Lacy Dahl never questioned her past until the deaths of her adoptive parents and her husband. A husband who wasn’t what he seemed. Her research uncovers secrets about the mother she never knew; secrets that dispute the identity of her father and threaten her life.

Sheriff Chance Meadowlark is still haunted by the murder of his wife and the revenge he unleashed in the name of justice. When he meets Lacy he is determined not to become involved, but their pasts may make that impossible. As they move closer to the truth, saving Lacy may be his only salvation.

Lacy begins to think the present is more important than her past…until Chance’s connection to her mother and a murder spin her deeper into danger and further from love. Will the truth destroy Lacy and Chance or will it be the answer that frees them?

Descriptive and interesting, The Art of Love and Murder captured my attention from the first.

The book’s strength is in its characters and descriptions. Lacy and Chance are well drawn, well rounded, unique and interesting. They have strengths and flaws, interesting backstory and are folks I would have liked to meet in real life. Most of the secondary characters are also well done, though some are too much one thing. The villain is too completely evil (I really prefer a villain who might also have some good points … purely evil people don’t ring true for me) and I struggled to understand why women seemed to fall at his feet. He made my skin crawl. And Kitty was a bit over the top as a floozy, making me wonder what Chance ever saw in her. He’s not a shallow guy, and you don’t get much shallower than Kitty.

The setting was a character in itself. I loved the town! The author really made it come to life, not stinting on details (but not boring the reader either).

As a huge fan of mysteries, I found this one to be a bit disappointing. We know who the villain is from the start (much of the book is told from his point of view, and there’s no effort to hide his identity) and we know who the “mysterious” artist is, even if Lacy questions it at first. The clues are laid out with a heavy hand. We don’t know all the “whys” and I suppose that makes the journey interesting, but honestly, I read this book (and enjoyed it) for the characters and their journey and not the mystery.

Despite the few flaws, the writing kept me turning pages and I never once thought about setting it down. So, if you like a little light suspense with your romance, and prefer character driven novels, I can recommend The Art of Love and Murder.

They said the disappearance of two high school students over 25 years ago was mystery that couldn’t be solved.
No one ever said it shouldn’t be.

Following the abrupt end of a relationship, college student Kimberly Bradford finds comfort in the friendship with her over-the-top neighbor, Mallory. And, Mallory encourages her to get back out there. She would of course if it weren’t for the thrilling little love notes and gifts she’s been receiving.

Prey of Desire is a psychological thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Mysteries abound and there is a cast of characters who are each rather weird in their own way, so there are myriad suspects. I had the mystery all solved, several times, actually, but none of my solutions were the right one. I was totally fooled and the ending really took me by surprise.

Kim is a college student who broke up with her long-time boyfriend, but she wants him back. Even when her neighbor and friend, Mallory, sets her up on various blind dates, Kim resists. She keeps getting messages from Ross and she is sure they will get back together.

The tension builds on every page. People seem to be following Kim or staring at her. The descriptions are so real that I wouldn’t want to read this novel at night. It was definitely scary. Knowing that there had been other victims twenty-five years ago and knowing that the murderer was still striking in the same horrible way drives the story forward even though Kim herself has little knowledge of the past or the other victims.

The characters are well portrayed and they all seem very real, although many are not people that I would ever want to meet. Some are just wild, like Mallory, but some have serious problems. I was very glad that Kim has Zeus, a Doberman, although she certainly does have her hands filled trying to manage him.

The plot is filled with twists and turns, taking things in directions that I never expected. Mysterious phone calls, love notes, gifts, keep appearing and Kim thinks they are from Ross, but … who is actually sending these messages?

Readers of mystery thrillers are sure to be captured by this heart-stopping book. I just wouldn’t recommend reading it after dark.

In a dystopian future where paranormal creatures have assimilated into human society, a young woman fights to expose the mastermind behind an illegal drug only to discover that to stop him, she must risk losing everything – including her humanity.

Abandoned at birth, Addison Kittner’s been on her own since she was a kid–ever since the paranormal terrorists attacked cities around the world. Battling creatures that go bump in the night nearly destroyed human society. Good thing not all paranormals were evil and the terrorists were eventually stopped. Bad thing? Nothing would ever be the same again.

It is also seen that the disorder cannot go viagra cialis generic away from the life of the patient and can deteriorate his personal and professional life causing low self-esteem and lack of confidence. For one, highly addictive drugs can be made from vampire venom now that the truth is out. Add in a little magic and the drug becomes irresistible. Addison’s partner and on-the-sly boyfriend, werewolf FBI agent Cooper Daine, has been trying to find out who’s behind this new threat to humanity. But when he gets too close to the truth, he finds himself falsely accused of taking bribes from the very drug cartel he hunts.

