An old woman who has given up hope and a boy who believes the impossible wonder if life would be perfect at the Westminster Dog Show.

Seventy-year old Bess Rutledge has dreamed of winning the Westminster Dog Show all her life. Despite her decades-long career as one of America’s top Standard Poodle breeders, she has decided she’s too old to hold on to her foolish dream. She sells off all the dogs in her once famous kennel except for the aging champion McCreery and his mischievous, handsome son Breaker. Part of her senses they might have been the ones to take her to Westminster, if only she’d dared to try.

Bess meets Benny, a teenager with mild autism who attends a therapeutic special school, and learns he has a dream of his own: to impress his self-absorbed mother. Benny is drawn into the world of dog shows and becomes convinced he has found the perfect way to win his mother’s attention. If he can win Westminster with either McCreery or Breaker, he just knows she will finally be proud of him. Getting Bess to go along with his plan, however, is not going to be so easy. . .

The title of this book sums up how I felt after reading it, that is was ‘almost perfect’.

It’s an enjoyable read with a theme I think we can all relate to about striving for perfection to please others and not yourself, and realizing that it might be too late to live your dream.

I loved how all the characters interacted and were eventually changed by one another. There’s Bess and Benny each wanting something and then realizing it’s basically the same thing and finally coming together to make it a reality.

The author did a great job showing us how Bess was once like Benny’s mother. Benny wants nothing more than his mother’s attention and approval and Bess’ son David wanted the same thing but her dog breeding business came first. Can she right a wrong using Benny and will her and David’s relationship ever be healed?

Benny did at times have dialogue that seemed a bit beyond his years and was the only weakness in this story. All characters were well rounded and the setting so clearly described that I felt myself emerged in this small town setting.

And who doesn’t love a book with animals? For this one it’s poodles and a lovable dog name McCreery who I felt myself cheering for when Bess and Benny decide to let him compete at the Westminister Dog Show. I won’t give away what happens but the book has a great ending that puts a smile on your face.

One final thing I like about this book is the author is donating 100% of the profits from its sale to various charities serving children and animals so what better way to help them out and get an enjoyable read in the process.

Time heals all wounds

Eager to put a dark, troubled past behind her, Trinity Ewing buys an old house that will make the perfect refuge for her and her young son once renovations are complete. The last thing on her mind is finding someone new…but the contractor she’s hired is an irresistible distraction—and Trinity can’t help but fantasize about all the business they could be doing behind closed doors.

So does one man’s touch

Noah Benningfield thought he’d put his demons behind him. But the moment he lays eyes on Trinity, the temptation he feels is too powerful to deny. Soon the attraction between them explodes into something neither of them could have imagined. But their desire will be put to the test when a shocking local murder has them dodging danger at every turn. Can the beautiful and damaged Trinity trust someone like Noah, whose own past is as haunted as her own? The only thing she knows for sure is that she can’t live without a man who makes her feel this good—over and over again…

When she moves into her new house, she has no way of knowing she’s moving out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Noah Benningfield has troubles of his own. His demons haunt his dreams and waking hours. When he sees Trinity, he thinks maybe there is a chance to find something more.

Deeper Than Need had a good premise. Two characters with haunted pasts coming together in a house with a less than savory history. Trinity needs a new start with her son and Noah wants to silence the voices that keep him up half the night. Organizing the clean-up and repairs for the old Frampton place, the two find the past is very much alive-or dead if you count the body waiting for them underneath the floorboards of the house.

Just like that a local murder is discovered, and with it the door to the past is wrenched open. Two wounded characters fumble their way through attraction, murder, taking care of Trinity’s son and the deaths of kids under Noah’s protection. The story spins up and the plot has some interesting twists. Bodies. A murderous history in Trinity’s new house. Missing kids. Missing women. Addiction. Coping. Random sex with people who hate each other.

