Rob’s been working like the proverbial dog for months when he takes a trip to Granier Falls with his sister. Grateful for the break, he can’t believe his good fortune when he meets Maddie. She’s playful, fun, unpretentious with a beguiling innocence and unlike any woman he’s met in recent memory.

A long distance friendship soon turns into a torture of its own for Rob who shows up on her doorstep with nothing more on his mind than the hope of a wild weekend with the woman he can’t forget.

Cursed from birth, both he and his sister share a trait that they can’t explain, and have feared since their very power forced them out on the run. When there is a faint flicker of hope for a normal life, it crashes around him when his sister is yanked out of her home. Trouble from his past collides with the force of Maddie’s over-protective family and Rob is faced with the challenge of a lifetime–save his sister, love Maddie, or lose them both.

All he wants is a normal life with Maddie in Granier Falls. But the truth about his power could ruin it all before the end of the weekend.

What starts out as innocent phone calls between Maddie and Rob had turned into something far more sensual. When Rob turns up on her doorstep one night they finally can stop talking and start doing. But Maddie has a few secrets, the biggest one being that she’s a witch. What she doesn’t know is Rob has a few secrets of his own – and soon both their hidden issues are going to break free and cause them both problems. Quickly they realise they’re going to have to come clean and trust each other.

This is a smoking hot book. The chemistry between Maddie and Rob leaps up from the page and grabs you by the throat. There are quite a few subplots revolving around both Maddie and Rob’s secrets and their assorted family members in particular. While these smaller plots interwoven together are interesting it’s the relationship blossoming between Maddie and Rob that really captured my attention. Showing really human concerns, personal issues and learning to trust another with one’s heart this story touched a number of tender places and held on tightly to my emotions.

With an easy, smoothly flowing writing style and characters that linger in your mind long after you’ve put the book down, this is certainly an author I plan to keep an eye out for. Add in scorching hot sex and a hero to die for – this is an excellent way to inject some spice into a quiet weekend.

Which is worse…the monster within or without?

Wooing a new patron at the emperor’s ball had been Jarrin Lestrave’s only hope after being discarded by the baroness. He finds the perfect subject, but in the end doesn’t follow through on his plans. Yet the next day he finds he’s been marked a traitor to the realm-for defiling the emperor’s daughter. Something which he did not do.

The Twelve, the emperor’s secret guard, are sent after him. And when they catch him, they do not kill him. A worse fate has been set aside for him. He is to lose his humanity and become enslaved to the empire for eternity.

Then he meets his accuser-Princess Yolandra. As he battles with his rising hatred and the invisible chains thrust upon him, he begins to see that all is not as it seems-his fate tied to the possible return of the madness which once before decimated the world around them.

How could Jarrin’s life have gone so far off track?

Jarrin is a young man with dreams of being a poet. However, when I met him in the pages of The Price of Mercy, his life is certainly not turning out as he had hoped. Used and then discarded by his former patroness, Jarrin feels trapped in a life he’s deeply ashamed of. Just when he thinks things couldn’t possibly get any worse, he’s hunted down for a crime he didn’t commit. I felt myself getting incredibly angry as Jarrin suffered injustice after injustice for something he didn’t do. He’s never given any explanation, let alone anything that resembles a trial. He is simply caught and punished. I completely understood Jarrin’s rage as his former existence is torn away from him.

At first, Jarrin’s anger at his plight is all consuming. All he wants are answers. When he finally meets his accuser, Princess Yolandra, he can barely contain the violence threatening to spill out of him. I held my breath wondering if Jarrin would make a bad situation even worse. However, something amazing happens once Jarrin speaks to Yolnadra. He discovers that she too has been forced into making tough choices. Not only do Jarrin and Yolandra become friends, but I was also pleasantly surprised to see the first bloom of romance follow soon after. Jarrin and Yolandra don’t have time to dwell on their new feelings because it quickly becomes apparent that someone is plotting against the empire. Jarrin and Yolandra have their suspicions about the culprit, but the motives and goals of their suspect remain murky. Will they figure it out before it is too late?

I do wish Yolandra had been a bit more rounded. She doesn’t seem to have any real character flaws. She does what her father asks, even though it causes her suffering, without questioning his motives. She simply does her duty and is incredibly selfless. Still, I did like her spirit and bravery in the face of danger. She never gives up, no matter how dire the situation seems.