Addison knows he’s innocent, but the FBI have other ideas and suddenly she finds herself in their sights. When they come knocking on her door and decide breaking it down is more effective, she does what any smart ex-street kid would, she runs. Next thing she knows, someone’s trying to assassinate Cooper, Lord Bellmonte is threatening to hurt her friends if she doesn’t find out who’s making the drug, and talented kid practitioners are disappearing from their school without a trace.

As the lies pile up, one thing becomes clear–the mastermind behind the drugs is someone more powerful and evil than anything she’s ever come up against. Addison doesn’t stand a chance of winning. Not without giving up the one thing she treasures most– Her humanity.

We’re in for a fun ride with this second installment of Judy Teel’s MAGIC series. We first met the characters in Shifty Magic and I strongly recommend you read that book first. Ms. Teel drops the reader right in the middle of the action in Undercover Magic and it would be helpful to already know who the players are and how they relate to each other.

Addy is a strong character who is not only trying to figure out who/what she is, but is also navigating the relationship circuit with Cooper while at the same time staying one step ahead of a corrupt FBI agent. Not to mention she also has to deal with the head vampire, Lord Bellmonte, who still has his own agenda going on.

Cooper has been accused of taking bribes, so Addy and her cohorts try to find the evidence to clear him– oh, and stay alive at the same time.

These characters are wonderfully drawn– you care about what happens to them. It’s an easy book to get lost in. When reading Judy Teel’s MAGIC books, I find myself in their world. I could so see these made into a movie/TV series and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

So, even though Caitlyn is pretty sure Slade doesn’t return her feelings she can’t help but fantasize about being married to him. But, is a loveless marriage really the solution?

Slade ‘s plan isn’t as practical as he would have Caitlyn believe. It’s entirely possible he has other ulterior motives for pushing a wedding down Caitlyn’s throat and jeopardizing their friendship in the process. What would happen if Caitlyn knew the real reason Slade proposed marriage?

This short story is sexy and steamy and sweet all at the same time. It was a fun read set in a unique locale and of course has a HEA.

I read A LOT of romance novels. Contemporary romance especially, seems to have one or two set formulas that are adhered to. If certain themes crop up often it doesn’t stymie my enjoyment of the book, but it is always nice to come across something entirely original. While this particular scenario isn’t done over much, it is still a common enough. In fact, it’s done in historical romances as well. For some reason this theme seems to work better in the historical genre and comes off quite charming if done right, but with contemporary that’s a little harder to pull off.

The story line in this one makes it work much better than I would have thought and I think the author’s decision to keep the story short worked in her favor. The pacing was wonderful and the tension builds at just the right speed so things don’t feel rushed. It’s short with some heat. This light romance makes the perfect break or lunchtime escape.

What would it take to convince you that the woods you just left is a hundred and forty-four years distant from the one you entered?

Ten years have passed since the Civil War broke up John Bartley’s family. Living with his aunt and uncle in the tiny village of Greendale, Vermont, isn’t filled with excitement for a seventeen-year-old.

Until John walks into the woods one day and stumbles into 2009…

What became of his home? Why is there no record of its existence?

Sometimes you choose an adventure, and sometimes the adventure chooses you.

As soon as I read the premise of this novel, I knew I had to find out what happens next. Time travel is such a fascinating concept, and it’s even more intriguing when the protagonist does it accidentally. I liked seeing John go through his daily routines for a little while before he was suddenly jerked out of them. It developed his personality as well as helped me feel empathy for how disoriented he felt by the world he stumbled into.

John’s wide-eyed response to everything that has changed between his time and our own was quite funny. I was confused by his use of the English language, though, as there weren’t that many differences between the way he speaks and how Tess would phrase the same question or statement. Other than not understanding common words like car or cell phone, his speech patterns were almost indistinguishable from modern English. I briefly wondered if this was a side effect of the time travel, but my theory was never confirmed or denied.

There is still so much about these characters and the worlds they live in that has yet to be explored. From what I understand, there is a sequel to this book in the works. While I was satisfied with how this particular tale ended, I’d love to find out what happens to John and Tess next.

I’d recommend The Sun, the Moon, and Maybe the Trains to adult and young adult readers alike. This book has a little something for everyone!

