There is a very small problem with Hank and Mindy’s house. And if they don’t fix it in a week, they’ll pay a hefty fine and the house will be leveled! Yes, you can fight City Hall, you just can’t win. Even over the smallest infraction.

Every society needs to enforce certain rules in order to survive. As Hank and Mindy are about to discover, though, too many petty regulations can turn bureaucracy into a four-letter word.

This couple’s frustration with the strict by-laws in their city grows more inflamed by the minute. This piece was so short that the reader doesn’t really get a chance to see the conflict build up slowly. The quick escalation does work in Mr. Bellinger’s favor as I soon found myself growing angry about all of the hoops these characters had to jump through.

One of the best scenes involves a secondary character who makes an unexpected adjustment to their surroundings. This change is foreshadowed early on and seeing it come to fruition injects some humour into an otherwise quite serious plot. I don’t know if the author has any plans to write about this character in the future but I can definitely see how they could be further developed in one or more additional stories about this universe.

My only criticism is that the ending seemed rushed. At first I didn’t quite understand what was happening and needed to reread it before everything made sense. The solution the main characters came up with was something I figured out early on but it did make sense in the context of the story.

A Silly Millimeter is an unexpectedly funny tale about the importance of obeying the law. I’d recommend it to anyone who has ever wished they could pick and choose from among only some of the crazy rules that govern our lives.

For picture framer Veronica Phillips, the most dangerous thing that happens to her on a typical day is a sheet of glass breaking or getting cut by an errant wire. When a key comes out of the back of a picture she’s redoing, Ronnie soon finds herself mixed up in dark warehouses, dead bodies and harsh scrutiny by the local police for getting mixed up in the crime. Can Ronnie prove her innocence in the murder case, or will she end up being framed?

What would you do if you found a key that had been carefully hidden in a picture frame? How far would you go to unravel the mystery behind it?

With only thirteen pages to work with there’s a limited amount of space that Ms. Springer could allocate to getting to know these characters in depth but somehow I walked away feeling as if Veronica, Officer Llewellyn, Lois and Ron were individuals I’d easily recognize if we were to run into one another on the street.

Puns were used just sparingly enough that I savoured each one and the dialogue flowed so smoothly it felt as if I was eavesdropping on someone else’s life. More than once a surprising turn of phrase made me smile and savor certain passages before moving on to the next paragraph. While it wasn’t what I had been expecting the ending fit in nicely with the tone established earlier as well.

Framed includes all of the elements of a great story but unfortunately they never quite came together satisfactorily. A decision from Veronica’s past that is referenced about halfway through this tale conflicts with other information we’re given about her character. I didn’t understand why her reactions to similarly mysterious events would vary so much in the span of a few months. After reading it again some of the confusion cleared up but I still wished more time had been spent explaining why she’d changed so much in such a short period of time.

Despite these issues Framed is the perfect choice for anyone in the mood for a mystery that will keep them guessing until the end.

The TOOLS OF PROPHECY is the second volume in an epic saga which describes a prophecy that has placed the Riverton brothers in the lead roles of a struggle to save their world from being overrun by unspeakable horrors. This destiny requires that they face off with the demons that nearly destroyed their world over five centuries ago.

In the first book, the population of wizards had been practically eradicated by the former tyrant. The Rivertons are now charged with creating an Academy of Magic, recruiting qualified students, and furthering their own training with secrets that have long been held by the reclusive elves.

Despite their youth, a mysterious spirit has engaged them in an epic struggle to gain mastery of their newfound skills, help raise and train two armies, and stay alive long enough for their final showdown with destiny.

The only things that stand in their way are the assassins hired to destroy them and the Demon Lord’s minion who holds a personal grudge and intends to witness the young boys’ deaths.

I so enjoyed the first book in this series that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next.  Tools of Prophecy is a solid fantasy novel for kids.  It’s definitely the second book in a series, and I’m not certain how well it would stand alone, but that’s okay: Heirs of Prophecy is a great book, so read it first!

This book continues the battle between good and evil, introducing an even greater good, the antithesis to Sammael.  It also brings in other evil entities, and begins to unite the various factions in the land who are fighting for good.

It’s this coming together that slowed this book down a bit.  The first half is mostly the various folks finding their place. The establishment of the new school, training, and so on.  While certainly necessary, as much of this learning is integral to the plot later on, it did make the story drag a bit.

