Rogue dragons are committing crimes. Anti-shifters activists are demanding action. A human vigilante militia has formed.

The good dragons have come up with a plan. Undercover dragon warrior Velka Krytt’s mission is to bring the Rogues to justice. Law enforcement has a different plan. Undercover human cop Aric Exeter’s mission is to bust the Vigilante organization.

When their missions collide, they are forced to go on the run. Hunted by the Rogues and Vigilantes, Velka and Aric must join forces to survive the danger coming at them and fire flaming between them. Things are getting dragonfire hot!

Sometimes what seems so obvious is anything but. Velka is clearly working with the Rogue dragons to try and steal from the rich. Eagle (Aric) had been working with the vigilantes for weeks to try and take down the dragons whether they are Rogues or other. Yet, they find themselves together fighting for their lives and discovering each other’s secret.

The beginning of the story is a bit confusing at first when trying to decipher who and what the vigilantes and rogues are, their purpose and how they play a role in the story. Once I was able to put everything together I understood what an influential role they played in the story and how much the additional conflicts really added to the story.

The love story between Velka and Eagle was exciting. The action in the story really helped to bring them together in a magical way. Even when they do not trust one another they have to depend on each other for survival. This really helps to keep the relationship moving forward as well as create more excitement in the story.

The various twist and turns that the author introduced into this story as well as the characters really created a dynamic story that was truly entertaining.

Danger hides in the darkest of places

Always obey your father. That’s what Katherine’s done her entire life. She studies dead languages and practices knife-throwing. Now Pappa’s listening to a virtual stranger, and she’s convinced the stranger cares more about killing monsters than her own safety. Pappa won’t even tell her what they’re going after. He says it’s because if she knows too much, then she’s tainted by that knowledge and it will spoil the hunt.

Can she trust Pappa’s judgment or leave her future in the hands of the stranger? With only her wits to protect her, she joins them in the most terrifying night of the year.

It’s only after the bruises fade and you’re well enough to try again that your true self emerges.

Katherine worried me from the opening paragraph. The reader knows that something has just happened to her that caused her injuries but we don’t know who or what caused them. In a few clicks of the keyboard Katherine is portrayed as a sweet (if possibly terribly naive) teenage girl who believes her father can do no wrong and yet every time I thought I had her figured out a new facet of her personality or circumstances blew my previous theory out of the running.

Ms. Marie packed a novel’s worth of characterization and plot development into fifteen short pages and for the first fourteen of them it worked beautifully. While we’re given more than enough information to figure out what is happening the last scene felt rushed. I would have liked to see a little more time spent exploring the repercussions of what happened that night. Is Katherine as comfortable with her father’s choices as the reader is first lead to assume? Hopefully these characters will be revisited in a sequel one day as there is so much we still don’t know about this world.

In the meantime let La Dame à La Licorne take you on a late night journey you won’t soon forget. Do yourself a favor and do not seek out any spoilers for this tale beforehand. The twists and turns in it will be far more rewarding if you don’t know what to expect!

Young and alone against the living dead.

Riley has lived alone with her dad in an isolated cabin in New York State for as long as she can remember. It’s just safer. Her dad’s told her about the time before the zombies, but she can only imagine it. Instead of playing with friends, Riley became a crack shot with a rifle. And she’ll need that skill now that her dad’s been bitten. She’ll be forced to leave the cabin and fight off zombies all on her own. She’s twelve years old. There’s a lot she’ll have to learn about the world she’s never really been part of. She already knows how to kill zombies. But now she’ll learn just how dangerous the living can be too.

How does a twelve-year-old survive on her own in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested world?

Few things are more frightening than a child fending for his or herself. To be honest I winced more than once as the author brings Riley through a series of terrible events. As much as I enjoy this genre experiencing zombie attacks and unexpected meet-ups with other living people through the eyes of someone so young and vulnerable brought fresh horror to scenes that are rehashed in almost every zombie-pocalypse.

