Kyla doesn’t think she’s ready to date yet. But when she’s seated next to Hollywood heartthrob Alex Richards on a long flight, she figures a fantasy or two can’t hurt. When the proverbial shit hits the fan at thirty thousand feet, she ends up in his lap like some crazy fangirl and flees in embarrassment the second the plane lands, losing a shoe in her haste.

Then Alex turns up in the same hotel bar and invites her to his room to recover her wayward footwear. She doesn’t expect him to open the door half-naked—or have far more planned than just giving back her lost property.

One night, one heartthrob, insatiable lust and years of fantasies to fulfill. Who says a girl can’t have her cake and eat it too?

Alex Richards is the hot star of Kyla Anderson’s favorite action movies and her wildest fantasies. On a flight to Kyla’s book tour stop, she springs for a first class seat and gets a helping of Alex as well. While most of her attraction remains in her head during the flight, a lost shoe leads Alex her way for a midnight rendezvous.

This is a cute romance with a light Cinderella theme, except Kyla is a published author. Alex is certainly a prince of the silver screen and once he invites her back to his hotel room, the sparks fly. The sex is hot, the chemistry sizzles and the HEA is enough to leave you warm on those cold nights, especially after their smokin’ sex scene on the veranda. It is the pressure put into each vertebra of the spine, thus hindering the proper flow of cialis viagra canada signals and arousal does not occur. Such combinations could cause blood pressure to drop to an unsafe level. sildenafil generic cheap is in a class of drugs that increase the effect of nitric oxide. One of the characters gets a particular enjoyment from the outdoor sex, and possibility of being caught in action. A little reverse voyerism kink, if you will.

The author’s easy to read style made this book very enjoyable. While Kyla is truly into Alex, she’s overly obsessed with how her ex treated her before now. At almost every turn in the story, Kyla mentally compared Alex to Robert. It became redundant after a while and a bit contrived. The story is told from Kyla’s POV so it makes sense that we know her doubts and fears more than Alex.

Ms. Carter has an adorably sweet romance here and I rooted for Kyla and Alex to stay together in the end. I highly recommend Flights of Fantasy for readers who like fairy tales in modern settings and Prince Charming movie stars.

Ruuan is a very large dragon.

Twelve-year-old Greg Hart can’t slay a dragon. He’d be lucky to win a fight against one of the smaller girls at school.

Now the magicians of Myrth have mistaken him for a legendary warrior, so they’ve yanked Greg into their world of sorcery and danger. Nothing will stop the people of Myrth from believing Greg will rescue King Peter’s daughter from Ruuan the dragon. After all, Greg has been named in a prophecy, and no prophecy has ever been wrong before.

Greg Hart has an active imagination for a boy. He’s not particularly athletic or exceptionally smart. He writes in his journal and creates exciting fantasies where he’s the “hero” in some imaginary adventure. He sure never expected to transport from his world to another and find himself ACTUALLY facing a death-defying adventure!

This author has created a very challenging course for his young character who keeps protesting he’s no hero. He takes an ordinary school kid and plops him in another world where witches and dragons and strange creatures live. His assignment: To slay the dragon and save the princess. There’s nowhere to run and if he hides in the wrong place; something might eat him.

Mr. Allen grabs your attention at the very first chapter and keeps Greg running all throughout the book. Young adults reading this will find it easy to stay connected to the characters and interested in what might turn up next in the woods. This process allows the member to restrict robotically. viagra buy online Just like any other erectiledysfunction cures, these viagra price cute-n-tiny.com medicines also have side effects. The author has a very creative writing style. Some creatures are merely odd, some will eat you, and some will kill you just for fun. It’s good that Greg has some friends with him or he’d never make it through.

One aspect I really liked about this story is how the author takes a young man with no self-confidence to speak of on an adventure that helps him grow up and understand he has skills he had never identified as being important. The author also plays word games in the story. How Greg slays the dragon is amazing. This ending will suprise with it’s cleverness!

This is a very good adventure that younger readers can enjoy. You might want to use it as a read-aloud book because they may not recognize some of the “punny” jokes included. There is also some violence and danger included in the story which makes it exciting and could be discussed if the child has any questions.