Still, things certainly pick up again in the second half, as threats become real, battles rage, evil attacks good and main characters may (or may not) survive.  The author has a firm grasp on his characters, and they don’t act without motivation.  Some feel a little smug to me (Sloane, for instance … there were times I wanted to sit her in a corner), but I need to remember that these are kids we’re dealing with, ones who don’t have the benefit of time and experience to temper their behavior. They’re endowed with these amazing gifts and powers, it’s only natural they’d get a bit smug or arrogant at times.  One thing I do enjoy with these books is that the parents are present, and they act like parents should.

The book has everything a reader wants: action, romance, excitement.  And the ending!  Exciting, interesting and “can’t-catch-your-breath” exhausting. Then, just when you think it’s all clear, the author tosses in a cliffhanger again and leaves me wanting more.  I am looking forward to the next book in the series and I highly recommend it to kids of all ages.

Luther Lexington has no clue why his brother John sent for him, but he doesn’t question it. What he doesn’t expect to find is a mocha beauty in the guise of security personnel. She throws her fists first and asks questions later.

Tanya Babineaux did what she was supposed to do as a Club Lexx security guard—make trespassers leave by any means necessary. How was she to know Luther was the owner’s little brother.

As things heat up, Tanya tries to keep her distance. She harbors a secret, and if Luther doesn’t stop chasing her…she could lose everything.

The new bouncer at Club Lexx isn’t just hottness in black boots, she literally has Luther going head over heels at their first meeting. It’s a case of mistaken identity with a kick!

Luther Lexington, retired Marine, has been asked by his brother, John, to meet him at Club Lexx. While he has no idea why he was summoned by his big brother, he does know that when John calls there has to be a good reason. He didn’t expect to be greeted by the beautiful bouncer with a fierce dose of attitude. Luther’s instantly attracted to the woman behind the voice and challenges her to make good on her threat to “…remove you from the premises by force”. Tanya Babineaux is a no-nonsense, take no prisoners kind of girl, and she had no doubt in her mind that she could do what she said she could. Tanya was also attracted to Luther but romance was not part of her agenda, there were other more pressing personal things she had to do.

Tell Me, Touch Me, Feel Me is the third book in the Club Lexx series and it is very entertaining, the characters are well developed and the premise of this novella kept me interested. The author’s description of the characters gave me enough background so that I understood what drove them. This is a stand alone novella but by reading the first two books in this series, Whip Me Real Good and Keep Me Satisfied you would get a better understanding of the dynamics between each of the characters.

I loved Tanya’s spirit, she’s a fighter in more ways than one. Her main goal was to make enough money to save her grandmother’s house. Luther is the kind of guy that dreams are made of, he would do anything to protect the woman he loved, even go against his idiot brothers Zachary and Donovan.

The author, Kassanna, is a good story teller, she drew me in and kept me glued until the last page. After reading her novellas, this reader looks forward to more of her work. Tell Me, Touch Me, Feel Me is a good read; pick up a copy. While I can’t guarantee you’ll enjoy it as much as I did, I do think it was well worth the experience.

What if you lost your true soul mate, the one person in life you were meant to be with? Would your love ever truly die? Not if you’re Noah Hartman, who refuses to let go of Robin after she inexplicably abandons their love and disappears from his life seemingly forever, her hidden secret yet to be discovered.

And when you finally accept your fate and do your best to move on with your life, what do you say when the unthinkable happens: your true love Robin reappears as your wedding ceremony to another woman is about to commence, looks deep into your soul with her loving, tear-filled eyes, and tells you the one thing you’ve desperately longed to hear for all of these years?

But the ending to this heart-wrenching love story has yet to be written, as Noah, old and sick in a hospital bed, tells his story of love and loss to Josh, a wise orderly at Mount Sinai Hospital. As his family members arrive to bid him goodbye, Noah discovers a far greater truth about his past, present, and future. Things are definitely not as they appear as the pieces of a shattered love are put back together in the remarkable final chapter of Noah’s life.

