Spoiled New York rogue Royce Mc Arthur lives a charmed life. He sees no reason to settle down, until his mother issues her decree that he must grow up, find a wife and produce some grandchildren…preferably before she dies of old age. But his choices are quite limited considering the only women of his acquaintance are ones of ill repute.

Meeting the beautiful Evelyn DeJarlias at a ball gives him hope he may have found the one. Her southern blue collar outspokenness and lack of refinement draws him like a moth to a flame. Unfortunately, she does not find him nearly as endearing — consistently refusing his lavish gifts and his attentions, she poses a challenge he simply cannot ignore.

When his mother and her widowed father begin to keep company together secretly, it provides the perfect excuse for him to spend time with Miss DeJarlias, but figures from Royces past threaten to destroy the blossoming love between the couple. Evelyn must decide if she is willing to trust the man or hold his past indiscretions against him.

‘Classic’ is the first word that pops into mind after so-happily reading An Unlikely Alliance by Rachel Van Dyken. This meets every expectation one might have for a romance.

Evelyn dreams of a glamorous life. Like “Belle” she wants ‘so much more than this provincial life.’ Hers is a middle class life however, not horrible…but far from her dreams. Then, almost magically, her circumstances change…although that might not be the gift it seems, when it comes to dealing with tutors.

Royce McArthur is perhaps not 100% rake, but close; he’s vain and flippant and yet, funny. And attractive. All right, like all the other women around him, this reader fell for him, too. He isn’t fooling anybody, least of all Evelyn. Conversations between the two are simply hysterical. The more I read of this one, the more I wanted to continue reading. Smart and sassy doesn’t begin to convey their dialogue – and there are other entertaining characters (as we find out from overhearing the butler who overhears the kitchen staff, who has it from… but that would be telling!) .

One or two points in the story seemed less believable than should be, such as: a twenty-one year old being hit by a tutor? But these are small points, and in all take nothing away from the focus of the story.

If overall the plot’s a shade predictable, it’s no worse for that, and perhaps, all the more sweetly satisfying. And, from moment to moment, I never never exactly might happen: dinners and dances just never go as they should! Reading it is like anticipating the flavor of one’s favorite pie…and then finding that somehow, expectations are exceeded. Do read.

Lily Brookstone, the daughter of a workaholic United States Senator, defies her father’s wishes by moving to Los Angeles in pursuit of a dancing career. But the tough town hasn’t been easy on her, and after two years she finds herself disowned by her father, dropped by her agent, and recovering from a dance injury. Determined to live her life independently without relying on others, Lily refuses to give up her dream of making it as a dancer and instead works herself ragged at three different jobs to make ends meet. Serving coffee and teaching dance classes to pre-schoolers are ordinary enough day jobs, but Lily dons a disguise when she works the late shift as an exotic dancer at a topless strip club.

Raised to be fiercely independent and hesitant to trust, at first she keeps her “”night job”” a secret from her new beau, Marc Sloane, a tough L.A.P.D. Officer with an uncanny knack for reading people. But her cover is blown when Marc attends a bachelor party at Lily’s strip club and recognizes her.

Realizing that she has a chance at true love and knowing that her life is in danger from the threat of her stalker, Lily must not only trust Marc to keep her exotic dancing job a secret, but she must also trust him to protect both her life and her heart.

The ability to remain positive and determined despite your world collapsing around you is a trait few possess, but it was the dominant trait of the heroine in Dancing with Danger that drew not only the hero to her, but me as well!

A person would be hard-pressed not to like Lily Brookstone. A passion for dancing has estranged her from her only family – her father and, although she had found some success in dance, an injury left her with few options. She worked three jobs to pay off her debts and make ends meet; one as an exotic dancer.

One fateful night, rookie cop Marcus Sloan and his partner pull over Lily’s car and Marc is immediately taken with her. The next day, he happens into a local coffee shop and finds Lily working behind the counter. They hit it off and he asks her out. Before their scheduled date, however, Marc discovers her secret job when out with friends for a bachelor party. He chases her when she flees, and in the process of settling things, Marc discovers a suspicious vehicle hanging around. His fears of a stalker are confirmed when Lily’s car is vandalized. While trying to help protect her, the two develop a wonderful connection and soon fall in love.