Riley runs into multiple men who want to rape her. Readers who have personal experience with this type of assault should be aware that while these scenes serve important roles in the plot they are eerily realistic. It’s unsettling to think that adults would not only be attracted to a petite, young girl but would act on that urge in such a violent manner. Is this a realistic assumption about human nature in a post-apocalyptic society? Maybe. The vast majority of the people I’ve known – men and women alike – would find that reaction to stumbling across a terrified girl completely unthinkable, though, and even though Riley also meets good people I would have liked to see more examples of the latter. Miscreants will always be outnumbered by the majority of us who’d never harm anyone.

Luckily the plot twist revealed later in this book made it well worth reading. While I figured out what it was fairly early on it was fun to see Riley piece together the clues.I only wish more time could have been spent on the logistics of how certain events came to take place and what happens to Riley and her family in the future. Hopefully Mr. Bernstein will write a sequel one day as I’d be interested in learning more about these fascinating characters.

Amongst the Dead fuses classic undead tropes with a few curve balls. It’s the perfect story for anyone who has ever watched a zombie movie and wished he or she could know what happens to the characters after the credits roll.

Fat Stuff maybe the worst criminal in town, but he isn’t the smartest. When he sets out to con the wives of the richest ranchers around, Fat Stuff finds himself in a terrible mess at the hands of the women.

In this Old West retelling of Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor, Fat Stuff and his gang of outlaws are always causing trouble. Most recently, they broke into Justice Short’s warehouse, killed his cow, and beat his men. Somehow the men always get away with their misdeeds.

Then Fat Stuff comes up with his most conniving plan yet—to make the wives of the richest ranchers in the area think he’s in love with them. When one of the wives asks him to her ranch, Fat stuff thinks he’s got it made, but he is in for a big surprise.

The women have a plan of their own which puts Fat Stuff right where he belongs.

Fat Stuff deserves what he gets. He’s a thief and conman and has bamboozled the men of the town, but then he decides to take on the woman. Bad move…

Mr. Conley writes an amusing story that kept me reading. This is short and sweet and has a nice ironic ending. I like those. The story has also stuck with me; it’s not one you will forget right after reading it.

Fat Stuff is brazen in his actions and even admits his guilt, but no one is willing to testify against him and everyone denies seeing anything. His men are as bad as he is and they enjoy flaunting the law. Fat Stuff’s problem is that what he’s already stolen and the damage he’s done isn’t enough for him. Now he’s going to spark the two biggest ranch owner’s wives and get himself a pretty woman and a ranch of his own. At least that’s his intent.

Here’s where things get more interesting. Women being women, they talk about the letters Fat Stuff sent them. He’s not real smart and both letters say the same thing. So the women decide to get even.

This story is a cute western. The women develop a plan, Fat Stuff knows they’re just drooling over him and his offer, and when the men get the scent of what’s going on, they ride in with weapons drawn! It’s amusing, entertaining, and all the men in story have some learnin’ to do.

Mr. Conley had to write this story tongue-in-cheek. He’s done a good job with it and I really enjoyed reading it. Why not read the story and find out what Fat Stuff’s special surprise was? I even almost (just almost) felt sorry for him, but I was too busy laughing.

When the blood moon coincides with Halloween, the forces of darkness unite to wreak their evil spells. Will this All Hallows Eve bring joy or sorrow? Curses abound and destiny calls, as a vampire watches over his human. Devils atone to the moon, and shifters hunt their mate on land protected by a powerful white witch. An angel takes human shape to protect the gypsy girl he loves, and a black widow hunts her prey in human form.

In these five chilling and sexy tales, is love enough to break the cycle? Or is all lost under the orange glow of the menacing sphere in the sky?

The Eclipse of the Blood Moon is an anthology with five different paranormal stories.

Destined Lovers
by Doris O’Connor was a nice story with characters that I quickly came to like, for as just as Suzzanna felt entirely human, Drake had that otherworldly characteristic that made him exquisite. However, I found the ending of this short to be a bit confusing.

Atone for the Moon by Raven McAllan had some spanking but it was not sizzling hot in the sex department. It was definitely a fun story that had me laughing at some points but I believe it could have been much more enjoyable had it been longer.