I hadn’t read any of the previous novels/novellas in this series. From the start I felt like I was missing something. Pieces that should have made sense didn’t as a stand-alone book. The other issue I had was I could not connect with the characters. They were not relatable to me. I tried to like Trinity, but ended up being annoyed with her most of the time. Her thoughts were disjointed and much of her thoughts about Noah were insipid and repetitive. Noah was much more likeable because of his work with troubled kids, but even still the back and forth of the foreshadowing was distracting. I kept putting the book down and had to struggle my way through to the end.

One thing about the book that did resonate with me was the aspect of healing as part of the reconstructive process. Noah wasn’t just there helping Trinity repair her house, a house that held a prominent place in his past. He was rebuilding himself along the way. Trinity was as well. They both had shattered and scarred lives and were desperately trying to build something on a solid foundation. That something just happened to be a house with a body buried beneath it. The love Trinity bears for her son and her willingness to sacrifice herself for his safety was also something I appreciated.

This book is more mystery than a contemporary romance.  The mystery and sinister goings on were a good start. Not being able to connect to the people and feeling lost really put a damper on this story for me. If you are going to read it, I would go back and read the beginning. It would have filled in some of the plot holes.

An interesting mystery with some potential as a series.

Vacation can be a killer.

Dr. Kate Hampton, a respected psychiatrist, gathers with a group of strangers at her favorite travel spot, Sunset Villa in Jamaica. Included in the mix are friends of the owners, a businessman with dubious credentials, and a couple who won the trip from a TV game show.

It is January 2013, following the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The luxury resort is struggling, not from the storm, but due to a scathing review from caustic travel writer, Matthew Kane. The owners have invited him back with hopes he will pen a more favorable review to restore their reputation.

Even though she is haunted by her own demons, Kate feels compelled to help. She sets out to discover the motivation behind Kane’s vitriol. Used to getting what he wants, has the reviewer met his match in Kate? Or has she met hers?

Stranger at Sunset is a slow-burning mystery/thriller as seen through the eyes of different narrators, each with their own murky sense of justice. As Kate’s own psychological past begins to unravel, a mysterious stranger at Sunset may be the only one who can save her.

The novel opens with a quote from Sigmund Freud, “Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways.” This quote is perfect for the novel because it applies in different ways to so many of the characters. The quote is followed by a prologue which was intense and provocative, but with no names given, also elusive. After I finished the novel, I went back and re-read the prologue and saw just how effective it is at setting everything up.

Kate Hampton is a New York City psychiatrist and one of the most interesting characters I have met in a long time. She is richly portrayed with her own issues, extremely smart, a bit quirky, but spot on when she evaluates her fellow vacationers. She is good friends with Sunset Villa’s owners and is dismayed by the effect that a very negative review of Sunset Villa has had on her friends’ business. Even though she is on vacation, she wants to help by finding a way to get the reviewer, who has been asked back for a second visit, to retract his earlier vitriolic and scathing review.

The pacing is excellent, beginning slowly and building to a spine-tingling crescendo. I was totally unable to put the book down, once I’d started it. But even more than the suspense, it was the characters that attracted me. There are a number of unusual and interesting characters staying at Sunset Villa, or working there. The setting was well described, with intriguing aspects, such as Sunset Villa’s location next door to Goldeneye, “a property purchased by author Ian Fleming . . .where he dreamt up his famous James Bond character and wrote his novels.”

Lovers of psychological mystery thrillers are sure to get hooked on this one. Kate Hampton is such a complex character that her very presence makes this story something special. Stranger at Sunset may be the author’s first venture into mysteries (she is know for her literary erotica), but I sincerely hope it isn’t her last. I look forward to more mysteries with Kate Hampton.

Emperor Lucien Tarquinius agrees to retrieve the future king of a race that annihilated every Insedi female and doomed his planet’s future. Why would he do such a thing? Simple. He cannot have his enemy retake the throne and continue the war against Insedivertus. Yet an unexpected encounter changes everything.