I must advise readers that they need to exercise a bit of patience when reading The Price of Mercy as the first part of the tale is a bit slow and is mainly focused on Jarrin and the changes he goes through as he adjusts to his new life. However, once the situation concerning Yolandra becomes clear, the pacing really pick up. My patience was definitely rewarded as I found myself caught up in Jarrin and Yolandra’s story as they struggle not only to save themselves, but the world as they know it.

I’m certainly glad I had the opportunity to read The Price of Mercy. The world Ms. Oliver has created is enchanting, and Jarrin is certainly a character I can cheer for. I recommend The Price of Mercy to anyone wanting to escape into a wonderful fantasy with just a touch of romance.

When Sheriff Keylee discovers escaped mental patient Simon Fielding wandering down the desolate road of Shepherd’s Pass in a sleepwalking trance, he takes him into custody with the intent of returning him to Jessup County Hospital with few questions asked.

The sheriff’s dispatcher Debbie is a bit more curious. She has looked into the matter of Mr. Fielding’s escapes and come across some unsettling information regarding Jessup County Hospital and a former psychologist who was believed to be involved in a patient’s escape attempt from the hospital twenty years earlier.

Dr. Douglas Grover, a clinical psychiatrist on the ward, is a particularly strong advocate for Simon’s discharge. He meets with him for sessions on a weekly basis where they continually discuss the haunting dreams that Simon has convinced himself are glimpses of the future. These visions involve an illuminate figure that appears on a brightly lit path and produces a series of images, the most disturbing of which involves a terrible car accident on Shepherd’s Pass, which Simon believes is the revelation of his death.

Dr. Grover is suspicious of the images and wants to know more. He reveals to Simon his own personal investigation into the history of Shepherd’s Pass and even admits to having remarkably lucid dreams where he too is confronted with his own demise. He further confesses to have encountered a bizarre book, detailing several accounts of complex dreams similar to the ones that both of them are experiencing. The common denominator is, of course, the road: Shepherd’s Pass.

As the doctor and patient continue to exchange theories, a decision is made to return to the Pass for further investigation. What happens next will forever alter the men’s lives.

How do you know you’re not dreaming right now?

I started The Road of Things to Come confident that I knew what was going on and more or less what was happening to each one of the characters. I was wrong. No sooner would I formulate a new hypothesis based on the latest twist than I’d realize that I still hadn’t figured anything out. It isn’t always easy to blend the scifi and mystery genres but Mr. Lott combined the best elements of both effortlessly in his latest work.

It’s difficult to talk about Sheriff Keylee, Simon Fielding, Dr. Grover and everyone else without giving away spoilers but sufficed to say these guys kept me on my toes. First impressions here are about as likely to be correct as they are in real life. Some folks are exactly whom they appear to be. Others may surprise you.

The concept of this book is intriguing. It reminds me of a vivid dream that follows you into the waking world. In the moment everything in it appears to make sense and you’re eager to find out what the unusual imagery or unexpected plot twists actually meant. Unfortunately certain loose ends never quite come together again and I walked away confused about which scenes were real and what actually happened in a few of them. By no means do I expect a tale like this to answer every question for us but it would have been helpful for this reader to have a little more guidance on which narrators can be relied upon to tell the truth.

To be honest this isn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever read and I wouldn’t recommend it for people who prefer more easily digestible fodder. Follow the plot to the end, though, and you’ll find a story that cannot be forgotten. Ultimately this is where The Road of Things to Come shines. There’s something to be said for fiction that pops back into your mind days or weeks later and even with the questions that have yet to be answered about these characters I’m so glad I met them.

On the brink of receiving his commitment mark from Dr. Tanaka, Tommy has to pass on some devastating news. Will his stern owner be able to handle his own emotions and Tommy’s reactions to the fallout from the news?

Tommy is a sweetly submissive man and in love with his master, Sensei Tanaka. When a dear friend dies and leaves Tommy enough money to be financially independent it shocks him, and sets his world on its axis – petty jealousies from his “friends” and a whole host of emotions he tries to keep in check. Preparing for the funeral and carefully feeling his way through a new phase in his relationship with his Sensei and social group, Tommy struggles to find his balance.