Property Lines
by Cherie Nicholls was my favorite of the five stories in The Eclipse of the Blood Moon anthology. The chemistry between Adam and Celeste is present from beginning to end making it impossible to drop the story. Ms. Nicholls write a short, very hot story that feels complete (even if I would have loved to learn more about the characters).

Gypsy Butterfly by Michaela Rhua was different. Though the interaction between the characters felt a bit forced, the plot idea was interesting and different.

The Black Widow by Arya Grey was not your usual vamp story. With a very original idea and very vivid descriptions, I really would have liked to read more on this one, especially since the ending felt a bit rushed to my taste.

The Eclipse of the Blood Moon was, in conclusion, a good and entertaining read with stories suited for all those that like things that go bump in the night.

The best day of Dobbs’ life was when he was rescued from his kidnappers by an elite team of soldiers. A year later, Dobbs’ life should be getting back to normal, shouldn’t it? Despite his best efforts, Dobbs is discovering that back to normal is a relative thing. Then he runs into a man at a party who seems to be eager to help him define his new normal. Can something good come out of his harrowing experience?

It’s been over a year since Dobbs was rescued from a living nightmare, and still he can’t quite let go of the past. Despite the fact his friends don’t seem to understand why he isn’t “better” or “normal”, Dobbs has decided to accept the fact this might be as good as he gets, he might never feel safe again. Then at a friend’s party he meets Bruce McCarn – the soldier responsible for his rescue. The passion they’d both kept under wraps explodes and finally Dobbs realizes that in his lover’s hands he can feel safe.

I really enjoyed this short story. Dobbs is a slightly broken but still incredibly masculine character, and I really enjoyed how even Bruce could be both strongly male but still have a small amount of vulnerability hiding beneath his soldier’s persona. The chemistry and passion is believable, and even though the sex was brief the build up was fantastic. This is a very short story – only the one main scene really, but it’s a delicious taste of the author’s writing style and I’d definitely read other stories. Highly Recommended.

Bright Star by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Immortal Dylan McCay has vowed to protect the secret origins of his species at all costs—until he meets Savannah, a passionate astronomer on the brink of discovering the elusive Christmas Star….

Three stories guaranteed to warm up the holidays!!

Each author writes with a smooth flair that kept me in my seat. I couldn’t put the books down because I had to know what would happen. Although the three stories aren’t connected, I had no problems losing myself in their worlds and zipping through this anthology in a couple of hours.

Halfway to Dawn poses the human-vampire conflict trope, but it’s written in a fresh way. Fiona and Kane might be on the opposite sides of the war, but I couldn’t help but want them to get together. I could understand where both were coming from. Kane wants to be his own man–no longer under the rule of the vampires. Fiona wants the war to be over. Hey, who can argue? And when they come together for the holiday and spicy hot scenes, it’s totally worth it.

In The Gift, the locket’s the thing. Okay, so Cullen’s soul is stuck in a locket. To get free, the woman who owns said locket must choose him as her true love. Sounds easy, but it’s not. He’s on his fifth go-round. I felt for Cullen. The guy wants a break and if it means being Angelica’s, then so be it. The note from Angelica’s mother was a tad strange, but then, I suppose if someone told me there was a strange man attached to a locket, I might fear him, too. But I liked the story and I loved how Ms Meyers wove in the Christmas spirit. Definitely a keeper.

Bright Star was my favorite. I love the work of Ms Thomas-Sundstrom and this story didn’t disappoint. Savannah wants the man of her dreams for Christmas. She also happens to be looking for the elusive Christmas star. Finding both would be beyond her wildest dreams, but why not be wild? Dylan doesn’t want her to find the star. If she finds it, she’ll open up a whole new can of worms. I love how these two come together and how Dylan struggles with his mission over his feelings. It’s a white hot read that you won’t want to miss.

If you’re looking for a paranormal twist on the holidays, then this might be the book for you!

Name: Big John Wallace Rank: Staff Sergeant, Chief Mechanic and Gunner Mission: To serve and protect his crew and country.

Name: Connie Davis Rank: Sergeant, Flight Engineer, Mechanical Wizard Mission: To be the best…and survive.

