All Rath wants is a quiet, peaceful life. Unfortunately, his father brings him too much trouble—and too many debts to pay—for that to ever be possible. When the local crime lord drags Rath out of bed and tells him he has three days to pay his father’s latest debt, Rath doesn’t know what to do. There’s no way to come up with so much money in so little time.

Then a friend poses an idea just ridiculous enough to work: enter the Tournament of Losers, where every seventy-five years, peasants compete for the chance to marry into the noble and royal houses. All competitors are given a stipend to live on for the duration of the tournament—funds enough to cover his father’s debt.

All he has to do is win the first few rounds, collect his stipend, and then it’s back to trying to live a quiet life…

Forced into a tournament he can’t win but also can’t afford to lose.

Set during a time and place where the class system is firmly in place, Tournament of Losers is a very clever and original concept for a story. The main character, Rath, caught my attention immediately. He’s in the lowest of the classes and is self-aware enough to know he’s where he’ll be until he dies, so he lives one day, one job at a time and tries to stay out of trouble. Easier said than done when his father is so worthless more than one person suggests he’s literally worth more dead than alive.

His father’s latest scheme has Rath facing a three day deadline to acquire an astronomical amount of money or die. Thus the Tournament of Losers. If he can survive to the second round he’ll have the money he needs. If. If he could win…but the chances of that are so far south of slim to none, he won’t even consider it. He’d need more than Fate on his side. But what if he had something stronger than Fate in his corner? What if he had love?

This story is a romance at its basic plot. I wondered who would be the other half of the equation and how Rath would find time for a relationship with everything else going on. I liked how the author works it out and seeing who it would most likely be before it was confirmed, it led me to start speculating about how this story might turn out. Rath seems to be an equal opportunity whore (his word) so it could have been either a man or a woman. No matter the outcome of the tournament, falling for Tress was clearly going to change his life. I liked Tress a lot so, I was totally okay with that.

I was intrigued when I realized that someone or maybe a group of someones didn’t want Rath to do well, or even be in, the tournament. But who and why?

Since Rath is from the rougher, dirtier side of town, the story has a gritty feel to it but isn’t terribly dark. He has a cynical sense of humor and the majority of the Low City people I met seem to genuinely like him. I think it’s because even though he has to take care of himself the best way he knows how, he looks out for those who have even less and treats his fellow Low City dweller with respect…or at least the ones who deserve it.

I found it interesting to watch Rath’s growth in this story. He starts out as a likable character but he still had room to improve and remember his dreams to be more than the class he was born into. If I had to have a single critique about the book, it’s that the ending just ends. I mean it ended the way I figured it would but I think it would have been nice to have had an epilogue to show how Rath’s life changed after the tournament and how he changed the perception of the royal family and those who dwelt in High City. It just seemed that the differences made in class and how people were treated was so important to Rath, I could clearly see him being the one to cause change.

The story reads at a smooth pace. Not so fast that I got lost and not so slow that I felt the need to skip to dialogue. Readers who enjoy a good MM fantasy should give this one a read. There isn’t much in the way of descriptive sex but there is loads of romance.

Lady Catherine (Kitty) has a problem. She is fascinated by Lord Strathern, a man who is known for his way with women. Kitty decides to gain experience by asking one of the grooms to teach her how to kiss. She gets more than she bargained for. Her sister guesses what’s going on – but not with who – and decides to use the knowledge to her own advantage.

Hugh the groom knows he shouldn’t help Kitty, but he can’t resist the temptation. Each time he resolves not to meet her again, but he is unable to keep away.

Kitty is a naive young lady, typical of the regency period, and Hugh is a rugged, handsome groom who tempts her and is tempted by her in return.

At times this book is amusing, at others poignant. The romance seems to head in the expected direction, but although I guessed the end result, I couldn’t work out how the author was going to solve the problems and the conflict. This kept me reading and I wasn’t disappointed at the resolution. A nicely written story with hooks to keep me interested so I had to find out what was going to happen next.

When the costs are added up, will love land in the black?

Mark Nugent has spent his life in the closet—at least, the small part of it he hasn’t spent in the office. Divorced when he could no longer deny his sexuality, he’s sworn off his workaholic ways and moved to Shamwell with his headstrong teen daughter to give her a stable home environment.

His resolve to put his love life on hold is severely tested when he joins a local organization and meets a lively yet intense young man who tempts him closer to the closet threshold.

Patrick Owen is an out-and-proud charity worker with strong principles—and a newly discovered weakness for an older man. One snag: Mark is adamant he’s not coming out to his daughter, and Patrick will be damned if he’s going to start a relationship with a lie.

Beside that, millions men and women endure concealed pancreatic insufficiency with digestive complications like gas, bloating, indigestion, constipation or diarrhea, fatty food buying cialis in spain intolerance, etc. Men taking cialis australia this medication can take it 1 hour before sexual activity. And when Mark’s former career as a tax advisor clashes with Patrick’s social conscience, it could be the one stumbling block they can’t get past.