This was Greg’s first adventure and it appears he will be returning to Mryth. This series put me in mind of the Magic Tree House stories. Why not grab a copy of How to Slay a Dragon and then watch for the future books. Greg is an fantastic character you’ll want to follow.

A secret may hold for a hundred years … and then it’s time for the past to take revenge

Daphne Duvallon vowed never to return to the South years ago when she left her philandering fiance at the altar. Now family has called her back to Natchez, Mississippi, a city as mysterious and compelling as the ghostly voices that haunt her dreams.

From a time when the oldest settlement on the Mississippi was in its heyday and vast fortunes were made and lost, Daphne begins to uncover the secrets of an ancestor whose fate is somehow linked with her own. In a compelling and mesmerizing tale, now Daphne must right the wrongs of the past, or follow the same path into tragedy…

A Light on the Veranda is a multilayered story. It takes the reader back and forth from the present to the nineteenth century when another Daphne lived—a Daphne who yearned for love. Interesting parallels emerge between the two Daphnes.

There’s more to Bluff House than Daphne ever imagined when she left New York to move to the deep South. Family roots run deep in Natchez, Mississippi and Daphne’s family is no exception. The old harp at Bluff House plays in the wee hours of the morning and Daphne has visions about ancestors, long-dead.

As Daphne tries to rebuild her life she meets wildlife photographer, Sim Hopkins. Sim stirs her blood, but Daphne has experienced disastrous relationships firsthand. Trusting a man does not come easy. Even so, Daphne and Sim have a sizzling chemistry she can’t quite dismiss.

Sim has no idea his family has roots in Natchez—he’s there to photograph birds painted by Audubon long ago. The major forms of these exclusive medicines canadian pharmacies viagra are * Tablets * Soft tablets * Jelly Moreover, these online medical stores are making huge money by selling counterfeit drugs and it is the user who is suffering. Though drawn to Daphne, he has unresolved issues he hasn’t been able to come to terms with for ten years. Invisible ties seem to pull them together. It’s almost as if ghosts from the past urge both Sim and Daphne to move past all their hang-ups and reach for a happy-ever-after denied so long ago.

Ciji Ware’s ability to weave a tapestry showcasing past and present lives and emotions is amazing. An ever-present thread in the tapestry is the extent of influence the Whitaker “blue devil” genes can have on generations. Ms. Ware stirs in emotional struggles, environmental upheavals, and economic woes. This passionate tale wouldn’t be complete without manipulations of malicious ‘meanies’ such as present-day Daphne’s “Magnolia Mama”, the vindictive Jack Ebert and nineteenth century Daphne’s family and husbands. The book isn’t all darkness and gloom. There are several bright spots actually. The secondary characters are a kaleidoscope of colors that blend and add texture and continuity to the tapestry that tells a fantastic tale about mingled lives of many families—past and present.

The magic of rich, emotionally charged music that Ciji Ware writes about pulls the reader into an-otherworldly-place that transcends time. She engages all the senses with descriptions that make the story come alive as she takes the heroine and hero on a journey. They find redemption, but also bring peace to long-dead ancestors. One can almost hear a sigh of relief echo across time as ghosts of ancestors whisper well done and finally rest in peace.

A Light on the Veranda, with its well-researched history, ‘so-real’ characters, subtle humor, and meant-to-be love story is a book to be enjoyed more than once.

Livia was cast out of heaven for the crime of falling in love with a human. So what’s a fallen angel to do when she meets the man of her dreams? Falling certainly has its perks.

Ty didn’t expect the angel at his party to be fallen or to have a murky past. He also didn’t expect her to end up in his arms. Now he’s not about to let the past stand in the way of their future.

Fallen is a hot and sweet treat and perfect for warming you up on a cold winter night.

Livia was once a watcher, a guardian angel if you will, until she fell in love with her charge. But he was just using her to gain power. Livia was cast from heaven and became a fallen angel. After centuries of walking the Earth, she meets someone who touches her heart and shows her what love can be like. Ty can’t believe this beautiful woman at the party, this angel, wants him. So what’s the problem? When Livia is presented with a second chance she’ll have to decide if she wants to return home or stay with the man who stole her heart.