Noah Hartman has reached the end of his long and eventful life, and wants to tell the story of his undying love to someone. As he lies in his hospital bed, he recounts the path his life took, the ups as well as the downs, to an attentive orderly, Josh Numen. The story he tells is one of love lost, found and lost again. When he finally decides to move on with someone else, his true love returns. There are secrets she had kept from him, and Noah, second son in a well to do Jewish family, has felt lost without her, and is stunned when, after thirteen years, Robin shows up at the church where he is waiting for the woman he plans to marry, and blurts out her feelings. Does Noah marry Sarah, the woman his mother approves? Or does he follow his heart, and return to Robin, the one woman who makes his heart beat and his life complete? Can they solve the mystery of her past and move on?

Sebastian Cole has written a thought provoking and intriguing story in The Sand Dollar. The characters are well defined and passionate. The story is uniquely told as a narrative by Noah, moving through the past, his past with Robin, and there are some unexpected twists in this story. The world is the recent past through to an unnamed future period, and once the story hooked me, I could not put it down.

Noah Hartman is an unusual character, and at first comes across as a bit juvenile and spoiled. As the story moves on, his character develops, and he becomes a man of determination and worth. Second son in his family, he wants to live life on his terms, not follow some path his parents set for him. When Noah started to stand up to them, I gained a new perspective on his personality. I enjoyed watching as this man recounted his life and the mistakes he made to Josh and his joy when he met Robin, his soul mate was beautiful. I did feel sorry for him when Robin’s condition separated them, and he was confused by it all. But Noah is a strong character, and he was not going to give up easily.

Robin is beautiful, caring, and very fragile at times. She has problems from her past, things she has suppressed for her own mental health, but she loves Noah. I liked that Robin could see the man in Noah, the one who was willing to give her his love, although she couldn’t always see it for what it was. She’s a very complex woman, sweet and innocent at time, and then hard and seemingly uncaring of everyone. I like Robin for her generous nature and her willingness to keep trying.

There are some challenges both of these characters need to overcome to be together, and sometimes the problems seem insurmountable. But Mr. Cole slowly reveals the hidden meanings behind so many of Robin’s actions, and shows a different side to Noah as he finally grows into the promise of the man I saw early in this book. I will say one thing, I did not see the ending of this one coming, and it brought tears to my eyes. Do Noah and Robin have their happy ever after? I refuse to spoil it for anyone, you need to read it for that answer.

Hawk Blackwater thought Freewill, Wyoming was the place to get his life back together. Riley Scott thought it the best place to hide, half a country away from those hunting her. For Hawk his focus was on finding the killer of the previous sheriff and discovering the cause of the mysterious lights in the Laramie Mountains. Neither realized they were on a collision course, or that the explosive chemistry between them would change both of their lives.

A handsome, rugged sheriff and an intelligent, beautiful woman trying to escape a dangerous past; Dark Secrets has all the makings of a real page turner. While I did enjoy many aspects of the book, as a whole, the story left me wanting more.

Desiree Holt is a very good writer. I have read some of her other titles and always enjoy the way she turns a phrase, and describes the events as they unfold. She creates characters we can root for, and her hero, Hawk Blackwater, and heroine, Riley Scott, were no exceptions. Hawk was intelligent and forthright, and is taken immediately by the nervous Riley. He knows she’s hiding something, but is far too terrified to confide in him. When she finally does, the two make a connection which, while fast, is undeniable.

The environment of the small town was beautifully set, and I could imagine walking down the streets from one location to another. The mountains were also described wonderfully and added much to the quaint setting of the story.

In addition to the positives of the book, there were negatives. The pacing of the story as a whole felt rushed. The beginning gave a recap of backstory, as well as a rundown of the minor characters, including numerous deputies, and it felt a bit ‘too much too soon.’ It was hard to keep track of who was who, and in a suspense story, I like to keep track of characters in an attempt to figure out whodunit. I did realize shortly thereafter that this was unlike many other mysteries, in that this seemed to be intended as a shorter story, but that meant much of the tale was told by way of telling instead of showing. There were several conversations that were skipped over or told by way of recap, and I felt something was missing because of it.

Most of the loose ends were tied up by the end of the book, and despite the rapidness of it, I wasn’t left with many questions. The relationship of Hawk and Riley was centerpoint, and they got their happily ever after the way most would want them to.

As a short tale, this one was fun to read. If you’re looking for a quick paced tale, Dark Secrets may be a good choice.

What he’s sworn to protect, she’s willing to sacrifice to save those she loves…

When dedicated teacher Lily Wheeler interrupts a vicious gang attack on one of her students, she vows it won’t happen again. But her rash interference puts her in the path of a cold-blooded killer and the constable tracking him–a man she has little reason to trust, but can never forget.