One reviewer could not imagine how anyone could have canada super viagra contemplated such a take without eventually committing suicide. That’s the reason why it’s important for a man to have information about this problem, its occurrence and soft tabs cialis solutions. Mertz is a member of the Fine valsonindia.com free generic viagra Arts League of Cary, the Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh, and the Durham Herald-Sun. Men who are suffering from penile problems and didn’t receive any effective result from the valsonindia.com cialis prescription cost various treatments, should use Kamagra tablets. Just one day away from collecting the reluctant ruler, the royal transport inexplicably disappears from its flight path. As the empire scrambles to find their missing emperor, Lucien embarks on a journey that challenges his intellect, tests his endurance, and pushes his emotions to the breaking point.

Tana Jameson wonders who she pissed off to warrant an investigative assignment aboard a cargo ship in the middle of the Atlantic. A moment of curiosity jettisons her into an alien world beyond her imagination and directly into the arms of a man stepping right out of her wildest fantasy.

Imagine going from not believing in space aliens, to being captured and forced into slavery by a brutal race of barbarians with blue skin and yellow eyes. Tana knew she’d pissed someone off royally when she got the crap job out on the Atlantic, but she never envisioned washing clothes and peeling potatoes in her job duties. For over a month, Tana is ordered to complete various maid-like duties and is provided with the basic necessities needed to survive, but she certainly doesn’t plan on being a slave any longer than she has to. Making use of her various skills in combat and survival, she attempts to escape. Unfortunately, her captors have some very unique weaponry and manage to maintain the upper hand. Her latest foiled attempt strips her of what few privileges she did have, and lands her in her captors’ dungeon. While she’s at least given her own cell, she has no privacy and no freedom. But it’s not all bad. She does happen to meet the most gorgeous group of men she’s ever laid eyes on, one of whom happens to be situated in the cell directly across from hers. Everything about him screams virility and strength. Suddenly, despite her bizarre predicament, she sees a light at the end of her dark tunnel. There may be a way out of this crazy situation, and if she’s lucky, she’ll have the help and protection of her own group of warriors.

Lucien is the type of man who can maintain his composure even in the face of adversity. He knows he and his men are in a bad situation, but there’s a confidence in him that belies the odds stacked against them. He bides his time and analyzes everything, waiting for the opportunity for he and his men to escape. The only thing that throws a monkey wrench in his plans is Tana. Of all the places to find a female that might just be a perfect match for him… Lucian’s attraction and affection for Tana grows each day, as does his desire to protect and rescue her. If they can finagle the odds in their favor, he has no doubt his warriors will prove superior to their captors’ combat skills, but it’s no longer just about them. He won’t deny Tana has some unique talents, especially for a woman, but she is simply no match for one of them. Against his better judgment and before he can stop himself from making a monumental mistake, Lucien gives in to his body’s demand to touch her. As soon as the electrifying bolt shoots through his core, signifying their compatibility, he’s lost. Escaping their prison camp has suddenly become only one of his impending hardships. He’ll soon have to decide between selfishness and selflessness. If he claims Tana for his mate, he could possibly destroy the head-strong, nature-loving woman he fell in love with by forcing her into a confined life of politics and lies. If he sets her free, he’ll have to learn to live with a broken heart. Either way, he seems destined for misery.

At this point, I’ve just given up deciding on which book in this series is my favorite. Ms. Prater has once again surpassed my expectations. I immediately fell in love with both Tana and Lucien. In previous stories, Lucien made limited appearances and always seemed to loom in the background as this strong, untouchable figure that had a name, but not an overabundance of character, which made sense as it wasn’t quite his time. Here, he’s the star and boy, what a powerful one he is. While he’s certainly older than the main characters of previous installments—he’s the father of one, in fact—I finally got to see the youth in him. Suddenly, I removed him from the category of being “older” and placed him in the arena of the other Insedi males whose very presence commanded my attention because on their physiques, their emotions, and their alpha temperaments, and not simply because of their political status. Quite simply put, I fell in love. Again. I believe that if Ms. Prater were to come to me and offer me any one of her Insedi men, I’d have a near impossible time choosing. But it’s not just their gorgeous bodies that have me swooning, I think it’s the deep-rooted need and determination to protect their women. Call me a bit old-fashioned, but I yearn for a guy to make me feel like the most precious gem on the planet. Having him crave my body with insatiable desire doesn’t sound too bad either. Put them together and you just don’t get any more perfect than that. I’m afraid Ms. Prater has ruined me for the common man. While I don’t expect I’d find someone who can mist or live for hundreds of years—never say never—surely there’s a few guys out there who might come close to the perfectness of the Insedi male.

