Suzanne Evans is eking out a simple existence waiting tables at the Decklin Café in 1850’s Pennsylvania, hoping to save enough funds to open a bakery of her own. Buoyed by secret meetings with Deputy Andrew Powers, she presses on even when her cruel boss puts her down for being black and a former whore.

As a black lawman, Andrew takes his duties seriously yet he can’t shake his desire for Suzanne. Slipping away from his post for a few torrid moments with her keeps him sane even as wanting her drives him toward madness.

When Decklin Café burns to the ground Suzanne’s bigoted boss accuses her of arson and forces Andrew to arrest her. If she’s found guilty, she may face the hangman’s noose. Angst, fear and mistrust drive a wedge between the two lovers. But love has a way of fighting back and heat doesn’t always come from a fire.

Deputy’s Desire opens up during the lunch rush at Decklin Cafe, which is owned by Leslie Decklin and operated by her son Brian. Brian isn’t the friendliest boss, nor is he the fairest to his employees. He finds favor with young Maggie and deeply resents his mother for hiring lowly ex-prostitute Suzanne Evans.

One night, Suzanne is doing her nightly closing duties at the cafe and notices a fire has started. She runs to the local sheriff office to notify them of the fire, and during her running she cuts her foot pretty badly. Brian blames Suzanne for starting the fire, causing a conflict between Suzanne and Deputy Andrew Powers, who desires her.

Deputy’s Desire is a quick and easy read. It was pretty simple, and there wasn’t much depth to the plot. The majority of the story wasn’t so much about the mystery of the arsonist but about the desires of Deputy Powers. I enjoyed the author’s writing style; how she has the right amount of dialog and narrative summary. Her way of telling a story seemed so effortless and natural. Even with the plot being a little weak the strong writing kept me reading.

I found it surprising how the deputy broke the law by acting on his desires for Suzanne. Yes this is an erotic romance, so I can overlook the part where they haven’t built a relationship and only sexual attraction matters, but he is painted as a lawman put in a position to up hold the law not break it because of fleshly desires.

I admire the author for mentioning women in roles such as a lawyer and sitting mayor in her story, set in 1850. I tried not to, but ended up doing a Google search and found that the first female lawyer wasn’t until 1869 and the first female mayor wasn’t recorded until 1887. Also, the author mentioned (blue) jeans and a Google search shows jeans were invented in 1873.  So, these historical anachronisms bothered me a bit.

The plot wasn’t complex, but the author definitely has a talent for writing and telling a story. Yes a few things bothered me, but I have read other novels by this author that were very enjoyable and I will continue to read the author’s future work.

When it comes to sexy geeks, Leo Martinez and Devlin Hawke are as hot as they get. But falling for the wrong guy has always been Sidney Chase’s forte. She’s not about to submit to her inner bad girl by giving in to her secret fantasies about her sex-on-a-stick bosses. When she’s accidentally exposed to the supercharged aphrodisiac in their lab, Sidney tosses aside her inhibitions and unknowingly provides her bosses with an eye-popping display of self lovin’ courtesy of the office security cameras.

The only disadvantage of these drugs is that it can become erect during a certain period of time. davidfraymusic.com brand cialis 20mg Despite their mutual craving for Sidney, Leo and Devlin made a pact long ago to keep her off limits. The last thing they’d wanted was to scare off their best PA by overwhelming her with their kinky tendencies. Witnessing the arousing effects of their aphrodisiac elixir on Sidney changes everything. Not only is she the answer they’ve been looking for in regards to fine-tuning their formula, she’s the perfect woman for them. And with a little help from one helluva sinful science experiment, they’ll prove that love is far more potent than anything manufactured in a bottle.

Two bosses, who are super smart and sexy males, are making an elixir that heightens sexual arousal. That premise caught my attention immediately.

By accident their secretary, Sidney, gets doused with the potion and little does she know but, she’s on camera when it happens. Interestingly enough, her bosses happen to have a thing for Sidney, but have worked hard at keeping her at arms length… mostly. When Leo and Devlin approach her about her snooping and then offer her a job as their next test subject, secret passions, internal conflicts and workplace issues get thrown into the mix. It was a very entertaining concept.

In today’s heightened “sexual harassment” environment, this is certainly a “suspend your disbelief” type of story. Even though it’s just “work”, Sidney is all too eager to accept their terms even knowing what will be required of her (she helped put the other data in from the other test subjects), but will she be able to keep her excitement low key and then after the experiment be able to go back to work as if nothing happened? Talk about internal crisis! And one thing that bothered me was that a particularly important element to the story, the elixir, was mentioned at first, but the author never followed through with it and this dampened my enjoyment of the story. It’s a good thing the chemistry between the characters was so sizzling.

The book looks to not be part of a series and is an easy read. The story is short so it was good to see that it wasn’t overloaded with unnecessary details to distract this reader and the story moved along well. The characters were good, and while it might have helped if they had been filled out a bit more, all of them were likable.

I enjoyed Perfect Chemistry; it was fun. It wasn’t show stopping but it certainly was entertaining and I had a good time reading it.

