Sometimes it takes the power of the gods to reveal the woman within…

A modern-day transsexual woman and an ancient god of desire is an unusual pairing, but the power of Aphrodite works in the most mysterious ways.

Gina Deveraux is forced to confront her painful past when she attends a high school reunion. Born with male genitalia, she spent her childhood and teen years living as a boy, and has only now returned in an effort to put the past behind her, so she can begin to live her life without the continuing fear of loneliness and rejection.

Himeros is one of the erotes, an aspect of Eros, and as such it is his duty to answer the call of sexual desire whenever a human needs him. But he has been living among mortals too long and his interest has waned. When he decides to accept one last call he finds a woman who is unique. A woman who encapsulates the whole human experience in her body, and her soul.

Has he finally found the one with whom even a god of desire could find fulfilment? Forever, after all, is such a long time to be alone.

Self discovery can be difficult at best, especially when you discover you are not who you thought you had to be.

I cannot pretend to imagine what Gina went through growing up knowing she was not the same person on the outside as on the inside. Gina’s history is what attracted me to this story to begin with. She had a lot to cope with in life and I was just happy that this story shed some light on what some may go through.

Himeros on the other hand has enough self confidence to fill a country. As a sex god I would think he is sitting on top of the world, but instead he’s longing for more. I could understand why he felt this way since while he may have a physical connection, he never achieves the emotional connection truly needed in life whether it be a mortal or immortal existence. One thing I absolutely adored about Himeros’ personality is that he’s able to accept Gina immediately including the woman trapped inside of all of the doubt and fear.

Absolutely anyone who enjoys a story of self discovery and larger than life personalities would love this story. Yes, it is an erotic novel with plenty of sex, but it is so much more than that. I was amazed at how much I truly enjoyed the story from start to finish. I know of many people who would enjoy reading this story, and I plan on recommending it to each and every one of them.

Sometimes a good girl just needs a little naughty.

Boys of Beachville, Book 1

Public relations specialist Allison Cooper is more than ready to handle a career make-or-break assignment: to develop and market a charity calendar featuring hot men. Her only problem is Mr. July, a sexy cop who happens to be her ex-lover.

Trying to keep his image squeaky clean—a must for her promotion—raises all sorts of challenges, especially when this bad boy is throwing a little kink into her plan.

Image is the last thing on Carter James’s mind. He agreed to be Mr. July on one condition—that during his promo month, Allison never leaves his side. He wants her back, and to make that happen he needs her undivided attention to teach him good from bad. Unless bad is what the lady wants…

Carter James is very good at being bad. His mischievous nature is frustrating, but impossible to resist especially since this bad boy is a cop. However, in the last four months the twinkle in his eye has dimmed since Allison Cooper became the girl who got away. When a charity assignment puts her back in his sights, Carter is prepared to play a little dirty in order to remind her of just how good they were together. But to keep her he’ll have to prove that he’s a reformed bad boy.

Allison Cooper couldn’t be happier with how her career is going. She’s finally getting the recognition and promotion she deserves. However, Ally’s first major project will not only test her potential, but also her patience when facing her ex and his penchant for trouble. Upon hearing his familiar nickname for her, “Ally Cat” knows Carter is up to no good. Her resolve to be by-the-book and keep his image clean for the sake of her job will be sorely tested. It’s Carter’s compromise complete with conditions that has Ally on high alert of falling for the dangerously sexy cop, but is the risk to her heart worth the reward of his good behavior?

Initially I was a little confused as to the reasoning behind Ally dumping Carter. When the truth finally came out, I couldn’t completely relate to the reasoning, and surprisingly Ally seemed to be unaware of the extent of the reasoning herself. She figures it out “epiphany style” while Carter’s hard at work trying to redeem their relationship.

Carter is an “instinctual” character and more often than not will throw the book out if it means doing the right thing. Ally on the other hand is the opposite of that and prefers the strictness of rules, which is why she can’t understand Carter’s nature to throw himself in dangerous or risky situations even if it’s part of his job. Although she’s well acquainted with his profession through familial ties, it isn’t until she witnesses a defining moment where Carter the man and Carter the cop become one that she begins to understand. I very much enjoyed Carter’s display of protective and possessive instincts where Ally’s concerned and especially when it comes to intimacy between the two. Carter’s last “condition” for Ally is well said and significant to the past, present, and future development of their relationship.

The storyline is very relationship driven with characters reconnecting on an emotional and physical level. The beach/bedroom scenes are definitely scorching with just a touch of the BDSM element that includes handcuffs. With a pacing that makes for easy and fast reading featuring a bad boy with a heart of gold, I will definitely be making a return visit to read the next Boys of Beachville story. Erotic romance addicts should check out this series!

