Falsely accused of the murder of her best friend, Kayla Jenkins is on the run for her life. She ends up lost in dark, snowy woods off some backcountry road in the middle of nowhere. Frightened and colder than she’s ever been in her life, she almost thinks she’s hallucinating when a warrior on a white steed saves her.

In all his years as the sheriff of Peak Town, Colorado, Jake Ryder has never come across a half-frozen woman alone in the woods. She’s terrified…and lying to him, yet something about her calls to him on a primal level.

Even with her trust of law enforcement lower than the harsh temperature, Kayla finds it difficult to keep her secrets hidden from the kind and far too handsome sheriff. But as her faith in Ryder grows, she not only risks the real murderer finding her, but losing the one thing she has searched for her whole life and only just found…love.

“My name is Jake Ryder, but most folks call me Ryder.” When she didn’t return the introduction, he continued. “Can I ask how you came to be all the way out here in the middle of the night?”

Giving a guarded glance from the horse back to him, she simply said, “Got lost.”

And they say women were chatty. Hell, he had a pet parrot as a kid that talked more than this woman. Not a problem. As sheriff, he was used to interrogating uncooperative suspects. Not that she was a suspect, yet.

“Got lost…” He looked her over. Big, red, winter coat, long dark slacks and—were those high heels? “…shopping?”

Honestly, who the hell wears heels in the woods?

She scowled, wrapping her arms around herself. “My car ran off the road. I—I got out to find help. Wandered off the road and got lost.”

Something about her story smelled like Wind Chaser’s stall after feeding time. “Why didn’t you call Triple A?”

Her gaze darted to the side. “Cell died.”

Yeah, and I’m the King of England.

“You need a ride back to your car?”

Her eyes widened. “On that thing?”

“Her name is Wind Chaser, and yes. Did you think I had a car hidden in the trees?”

Her jaw clenched at his sarcasm. Well, excuse him. It was dark, cold, and the last thing he wanted to do was be out here trying to pull a story out of Ms. Lying-Crazy-Lady.

For Elizabeth Hayworth, tiny Peak Town, Colorado is a far cry from her life in L.A., but working at her best friend’s cupcake shop makes her think things are pretty darn good. Until she’s forced to spend time with said best friend’s grumpy future brother-in-law.

Dade Denning takes the hard work of running a horse ranch seriously. What he can’t take seriously is his future sister-in-law’s flighty best friend. Lizzy is everything he’s not—flirty, outgoing, and loud. The woman just rubs him the wrong way. So why does he fantasize about rubbing her the right way?

When circumstances force the two together, sparks fly and passion ignites. But sometimes the wildest love can burn too bright and the consequences can leave a lasting impression.

“You, sir, have what we call stickbuttitis.”

He crossed his arms over his chest and glared down. “That’s not a real condition, or even a real word.”

Crimson red lips tipped up in a teasing smile. “Oh yes, it is. It means you have a stick up your butt.” Wouldn’t be the first time someone told him that. “I’m afraid we are going to have to operate,” she added, affecting a pouty frown.

Dade heaved a sigh of frustration. “What are you doing here, Elizabeth?”

“Maggie invited me to dinner.”

Great. His night just got ten times worse. Not only did he have this jerkoff suing him to think about, now he had to spend an entire night trying to be nice to a woman he both wanted to strangle and take to bed.

“Fantastic.”

“See, there’s that stick again.”

He felt a massive headache coming on.

“Oooh, I can also see you have deathglareosis. A very tragic condition. Thankfully, not fatal.”

“Any chance I’m contagious?”

Gray eyes brightened, and she smiled widely.

“Possible, but thankfully for me, I’ve had all my vaccinations.”

“Great.”

She walked past him, heading into the house. He watched her go. Trying not to notice the sexy sway in her hips or how perfectly the round cheeks of her ass would fit in his hands.

Tried and failed. Dammit.

Tonight was going to suck.

Summertime Garden Pasta Salad

My absolute favorite summertime dish is my Garden Pasta Salad. I found the recipe in an old cookbook of my mother’s and tweaked it over the years. I bring it to every summer picnic I attend. Adults and kids alike gobble up this dish, coming back for seconds, even thirds. Nothing says summer quite like eating veggies fresh from your garden. If you don’t have a garden, your local farmers market is always a great place for fresh produce or your local grocery store.

Ingredients:

1 box of spiral noodles
1 bin of cherry tomatoes sliced in half
1 cucumber pealed and diced
1 bunch of green onions chopped
6-8 baby sweet peppers diced
1 Avocado chopped
1 can of kidney beans drained and rinsed
1 can of sliced olives
½ cup of Italian dressing
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
½ teaspoon of celery salt
Salt and pepper to taste
Shredded Parmesan cheese

Cook the noodles and rinse with cold water. In a large bowl combine all the ingredients. It’s that easy!

This recipe is so tasty and versatile. I use gluten free noodles when my celiac friends and family come over (make sure any dressing you use is gluten free as well). Experiment with different veggies and spices. The possibilities are endless. You can add or subtract veggies biased on your taste or what’s in season. This pasta dish is so yummy it’s guaranteed to be a hit at your next picnic and the vegetables make it a healthy summertime meal!