This short story is very different to many other books – it’s a wonderful mixture of M/M, Japanese-American culture and a Dominant/Submissive relationship. Emotions rise and fall like waves – the stark differences between flagrant, campy drag queens and the subtle quietness of the Orient. The author manages to encompass all sides of the world and mesh it together with great skill and care.

While it won’t be everyone’s particular cup of tea I found it highly enjoyable and extremely well crafted. A short enough story to indulge in when you only have a brief amount of time, but with vivid enough characters and so much emotion bursting from the seems it at times felt like a far longer tale. I found myself drowning in the complex situation, and could empathize with Tommy in particular as he felt almost overwhelmed by everything. This is not your average short story and I greatly enjoyed it.

The melting point is where it all comes together…or makes a big mess.

San Amaro Singles, Book 1

Corey Fenwick keeps her bitter past as hidden as the sweet centers inside the handmade chocolates she sells to a growing list of upscale customers. Experience has taught her the only person she can rely on is herself, so her best-friends-with-benefits relationship with Matt is perfect—no strings attached.

After his last girlfriend deemed him “boring”, Matt Ferber watched her ride off on the back of a Harley with a rock musician. Figuring he’s doomed to “let’s just be friends” with the women he cares about, the arrangement with Corey suits him fine too. Until his old friend Dylan Schell rolls into town to hang out while recovering from a surfing injury.

The sexy bad boy makes Corey’s mouth water, and she figures a harmless fling won’t hurt, especially when Dylan suggests she come between him and Matt—in bed.

It’s a win-win-win situation…until somehow there are strings attached. And too late they realize they’re getting all tangled up.

This time the ‘good guy’ may not finish last. As each strives to make their professional dreams come true, the future of their personal relationships is uncertain. Love is blind and for these three it is also self sacrificing.

Corey’s life is filled with chocolate and helping others. She is content in her friends-with-benefits relationship with long time best friend, Matt, and in mentoring a young girl who’s family is dealing with mental illness. Corey’s past struggles in life are her inspiration and her caring personality is shown by her actions. She really gives a lot of herself, but continues to remain guarded in getting too close to anyone for fear of becoming dependent on someone even just a friend. Her stubbornness has made her a stronger person and contributed to a budding, lucrative chocolate business, but it has also harmed her emotionally with that ever present fear of abandonment. When Matt’s other best friend comes to town, Corey’s life takes an unexpected turn and suddenly it’s not so clear if there is such a thing as friend-with-benefits.

Matt is tired of being the ‘good guy’. After his last relationship ended badly neither he nor Corey wanted anything serious. His friend-with-benefits relationship with Corey gives him the best of both worlds – someone to talk to about anything and hot sex. No strings… until now. When Dylan enters the picture, Matt has never been more aware or confused by his growing feelings of jealousy and arousal at the site of Dylan and Corey together. He’s torn between his two best friends and their instant attraction. Matt has no claim on Corey, but he won’t let Dylan’s player ways hurt her. So he steps up and he steps up big, showing a surprised Dylan and Corey that he’s not the ‘good guy’ everyone perceives him to be and sometimes when the mood strikes he can be bad too.

Dylan’s at his lowest point in his career. His passion for surfing and women got left behind, after a traumatizing accident while on a surf tour, Dylan thought some rest and relaxation at his best friend’s house would be just the ticket to healing his bum leg. He just never expected to meet and fall for a girl while there. When Corey enters his world, Dylan begins to question his decisions in life and realizes he may just be missing out on something. He wastes no time in charming Corey while she brings some much needed light to his battling some inner demons. He can’t afford to get too close to Corey though since his visit is only temporary, but each encounter with her only leaves him wanting more of what he can’t have.

I was pleasantly surprised at how this story turned out. It really wasn’t all that predictable and all three main characters really made me care about them. They are all considerate of each other and don’t want to do anything to ruin any of the friendships amongst them. Lots of unexpected personal drama, so there is a fair amount inner monologue where you really get to know the mind and true feelings of each character. The author does a splendid job of making sure to balance three POV’s too.

I found it interesting that as the sexy times and story intensifies so do the descriptions of the characters. It was like they finally noticed each other beyond the sex once emotion got involved. While there is a spanking scene and even some talk of BDSM it never went too far. I believe it was used more for one of the male leads to assert his dominance and I can definitely appreciate a guy who has a need and love of foreplay. And from the sounds of it sex wasn’t the only thing orgasmic in this story – chocolate body paint anyone?