With fourth grade finally winding down, 10-year-old Nathan Rockledge is looking forward to a fun and relaxing summer at home with his friends. That is, until his mom decides he has to go to overnight camp with his annoying older sister. When his best friend Tommy decides to tag along, Nathan thinks maybe his summer won’t actually be so bad. After all, he does get to be away from his mom’s awful cooking for an entire six weeks.

Amongst Color War competitions, a flaky counselor, and a bully named “No-Neck,” Nathan turns to his trusty sketchpad, transforming himself into Nate Rocks: 10-year-old extraordinaire. His speedboat ready for action, Nate saves the day time and again from the perils of floods, snakes, ghosts, and even the most wanted criminals.

Join Nathan, Tommy, Abby, and a whole new cast of characters as Nate Rocks once again proves nothing can hold him back in this second book of the Nate Rocks series.

There isn’t much that Nathan Rockledge, aka Nate Rocks, can’t do, as long as it’s on paper or in his imagination. Actually, Nathan is a pretty resourceful young man. Things may not always work out quite as spectacularly as they do in his daydreams but in a pinch Nate really does rock! But can he handle summer camp, No-Neck and worst of all, his older sister, Abby?

In the sequel to Nate Rocks the World, Nathan is taking on a new adventure that is both exciting and pretty darn scary for someone who isn’t particularly fond of being stuck in the woods or being forced to compete against his annoying sister. But from reading book one I knew that Nathan wasn’t a quitter and having his best friend, Tommy, along was going to make this whole ordeal a whole lot of fun to watch. Ms. Toz did not disappoint. I did kinda miss the verbal sparing Nathan had with Lisa from book one but there are plenty of new characters introduced at Camp Spring Ridge to fill in the void.

Readers who enjoy the narrative style of Judy Blume will appreciate the youthful voice that comes through in the dialogue. There aren’t just a whole lot of really good books out for middle grade boys that are written where they can relate to the worries and angst of 8 or 10 year old younger siblings. Something else I think young readers will appreciate is the descriptive details interwoven throughout the story. I had no trouble picturing the camp, the games or the final adventure.

Speaking of the final adventure, I couldn’t have asked for a better ending. Ms. Toz weaves in a “moral to the story” sequence of events that will make parents happy to let their kids read these books.

Nate Rocks the Boat is charming with quite a few laugh-out-loud moments, particularly when Nate drifts off into a daydream and wakes up to a mess. While fans of the Wimpy Kid and Dork Diary series will notice similarities in the character setup, Ms. Toz has penned a unique and clever tale that is sure to entertain young readers as well as the adults who like to follow what their kids read.

In the fourth and final novel of the Sirenne Saga, Sirenne learns that he has been selected to lead the Abbey to the Greyman, who is thought to be the Devil on Earth. Sirenne has mastered electromagnetic flight and the ability to manifest objects and manipulate matter. Weissmuller has revealed himself and an uneasy alliance has been made. The world is falling apart and people are dying by the millions as Sirenne continues trying to understand what is really going on. The unstoppable Greyman is drawing near and an ultimate confrontation seems inevitable. Everything rests on Sirenne’s final decision.

Paul is on the verge of solving the greatest mystery of all; the mystery of life.

The fourth and final book in the Sirenne Saga picks up exactly where the third book left off, so anyone wanting to read this book must read the previous three. The world is literally falling apart at the seams. Paul and Weissmuller have two tasks. First, they must find and protect the Other, a being the Abbey believes can destroy the Greyman. Second, they must then help the Other destroy the Greyman before all of humanity is lost.

I absolutely flew through the first half of the book. Everything was so chaotic and I had a myriad of questions racing through my mind. What, or rather who, is the Other? Was the Greyman really the force of evil the Abbey believed him to be? Would Paul and Weissmuller succeed before time ran out? What would happen if they did succeed? All my questions were answered, but most not in the way I expected.

Paul has been steadily changing and growing throughout the series. I think most of those changes were good and Paul retained many of the traits that made him so endearing in the first book. However, when the saga reached its conclusion, Paul was definitely not the same man and I found some of those changes to be deeply unsettling, particularly the way he comes to regard “weaker” lives. I cannot say too much about the nature of the changes that Paul undergoes without completely spoiling the mystery. I will say that it says a lot about Paul and his state of mind when Weissmuller is actually shocked by some of Paul’s actions. I understand the logic behind why Paul had to go through these changes, but I can’t help but mourn the loss of the character I’d gotten to know in the previous books.