This is a story of second chances, love at first sight and hot chemistry between two people who want to be together forever. I love this story for its optimism and passion. Megan Slayer has created an unique world where fallen angels fall in love and find their soul mates.

Fallen is a character driven novella. Livia fell from heaven. Its intake facilitates viagra professional 100mg http://downtownsault.org/newyearseve/ the flow of blood towards his penile organ. Her wish: to find a true love, someone who wants her for herself, not what she can do for them. She hopes, after two thousand years, she may have found that in Tyler Wilson. I love Livia for her optimism and her determination to experience everything being human has to offer.

Tyler ‘Ty’ Wilson is determined to win Livia’s heart. He is handsome, sweet and hot. The attraction he feels for Livia is instant and overpowering. Ty wants to know everything about her, and yet, he just wants her. I sighed watching as his emotions got out of control and he used one bad line after another in his attempt to be charming. I liked the man he became once he stopped trying so hard.

As I said, this is a story of second chances. True ones like Livia and Ty and false ideas of trickery and evil intent aimed at Livia. Just when things look bad for our hero and heroine, forces at work help Livia find her true calling. This is a tale for those who like a bit of fantasy with their happily-ever-after.

Defying death is the ultimate dare. Defying love? Well, that’s just stupid.

A Red Hot Weekend story.

Back-to-back medical degrees took Emily Knox right where she planned to be: treating patients in an alternative cancer clinic. But nothing prepared her for a cocky, cheeky Aussie who strode into her life and dared her to cure him. She told herself it was his challenge she couldn’t resist—not his daredevil charm.

Eight months later, Rob’s out of danger…and Emily’s in trouble. She’s in deep, too deep. Worse, Rob has left the clinic against doctor’s orders. There’s nothing for it but to follow him across eleven thousand miles of land and sea to give him what for—as his doctor, of course.

Rob never expected to survive the brain tumor. Nor did he expect to fall head over heels for his very proper, very English oncologist. The problem? Her Hippocratic Oath hangs between them, keeping her just out of reach. Now, with “cured” on his medical chart and his duty as best man for his best mate calling, he takes off for home to start getting his old life back.

Trouble is, while the good doctor cured his cancer, she seems to have inflicted him with something else—desire he just can’t shake.

Rob Thornton can be called many things: gorgeous, adventurer, daredevil, risk taker, friend. The one name he doesn’t want is cancer survivor, although it is just as true as the rest. Diagnosed with a brain tumor, Rob goes to an alternative clinic, where Doctor Emily Knox does the impossible-she cures his cancer, but the bigger problem is that she also captures a bit of his heart.

Emily knew as long as Rob was her patient, she couldn’t act on the decidedly un-doctorly feelings Rob arouses in her, but once he is released from the clinic, she follows him to see if there is a chance for a future with him. Can Rob accept that he is a changed man? Can Emily break down Rob’s wall of denial and convince him to acknowledge what he’s been through and move on with the rest of his life? Or will Rob lose his chance at love with Emily by refusing to face his fears head on?

Dare Me is Lexxie Couper’s long awaited follow up to Triple Dare, Joseph, Rob and Anna’s story. In fact, the chemical composition and characteristics of each murmur and emphasized the difficulty of diagnosis in this canadian levitra online setting. The characters in this are just as compelling and intriguing, and the story is filled with a myriad of emotions that bring both laughter and tears in equal measure. I enjoyed watching these two people come to terms with their feelings for each other after being so closely involved with each other during Rob’s illness.

Emily Knox is smart, talented and totally dedicated to her patients. But she is afraid she might cross the line with Rob, because he makes her feel things no other man ever has. I like that she remained professional, and didn’t give in to temptation while she was Rob’s doctor. And I love that, once he is considered cured, she follows him to see if they can have a future together. It was great when she challenged Rob, telling him if he couldn’t accept his new life, they couldn’t be together.

Rob Thornton is strong, handsome and determined to get on with his life. He has plans to take up where he left off, taking risks and finding new challenges. He tries to deny that he’s changed, but inside he has doubts that his life will ever be the same. I loved watching as Rob finally began to grow up and realize that, although changed, his life could still be as full and exciting, especially with Emily by his side.