Like Corey or Matt would say this story is “so good”. And believe me they say that a lot especially in the heat of the moment. I am curious to see where this series will take us next and hope there will be catch-up of the characters from this one. This is only my second read from this author and I am already looking forward to the next.

Sexy, Cowboy, Stamos Walker runs a work release program for nonviolent male prisoners. When Joy Courtland shows up on his doorstep, he assumes she’s the nanny. He hands her his son and rushes out to work.

Joy, a convicted felon, bonds with little Dillon immediately. Stamos isn’t happy when he returns and finds out Joy is not the nanny.

While trying to get Joy back to prison through the proper channels, Stamos realizes Joy is not a killer. He doesn’t want her to go back to prison. Stamos is willing to try everything he can to keep Joy safe even if it means marriage.

Joy has a new shot at life, if someone doesn’t ruin it for her first. The opening of Lone Star Joy had me intrigued right away. The heroine, Joy, has just been released from prison on a work release, and I wondered, what she could have done…..

It isn’t easy for her, though. She has a past that promises to catch up to her. Not everyone wants to give her a second chance. Not when they know exactly what they claimed she did. Not when she spent years in prison for a crime that anyone would cringe over. Yet Joy has this kindness about her. She also has this fear and worry. But this woman is one strong character and she’s had to endure a lot if her life, only to keep getting it piled on. I like Joy. She held promise right from the start, and all I wanted was to know her story, and how she got where she did. Thank goodness for men like Stamos, that believes in second chances.

What can I say about Stamos? He’s one heck of a hero. He runs a ranch, has an adorable son, and he believes in people. Though at first glance at her file, he can’t have Joy on the ranch, but a series of events keep her there, and Stamos gets a glimpse of what Joy is really like. That makes him start to wonder… The one thing about Stamos is that he has a caring heart. He’s very willing to help. There was one spot in the book, however that he has a huge character flaw. There was a scene where he acted too much out of character, completely out of nowhere, and there was no rhyme or reason why, especially when he’d been so understanding and kind throughout the rest of the story.

Still, overall the story flowed well. The chemistry between Joy and Stamos was believable and executed well. The conflicts and tension arise, and it only made their want and need even stronger. The suspense element played out well. There were a few secrets and surprises revealed. It’s a great blend of contemporary and suspense. Ms. Ball has done a great job with this book.

If you need a dose of romance, mystery and well created characters, why don’t you have a little Lone Star Joy of you own?

Leather and lace don’t strike sparks. Or do they?

It’s Valentine’s Day, but Macy Rodgers isn’t feeling the love. Aside from a torrid, one-night fling in a backseat a few months back, her love life has been sorely lacking, but fortunately she has devious friends who feel like playing Cupid. Wouldn’t they be shocked to learn that the match they’ve made for her is the same one that steamed up the back of that ’69 GTO…

Seth “Ghost” Warren has just returned to town after an extended absence. Between his grandmother’s failing health, his job as a tattoo artist, his band’s gigs, and a crazy ex who won’t leave him alone, he’s stretched thin. Cautious cowgirl Macy is the last thing he needs thrown into the mix.

She’s all country, he’s all heavy metal—and Macy knows that if anyone can propel her out of her rut, it’s Seth. But when their worlds collide, it’s anyone’s guess if they’ll survive with their hearts intact.

OMG!!! Seth can leave me breathless anytime. This story really lived up to it’s title. I loved everything about this multi-faceted story. Everything was soooo good. Starting with Seth…a truly scrumptious hero who will steal the hearts of readers everywhere. In the middle somewhere was Macy and her down-home country appeal. Then you have all the angst that comes with such an odd couple and their imperfect affair. These fabulous characters and the awesome writing skills of Cherrie Lynn gifted readers with a winning combination of heartbreak and   steamy passionate sex.