Weissmuller also went through some interesting changes as the story progressed. When Paul first decided to bring Weissmuller along with him for the final part of his quest, I thought it was a huge mistake. After all, Weissmuller was a monster who had committed unthinkable atrocities. However, I was very surprised to see that Weissmuller had truly dedicated himself to helping Paul track down and confront the Greyman. His loyalty is unswerving. I didn’t think Weissmuller was capable of such a thing. Even more interesting was the confrontation between Paul, Weissmuller, and the Greyman. It is then they learn the reason why Weissmuller is the way he is. The answer is truly terrifying.

As I had hoped, O’Flanahan made an appearance in this book, but not at all in the way that I expected. I was completely unprepared for the revelations concerning O’Flanahan, though by now I should probably come to expect the unexpected from Mr. Chatelain’s writing. Everything I learned about O’Flanahan was definitely interesting, but again, I found myself sighing when I realized there was so much I didn’t know about him.

The second half of the book moves at a much slower pace than the first half. The big climax concerning the end of the world happens when there are still quite a lot of pages left in the story. When I realized this, I wondered how much more could there be? It turns out there was a lot more. After Paul meets the Greyman, he and Raymonde, Paul’s soul mate, embark on a new quest in order to discover the secret of life, creation and what it all means. Much is made about human beings and their ability to make choices. However, I have to say that there were many instances where people were pushed and prodded so much that they didn’t really seem to have much of a choice at all concerning the path they were practically forced to take. Despite this issue, I did find Mr. Chatelain’s complex theories to be very thought provoking.

The Greyman took me to some fascinating and unexpected places. The true mystery of the caves extended far beyond the scope of any murder, war, or conspiracy theory. When I started reading the Sirenne Saga, I never could have imagined how it all would end. The journey was interesting and I’m tempted to go back and read the other books with a new perspective. Fans of the Sirenne Saga certainly won’t want to miss the grand finale.

My name is Jacqueline Farrell and I live in the north west of England with my husband, two sons, two cats and one dog. I’m a teacher of French and English and I have just had my first paranormal e-book published with Lyrical Press, Sophronia and the Vampire. It’s the story of a crone – a witch in the last of the three stages in a woman’s life – who is enjoying a nostalgic trip along the west coast of America when she finds herself stuck in a small town, trying to help a young witch avoid becoming the possession of a two thousand year old vampire. I wrote this as an antidote to feeling sorry for myself as my fiftieth birthday was looming and also because it struck me that at 50 I don’t really identify with twenty-somethings anymore, as much as I love Buffy and Sookie Stackhouse. I also wanted a vampire who enjoyed his immortality and wasn’t racked with guilt about past choices he had made.

Writing the book was easy because I was really only writing for myself to begin with and I found it very enjoyable having a myth foundation to base myself on, but at the same time be able to create any new lore that I wanted. I’ve always been interested in the triple goddess theory of Maid, Mother, Crone and now I’ve reached the third stage myself it seemed only natural to focus on the crone. Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg, in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels, are two shining examples of this tradition, but I wanted Sophronia to be younger and, I like to think, a bit more glamorous. I’m also more interested in supernatural abilities like the people in Julian May’s Pliocene novels possess, rather than messing about with frogs and spells and cauldrons, so I gave Sophronia coercion and telepathy, since I’ve always thought it would be great to have those skills myself! I was also fascinated by the idea of a creature that had been alive for thousands of years and had a lot of fun thinking about what that might be like.

Previous to Sophronia and the Vampire I have had two historical romances published with Robert Hale under the name Jacqueline Webb, The Scarlet Queen and Dragonsheart, which I am in the process of self-publishing with Amazon. Also under this name I have co-written a Jane Austen ‘sequel’ with Amanda Grange published by Sourcebooks Pride and Pyramids—Mr. Darcy in Egypt, so life is quite busy at the moment. Being a bit of a luddite and still at the learning stage at e-publishing I don’t have a website/blog or anything else that I notice lots of people do nowadays, although I am girding my loins up to try to rectify the situation; however my email address, if anyone is interested, is jacqueline.farrell50@gmail.com

Five years ago, budding photographer Jessamyn Daniels lost a plum fashion assignment that would have put her on the map, to her then boyfriend well known photographer Dillon Grant. Feeling betrayed, she ended the relationship and for the next five years managed to avoid him while she rose in the ranks of the industry.

Dillon Grant never got over the love of his life, Jess. When the opportunity comes along to work beside her on a shoot, he calls in every last favor owed him to ensure it happens.

Though the situation on the day of the shoot is awkward at first, Jessamyn soon realizes she’s never lost her desire for the talented artist, while he will do anything to bring them back together as they once were.