Two Crack Mechanics, One Impossible Mission

Being in The Night Stalkers is Connie Davis’s way of facing her demons head-on, but mountain-strong John Wallace is a threat on all fronts. Their passion is explosive, but their conflicts are insurmountable. When duty calls them to a mission no one else could survive, they’ll fly into the night together—ready or not.

Heart-in-throat, adrenaline-pumping action immediately pulls the reader into a lethal situation in the dark of night—the night stalkers’ world.

Whether it is the Hindu Kush Mountains in Afghanistan, the Ukraine, the white cold of Sweden or just the training grounds of Nevada to test new equipment in the Black Hawk, the reader is swept into a hi-tech military world that boggles the mind and sends the heart racing; then comes the exquisite love story that is woven into Wait Until Dark. It puts the emotions into a veritable tail spin. The many levels of love that reach to the depth of the soul and bring tears, smiles, laughter, and deep-down satisfaction make this story memorable.

Sergeant Connie Davis, mechanic and gunner on the Black Hawk Vengeance, knows what she bargained for when she drove herself to the limit to become a member of SOAR (a night stalker). She is ever aware that death can be a nanosecond away, but doing her part to complete a mission drives away her demons and gives her life purpose. Alone in the world and always an outsider, she finds herself in unfamiliar territory with Staff Sergeant John Wallace, chief mechanic and gunner on the Vengeance.

Connie is a complex character that the reader comes to know bit by piece as she does her job with a speed and efficiency that her superiors have never seen before. Professionally she is confident but in personal life, she flounders, always guarding against getting emotionally hurt. She already has all the hurt she can bear.

Getting to know the true Connie is like peeling an onion a layer at the time. She is truly a work in progress that allows the reader to see her mesmerizing metamorphosis. When she switches her remarkable ability to concentrate from work to lovemaking—WOW! And when her own unassuming self wins the hearts of the Wallace family, one feels like celebrating to know she is loved for the person she is—flaws and all. Her relationship with Grumps, John’s grandfather, is eloquent in its own rusty-tractor-repairing way. Their connection with and acceptance of each other is something special that the reader is privileged to vicariously share.

Big John Wallace and Connie work together with professional ease and trust. She is quiet and calm and in sync with him as they keep the Black Hawk ready and fit for the demands made on it. He is easy-going, humorous, likeable, steady, a good friend, loyal and has the ability to help Connie feel safe like she has not felt since she was thirteen years old. His connection with people is something that she has never had. His family adores him as he does them. But all their love has never wiped away his feeling of not belonging. Yet he admits he does what he does to try to make their world a safe place. How he and Connie complete each other and how unconditional family love slips in and gives redemption to both of them makes spellbinding reading.

M L. Buchman’s ability to keep the reader right in the middle of the action is amazing. The detailed descriptions about missions, the feel of the Black Hawk as it takes enemy fire, the hair-raising scraps through mountain passes, the in sync actions of the Vengeance crew with each other and the trust they have in each other, along with their faith in Viper their partner helicopter captivates. The reader’s senses and emotions are bombarded with what is happening sometimes in a subtle way and at other time in a full-out assault.

If you have read other “night stalkers’ books, you will recognize some of the secondary characters that loom big as life in their part in Wait Until Dark. Major Emily Beale and Mark “The Viper” Henderson are still a high voltage couple full of humor, love, and abilities that astonish. There are even some VIP characters in the story that add a touch of mystery and intrigue as well as a bit of humor.

Exquisitely written, sensory-loaded, and soul-satisfying  Wait Until Dark is a phenomenal vicarious adventure for the reader that is full of secret military missions, farm life, family love, and best of all that precious soul mate kind of love that Big John and Connie have. It keeps the emotions and senses on full alert from first to last pages. Super good reading!

Ten years ago David Worral had plans to go to college and the potential for a beautiful future in front of him. One tragic accident later, he fled to California and reinvented himself as Dex, top porn model of Johnnies.

Dex’s life is a tangled mess now, but the guys he works with only see the man who makes them believe even porn stars can lead normal lives. When Kane, one of Dex’s coworkers, gets kicked out of his house, the least Dex can do is give him a place to stay. Kane may be a hyperactive muscle-bound psycho, but he’s also a really nice guy. What could be the harm?