This is a story of growing up and learning to adjust to unexpected changes in your life. Rob was hesitant to face his fear, thinking it made him weak, but learned that wasn’t true. It is also a scorching hot love story, and as hot as it is, there is a sweet tenderness here as well. Lexxie Couper has managed to bring two strong characters together, creating a couple that can face anything life throws at them.

I recommend this for anyone wanting to see that love can help to overcome obstacles, especially those we erect for ourselves. But keep the fan on high, keep the ice close, and the tissues at hand.

He Is Their Judge…

In death, they are purified. Holding his victims under water, he washes away their sins as they struggle for their last breath. Then he stakes their bodies to the ground, exposing them for what they really are. Witches, sent to tempt and to corrupt…

Jury…

No one knows about defense attorney Charlotte Wellington’s murdered sister, or about her childhood spent with the carnival that’s just arrived in town. For Charlotte, what’s past is past. But others don’t agree. And as a madman’s body count rises, she and Detective Daniel Rokov are drawn into a mission that’s become terrifyingly personal…

And Executioner

At last, she is within his reach. All his victims deserve their fate, but her guilt is greatest. And with every scream, he will make her see what it means to suffer and repent—before she dies…

She makes him crave dark, evil passion. She must be a witch. The “voice” whispers, she’ll steal his soul. He must kill, but first he must purify her.

Better go lock the doors, close the blinds, and turn on the night lights. Before She Dies is hard to put down once started and if night comes, one surely wants to be locked in safe and secure.

The undercurrent of chilling, terrifying violence threatens to suck Charlotte Wellington and Sooner Tate under as each works to make a life outside the hocus-pocus of Madame Divine’s carnival tent—a place Grady Tate had demanded they work.

Charlotte Wellington, a hard-edged defense attorney made it to where she is with determination, hard work, and hard lessons learned from Grady Tate. Her colleagues believe her to be a trust-fund baby—she acts the part. She guards her secrets well—past and present. Her newest secret is having sex with the intense detective Daniel Rokov—strictly for sexual gratification with no strings attached. Even after eighteen years, Charlotte’s life as a carnie still influences and shadows her. She is still haunted by memories of her dead sister Mariah; the baby Sooner; her own dead mother who had come to believe she was truly psychic; and the alcoholic, dyed-in-the-wool carnie Grady Tate. When the carnival comes to town, Sooner and Grady Tate storm back into Charlotte’s life big time.

Old ties that still bind tangle them all in the snare of a killer that believes his mission in life is to trap, purity, and then kill “witches”. This character chills the blood. WOW!

Detective Rokov and his colleagues, with skill, dedication, and tenacity, work the case of the vicious killer who is unspeakably cruel to his victims. Detective Rokov can be as hard-edged as Charlotte is when the need arises, but he is also gentle with giving bad news to victim’s families, respected by his coworkers, and truly caring with his own family—particularly with his grandmother. She’s a sweetheart.

The secondary characters, many as complex and memorable as the primary characters, make Before She Dies a gripping story. Grady Tate has as many layers as an onion. As the layers are peeled away, the reader sees not only his flaws and saving graces but also sees how Charlotte and Sooner came to have their hang-ups.

Sooner who, at eighteen, is determined to spread her wings, fly away from the carnival, and make her way in the world, stirs up a hornet’s nest. Secrets, fears, hatreds, and horrific tortures boil to the surface as author Mary Burton, with subtle clues and foreshadowing, weaves the antagonist into the plot as she continues to weave in the “not-to-be-denied” love that claims Charlotte and Detective Rokov for its very own. However, the multi-layered, memorable characters, the complex plot, and spine-tingling horror are so engrossing; it is easy to overlook the subtleties. Who the antagonist is may be a real surprise.

Ms. Burton’s amazing ability to weave together a tapestry of a tale that keeps one turning pages with bated breath is phenomenal.

Raylan believed himself unworthy of love until he met Chase. Chase brought out Raylan’s natural need to control and the power to force submission. But time and distance make having a relationship hard. Can Raylan prove to Chase they have what it takes for love to last through this Christmas and every other Christmas for the rest of their lives?