I loved the simplicity of Ms. Sheehan’s story. It was a straight man/woman romance with the lingering mystery of the identity of Lily’s stalker, and the writing allowed me to focus almost exclusively on the hero and heroine. Marc was an awesome hero; your typical Alpha-male who stopped at nothing to defend and protect his woman. Lily, while independent, learned to depend and lean on Marc as she opened her heart to him. It was an endearing combination and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them fall in love, despite it being on a rather hurried schedule. It felt right and natural, and I was rooting for them every step of the way.

Ms. Sheehan also used various points of view to tell her story. While she changed viewpoints often, and sometimes after short periods, I was never confused as to who was speaking and who was witnessing the action. It was a bit unconventional, but she did it very well and I think it adds to the story – particularly the viewpoint of the stalker.

My only negative was towards the end of the book. The final chapter seemed to focus on surrounding characters who, although mentioned earlier, and who had impact on the hero and heroine, weren’t part of the larger story and I would have preferred to see more of Marc and Lily and how they were wrapped up. An epilogue set a year later would have been awesome – I still want to know how the two handled their relationship once the danger was passed and they had time to really get to know each other. There were also a few other loose ends (what happened with her new dance agent, etc) that I would have loved to find out as well.

Despite the very minor disappointment, which was really only disappointing because I loved these characters so much and wanted more, the story was a very enjoyable read. I’ll definitely look for other titles by Ms. Sheehan and I’d even love to see more of Marc and Lily. If you love a good romance, mixed with the potential danger of an unknown stalker, this is a perfect title to pick up!

A priceless mystical treasure, a dark secret order, and a vengeful fallen angel—forces collide as the battle for Middleburg continues . . .

For gang members Raphael and Ignacio, plans for the homecoming dance are almost as harrowing as their recent victory against the demonic forces that threaten their town. Despite their tentative alliance, a fight breaks out between the preppie Toppers and the goth Flatliners when Topper girl Aimee shows up at the dance with Raphael, the rival gang’s leader. In the midst of an all-out rumble, the homecoming queen discovers a supernatural power that causes a potentially deadly catastrophe. Meanwhile, a charismatic half-angel, half-human arrives in Middleburg with plans to steal Aimee from Raphael.

To add to the bizarre circumstances surrounding the town, real-estate moguls begin buying up most of the Flats and evicting the tenants. These mysterious men seek a priceless treasure prophesied in ancient Chinese writings and will stop at nothing to find it. But Raphael and his friends vow to get to it first and use it to reclaim their homes.

As Raphael and the Flatliners and Zhai and the Toppers hone their supernatural abilities and search for the treasure, Aimee begins kung fu training, intent on using her new skills to locate and rescue her mother. When she discovers that the elusive treasure may be the key, the race to find it intensifies.
,br>But there are others who seek the treasure too, and they have the power to reduce all of Middleburg, and perhaps the world, to ashes. . . .

Gates and Keel do it again with the second book in The Tracks series. This pair of authors is quickly becoming one of my favorite duos with each book about the Flatliners and the Toppers.

Middleburg is in the middle (pardon the pun) of yet another battle–both physical and spiritual–and our favorite characters are back and along for the ride. They aren’t static, however. The authors show how the events in Book One, Dark Territory, shape and change them–with the most profound change coming in Maggie. Kudos to the authors for making her so much more than she was in the first book.

This series keeps getting better…and I’m looking forward to the spring for the final installment in The Tracks.

What is the scariest moment of your life?

When I was twenty-five years old I went home to Minnesota from Alaska, where I was working, for the Christmas holiday. While home, I purchased a new chocolate brown Toyota Corolla hatchback car with a stick shift and all-weather radial tires. I had a month off work which was perfect timing for me to drive my new car back to Alaska.

The trip went great as I traveled across North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Washington. When I attempted to pass through customs into Canada I was asked to park my car and meet an agent inside the border station. The Border Agent I met with wanted assurance I understood that traveling the Alcan highway, which was unpaved at the time, was treacherous, the weather could be unpredictable and traveling alone was not safe. I assured the agent I would be fine, showed him a cashier’s check to demonstrate I had funds should they become necessary, and went on my way.

