmaack-Ekbom’s Syndrome. When it comes to buying ordering levitra from canada, you must note that there are two types of the make enhancement supplements. The beginning of OCD typically varies in both sexes pfizer viagra online from the late teens until the mid-20s, but the age of start tend to be a little younger in males than in females. For readers of erotic romances used to their format, the first three chapters should be right up their alley as they provide an immediate hit to the libido. However, do not judge the entire novel based on the first three chapters of sexy intensity. There is a whole lot more coming a reader’s way that blew me away.

I liked the first person point of view from Angie. It’s her story and it’s her life that gets a jump start. What she sees, hears and experiences will forever change her. The story was solidly told from her perspective and what a fun time it was. She’s an older woman whose kids were now in college, and a widow. She’s still young and vibrant but for some reason, had lost that sense of being a sexual being. All it took was an impulsive decision to pick up a hitch hiking Troy and the fun began. I enjoyed getting to know her and watching her explore her sexuality for the first time in her life. What I didn’t expect was to laugh. I giggled, snorted and out right laughed at some of the things she got into. Once she let herself be free to express and explore her fantasies and her curiosity, I never knew what that woman would do, I was treated to some funny, silly yet very hot scenes that I really enjoyed. Even when she was in the middle of a threesome comparison, I was smiling. What I marveled at was the fact she was surrounded by cowboys with hearts of gold, who loved her, respected her and even when some were feeling jealous or slighted, never turned into jerks, morons or creepy stalkers. They were passionate guys who finally got a chance to air their own fantasies – but only one’s dream comes true.

Angela, being a mature adult, didn’t always act like it. In some cases, I understood, in others, she acted more like a hormonal teenager than a responsible ranch owner and mother. On the other hand, if I had a chance to experience no strings attached, unbridled passion and clandestine kinky sex, maybe I’d be a bit goofy too.

It was Joe that was the catalyst for suspicion. He also provided some endearing moments when onstage. Bull reminds me of an old co-worker – a good worker but with quirks that always seemed to rub folks the wrong way – we always got mad at him yet we couldn’t stay mad at him for long because he was quirky funny too; that was Bull in this story. Dusty was cute and it was good getting to know him but Troy cracked me up. Troy and Dusty are the two men who got to know Angela in the biblical sense.

The surprise came from one of the strong characters in the story. I won’t say anything more because I don’t want to ruin the bombshell. I can share that Ms. Brooks wrote in a devious mystery and a bit of darkness into the tale which explained a ton of the baggage everyone seemed to inadvertently carry but I never expected the reasoning or to what extent it went. The revelation can only be effective if a reader is in the dark as thoroughly as I was. I had an inkling about who I should be suspicious about, but the truth blew me away. It’s a very cool twist and it made this story better than good and is worth recommending.

Cowboy Heaven isn’t just hot and sexy, it’s intelligent, witty and well written. I liked the dynamics between Angie and the men she had to choose from, Troy and Dusty. I enjoyed the banter and sense of fun and friendship as well as the dialogue between all the characters. This was a wonderful read that surprised me with its depth of emotion and eventual romance. I am thrilled with the happy ever after and I absolutely recommend Cowboy Heaven to readers who like romances on the hot side. Even better, this book has a solid story to offer that makes the sex even more effective – because it allowed a reader to see Angela’s growth and her love for the man she eventually chooses. I’m very happy I read it.

There’s never a good reason not to fool around for the wildly popular Jarhead boys.

Sean Michael’s Jarhead series holds a soft spot for me. Michael was my first m/m author and I still love his Jarhead series, which I re-read often. I enjoy the characters and their stories mostly because they are the most complex the author has written, largely due to the numerous stories where characterization can occur in between the repeated sex scenes. So these short stories fit well with the series and can easily be read as stand alone stories but they don’t really offer much insight into the characters themselves. There is some nice interaction with the men in different scenarios so a reader can glean how the three men fit together but really these are just for long time readers and fans of the series.

That said – they’re exactly what you would expect from a Jarhead short story from author SM. Each one is an extended sex scene, or several sex scenes put together that show the men in various everyday circumstances. Whether they’re releasing tension from a bad day, just goofing off, or having a typical morning sex session, it’s a glimpse into the highly sexualized life of this trio. I found the stories fun and typical, they’re basically the same scenes you’d find in one of the novel length stories but since I already have a soft spot for them I liked reading the scenes anyway. It was like skimming the books for the sex and no plot but you get to see the men and their love for each other shinning through their playtime.

It’s the romance of the stories that really does it for me as a reader. I like revisiting these characters 15-20 years down the road in their relationship and seeing how they continue to love and desire each other. They make allowances for their age but still see each other through the rose colored lens of love. Although the stories are entirely and completely sex scenes, one after the other, there’s always emotion, laughter, and heartfelt moments that make it more than simple porn and thus worthwhile reading. Perhaps not the greatest set of short stories and nothing fans haven’t read for years but always a nice nostalgic trip with a trio of beloved characters.
