While her sharp tongue is a source of entertainment, I do think she goes too far sometimes. Pembra seems determined to thwart her own happy ending. However, I was pleased to discover that underneath Pembra’s prickly exterior is a woman with a warm heart who cares not only for her family, but also anyone in need.

Greyston’s reputation is tarnished, but I liked that he never denies it or tries to pretend he is something he isn’t. He is always honest about his feelings and what he hopes for in a relationship with Pembra. I think it takes a lot of courage for Greyston to be so open about his feelings in the face of such a strong-willed woman.

Initially, I found the squabbling between Pembra and Greyston entertaining. They are both willful, but they clearly have chemistry to burn. However, the bickering never seemed to end. Greyston is very patient and shows his tender side occasionally, but Pembra is always quick to squash it immediately. She never gives him a chance to prove what kind of man he is, and she is more than willing to believe the worst about him at every opportunity, and yet when Pembra is presented with a real threat, she fails to recognize it.

Greyston is not innocent either. He teases Pembra relentlessly and then has the audacity to be surprised when she is upset. Pembra and Greyston’s antagonizing behavior just became too much after a while. At times, it was hard for me to see why they found each other attractive in the first place, and I seriously began to doubt that they should be together. They never have any civil conversations with each other, let alone one of substance. When they finally did start to treat each other like human beings, it was almost too little too late, in my opinion.

Even though the path to Pembra and Greyston’s happy ending is rough, the resolution to their tale is very satisfying. I won’t spill the details, but the circumstance that finally brought them together is very fitting considering how Pembra chooses to spend her free time.