Book one caught my attention, book two had me hooked and asking for more, book three caused my addiction, and book four fed my habit. Now I’m left sitting here hoping for more, like a junkie strung out on alien men. Once again, Ms. Prater, I believe you have a few stories left to write. Leaving any of these mouth-drooling guys without a mate just seems downright wrong. And if you’re in need of a willing female, I’m your gal.

Sadly, I’ve reached the end of a story about one of Ms. Celeste Prater’s wonderful Insedi men. I could probably come up with a fancy way to say how great it is and why everyone who loves a little science fiction with their warrior should read it, but when it comes down to it, quite simply put, I loved it. No ifs, ands, or buts. Ms. Prater has weaved a magical world with memorable characters and meaningful dilemmas and I’d like to thank her for being so spectacularly creative. Her stories have touched my heart from many different angles and I’m so grateful I’ve gotten to read them.

But when Toby meets Damon, his predictable little life flies right out the window. Damon shows him the big, wide world of the Dom/sub lifestyle, plugs and piercings, and teaches him that maybe, unpredictable is exactly what Toby needed all along.

Damon loves his bar, the Corner Pub and is very happy with his life. But his curiosity about the sweet little pale skinned, red-haired twink is beginning to burst. Every Thursday night for over three years now the man comes in, sits quietly by himself, drinks two honey wheat brews then heads off – still alone. When Damon finally asks for his story, he discovers Toby is a sculptor at The Spotted Pig and he works there on Thursdays. Toby responds to Damon’s flirting, albeit shyly, and soon Damon can’t help himself, craving to teach the sweet man all he knows.

This is a fast paced novel, full of surprises and raunchy M/M antics. I loved how Toby was sweet and in many ways innocent, but not naïve or campy. Damon was an interesting blend of dominant and understanding. Part of me (especially in the first chapter or so) wanted Damon to move a bit slower with Toby, but I quickly understood what the author was doing and respected him – and Damon – for not shying away or beating around the bush. Damon is a take-charge kind of character and while he pushed forward, full steam ahead, he never was uncaring or overwhelming to Toby, and that made me enjoy and respect both these characters even more.

I love how while the pace was fast, and Damon certainly pushed Toby in all manner of ways, but there was still plenty of room for the romance of their relationship to flourish. The die-hard romantic in me was deeply satisfied with how much time and effort both men spent not only on getting to know each other, but exploring and learning each other inside and out of bed. While I found there is plenty of play and talking of fantasies and experimenting, this isn’t a hard-edged story. I would happily recommend it for readers who love their M/M and even some who are dipping a toe into the water for the first time.

Full of wonderful dialogue, surprising laughs and a sweet, glorious pairing this is an excellent book and strongly romantic. With enough spice and edge to make me blush, but still be sweet and emotional this book hit a lot of perfect notes for me. I’d happily recommend it and look forward to reading it again.

Curlew Champion, master archer, has always known his destiny. With his cousin, Heron Scarlet, he will become a guardian of Sherwood Forest and further his people’s fight against Norman tyranny. But the third member of the triad is still to be revealed, the woman who will complete the magical circle and, perhaps, answer the longing in Curlew’s heart.

But the wildness that possesses her refuses to quiet. She knows she’s been searching for something all her life, but not until she glimpses Curlew does her spirit begin to hope it has found its home.