Tom Putnam has resigned himself to a quiet and half-fulfilled life. An English professor in a sleepy college town, he spends his days browsing the Shakespeare shelves at the campus bookstore, managing the oddball faculty in his department and caring, alongside his formidable mother-in-law, for his wife Marjory, a fragile shut-in with unrelenting neuroses, a condition exacerbated by her discovery of Tom’s brief and misguided affair with a visiting poetess a decade earlier.

Some have levitra 30mg even speculated that Pioli sabotaged the roster so that he could justifiably fire Haley. In many cases, ED has viagra for women emerged up as the reason behind a person facing erectile dysfunction. It affects the health of cipla cialis online the person physically and psychologically. Then, one evening at the bookstore, Tom and Marjory meet Rose Callahan, the shop’s charming new hire, and Marjory invites Rose to their home for dinner, out of the blue, her first social interaction since her breakdown. Tom wonders if it’s a sign that change is on the horizon, a feeling confirmed upon his return home, where he opens a letter from his former paramour, informing him he’d fathered a son who is heading Tom’s way on a train. His mind races at the possibility of having a family after so many years of loneliness. And it becomes clear change is coming whether Tom’s ready or not.

It’s always a plus when you’re reading a book and the story puts a smile on your face. That’s exactly what happened while I made my way through Small Blessings. Its plot sometimes had things conveniently falling into place for the characters but if you overlook that, it’s a fun read filled with feelings all of us deal with at one time or another.

What I enjoyed most about this book was its setting. A small college town inhabited by what appeared to be a cast of quirky characters. I had mixed feelings about the main character Tom. You almost have to forgive him for his past sin that has produced a surprise son because in the opening pages he seems to be a sweet guy who is caring for this very fragile woman, Marjory. I won’t give the plot away but I hoped we’d see more of her in the story.

Rose, the other lead character, is also flawed but it seems that Marjory has seen something within her that others haven’t and that’s the reason I hoped Marjory would be in the story more so I could see how their relationship progressed and if, as Tom suspected, it was a turning point for his wife.

Small Blessings has its humor too. Its pacing is not too fast and not too slow and the sort of story that’s perfect for settling down to an hour of reading here and there.

If you like stories with small town settings, lots of characters, and one that leaves you with a positive feeling that there’s a reason certain things happen to us, then you’ll probably enjoy this one.

This is the first book in Michael La Ronn’s sci-fi fantasy saga, Eaten. It’s an exciting blend of fantasy, action/adventure, and cyberpunk, with humor added for taste.

VEGETABLES JUST GOT COMPLICATED.

If these vegetable freedom fighters have anything to say about it, the revolution definitely will be televised!

The blurb was much shorter than what I’d normally expect to read, but it provided enough details about the zany plot to snag my attention immediately. This is one of the most creative premises I’ve come across in a long time. I couldn’t wait to see what Mr. La Ronn had in store for his characters. Sometimes less is more, though, so once I was a chapter or two in the action I was glad that the author kept so many of the twists and turns a secret.

It would have been helpful to know a little more about the physiology of the foods who are also characters. I was never quite sure if they were all intended to be members of the same species or if every type of food was its own unique species. Some foods have children who strongly resemble them while others don’t. I found the differences between those families to be a little distracting, although it is a minor criticism of an otherwise engaging adventure.

I really enjoyed the worldbuilding in this story. The produce puns made me smile, especially when the characters themselves treated those names or terms seriously. Somehow this style of humor is even better when it’s used with a straight face. It was also intriguing to see Kendall, the main character, slowly explore the various levels of the empire he calls home. He’s spent so much time in one small part of it that he seems to be nearly as surprised by everything else that is out there as this reader was.

Eaten: The Complete First Season was so much fun to read that I had a hard time putting it down. This is a great choice for anyone who loves the playful side of science fiction.

In very few pages, Jianne Carlo spins a delightful tale of love and adventure that transported me back in time. The author’s way of writing is wonderful as it easily and without unnecessary embellishments set up the time period and drew me into Étain and Brand’s world. It is a world of dreams, magic, dangerous heroes and treacherous enemies.

Étain and Brand are delightful. Especially, Brand. He’s intelligent, courageous, handsome, romantic, a warrior, alpha… He is dreamy and I fell in love with him from the moment he appeared on the page (I can still picture those blue eyes concealed behind a hood…). His character doesn’t fall flat, but grows with each turn of the page just like Étain’s.

When I first met Étain I discovered a woman who was highly intelligent but also ridiculously chipper. I wasn’t sure if I really liked her, but the author did a wonderful job of developing her character and I quickly warmed up to her. Even more so, when her magical gift was explained and the reason for her unnatural constant happiness came to life. By the end of the story, I loved her.

With such characters, it is not surprising that the love story is marvellous. Out of bed, they have a very natural and sweet rapport. Whilst, sexually, Ms. Jianne Carlo mixes up the alpha possessiveness with a young girl’s naivety and curiosity and creates sizzling scenes that had me aching for more.