At first glance Macy wasn’t too impressed with Seth. His friend, Brian, may have bamboozled her friend, Candace, but Macy considers herself too smart to fall for a heavy metal guy like him . No matter how smokin’ hot he is . No two people could be more different. She’s a country sweetheart. He’s a bad boy tattooed rocker. I mean…who goes for that? Apparently, Macy goes for it. Because the Queen of the Rodeo ends up having a one-night stand with the Death Metal rocker in the back of his vintage 69 GTO. And yeah, that bad-boy rocked her world. The sex was steamy. But the light of day brings embarrassment for Macy who gives her lover the cold shoulder. Seth has a family emergency that sends him running home to Oklahoma.

The story picks up months later with Seth coming back just in time for a Valentine’s Day hook-up with Macy. Once again in the back seat of his car. Man, that sweet ride sure got a lot of action. And I’m not just talking about the car. Things get hot and heavy as soon as they meet back up, giving the readers a lot of sultry sex scenes. But Macy and Seth have a lot of issues to deal with – as a couple as well as individuals. Years ago, Macy had an almost fatal rodeo fall that left her willing to accept a little less in life. To her, less risk means more safety. So she pushes everyone away to save herself the risk of a relationship . She also came off as being a bit of a snob to me. As for Seth…you’d think a man that fine wouldn’t have any issues. But he does. His heart was broken years ago. And thanks to the gal who done him wrong Seth’s insecure and afraid to trust another woman with his heart. They’ll just be friends with benefits. Yeah, that’s what they tell themselves. Instead, they go from a casual hook-up to a full blown, hot and heavy relationship in no time flat . But misunderstandings and jealous exes get in the way. Enough said ….you get the picture: steamy sex + romance = Happy Girl.

Now, to the good part. DAMN!! I loved this book. It’s got lots of fantastic love scenes but there’s a story here too. A really good one. For readers looking for a hot and steamy story that actually says something …Leave Me Breathless is one you son’t want to miss. So grab yourself a copy of Cherrie Lynn’s latest. You will not be disappointed.

The beautiful yet deceitful Rossalyn McDonald had twisted the knife deep in David Adam MacDougall’s big heart. He was extraordinarily handsome: chiseled muscles, kindly soul, thoughtful personality, and totally faithful. Any other lass in his Scottish Highlands village would have cheated her own sister to become his bride.

Now David’s entire being felt broken. He felt into a thousand pieces. Now he only wanted to reach the faraway city of Beiping China where he was called to be a missionary. But before arriving in that mysterious mistress of the orient, he would face uncertain dangers.

The year is 1904. The bloody Boxer Rebellion is only four years past. Much of northern China still seethes with undercurrents of resentment and hatred of all things Western. If David can just make it to the ancient city with body and soul intact, if he can just survive, there he’ll find his new purpose, his new home, and his new people.

There, he’ll meet the woman he comes to believe is the love of his life. The lithe, athletic, saucy, highly intelligent and equally independent Xiu Li!

As a basketball fan, the new novel ‘Sarah Quanli’ seemed promising on so many levels: billed as ‘A Story of Betrayal, Death, Love. And Basketball.” With that in mind, the story set off unexpectedly: from an unanticipated time, and chased by an entirely unpredictable plot. The story line is the absolute best part of ‘Sarah Quanli.’ However, the writing style is frustrating; at times long-winded, at other times, just plain confusing.

Big hearted and broken-hearted, David Adam MacDougall sets off to become a missionary in Beiping, Northern China, in 1904. He leaves behind a full life: both friends and family, and the woman he so loved. His good friends are well established –as are his own religious beliefs, inherent athleticism, and sense of fair play. There are many instances when we see how his inner strength carries him through adversity. Yet, his love for Rossalyn sets him at odds with a cousin, then others. David, miserable, will eventually set off across the sea…It is merely the beginnings of his adventure. Bandits and ruffians await, new friendships and challenges, as does, perhaps, another chance at love. Throughout it all, he clings strongly to his Christian beliefs.

Although I had a preconceived (and completely wrong) idea about what to expect, derived from “basketball’’ in the description, I was not disappointed at all in this very different-than-anticipated story. Mr. Keene’s vision is plainly original and the story itself is unpredictable and engaging. Yet, the writing style or editorial choices often interrupt the tale’s flow.

The quality of the storyline deserved far better than a 3 star rating – but the challenge in reading this brought down the score. Still, for a thoroughly original story, do read ‘Sarah Quanli.’