Chase found the muse for his songs in Raylan. Each time they touch, kiss, make love, music fills his soul. But working odd gigs to make ends meet while Raylan photographs rock and roll royalty isn’t beneficial to Chase’s creativity. Can he convince Raylan they’re better off together than apart?

Christmas: a time for love and togetherness. That is what Chase wants with Raylan, but what he has is back to back gigs playing with the band, fending off advances from bandmate Dave, and lonely nights. Raylan is his inspiration, and Chase hasn’t written a decent song since Raylan left for New York six weeks ago.

Now, it’s Christmas Eve, Raylan is back in town, and Chase can’t wait to see him. Raylan makes plans to meet Chase for a drink before they head home, but they have things they need to discuss. The past keeps intruding on their togetherness, and when Chase arrives, one of Raylan’s exes is there. Then there are the strange and anonymous phone calls Chase has been getting, asking about their relationship. All these things are starting to create doubts in both mens’ minds, doubts they need to lay to rest once and for all. Can they get to the heart of the matter, and just have faith in each other? Can these two dismiss the past and move forward for a happy ever after?

Megan Slayer takes us back to Ohio, and to the trials and tribulations of early days and long distance relationships. I love her small town stories, and this is a wonderful visit to Kenton, Ohio for the holidays. The characters, even the secondary ones, and strong and many faceted, with emotions that run high and all over the spectrum.

Chase is the gorgeous musician, writing songs that show the world his softer side. He has a big dose of insecurity in him, and watching him on this roller coaster ride was really fantastic. He is loyal and honest, and still getting used to being in this relationship. I like Chase, with his highs and lows, and his fears all out there in the open for all to see.

Raylan is the more serious of the couple, but still has his own share of insecurity. All he knows for sure is that he wants to be with Chase and no one else.I liked that he was ready to stand up to the ghosts, and people, from his past to defend what he feels for Chase, and I loved his strength and desire for the man he loves.

Chase and Raylan are great together, but they are also major ‘drama queens’ where their emotions are involved. This is the story of a new relationship, and the pitfalls that can come between two people in love if they aren’t careful. I really enjoyed the little things these two did for each other, and there is one big surprise Raylan has for Chase that I don’t want to reveal here. But it is the high point of the story, that one perfect moment when you just know these two have something real and beautiful between them.

I recommend this to those who love happy ever after, but one warning: tissues and ice in equal measures are needed for this one.

Finally, the Warrior Queen yields the Specter of Hope. Will she blanket all of humankind in darkness destroying the world of magic? Or free the humans of creatures from nightmares and restore the world of magic to its splendor? She must see through trickery, trust in what she fears the most, and rely on those closest to her to succeed.

Crenshaw, Taraly, Sancha, Jalie, and Taigo continue their quest through the land of the dead, the barren salt plains, fight endless battles for what they believe in. Only have they placed their belief in the correct Warrior Queen?

There are two sides to the mirror, light and dark. Who will represent each side?

Ms. Romaney wastes no time getting the action started in this exciting installment of the Night of the Gryphon series. The Warrior Queen picks up right at the moment The Hollow King ended. Readers wanting to enjoy The Warrior Queen to it’s fullest should read The Hollow King first.

As Taraly, Taigo, Crenshaw, Sancha, and Jalie continue on the quest for the Scepter of Hope, it becomes apparent the five individuals are still not working as a unit. Taraly is still unsure of her feelings for Taigo. Sancha loves Jalie, but knows that she isn’t good for him or the quest. Even more troubling, Jalie and Taigo have some skeletons in their closets that seriously call their motivations and loyalty into question. I had hoped to watch these budding romances continue to bloom in this story. Unfortunately, I have a feeling these fragile romances might not stand the test of time. However, the romantic in me is still holding out hope for some sort of happy ending.