Coming out won’t be easy but for an “old bloke” like Mark, it may just be his first chance to truly live.

This book is about a man learning to be honest about who he is and embracing the opportunity to love like he never thought possible. It’s a very honest story. It may me feel for Mark and his daughter’s relationship as well as Mark and Patrick’s potential relationship.

Mark’s relationship with his daughter is pretty funny. I guess I can laugh at it because I can relate. Teenagers are pretty much the same, whichever side of the pond they happen to reside in. Overall, though, I actually did like Fen’s character. She was a typical teen, trying to figure out who she was and worrying about her parents at the same time. Loving them and hating them, at the same time. In the end, she totally won me over because she supported her dad’s decision to be himself.

I liked Patrick as well and wanted to see him teach Mark to how to love himself. With a fourteen year age difference, it was interesting to watch them each learn and grow.

The secondary characters in this book are so much fun. Had to love the Spartans and Mark’s ex-PA, David, is all kinds of fun. I want him to find someone. That would be a fun book to read.

I love to hear the British accent on TV and in movies but this was the first book I’ve ever read where the cockney slang was so thick, I think I fell in love with it a little more.

This is a book for readers who want a love story and not just a lust story. There isn’t much sex because, well, there’s a lot of misunderstanding and interruptions. They try but, bless ’em, timing really is everything sometimes.

I know there are other books in the Shamwell series and I’m pretty sure I met some of the H/h from those stories. I plan to take a trip back to the village as soon as possible and hope to catch up with Mark, Patrick and Fen. Families are more than the people you born to.

The time of the Unity has ended. Now, the realm of man is stranded between Paradise and Purgatory. The Valkyrie and Reaper battle over the fate of all who pass from the land of the living and into the afterlife.

Eight mortal spirits from vastly different worlds tread the same, inevitable path toward their last, crucial decision. Within them all exists the defining conflict every man must face—to look upon the end of their life with glory and honor, or to give credence to their baser longings, calling the Reaper to their own demise.

In this rich, harrowing tale of pride, deceit, honor, vengeance, and redemption, each individual must battle their inner turmoil, facing the sacrifices they have made before their unavoidable end in the land of the living.

But their last day in life is also their first day of death amidst the terrors of the underworld. Lord Master Death wants them all…and the real battle has only just begun.

This book is comprised of several short stories from various time periods and several locations—but they all have one common denominator. At the end, one of the party will die and the Reaper will come for him/her.

The individual stories are all very well told. As with any collection, there were some I preferred above others, but there were none I didn’t like. Because of the nature of the stories, you didn’t really get deeply into any one characters mind—instead you are treated to an overview of what’s going on as Mr. Pere tells his stories.

This is a book that would particularly work well as a SyFy television series… with each story serving as an episode and culminating with the Epilogue which works to tie everything together for the coming up season. It ends in a way that lets you know there definitely is a next season coming up!

It will be interesting to see where Mr. Pere takes this tale. I’m intrigued and will definitely be reading the next one. Good job, sir—you have a new fan.

Good thing she’s got March to show her the ropes. And the guns. And the knives.

The buttoned-up Island is soon having a blast racing from Paris to Tokyo following the clues in her mother’s will, and for the first time, she’s ready to get close to someone. But falling for a hit man may be the very definition of loving dangerously.…

Some very dangerous people think Island knows more than she’s telling.

Island’s life has never been particularly exciting. She has a good job, a great friend, and a serious addiction to romance novels. Everything changes when March blows into her life. March is probably the most unique hit man I’ve encountered in a book. His obsessive need for cleanliness and order is both entertaining and sad at times. While March can be truly terrifying, he is definitely the lesser evil when compared to the other hit man after Island. Unfortunately, Island learns this the hard way. Fortunately, March has no intention of abandoning Island until he’s fulfilled his contract. As March and Island work at unraveling her mother’s secrets, the more Island realizes she didn’t know her mother at all. Island slowly begins to develop feelings for March, but he has secrets too. Will Island ever be able to fully trust anyone?

Island and March are certainly an odd team. March’s rigid standards definitely clash with Island’s more relaxed approach. I enjoyed watching her push his buttons, and a scene involving a stack of road maps was particularly entertaining. As much as I enjoyed following March and Island on their adventures, I must admit I was a little confused by Island’s developing attraction to March. When I finished reading, I didn’t feel as if I really knew much about him. He is very reserved and rarely ever talks about anything personal. I could tell at times that he wanted to say and do more, but just wasn’t capable or ready to take that step. I think that Island could be very good for March if he would let her in. However, March doesn’t think he is good for Island, and I agree. His life is very dangerous, and unless he makes some serious changes, I don’t see a future for March and Island. While I didn’t expect any passionate declarations of love, I had hoped that the end of the story would have been a bit happier. However, I do get the sense that there is still hope for this odd couple.