Betrayed by the men she loved and condemned by the media as an embezzler, financial advisor Ela Danforth seeks sanctuary in the small town of Rockypoint, New Hampshire. She believes her days will return to normal, but a mysterious stalker threatens her refuge, just as a charming lawyer, Nash McCain, enters her life. Despite his help in dealing with her unknown menace, she’s determined not to let anyone get close to her again. She plans to face life with cold, hard realism. But if she puts her trust in Nash, can their relationship finally bring her peace or will it lead to more heartbreak and danger for both of them?

Nora LeDuc opens Trust Me with an unexpected dramatic scene that forewarns readers about the levels of the thrills to come in this gripping novella.

Nash McCain, single Dad to an always-worried daughter Lanie, meets the lovely Ela Danforth in circumstances well outside his usual “mother-introduces special woman” way. It’s rural New Hampshire, picturesque but a little out of the way, and how much romance potential could there be in an accidental meeting?

Ela’s life is complex, although her feelings aren’t. There seems all kinds of hope for a future developing from this chance meeting… but the unexpected lurks out there in the form of someone’s ill-will. Nash is interesting, but readers will quickly find themselves caught up in Ela’s predicament.

Uncovering what really happened in those opening events becomes important; but also, terribly, terribly dangerous. Suz, the younger sister Ela has charge of, might have been involved in something, but Ela has no idea exactly what. She fears for her sister, but Suz is by no means the only one in danger. We readers have a peek at the danger, the growing animosity – but does Ela understand? Will she turn to the one person she can really trust? Questions and fears only grow as the story continues. Romance is no mere second fiddle in this plot, either, as so much hinges on Ela allowing the right person to help.

Some better idea of setting – of the town and distances between some of the events would have added a better sense of how some specific events transpired. After initially placing events in the White Mountain area of NH, it could have been anywhere.  On the other hand, conversations were completely natural and believable, and the suspense built steadily and unpredictably. Trust Me is a must read.

Kidnapping Isame would set them free…

Isame wanted freedom: the freedom to travel, the freedom to explore, but most of all, the freedom to choose the life she wanted over the life—and the husband—her parents had chosen for her. But when Isame leaves home to accept another man’s proposal, she happens across five fierce, handsome warriors. She wonders why they’ve travelled so far from home, but she never imagines their purpose might have something to do with her. Not even after they kidnap her.

So when his king commands him to find a specific young woman on the island of Copaxa, he’s prepared to obey. But he’s not prepared for the woman to change everything. Isame is special. He can see it from the start. But how can one puny woman make him question everything he’s always known, including the rightness of doing what he’s promised?

Isame doesn’t want to stay in the village and marry the man her parents have chosen for her. She wants her freedom to travel, see other lands, and find her own love. But she has no choice…

Stories about the fae always draw me in but the arranged marriage theme also does. It’s hard enough to stay married to someone when you love them, who wants to be given in marriage to someone you don’t even know? Ms. Hubbard has a smooth writing style that draws you into the story and she gives you tidbits of information as you go along.

You know Isame is different because she heals quickly, too quickly to be human. However, she certainly didn’t expect to get kidnapped by the King’s Warriors. She’s going to get to see different lands and travel great distances but it won’t be as a free woman.

She tries to gain sympathy from her captors by telling them about her life. She gets mostly silence but she keeps trying. Eventually, one of them talks to her and tells her a little about their lives. As they keep travelling the relationship between them begins to change and they start to become friends instead of fiends. There is a bad apple in the bunch, though.

You can tell from what’s said and what’s not that the King wants her for nefarious purposes. The Warriors are not really comfortable with that. If that’s not enough danger in her life, the bad Warrior has been killed for attacking her, but he returns. The reason he returns has to do with her and he’s coming after her.

There’s plenty of excitement while the Warriors and Isame try to find the gypsy woman who wouldn’t share her fortune with her, the bad Warrior is after her, and the King is beginning to wonder why it’s taking them so long to get home.

The ending is magnificent and totally unexpected. This is the first in a new series so you know there will be more to come and I, for one, am glad to see that. There’s a romance blooming and I’m hoping it will be a happy ever after for both of them. Ms. Hubbard has me hooked.

Will her crush get in the way of her career or can she find a way to push the other woman out of her mind before it’s too late?

It’s common to develop a crush on a coworker, but is it always a bad idea to act on those feelings?

Poor Virginia is a bundle of nerves. Some of the things she worries about are absolutely legitimate, but there were a few times when I wanted to give her a hug and tell her to try assuming the best about what other people are thinking instead for while. She’s the kind of character this fellow worrywart can’t help but to sympathize with due to how much detail was packed into every one of her internal monologues. Figuring out how to shut down those unhelpful thoughts isn’t easy, but it’s sure nice to know that you’re not the only one trying to tune them out!