Constable Chase Porter returned to Aspen Lake to see justice done, not renew old acquaintances. But when he rescues the woman he once loved from a volatile situation, he realizes his feelings for Lily haven’t lessened over the years.

Now, the dangerous killer Chase has sworn to capture has Lily in his sights. Can Chase and Lilly learn to trust each other again before it’s too late–or will old insecurities jeopardize their future?

Picture an ordinary day, in an ordinary small town. School has let out. People are making their way to their destination. Minds are filled with things to do, places to go….You get the idea. Until you notice a strange group of people that seem to be huddling together. Does that set any warnings off in your gut instinct? For teacher Lily Wheeler, it does,. And that’s only the beginning of the nightmare this woman is about to endure….

Never think things like this don’t happen in small towns. They do. It’s everywhere. Lily has now found herself in the middle of a dangerous group of people. The protective aspect in her wants to keep a student she knows safe. She’s willing to go above and beyond. Lily isn’t afraid of going up head to head against danger. A little hard headed? Perhaps. But wouldn’t you do the same thing? Lily’s strong willed, opinionated, and a perfect example of what today’s heroines have shaped out to be. She’s not without her quirks and pitfalls, of course, but that’s what makes for the conflict within the book.

Not only does she have to deal with this situation, but it all brings her past back when ex beau Chase comes into the picture. Now a police officer, he’s got to do all he can for Lily, along with the person in trouble. Can you just imagine how the sparks fly and the intensity heats up? Oh yes, within the pages of Backlash comes plenty of angst. Add in the suspenseful element of stopping the villain, and you get a page turning story.

I like the small town setting. This community looks out for one another, but when danger is near is when you learn who the good folks really are. Ms. Good sure spins a tale of deceit and a trail of clues that lead right to a climax I never imagined.

Need some suspense to keep you up long into the night? Why not give Backlash a chance. Immerse yourself in the strong sense of right and wrong, with a great cast of characters.

The game has always cast a shadow over Oriana Delgado’s life. She should hate the game. But she doesn’t. The passion and the energy of the sport is part of her. But so is the urge to drop the role of the Dartmouth Cobra owner’s ‘good daughter’ and find a less…conventional one.

Playmaker, Max Perron, never expected a woman to accept him and his twisted desires. Oriana came close, but he wasn’t surprised when she walked away. A girl like her needs normal. Which he can’t give her. He’s too much of a team player, and not just on the ice.

But then Oriana’s father goes too far in trying to control her and she decides to use exposure as blackmail. Just the implication of her spending the night with the Cobra’s finest should get her father to back off.

Turns out a team player is exactly what she needs.

Oriana has done everything all her life for her father’s approval–even dating the man he wants her to. That all ends when she finds out that Paul has been cheating on her–with her father’s approval. The act shows Oriana just how little she matters to her father after all. When Max and the other players find out Oriana needs help, many agree to come to her aide. Max has loved Oriana forever and waited for the right time. He brings Oriana into his world and hopes that she will not only trust him and the others but open up and allow all her desires to come true.

My goodness, there are so many alpha males on this hockey team and each one is a great man. I had a hard time choosing just as Oriana does. I loved Max, Sloan and Dominik just as much she does. Each man is wonderful in his own way and each needs and gives Oriana something different. Separately, they may make mistakes, but when they are working together they make a wonderful whole.

Watching each man give his heart to Oriana was a beautiful read. Sloan has built a wall around himself and his heart that slowly melts away with the help of the other men and Oriana. Max has loved her for so long he is afraid that his kink will frighten her away yet Oriana finds no fault in him and is more than willing to try. Dominik is the Master Dom of them all and tries to guard his heart but Oriana wiggles her way into it. Oriana finds herself falling for each man in return. As each man helps bring Oriana into the lifestyle and show her that what she needs and wants is more than just available to her.

As the four sort out all of their feelings they must also find a way to fix what’s wrong with the team. I loved watching not only the interaction of Oriana and each man but also the interaction between everyone. The camaraderie of the men was a nice thing to see. Oriana has a wonderful heart and it was nice to see her open up and grow with the help of her men. I’m glad that she and all the men find a happy ending. This book does include some extreme scenes and may be a bit much for some readers. I found this book a great introduction to the Dartmouth Cobras and this series. Bianca Sommerland pulls the reader into the world of hockey and brings these characters vividly to life. I cannot wait to see what comes next for this team.