Lyra is a third grade teacher who has become enmeshed in the lives of the Ochoa’s family who has suffered setbacks when their sons’, her students, were hospitalized and nearly died. Lyra wants to help them keep their restaurant and get a home instead of living in a motel, so she decides to take part in the game at Drakes’ Lair. She knows that the men who go there pretend to be dragons and she’s willing to play along especially if it means she can win enough to help the Ochoa’s.

Dragon Games had this reader enthralled from start to finish, I loved the characters and the easy way they interacted with one another. The supporting characters in the form of the other dragons also helped flesh out the story because you got to see a bit of their personalities and you saw how badly they wanted a mate. Lyra and Tielo were drawn to each other and the heat between them was scorching, which made for sex scenes that had you wishing you had a dragon in your tank. Jory Strong gave a great story, lots of hot sex and even hotter men/dragons.

This is the eight book in the Supernatural Bonds series and although it is part of a series it can read as a standalone. There was mention in the story of Lyra’s sister Summer who is into BDSM and a promise from Lyra that she would introduce the dragon Jubal to her. Their story will be book nine in the series and I will be getting a copy because if its anything like Dragon Games this reader is in for a real treat. I would absolutely recommend this book, it is a great way to indulge your shape shifter fantasies and get a in a good read.

It’s Getting Hot In Here. . . Maura Mahoney expects to spend her thirtieth birthday the way she’s spent so many others. She’ll work at the Cherry Lane retirement community, have a quiet dinner with her parents, and end the evening with a solo hot chocolate before turning in early. Sedate, but safe. Then Jesse Blue turns up at Cherry Lane, ready to do community service to avoid jail time. And suddenly, prim, by-the-books Maura can’t stop thinking about a sexy, motorcycle-riding bad boy who seems wrong for her in almost every way.

But beneath his gruff exterior, Jesse is a man of surprises. He’s filling the once drab community center with color and life. He’s bonding with the residents. And he’s prompting scorching, wild dreams Maura would never be bold enough to act on. Or would she? Because the way Jesse looks at her, Maura could swear that this heated, smoldering attraction runs both ways. . .

Trouble comes in all shapes and sizes. But trouble is definitely NOT welcome at Cherry Lane. A little too late, because Trouble just walked in. There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Jesse Blue, and readers are about to discover the truth beneath his rough exterior.

The line may be cliché, but you’ve heard of it: don’t judge a book by it’s cover. And don’t judge a person by their exterior appearance. It doesn’t help that there’s a record with that gruff look, but still, you can look past that too, right? Maura isn’t too sure of this Jesse character coming into Cherry Lane, but let’s just say that Jesse entering her life changes things for her. Maura is a people pleaser. She’s always had to be. She had to please her guardians, be the perfect child, and now that she’s older that has just kind of stuck. Some think she’s an ice queen. It’s not something Maura is very happy about, which is understandable. She and Jesse are polar opposites, have had different backgrounds, but they have a mutual understanding of each other in some aspects. Their sexual chemistry comes on strong and only gets more intense as the story goes along. Maura doesn’t want to feel the way she does for Jesse, for various reasons. She has a tendency of driving me nuts, but I can relate to Maura on multiple levels. Watching her grow during the book was a pleasure. I love her strength and her ability to accept people as they are, even if it isn’t at first glance.

Where to start with Jesse? He’s a flawed hero, indeed, but isn’t everyone full of imperfections? Jesse has a good heart, through, which is what makes him so lovable. Even though he dis something that in the eyes of others wasn’t right, he stands by his actions with a firmness like you wouldn’t believe. He has this soft side with wanting to help others. The mystery of Jesse was like Christmas presents. You only get a hint here or there, the anticipation drives you wild, but little by little, you get to unwrap the life that is Jesse’s past and present. I love how he changes Maura for the better, teaches her to loosen up a little bit and enjoy life for what it is, instead of making everyone else happy.

The entire story is written with zingy dialogue, lighthearted and witty narrative, and characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. Jesse and Maura are a little outside the box, but I think many people can relate to them and their situations on many occasions. Ms. Fox writes a great story with sizzling tension. I couldn’t keep my eyes away from the pages. One of my favorite stories by this author by far! The setting, the plot, the characters, they all stole my heart. The one downside is that in a few places the story seemed to lag, there wasn’t always a high amount of action, but overall, I couldn’t get enough!

If you like a good heartwarming romance, give Body Heat a shot.