Ms. Romaney is very good at filling her stories with twists and turns to me on my toes. When the first book ended, I at least thought I knew who was going to be on the side of light and who was going to be on the side of dark. As this story progressed, it became increasingly clear not everything is so easily divided. Ms. Romaney reveals two warrior queens and two hollow kings, each representing the light or the dark. Also, several new minor characters were introduced. In addition, it greatly affects your tadalafil pills heart and lungs. Check out if they have license and experience to human, and it’s beneficial for the body and ED medicine when twisting its half-life http://valsonindia.com/about-us/ generico viagra on line period and disrupting natural metabolic processes. Taking low dose pill may let you know whether it is good for you or not. levitra 60 mg Each of those characters were working to ensure their candidate for warrior queen or hollow king succeeded. The meddling of these other characters is a bit much at times, but they do move the plot along as well as reveal some interesting background information concerning the main characters.

I must mention that I have one small issue with the story. There are several typos sprinkled throughout the book. For example “pass” was used instead of “past”, etc. As I said, this was a minor issue in an otherwise excellent story.

As much as I like the twists and turns of the plot, the characters are what really make this book special. What sets Ms. Romaney’s characters apart and gives them great depth is the fact that very few of them are purely good or evil. They all have the capacity to choose the light or the dark. This is especially apparent in the character of Ovezara, an evil sorceress. Her entire childhood was spent being abused and groomed to do evil, but every now and then a little light shines in her. This causes her a great deal of distress because she isn’t sure what to do with the light. Will she nurture it or crush it?

Crenshaw is another character who really came into his own in this book. When I first encountered him in The Hollow King, Crenshaw had one thing on his mind, killing Ovezara. He also had a pretty low self esteem and didn’t believe that he was capable of much. As the story progresses, Crenshaw slowly begins to realize the strength of the light within him. Crenshaw is also a great source of humor in the book. I especially enjoy his interactions with his mother. His sense of humor is certainly a bit dark at times, but it is always entertaining and never failed to make me smile.

I absolutely enjoyed reading The Warrior Queen, but I must warn readers, like the first book, The Warrior Queen ends at a crucial moment sure to leave readers wanting more. The Warrior Queen is an excellent addition to the Night of the Gryphon series, and I’m already looking forward to the next book. Readers looking for a great fantasy laced with romance should certainly give this book a try.

INTERVIEW: JANE BECKENHAM

Long and Short Reviews is pleased to welcome Jane Beckenham, a “down under” author coming to us from New Zealand. Her latest book Secrets and Seductions is available in digital form from Samhain Publishing. It is also scheduled to be released in print this year as well.

“It’s an emotional journey of grief and desperation and secrets,” Jane said.

Jane told me that she started writing about twelve years ago, after meeting writers online in an interior design forum—not writing related at all.

“I’m mad keen on it and we were chatting away and the subject of books came up and the rest… well that’s history,” she said with a laugh. “But I have always read, loved reading romance and I suppose like all would be writers I thought ‘I can do that’. Ha ha ha, little did I know!”

I asked Jane if she ever suffered from writer’s block.

“Oh, yes, at times, and at times I think what I’m writing is a whole load of crap,” she admitted. “Anyway, one thing that works for me is to shut my eyes and type whatever comes into my head, don’t worry about spelling, typos, zilch, just write free form. Always works and I always come up with an intriguing line I want to follow.”

Jane told me she couldn’t pick just one favorite, because she likes to read in different genres, so she picked three:

~For historical fiction, she likes Sophia James, who writes for M&B Historicals—”mainly because she has a beautiful writing style, and I love her heroes,” Jane said. “They are so flawed (aren’t all men?)”

~Jane discovered Tess Gerritsen after Tess visited the RWNZ conference. “It’s a totally new genre for me, but such an easy writing style that I really enjoyed it.”

~Sandra Hill for her humor, hunky men, and strong-willed women.

For Jane, her characters and an opening scene usually come first—then names. Once she has those elements lined up, she has to figure out where to go from there. She described herself as “a bit of a pantser with a plotter’s twist (usually my arm behind my back to make me pre-plot more!)” She does like to come up with little scenes, and then work them into the story. Her characters also have the tendency to surprise her along the way and teach her much she didn’t already know.

“Are you working on anything at the present you’d like to share with us?” I asked her.