At twenty-five you think of yourself as extremely capable. You believe with every fiber of your being that everything will work out as you want because really, there is no other acceptable option. That was my mind-set as I drove away from the Canadian Border.

I stayed in Prince George, BC my first night in Canada. I had no problem finding a room and felt quite safe after unloading everything from my car. On the second day I started driving reasonably early as I wanted to make Fort Nelson by evening, which was 820 kms up the road.

The further north I traveled the more snow packed the roads became. Eventually the snow-pack became ice-pack with snow drifts alongside the road that rose higher than the big eighteen wheelers.

Late the second morning it started to snow leaving just enough of a dusting to make the ice-packed roads slick as glass. As I started to make a slight left turn to stay on the Alcan Hwy I felt my little car with the strong all-weather radial tires start to slide. The car took on a life of its own, slipping and sliding sideways down the road, gaining momentum until the car was spinning like a top whirling around and around until it caught a piece of a snow bank, made one last turn and dove ass backward into the ditch.

I sat in the driver’s seat of my Toyota hatchback with all-weather radial tires and wondered what the… The car was buried up to the side windows. There was no way I would be able to open the doors. I could roll down the driver’s side window, which I did and immediately regretted my enthusiasm to feel fresh air as snow rolled in through the open space and onto my lap.

I rested my head against the steering wheel taking stock of what items I could use for survival. Then, I heard the clearly recognizable down-shifting of a big-rig. I lifted my head to look out my windshield and there stopped directly in front of my little car was a semi-truck with two occupants. I know I was smiling as I watched the two male occupants jump down from the cab and climb through thigh-high snow to get to my car. The one on my side leaned in the open window, winked and with a crooked smile said, “We have a plan.” I almost cried! Thank God they had a plan!

The truckers pulled my car out of the ditch, cleared it for continued drivability and followed me into Fort Nelson. Once in Fort Nelson the men made me follow them to the auto parts store. They helped me purchase the right size chains for my tires. They also put out a call to other truckers to keep an eye out for a chocolate colored Toyota hatchback car just in case I might need a hand further up the road. How great is mankind!

I was twenty-five, invincible and unafraid of anything or anyone. That is, until my little Toyota with the all-weather radial tires went ass backwards into a ditch along the Alcan Highway in the middle of winter. That was and still is the scariest moment of my life. To be alone in winter, unprepared, ass-backwards in a ditch 0n the Alcan Hwy is a precarious situation to be in today much less oh those many years ago.

Did the experience influence my travels from that day forward? Of course not! I was twenty-five. The incident was forgotten until you asked me to think and write about my scariest moment.

Again, thank you for hosting this stop on the tour.

In 1652, Sara travels to Whisper where she meets the ruggedly handsome leader of the local werewolf pack. Nathaniel recognizes the curious young vampire as his mate and pursues her in a way only a werewolf can. After a brief but passionate courtship, she accepts his proposal, despite her family’s dislike of his kind. Sara and Nathaniel’s marriage is destroyed when her manipulative parents place them under a curse. Sara has no memory of Nathaniel, who has been turned into a statue in the town square. Every night he comes alive, but cannot leave the area in search of his love who has been taken back to England by her family.

Centuries later, after a life of intense study and travel, Sara is drawn back to the small New England town. Ignoring protests from her family, she returns to Whisper where she takes a job at the library. After hours, the statue in the lobby of a handsome man in colonial dress comes alive and claims that Sara belongs to him. In spite of her terror, she is aroused by the man and inexplicably drawn to him.

If Sara’s love is true, she can break the curse. If it’s not, Nathaniel will spend eternity imprisoned by magic, betrayed by the woman who stole his heart.

In 1652 young vampire Sara Chancellor and her parents travel to Whisper, Massachusetts, to try and convince her uncle Edmond to return England with them. Her uncle, along with other supernaturals, founded the colony of Whisper, where creatures like them can live among humans in relative peace. As vampires, Sara’s father Robert and her mother Emily think this is an abomination since humans are food, and you don’t play with your food. Also being vampires, all these other supernatural creatures were beneath them. Edmond tried to explain to his brother that this is the way of life he has chosen, and he wanted to show his brother first hand what it’s like.