Branded by Étain can be read as a standalone, for I didn’t discover it was the beginning of a series until I finished it. I’m happy there will be more to come, for I was indeed curious about some of the secondary characters.

Branded by Étain is a quick erotic fantasy read that left a good taste in my mouth for many days.

Finally, at the height of the Perseid meteor showers, they share a midnight tryst. But not everything is as it seems, and both sisters are in for a surprise.

Things are not what they seem at The Wedding Ring ranch, and Kelsey and Audrey are about to discover that.

I loved the idea of Dave’s hidden identity and how Audrey fell for him without knowing he’s actually the owner of the ranch and many other properties and companies. It gave their love a feeling of genuineness and innocence. The premise of the story has a lot of potential, and so do the characters, particularly Dave and Audrey, but I felt like they weren’t given a chance with the length of the story being so short.

I wished for a longer story which would allow for a more in-depth characterization and more detailed background of the characters. As it was, we got a few bits of information about Audrey and Dave, but other characters, like Kelsey, were virtually an unknown. This made the characterization very black and white, with no space in the text for some interesting nuances. The development of the romance between Audrey and Dave could also have been more detailed and gradual, and consequently stronger. Maybe it was the rushed development of the story, but on occasion the narration felt immature, particularly in Kelsey’s scenes.

While the interactions between Dave and Audrey flowed smoothly, the scene where they made love felt awkward – the too detailed descriptions kept getting in the way. Even in the rest of the narration, some word choices were surprising and they kept distracting me. Just one example: riposted instead of said.  The author has serious potential, though, and I look forward to trying more of her stories as her writing matures.

Whatever, Forever is a quick read about how important it is to love someone for the right reasons.

When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horseman, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…

It’s the opportunity of a lifetime and Iona Sheehan has made it happen. All she has ever wanted to do is go to Ireland and find her roots… and learn more about the witch that she is. What she isn’t prepared for, however, is the dark force lying in wait for the return of the three. Can she and her two newfound cousins defeat this ancient evil and bring peace to their family?

Iona Sheehan is quite a character. Exuberant, young, and eager, she makes me laugh out loud throughout the book. Her love of horses and family is very endearing and sweet. I loved the way she embraced her heritage – lurking evil force or not – and dove in head first in order to be ready in time to face off with Cabhan with her cousins.

Boyle McGrath is the embodiment of all I’ve ever expected an Irishman to be. He’s surly, he’s stubborn, and he’s one hundred and ten percent lovable. His gruff reluctance to give in to his emotions is adorable and amusing because we know that Iona will find a way to worm her way into his heart, right? Once she does, they become the closest thing to a perfect couple. They don’t always agree or get along, but they find a way to stick it out in the end.

In addition to the main couple, you are treated to an entertaining cast of characters. Branna and Conner, Iona’s cousins, are like night and day, and yet so much alike sometimes that it’s scary. Maera and Fin, co-workers of Iona’s and friends of the cousins, only add humor, friendship, and love to the mix. I’d love to sit in on a night with this group, whether in Branna’s home or at the local pub, either way you know you’d be in for a night you wouldn’t forget.

Set in picturesque Ireland, a place I’ve dreamed of visiting, the story takes off from the very first page, whisking you off on adventure and into a romance you can’t help but root for. With its rich storytelling, loveable characters, and intense plot, I had a hard time putting this one down. For my first Nora Roberts novel, it was a giant win.

Lynne can’t afford the distraction of falling for a fighter pilot like Billy at this dangerous time. But every flight could be Billy’s last. Will she settle for one night of passion or risk losing him forever?

Love in the time of war is a precious thing, albeit dangerous. Both Billy and Lynne fight it because they can’t be sure they will survive and they’ve both lost so much already that they are not sure they could face more heartbreak.

The air raids and bomb-filled skies set an atmospheric background to this love story. The world is fraught with danger, and yet, for Lynne and Billy, there’s a chance they could find some peace in each other’s arms. But everything seems to be against them: Lynne’s humiliation over Billy ignoring her years ago, Billy’s doubts about how well she’s doing her job as head radio operator, their fears of heartbreak … Both characters were well-portrayed and made me want to know more about them. I wished the story were longer so that their relationship could be presented in greater detail. As it was, it felt a bit rushed, and although I wanted to, I didn’t feel the chemistry between them.

The characters and events brought the war era to life. The descriptions of the airplanes taking off to go fight the attackers, the bombings, everything added to the tension, making it even more apparent why the relationship between Lynne and Billy seemed unwise at such a time. It was easy to imagine what life was like at the time, and this was a large part of the appeal of this story. It sounded authentic and realistic.

The plotline about the traitor at the airbase felt too much like a plot device because there was little development in the storyline and it mostly served to plant the seed of doubt about Lynne in Billy. With more details and a slower build-up, it would’ve worked better, I felt.

Risking It All is a tender love story that speaks of hope and optimism. Although short, it succeeds in creating an authentic atmosphere that emphasizes the importance of recognizing when something good is coming your way and grabbing it with both hands. You never know what tomorrow will bring.