Only the magic of Sherwood can bring them together, and only their union can complete the spell woven so long ago…

I loved this story from page one. It continues the story of Robin Hood’s daughter and grandchildren and the mysterious and magical Sherwood Forest. There are still problems with the Sheriff of Nottingham and his men. The people are still being victimized, and are fighting back. This leads to many of their homes being burned and villagers slain.

There is a circle of three who are guardians in Sherwood Forest. This magic keeps them and Sherwood Forest safe and they do what they can to protect the people. When the three guardians are no longer able to provide this safety, the guardianship passes on. The two men, Heron and Curlew, grandchildren of Robin and Marian, will be two of the next three. They are still waiting to find the third. It must be a woman. The present guardian, Lark, is dying and it becomes crucial to find the woman.

I thought that this would be similar to the second one, and I was prepared to be a little bored. However, as I read I became so involved with the story, I found it difficult to put down the book. These guardians are different and there are different challenges. As they search for the third person, it becomes really unique and I could hardly wait for them to resolve situation. As the story progresses, you can really see and have no doubts as to the magic surrounding them. The woman in the story is a surprise and yet, it makes perfect sense.

There is much going on, and they must keep protecting the people and the forest. I could hardly put this story down. Although this story stands alone, I enjoyed it so much I can only hope there is a book four in this series. I would highly recommend this book and all the others. A great series.

He’s an actor, and an author, and he helped solve a murder several months ago, but still, he doesn’t feel focused. He confides this malaise to his girl friend, Kristy, as the small AWB Theatre Company heads to the tropical island of Illyria at the request of Mr. Barset, who is trying to turn the island into a paradise resort. When Kristy comments on this he says, “I should depend on different friends being murdered to keep me from getting depressed?”

This is an exciting mystery which Mark has to solve long-distance as the theatre company only stays on Illyria for a few days. Mark comes up with various explanations which his friends find very far-fetched, something that a writer might think up. But Mark never gives up, and eventually, with some help from Kristy, he solves the case.

This is the second novel in this series and I feel it is even stronger than the first. The characters are fairly well developed and the plot has a number of twists and turns. I did figure things out, at least in a general way, before Mark did, but not by much. The island of Illyria seemed very real, and a trifle sad, as it was supposed to do. I loved all the Shakespeare quotes and I agree with Mark that the Bard has a quote for any situation. The clever ways Twelfth Night contributed to the plot just increased my enjoyment of the novel.

Mystery lovers, especially those who are also fans of Shakespeare, will certain enjoy A Dying Fall.

When Captain Richard Greyston encounters three figures in a graveyard, he takes them for a spectral visitation until he realizes it is two young ladies—in their nightgowns, no less—and their spinsterish companion. A spinster with slender limbs and an enchantingly velvety voice.

Pembra doesn’t care a whit for the captain’s opinion of her, even after circumstances force them into a sham betrothal. But when a gypsy warns her that his life hangs in the balance, she begins to realize that her heart is not so uninvolved as she might like to pretend.

Will the chemistry between Greyston and Pembra ignite their passion, or burn their hearts to ash?

Naturally, I was not surprised that their courtship was far from normal. As I began the story, I looked forward to finding out how these two stubborn characters would find their way to each other. However, Pembra and Greyston’s strong wills aren’t the only threat to their happiness. Another nefarious character waits for the opportunity to pounce. Will Pembra recognize the threat before it is too late?

Pembra is unbelievably outspoken, but I admire her unwillingness to play games. Her frankness is rather shocking at times. I never knew what was going to come out of her mouth next. While her sharp tongue is a source of entertainment, I do think she goes too far sometimes. Pembra seems determined to thwart her own happy ending. However, I was pleased to discover that underneath Pembra’s prickly exterior is a woman with a warm heart who cares not only for her family, but also anyone in need.