At a dinner party thrown to introduce them to the other paranormal species, Sara meets her first werewolf, a barefoot Nathaniel Pritchard. She was mesmerized from the moment he walked in. There was a wildness about him that drew her in, and Nathaniel felt the same pull towards Sara.

Sara and Nathaniel’s love story is bittersweet because they found love in 1652 then were torn apart by her selfish, controlling parents. Sara lost all memory of him and Nathaniel was cursed to be a statue during the day and wolf at night. This reader understood the anguish Nathaniel was going through and knew that he would wait forever for her to come back to him.

Whisper: Bronzed brought out many emotions while reading it, when they were forced apart by her parents, this reader felt the sadness of love lost. When they found each other again you knew the happily ever after was at hand. This was a pleasant read, a bit slow in parts but it still kept me interested.

Every Time She Uses Magic Something Goes Terribly Wrong…

Vana wishes she hadn’t dropped out of genie training. Now she’s determined to get a grip on both her genie magic and her life. But the harder she tries to fix things for her intriguing new master, the more she drives him crazy…

Except There’s Nothing Ever Wrong About Him…

Pro–football player Zane Harrison finally has control of the family estate and is determined to put to rest his grandfather’s eccentric reputation. Until he discovers that behind all the rumors is a real, live genie who stirs feelings in him he’s never known before. The more Zane tries to help Vana harness her powers, the more her madcap magic entangles his heart…

Zane Harrison just wants to get back to his life as a professional football player. As the last of the Harrisons, he has returned to the old family home, determined to sell it and escape his grandfather’s eccentric reputation. What he finds, however, is more that he can believe.

Zane quickly discovers that his great-grandfather Peter wasn’t really crazy, but was, in fact a kind and generous man, who just happened to possess a genie. And not just any genie, but a beautiful, sensuous and very definitely inept one. Vana is determined to show Zane that he needs the house just as much as the house needs him. As each catastrophe is worse than the one before, she has to try and harness her errant powers, and show Zane what life could like, without falling in love with him, that’s not allowed for good reason.

Then, there’s Gary, Zane’s high school nemesis, determined to find out the secret to the Harrison ‘curse’ to have it for himself. Can Vana tame her powers and her attraction to Zane? Can Zane come to terms with the fact that magic really does exist, and his old family home is filled with genies, gargoyles, dancing dishes and a talking phoenix named Merlin, who always makes inopportune entrances? Can Vana stop Gary, save the house, and win Zane’s heart in the process?

Magic Gone Wild is Judi Fennell’s third book of magical genies. I have the others, but was happy to see that they are stand-alone books. This is a fun and sexy world Ms. Fennell has created, and her characters are a delight to meet. The mix of reality and magic is sometimes funny, sometimes sweet, but always engaging.

Nirvana Aphrodite, or as she prefers, Vana, is an eight hundred twenty nine year old genie. She’s sweet, sexy and wants to be successful like her twin sister. But unfortunately, Vana can’t control her magic, no matter how hard she tries-until she kisses Zane. Then things work the way they should for a while. She’s determined to convince Zane not to sell the house, with all of its enchanted inhabitants and historical value. I enjoyed watching as she got into each mess, and the things she would do to fix it sometimes made more problems for her. I liked her for her never give up attitude, and what she would do for those she cared about.

Noah Harrison is tall, handsome, and determined to make the town forget his great-grandfather’s eccentric reputation. Now that the estate has come to him, he plans to fix up the house and sell it, so he can get back to his life in the city. So imagine his surprise when he’s dropped into Vana’s genie bottle, and life becomes surreal for him. I liked Zane, and his slow acceptance of the reality of magic in the world. It was fun watching as he began to care for Vana, and learned more about his family’s history in the town of Harrisonville, Pennsylvania. Along the way, he found out that what seemed important when he first got there, just didn’t compare to what he found in the old family homestead.

There are some memorable characters in this, like Merlin the wise-cracking phoenix, the enchanted children who were now dancing dishes, and many other magical folks. The whole house became a character as well, and of course Gary, the one-time bully and prospective politician has a role in the overall events as well. There’s one huge surprise at the end, concerning who has been behind everything, and it’s a well-disguised secret till the end. I recommend this for those who believe in magic and passion and like their romance with some of both.