“I’ve just done a major rework of a contemporary (waiting to hear if the publisher likes it!!!!), plus I did Nano last year, so I’ve got to edit that little gem. I’m intending to write two historical novellas this year, along with Abbey MacInnis, in a four book anthology. Got a partial and full out, and like all writers – I’m waiting to hear.”

When it comes to titles, Jane told me that “they really honestly just pop into my head, usually before I’ve even started the book, or in the first few chapters. Seems to work.”

I asked her to describe her writing space.

“Oh, please don’t look. We moved house nearly 9 months ago and my office is a WIP at the moment. I’ve just bought new book cases and a desk – love that tax deductable thing, and I’m currently creating an ‘art’ wall – all types of hearts I’ve collected over a few years. Cane, mosaic, willow, wire and embroidered. My office is a bit dark, need some more lighting, but the other day I was writing and looked out the window at a monarch butterfly going past. Doesn’t get any better than that. “

The hardest part of writing her book was the interruptions.

“I am incredibly determined and dedicated,” she said, her face blushing, “but over the last year my health has deteriorated and I’m now waiting to go into hospital for surgery. But I still plonk my butt on the chair every day and write. Each book is hard in its own way, a character, a scene, something not working. Then, there are the writer’s insecurities. They play havoc with confidence!”

Jane writes full time now so usually she works between 9 AM and 1 PM, then an hour or so at night.

“I would say I’ve slacked off a tad over the last year,” she told me. “I used to write well into the night before, but age is catching up with me.”

She loves interior design, so when she’s not writing she can often be found reading a decorating magazine. She also admitted, “I’m addicted to DIY decorating blogs. They are such a time waster.”

On a personal note, Jane has a Jack Russell/Springer spaniel named Bingo. “He’s my baby,” she told me.

“Do you hate how you look in pictures?” I asked.

“Oh, God yes. I am sure it’s trick photography – that I’m at least 5 inches taller and about 30lbs slimmer,” she said. “I’m sure I am… at least I wish I was. The other day I had a photo taken for a Valentine’s Day article in our national newspaper. I asked if the photographer could use Photoshop – she wasn’t allowed to – so not fair!”

A saying she uses a lot is “let’s roll.”

“And…two years ago we were in the USA for a family holiday,” she told me. “My cousin who lives in Sacramento had this fun button thingy you pushed – it’s said ‘That was easy’ from the Staples Centre in LA so it became a family saying while we were driving on the wrong side of the road – we drive on the left – you drive on the right! Scary experience, believe me.”

GUEST BLOG: JANE TOOMBS

I used to love winter–sledding, skiing, snowshoeing in the woods, ice skating–lots of fun.. Then I got old and creaky and winter is just a matter of being careful not to slip and fall on slippery spots. Except that to look out and see snow falling is still a thrill. It’s like magic how snow alters and changes the world from mundane to beautiful. If I had to plow the driveway or shovel the walk, maybe I wouldn’t feel this way–who knows?

Snow machines were not a part of my younger world because they didn‘t yet exist. But they‘re here now, with all the trails for them and the noise and the danger of your car hitting one when they cross the road to follow a trail… Yes, the trails run through the deep woods, but what are your chances of seeing a deer or hearing a chickadee? Snowshoes make no noise and you see and hear lots of wildlife.

I’m afraid I get a bit jaundiced when I go downtown and see all the snowmobiles lined up by the bars. Which accounts for why almost every serious snowmobile accident I hear about involves alcohol. Progress isn’t always great. So you can drink and drive a snowmobile without penalty–unless you consider death a penalty. Ah, but I don‘t mean to rant.

I‘m actually writing a winter-set story with snowmobiles used by the bad guys to threaten those in a snowbound house in the deep woods. The Viking is my snowmobile expert as he‘s used one everywhere from the Sierras to joyriding on the ice of the lower Michigan inland lakes.

I’ve not finished with that book yet, but I do have one coming out this month that has nothing to do with snow–Terror From Before, the third book in my DANGEROUS DARKNESS SERIES from Red Rose Publishing. Each book in this series stands on its own, though the four men in the series were a Special Op group who’ve returned to civilian like believing their leader was killed. Since he’s the hero of the fourth book, Stranger On The Shore, obviously he’s alive–but really strange.