Greyston’s reputation is tarnished, but I liked that he never denies it or tries to pretend he is something he isn’t. He is always honest about his feelings and what he hopes for in a relationship with Pembra. I think it takes a lot of courage for Greyston to be so open about his feelings in the face of such a strong-willed woman.

Initially, I found the squabbling between Pembra and Greyston entertaining. They are both willful, but they clearly have chemistry to burn. However, the bickering never seemed to end. Greyston is very patient and shows his tender side occasionally, but Pembra is always quick to squash it immediately. She never gives him a chance to prove what kind of man he is, and she is more than willing to believe the worst about him at every opportunity, and yet when Pembra is presented with a real threat, she fails to recognize it.

Greyston is not innocent either. He teases Pembra relentlessly and then has the audacity to be surprised when she is upset. Pembra and Greyston’s antagonizing behavior just became too much after a while. At times, it was hard for me to see why they found each other attractive in the first place, and I seriously began to doubt that they should be together. They never have any civil conversations with each other, let alone one of substance. When they finally did start to treat each other like human beings, it was almost too little too late, in my opinion.

Even though the path to Pembra and Greyston’s happy ending is rough, the resolution to their tale is very satisfying. I won’t spill the details, but the circumstance that finally brought them together is very fitting considering how Pembra chooses to spend her free time.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Miss Remond’s Deception. Readers who enjoy a heroine with a sharp tongue on a rocky road to romance should consider picking up a copy today.

Can true love be found in the hunt for a killer? It’s Bree Branson’s first day at Pemberton Private Hospital and the last thing she needs is a patient dying in suspicious circumstances on her watch. The only person who can help her clear her name is the one person she was hoping to avoid, the devastatingly handsome Sam Vincent . . . the doctor she stood up three years ago. Forced to work together to find a killer, will Bree and Sam be able to leave their past behind to find a future together?

It was amazing to watch how the relationship between Bree and Sam developed. From jilted lovers to friends with a lot of unresolved sexual tension between them, to utterly in love with each other – all written in a way that made it natural, believable and a delight to follow. Their relationship progressed smoothly and at a pace that made it possible to watch them develop deep feelings for each other, without it being too drawn-out.

The same goes for the suspenseful subplot that was intense enough to keep the reader guessing and reading for more clues, but not too exaggerated to drown out the romance aspects of the novel. The two were very nicely connected and worked together perfectly. Even though my knowledge of drugs and medical procedures is very limited, the mystery plot wasn’t hard to follow. It was simple enough to understand without any medical knowledge, but intricate enough to make it spine-tingling suspenseful.

Obviously, Bree and Sam were wonderful characters that I couldn’t help but fall in love with, but the rest of the hospital staff was very well-written, too. The nurses, some of which were at first glance shown as ignorant, lazy or standoffish, were then introduced in such detail that they appeared like real people with real problems and hopes and histories. Sam’s and Bree’s families, too, were an integral part of the story and although they were not the sort of characters I would identify with, their personalities were shown in a way that made them feel like people with authentic motives and a logic behind their actions.

The closer I got to the end of the novel, the more I wished it would never end. I wanted more of the delicious attraction between Bree and Sam, more scenes that so clearly showed how deeply Sam loved Bree, more of Bree’s heartbreak because she thought she could never have Sam … But unfortunately, the novel ended…and I wanted more!  I’m very glad I had the chance to read it.

In my path, Birdie gets another offer for a private show at the benefactor’s house and chooses to go. She is promised a dinner if she will perform for the reclusive wealthy man. A little afraid, she does it, but in the middle of her act, she discovers something about her new patron that sets her on her ear.

This is a sexy short work of fiction. The writing style is florid and full of description, taking you back to a depression era traveling circus and what life might have been like for a girl in Adelaide’s social standing. Things are not always what they seem and in this tale it is more true than most. I loved the ending—but I won’t say more because I don’t want to give you a spoiler.

Jane Nin is a wonderful writer and I look forward to more of her work. I think Silk Words may be on to something with the CYOA stories. Being able to choose…now that’s what I call sexy.