I always enjoy reading stories about two people who have been hurt and then find another person to mend both their heart and soul. Marry Me is that type of book and I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

Ms. Stavali created two characters who were perfect for one another. I loved the opening and how she delved into both their characters and some of their background in the first chapter. Who could not love Ben? He’s funny, handsome, and comes across as a perfect gentleman. Although you know why Julia is being guarded around Ben, you still want to give her a nudge and tell her this is the guy for you. And I felt myself cheering for both of them. The sex isn’t rushed which heightens the sexual tension in this story. The two slowly fall into bed and in love.

I especially liked the dialogue in this story. It was natural sounding and moved along this short story at the ideal pacing. By the time I got to the end of it I was surprised that it was only 83 pages. It seemed like it had been a full length novel. Not that it dragged at any part but the author did a wonderful job presenting a solid plot with these two well rounded characters.

If you’re still looking for a quick read while lounging on the deck or even taking with you on summer vacation, Marry Me is one I can recommend to you.

The early twelfth century is a time for ambitious men to prosper, and royal servant John FitzGilbert is one of them. But when the old king dies and his successor is appointed, John faces a terrible choice: he must join the rival faction-his enemies- or risk losing everything. His new wife helps him carry his burden, but his final choice will seal not only her fate, but those of his young children.

As the fight for England’s crown enters a new phase, John may be forced to make a terrible sacrifice…

It’s a time of strife, the early 12th century, and people are called upon to make decisions, and to swear loyalty to one leader or the other. The price of choosing the wrong one is everything a person holds dear.

The hero, John Fitzgilbert, is a man who knows where he stands. He’s brave beyond words, filled with honor, and irresistible as a lead man. And, he really existed. This is his story, his place in history, fictionalized in a fast-paced, exciting adventure. Should he support the dead king’s daughter to rule the country or her cousin, Stephen?

John has to make a terrible decision. Honor is at stake, but when the lives of others are involved, sometimes a person has to do things that hurt. John must face his dark side and come face-to-face with situations that secretly make him tremble with grief, but he does it.

The secondary characters, such as King Stephen or John’s two wives and children, support the storyline effortlessly and tug at a reader’s emotions. Several scenes throughout the book are particularly poignant, like when John is trapped in a battle and loses his eye, or when his young son, a greatly endearing character, is King Stephen’s hostage. That little boy, like his father, is memorable. It’s nice to know that his story is told in other books by this author.

The story unfolds with the devastating politics of the time. The reader is treated to a world filled with so many realistic medieval details of life that it’s the next best thing to being there to observe. Those who love accurate historical fiction, exciting characters, a plot filled with suspense and action, high emotions and surprises, will probably love this book.

Despite her adept skills as a huntsman and budding skills as a water witch, she eventually finds herself within Diane’s clutches. Lucky for her, an unusual and strikingly handsome cellmate keeps her safe from the carnivorous Penumbra lurking on the floor of their cage, all the while stoking a fire of longing she thought long dead inside.

Penelope’s sarcastic wit had me laughing at times. I quickly took a liking to her character as she struggled through some humanistic qualities that were easy to identify with. She couldn’t deny her attraction to Shane, or her unsatisfied desires, yet the curse hanging over her head causes her to struggle with an inner sense of restraint. She doesn’t want to be responsible for another man’s death.

Shane is likened to a gorgeous goliath with a one-track mind—sex. Of course, he has just cause. Five hundred years without would surely rev up the mating urges of any man. With his dark hair and mysterious blue eyes, he’s very easy to fall in lust with. He poses a dilemma poor Penelope could do without right now. But beneath the licentious exterior lies the loyal heart of a man desperate to love and be loved. As she starts to see this side of Shane, Penelope has no choice but to acknowledge her own growing affections for the dazzling Lothario.

WTF Dragon: Once Upon a Dragon is an enchanting little tale that opened with a nice hook. The author’s comical voice sparked my interest and kept me turning pages. I really liked how she put a little blurb at the beginning of each chapter. Some helped ground you on what was to come, others were more amusing, like The Rules of Questing.