The road to passion is paved with guilty pleasures.

Faith Hillman is in a bit of a pickle. She’s been commissioned to write a series of magazine articles on spicing up your love life. She’s got the theme—the “Seven Sexy Sins”—but there’s one major problem. She hasn’t experienced any of them.

Ever since Faith’s older brother gave Rusty Thorne a black eye for kissing her on her eighteenth birthday, he’s kept his distance, waiting for the right time to make his move. This is it. She needs a research partner? He’s the man for the job.

When sex-on-legs Rusty offers his services, Faith is all over it—with one caveat. The notorious heartbreaker must sign a confidentiality contract. Just to keep him safe from her brother’s wrath, of course…and her heart off Rusty’s long list of conquests.

As they work their wicked way through the list, the implications of the contract hit Rusty as hard as the handcuffs binding his wrists to the bed. It isn’t just Faith’s touch that rocks his world. It’s the way his heart likes it that blows his defenses out of the water. And makes him wonder, when the contract ends, if he can bear to let her go.

Warning: Includes rebellious hero who enjoys inserting Tab A into Slots B, C, and even occasionally D. Also includes highly inappropriate use of a Mars Bar.

As a journalist and blogger, it is Faith’s responsibility to make sure she does her research on the topics she presents to her readers. But there is no need to worry about this levitra 5mg problem. As it turns out this latest article is going to require an extensive and personal exploration of the body and she is going to need someone of the male persuasion to help her. An open mind and a willing body is what Faith needs, but having no thought as to how to find such a man is a problem. Or not a problem where her friend Rusty is concerned. He volunteers for the sexy experiment and believes their friendship is strong enough to stand the test when the seven sins are completed. After recovering from the initial shock of his willingness, Faith remains a bit skeptical since she’s harbored a crush on him for the longest time yet agrees with the stipulations. However, as they set out to fulfill each sinful desire, emotions hard pressed to remain hidden come racing to the surface and begin fracturing their friendship while revealing the possibilities of something more. Rusty’s reluctance and Faith’s fear of a broken heart only magnify the intensity of emotions that explode with each encounter as they live for the seven moments they have together.

Fun, sinful, and of colorfully sexy, this story is a buffet of wicked deliciousness. Faith’s erotic journey is brilliantly and creatively well done with genuine characters and stimulating imagery. I appreciated the realism instilled in each scene from the racy to ridiculous parts of their intimate moments. The author effectively mixes humor and meaning into each scene with a gradual intensity I didn’t expect. The characters are likable and with a friendship already in progress, it was easy to fall into a connection with them. Each new sinful excursion was a feast for my reading senses and I often found myself smiling at the pair and their inability to stop wanting each other outside of the bedroom. Faith’s innocence and enthusiasm as well as Rusty’s confidence and inexperience in the art of emotional sex make them a couple to root for. It is a test of friendship and self-awareness that I thoroughly enjoyed with wonderful character growth, a generous pacing, and an outstanding storyline.

Readers concerned with some of the sexual elements in the story should fear not as they are not prevalent throughout and hold meaning to only certain parts of the story. This story is sure to inspire readers looking to experiment and broaden their sensual and kinky desires.

As can be expected, there is another group who wants control of the crystal and a pure spirit to do it with. They are making weapons and have plans to take over the world. When they go after Janette, the story gets even more exciting.

The two main characters are Janette and Darius. Darius is a guardian and takes the responsibility of keeping Janette safe. That’s no small task. There is a traitor in the safe house and action picks up and doesn’t stop until the very end.

All the characters are well developed, they each face numerous challenges and the bad guys are really evil and full of only their self-interest. The fight between the two factions is intense. Janette has been learning about Illuminists, but she’s not through with her training. When she becomes a pawn in a game that has been going on for years, it’s dangerous, breath-taking and almost looks hopeless. Even worse, she’s fallen in love with Darius.

This story grabbed me right at the beginning and I had great fun seeing the world the author created. The dynamics between characters keep the story interesting and I read it all in one sitting. It’s also going in my personal library because I liked it so much and want to read it again.

The best part: I think there will be a sequel. Janette’s friend Sophia has been affected by the crystals, too, and she seems to have a crush on Bion. I’m hoping we will have an opportunity to visit this world again.