Jessamyn Daniels and Dillion Grant are photographers who are also in love with one another. Their love was shattered when Dillion got the Baxter Cosmetics million dollar photography campaign which Jess also wanted. Dillion tried to explain to her that he did not steal the contract from her but Jessamyn did not want to hear it, as far as she was concerned he had betrayed her.
Five years later Jessamyn and Dillion are paired together to work on a campaign for Trend Magazine. Jess  still feels betrayed by him. Dillion, on the other hand, is looking forward to working with Jessamyn because he still loves her. The voice of reason comes in the form of Jessamyn’s best friend and model, Kate Fullerton who basically tells her to get over herself.

Jess and Dillion were two very likeable characters, however, I could not quite understand the feeling of betrayal she felt towards him. Then to not have contact for over five years and still feel betrayed was hard for this reader to comprehend. The character of Kate was fun because she said what she felt and didn’t pull any punches with Jess when she told her that the problem was her and not Dillon.

Focused Desire is a good story and Paige Bennett is an excellent writer, however, the ending did seem a little rushed. I would have liked to know a little more about the characters, but overall it was a pleasant way to spend an hour.

If Journeys Through the Unknown taught me one thing it is this: be cautious. Not everyone you meet is necessarily whom they appear to be at first glance.

In Gnome Genome an act of kindness leads Meghan into a world she never knew existed. The plot quickly thickens as she attempts to outsmart her gnome competitors so she can go home again. The challenges were creative and well thought out. The ending was predictable but still left me satisfied.

Sometimes it’s hard to know how to strike a balance between being proud of who you are and fitting in with a society that may not understand. A Weird Twist of Fate explores this tension as Judith discovers an old family secret. Judith’s character was quite intriguing but some continuity and logical errors distracted me from what was happening to her.

The Secret Oracle of an Egyptian King starts out with a jolt of adrenaline that foreshadows later events beautifully. The mystery Danny and Vaughn wrestle with has a fairly simple premise but it is well executed and snaps into place just as the narrative begins to require an additional conflict in order to keep the reader interested.

Could you resist instant wealth? How do you know whom to trust? When Dale discovers something too good to be true in Cold Territory he must decide whether to heed the warning of someone he’s just met. This was by far the strongest tale in the collection. It’s one of those rare stories that is equally enjoyable for adult and young adult readers.

After Clayton gorges on candy he mysteriously ends up in a world made of sugar. Kingdom of Sugar had a unique premise but the conversations between Clayton and his mother about not eating so much sugar felt forced. It would have been more compelling to start with Clayton’s discovery of this new world as the cute yet scary creatures he meets in it can easily stand on their own.

When it’s all said and done Journeys Through the Unknown is a solid collection of genuinely creepy tales that triggered as many questions for me as they answered.

On the run from her abusive husband Catherine has learned not to trust anyone—especially no one in the BDSM lifestyle. But will she be able to resist a powerful dom like Jon?

Catherine has been on the run from her abusive husband and former dom for years. Unable to trust anyone, she has also left the BDSM lifestyle. Or so she thought, until a strange but powerful voice told her to get naked and kneel right there, in the middle of her office, after hours. Will she give in to her sweet urges and submit to a strange dom if only for one night? Can she trust her own instincts, which had let her into a disastrous marriage?

Jon has been a dom for years, but recently he has become bored with the lifestyle—until he sees Catherine kneeling in her office stark naked and in a beautifully submissive position. Jon knows he has to have her. Can he convince the gorgeous submissive to trust him? And will he be able to keep her safe from the demons in her past?

Note to all Doms: Be careful of where you practice your big bad “Dom” voice, you never know who is listening to you.

That’s how this story starts. A colleague of Catherine’s is in his office, practicing his voice commands for a girlfriend who needs a strong hand in the bedroom. Something about the voice triggers Catherine’s former inner sub and she can’t help but follow the commands. And what is a person to do when you accidentally master your boss? Well, you call your mentor of course!

And here comes Jon to save the day. Kind of. The moment Jon lays eyes on the beautiful sub kneeling naked in her office, he’s hooked. Instant attraction and respect blooms within Jon because of Catherine’s discipline as a submissive. Deciding he had to have her, she agrees to play out a scene with him. By the end, Jon realizes one brief moment is not enough with her and she has revived his outlook on the lifestyle.

Although she’s out of the lifestyle, there is something about this mysterious Dom that has Catherine all a flutter and she decides to give in to her own needs. Over the course of their first evening together you find out that Catherine is on the run from her former Dom who happens to be her abusive husband. But Jon shows her how a true, caring D/s relationship is supposed to be and she can’t help but thrive in the gentle hands of this new man.