The first sex scene caught me by surprise. I knew it was coming eventually, of course, but it felt premature due to everything else that is going on as well as the serious nature of the scenes that sandwich it. Delaying it until certain subplots found their resolutions would have earned this book a much higher rating.

Speaking of subplots, I wasn’t expecting to find so many of them in this piece. Each one adds depth to Virginia’s backstory and personality. It was entertaining to see how they all eventually tied together. While they could have been expanded into a full-length novel, they worked just as well in a novella of this length. There is definitely room for a sequel, though, if Ms. Felthouse ever decides to write one.

Sweet Spot was a fun ride. This is a great choice for anyone in the mood for a well-developed tale whose secondary story lines are nearly as interesting as the main event.

Virginia, Lady Burke, is well aware that the powerful ex-spy will try to take command of their quest, but it’s her job to keep him under control. Yet how can she keep this untamable scoundrel under her thumb when all she really wants is to unleash the smoldering passion between them?

At last! We get to find out what has been going on with Nick, Lord Forrester, in this wrap up to the Inferno Club series. Nick has been languishing in a Scottish prison for six months, when he is released into the custody of Virginia, (Gin) Lady Burke. In previous books in this series, there was some doubt cast on Nick’s loyalty, and though he ended up proving himself by taking a bullet meant for regent, he still was sentenced to prison for trying to leave the Inferno Club, which is a lifelong obligation.

Lady Burke, it seems, is the biological daughter of Virgil, the deceased beloved trainer of this generation of Inferno Club brothers, including Nick. She desperately wanted to be a member, but since she was a female, her father wouldn’t consider it. She’s now a wealthy widow, and actually does a lot of investigating and rescue work of her own. But she has now run into a situation where she needs Nick’s help. The fact that she is Virgil’s daughter is the only reason Nick is released into her custody.

Nick is a very sympathetic character. He is tired of the killing, tired of what he’s become, and he just wants to earn enough money to go to America and start a new life. His reason for originally joining the order is no longer valid, and he is one lonely, confused man. Gin’s offer will let him start over, after he helps her, so he agrees.

Though Gin is a strong woman, and does good things, I just couldn’t connect with her. I found her too hard. She does things and wants things that she forbids her teenage son to do. She is also openly living a lifestyle, of which her son disapproves. Her lack of honesty is the cause of a lot of the ensuing action in this story. Yet, she does have a genuine love for Nick, and they have an explosive chemistry together.

The story itself neatly wraps up the series. One could read this as a stand alone, but it’s certain to be enjoyed more if you have read the previous books. For those who have followed along, it’s a satisfying conclusion to the Inferno Club.

Liv Barnett may not like swimming, but she’s ready to dive into her new life when the chance presents itself.

What I loved about Liv was her feisty character. She’s such a wonderful person I instantly found myself rooting for her and wanting for her bad luck to change. When we first meet her, her life is headed nowhere, and she’s not even sure where she wants it to go. But then the wise and friendly Vam makes sure her life is turned upside down when she bequeaths Liv half of Paradise Point marina.

When Adam shows up to see for himself who his co-owner of the Marina is, the chemistry between him and Liv just jumps off the page. Their scenes are so skillfully written that I couldn’t get enough of them, even their initial animosity screams ‘attraction’. The dialogue is witty and natural, the narrative flows nicely, including beautiful descriptions of nature and the marina. The plot is fast-paced and although some of the events at first seem slightly unbelievable, they tie in with the overarching story in the end, making it a well-plotted and intriguing novel.

I love that the protagonists of the story, although single and with no immediate plans to change that fact, are not presented as people who’ve sworn against relationships, but are single simply because life happened that way. It makes their relationship far more believable and sweet. The initial tension between them grows into a hot passion, and the author shows that wonderfully. Their scenes are not too sweet, not awkward or forced, they’re just right. Like Adam and Liv are just right for each other, their characters complementing each other well. Where Liv is determined, energetic and loving, Adam is extremely well-trained in his job but not overbearing or pushy because of it. He knows when he’s lost and he certainly loses when Liv turns on her charm. Not that Liv isn’t feeling lightheaded when Adam comes to her rescue. Several times.

The action and suspense only add to the emotional intensity of the story, making it a fulfilling, well-written experience.

Despite the novel being short, it doesn’t lack anything. If you’re looking for a quick fix of strong emotions, passion and action, this is it. I’ll certainly add this author’s work on my TBR list.