If there were some things I could suggest for improving the story, it would be to work on the aspect of showing instead of telling. Limiting the use of the passive word was would help the reader feel more connected to the story and feel the action, rather than be reminded that they are outsiders to the plot unfolding before them. Additionally—while I enjoyed getting to know Penelope and Shane—I wished the author had indulged a bit more about their abilities. A water witch and a dragon are two fascinating creatures, each worthy of a story all their own. The limited length only allowed some basic information. As this is book two out of what I expect might be five, perhaps an allowance should made as with any series where the characters really develop over several stories instead of just one.

The end holds a pleasant surprise—I won’t spoil it for you. But Ms. Montgomery does a good job of tying off loose ends and answering a few lingering questions. Overall, I enjoyed reading her tale. It’s a fairly quick story that’s certainly worth the time.

An evil step-mother jealous of her fair-skinned step-daughter, a sex-starved dragon-shifter with thoughts of debauchery on his mind, and a fleeing water-witch desperate to survive make for an exciting, sexually-charged, and thrilling story that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. With it’s interesting characters and charming plot, WTF Dragon: Once Upon a Dragon by Dawn Montgomery is a must-read for any erotic fantasy lover.

Twenty-year-old Dahlia hates the life that she is forced to lead. But the time is quickly coming when she must make a decision that will shape the rest of her life. She’s set her sights on Jace. He is someone her family will approve of, someone that will finally gain her acceptance among her people. Then Cam comes into her life, making her question what she assumed was her inevitable destiny, giving her hope that she might be able to lead the normal existence that she longs for. But fate has its own plan for Dahlia. Now she has to find courage she didn’t know she possessed to fight for her own future.

There is much more to Dahlia than meets the eye.

Dahlia is more than a little awkward. She’s clumsy, unpopular, and hopelessly out of touch with the current trends. She doesn’t really fit in anywhere, but even worse is the fact that she feels like an outsider in her own family. Her life seems very lonely, but I admire the fact that, for the most part, she does her own thing and lives by her own set of principles.

Dahlia and her family definitely aren’t human, but I won’t spoil the story by revealing what sort of paranormal creatures they are. Ms. Bennett has an interesting take on this particular branch of the supernatural tree, but when I finished reading, I was left wanting to know more about the history of these creatures as Ms. Bennett envisions them. Ms. Bennett included just enough detail to keep the plot and characters clear, but I felt that the history of these beings could have been fleshed out a bit more.

Dahlia is in a difficult situation. On one hand, she longs to be accepted by her family and her kind. On the other hand, she actually hates her kind and their way of life. When Dahlia decides to pursue Jace, it is clear that she cannot stand him. She only wants to be with Jace to fit with her family and, in turn, the supernatural community she belongs to. However, as I said, she dislikes her kind, so I found it hard to believe she’d be willing to bind herself for life to someone she can barely tolerate in order to fit in with a group of beings she abhors. This doesn’t seem like much of a life.

The one bright spot in Dahlia’s life is Cam, a coworker at the hospital where she works. Dahlia’s feelings for Cam catch her completely off guard, but their romance is definitely sweet. I love the way Dahlia comes out of her shell when she’s with Cam. Something just clicks when they are together. They are both very comfortable around each other and I enjoyed all the flirty banter between them. It was truly a pleasure watching their romance bloom. However, Dahlia’s determination to fit in with her kind just might cost her the love of a lifetime.

The secondary characters aren’t as developed as I would have liked, but they serve their purpose in moving the plot along. I thought Dahlia’s father acted a bit oddly toward the end of the story. When Dahlia talks about her family, she paints a picture of a family that doesn’t seem to care about her or each other. However, her father seems to show a different side toward the end. Why did he wait to show this side of himself if he truly cared about his daughter? I couldn’t help but wonder if it was going to be a case of too little, too late.

Reluctance is a fun, fast paced romance that can be read in one sitting. Dahlia is a sweet, quirky heroine and her romance with Cam is compelling. I must say again how much I enjoyed watching them fall in love. If you want to know Dahlias secret and how Cam will handle it, there’s only one way to find out. Pick up a copy of Reluctance today.