Except nothing is simple—not sex, not love, and not the goofy kid with the big dick and bigger heart who moves his life into Dex’s guest room. When they start negotiating fractured pasts and broken friends, Dex wonders if Kane’s honest nature can untangle the sadness that stalled his once-promising future. With Kane by his side, Dex just might be able to reclaim the boy he once was—and if he can do that, he can give Kane the home and the family he deserves.

Who doesn’t love a snake with a ball fetish? Dex may not like or appreciate his roommate’s pet snake, especially the snake’s penchant for crawling into their bed and snuggling Dex’s balls, but Kane is too good to pass up. Dex and Kane both work at a gay for pay porn company, Johnnies. When Kane needed a place to stay, Dex happily took him in as a roommate and friend with benefits. However the line between friend and lover gets blurrier by the day and Dex is afraid his heart is going to get hurt yet again.

Dex in Blue is the second book in the Johnnie’s universe from Amy Lane. The first third of the book rushes to show how Dex and Kane came to be in the porn world while simultaneously showing the events of the first book from another perspective. You don’t need to have read the first book to understand this one, though it does add more depth and comprehension for a reader to see the same events from multiple character points of view. After the timeline and sequence of events is established, the book gets into showing Kane and Dex falling in love, then finally facing several challenges such as family disputes and friends in crisis.

The plot is an ambitious one, trying to catch readers’ up while giving a familiar but new set of circumstances. It doesn’t always work to the story’s benefit unfortunately. Here I found Tommy’s portrayal to be more bitter and angry than I remember him being from the previous book. I also found Dex’s near perfection at the start to be frustrating. Both Dex and Kane come more to life when the book focuses on them and their relationship, showing much more dimension than at the beginning of the book. The challenges that come towards the couple feel very similar to the same ones that Tommy and Chase experienced in their book and it takes a while for Dex and Kane to face something uniquely theirs.

The writing though is very good and clean with numerous sex scenes that actually fit the flow of the book. Dex and Kane have a very easy relationship, they sort of fall into one together without questioning it too much. Kane is often described as simple or not too smart so unfortunately I never got the feeling that these two are madly in love so much as need each other to function. Dex’s loneliness and Kane’s desire to be seen as smart seem to drive their relationship more than a fundamental love match but I liked them together. The addition of the reptiles is a very cute detail that brought a lot of humor to the story. This is one that fans of the series will want to continue with.

Transitions takes us on a journey through time. In modern day Birmingham , a group of university students become embroiled in a love story almost 2,000 years old as the ghost of Gaius Lucius, a Roman officer tries to reclaim his lost love.

What can Helen, a driven and ambitious student with high hopes for the future, do to solve this ancient riddle? And why is Brandon making late night visits to her house with tokens of love?

What happens when a desperate Roman soldier from ancient times has only one shot at his goal, and that means arriving in modern-day England to make things happen?

Gaius Lucius is a hard working, sincere, Roman who is losing his beloved wife. He tries everything to save her, but she’s sick, dying. His last option is so unconventional that he’d normally laugh it off as a joke. However, there are no other options. Gotta give the guy points for fighting to the end for love.

He shows up on a college campus in a non-corporeal form to disturb the lives of some students.

This story flips back and forth between his tale in the past, and that of the present college students. Their perception of the occurrences is frightening.

Brandon is a loner, Helen is ambitious yet not confident in her physical appearance, and her friend Tina is easygoing and likeable. At first, Helen does something to make her unlikeable. She accidentally hurts Brandon but is then in too much of a hurry to assist him as he’s lying on the ground bleeding. Brandon may be a loner, but he has things to recommend him. Then strange things happen to him, mainly, the Roman starts to take over his life. Things get really weird for him. For an odd reason, he likes Helen, the woman who knocked him over then ran off. He can’t stop thinking about her. Next, Helen keeps thinking about him. A possible romance is in the offing.

Helen, Brandon, and their friends, as well as the Roman are realistically drawn. The style and language of the story are presented well. The mystery in the plot keeps things going. One doesn’t know what to expect. This is a unique story of one love found and another lost.