This is a short, sweet and very sexy story. I know you’re thinking, how can it be sweet and sexy? Well it’s true! Mina Dorian wrote a lovely story about healing and love through the outlet of a BDSM lifestyle. Both characters are equally strong in their own way, Catherine because of her jerk of an ex, and Jon is very confident with himself. I do wish we had learned more about Jon and how he got to the point of being bored with the lifestyle. The story was very fast paced making this a quick read, but I felt there needed to be a little something extra. Maybe a little more insight into the couples building feelings and relationship.

But the sexiness smoldered the pages and the sweetness will melt your heart. So if you like BDSM, sexy Doms, sweet subs and the bad guy gets it in the end, then look no further!

When Timothy Fisher, his wife Hannah, and their daughter Mindy leave Pennsylvania to begin a new life in Kentucky, Hannah finds it hard to adjust. Will Christian County ever feel like home? Nothing Timothy does seems to please Hannah. Has the move from Lancaster spelled the beginning of the end? When a tragedy occurs, an inconsolable Hannah blames her husband for their loss. Timothy can barely rise beneath the weight of guilt, his wife’s hostility, and stress of his job. What dramatic second chance will God provide to heal their grief?

Hannah did not want to move to Kentucky. She’d be leaving her home, her parents and all that was familiar to her. She knew her husband was moving her because she spent too much time with her mother and let her interfere in their marriage. That didn’t make her happier about it.

Ms. Brunstetter sets her story in Amish country and the story includes all the Amish families and how they all interact. I enjoy reading about their culture and learning some of their words and this story gives you an opportunity to do that.

The title is most appropriate for this story. Hannah struggles from the beginning to the end until she finally comes to terms with what has happened in the past and how she wants to live in the future. She’s a confused young woman. She loves Timothy and her daughter, Mindy, but she grew up tied to her mother’s apron strings and she misses her dreadfully. Knowing Timothy thought she was spending too much time with her mother now that she was married doesn’t make it any better. Because Hannah is so busy feeling sorry for herself, she’s not real easy for the rest of the family to befriend or welcome to Kentucky. Her actions often make the situation worse and exacerbate her relationship problems.

I often wanted to pick Hannah up and shake her (gently, of course), like you would a small child you want to make a point with. She’s so bull-headed and self-centered she doesn’t see what she’s doing to Timothy. She did get me engaged in the story, though. Timothy is a good man and is trying to be patient with Hannah, but when they have a family tragedy, things fall apart.

When I had almost given up on Hannah, the author brought me back from the brink of the cliff and moved the story towards closure. I would have liked to see more sense in Hannah’s character sooner, but it is the story of her struggle, as the title implies. It’s a good read, the Amish way of life is interesting and I was happy to see Hannah finally evolve into womanhood. This is the third book in this series Kentucky Brothers, so series readers might want to check out the other books, too.

After several criticisms about the lack of passion in her sculptures, Shannon is determined to face her fears and take desire by the balls. A one-night stand should do the trick.

2nd Lt. Brody Essex is an active duty Marine with one goal: come home, get rested, go back. Brody isn’t interested in a date arranged through Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand service like the rest of his friends from the Corps have had, but he doesn’t hesitate to fill in for a Brother who can’t go on his own.

The last thing either Shannon or Brody expect is a wondrous, soul deep connection, but is the spark of lust enough to bring the two loners in from the cold?

I think I am in love.

What woman wouldn’t fall instantly in love with Lieutenant Brody Essex? He’s patient, kind, intelligent, trustworthy, and drop dead sexy! When another Marine buddy asked him to step in on a blind date at the last minute, he never expected to meet a woman like Shannon.

Artist Shannon Fabray signed up for a one night stand for an unusual reason. Her sculptures, though beautiful, lack passion. She thought if she could get past her previous trauma, a rape that occurred years prior, she could unlock that hidden part of herself and pour it into her work.

In walked Brody. He listened to Shannon, and slowly drew out her insecurities before confidently helping her overcome them. By giving her the power, he helped her become the woman she probably should have been all along.

The connection between these two was palpable and the sex was as hot as I’ve read. I’ll admit a personal bias to military men, but Brody was the dream man for so many women. Shannon may have been damaged, but it was a joy to watch her slowly take control of her life and find the woman buried within!

Although the story was short, there was a clear beginning, middle, and end – including a very satisfying resolution. I love these characters and would love to revisit them sometime in the future! I’ll definitely be looking for more of Ms. Long’s work. If you want a quick, hot read, this is definitely a book to pick up!