Ms. Monk’s writing style well paced and easy to read. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter were always a source of entertainment. I found that as I read, I would just glance at the next quote and then find myself hooked into reading another chapter.

Reading Spotless was certainly a wild ride. I never knew what mess Island would find herself in next, and I look forward to reading more about Island and her adventures in the sequel.

Gunnolf was left for dead when he was young as he went on one of his kin’s raids, but finds his way to the Highlands and a home with the MacNeill Clan. The clan’s seer warns him he must rescue a woman in need, only he rescues the wrong woman. Yet, Brina is in need. Her father, wounded in battle by Gunnolf’s own kind, must oust the tyrant who has taken his place if he is to rule. Yet he needs Gunnolf’s help, but Gunnolf learns Brina’s father had killed Gunnolf’s brother. Brina is torn between hating the Viking who has rescued her, and knowing that his kin had killed her grandfather in an age old tale of fighting between their people, and loving the man who took her under his protection, and the wolf cub she insisted on rescuing. Now, Gunnolf must make a choice: wed the lass as her father has insisted and restore her father’s position as chief of his clan when he’s not sure her father is trustworthy, hoping he can obtain a peace between his people and hers, or leave well enough alone and stay with the MacNeill Clan, his family for the past ten years. The problem is one sweet Highland lass that makes him want a woman – this woman – to warm his bed and have his bairns and to protect and cherish, when having a wife was the furthest notion from his mind… until one prediction changed his whole life

Gunnolf’s story has been a long time coming. He’s been a favorite of mine just because for almost all of the series, all standalones, he’s been the loyal sidekick, the trusted friend and always had the makings of a hero. In The Viking’s Highland Lass he finally gets his chance, but he’s got to work for it. How? By resisting his urges and behave like a gentleman. I enjoyed his discomfort because Brina is a significant challenge to his composure.
The cause and the age may be anything of misuse of that organ, aging dysfunctions, and the problem of premature ejaculation viagra 50mg among others. The problem of impotence is no longer being an issue buy generic levitra view that of male impotence. Even buy tadalafil from india in difficult situations such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis.
I liked the fact that the seduction of Brina occurred by forced restraint. Gunnolf’s control, even though the heroine could tell it cost him, not only impressed her but it laid the foundation of trust. That’s important for any relationship, but because Brina is used to men controlling her, not taking into account her feelings or wishes, trust does not come easy. I enjoyed watching her flower under Gunnolf’s care.

The conflict is typical for the time period – father dictates who his daughter will marry and the daughter knows she’s going to be in a world of hurt if it comes to pass. Drastic measures needs be taken and Brina doesn’t waste any time in escaping. Cue the start of her adventure.

The villain is an easy spot. He’s just enough on the scene to make it rough and threatening to the heroine, and by association, Gunnolf. However, he’s not present enough to take away from the budding romance between the hero and heroine. He’s a great reason to throw them together and an incentive to propel the movement of the plot.

The paranormal aspect comes from Gunnolf’s grandmother and a secondary character named Wynne. And, although Wynne is a more significant character than Brina or anyone could have dreamed, her role in this novel didn’t wow me. Her talent certainly is formidable and key in plot movement, I’ll grant you that. However, at one point she gives specific advice about how the talent to foresee can’t be forced and it’s ambiguous at best, whereas her talent reads like a controlled remote viewing camera with sound. It’s too convenient and a little unbelievable.

What was really written well were the passionate moments between Brina and Gunnolf. I enjoyed how he seduced her and how she blossomed under his tutelage. I also liked how some of the characters from past books showed up to help out. Again, their inclusion does not mean that a new reader will get lost. Not at all. They support and assist the hero and heroine where it counts and behaved as perfect secondary characters should.

The Viking’s Highland Lass is everything I hoped for when it comes to an HEA for Gunnolf. He deserved a special lass to fall in love with and Brina is perfect for him. I really enjoyed myself and can easily recommend this book. It’s a wonderful romance and I’m a happy reader.

Mystery… Pacific Northwest setting, two things that I always feel pair perfectly together. They made great partners in this debut novel by Washington State resident, Martha Crites.

It’s a first person narration and the author obviously used much of her experience working in the mental health field to bring lead character, Grace, to life. Grace also works in that field so everything about her daily work life seemed so real. I also like the way she weaved in one of her patients into the mystery which seemed natural and not done just for the sake of the plot.

The novel starts with great suspense with a murder and sets in motion this fast paced whodunit. All the characters were well drawn, their motives and agenda well covered so it kept you guessing. The dialogue was also engaging.

The chapters are short which is often a big plus when you’re turning the pages to figure out if you’re right about a hunch or not.

And let’s not forget the setting. I don’t think this story could have been set anywhere else. It’s rainy, sometimes snowy; it’s dark and very atmospheric which is why I always love to read mysteries set in these parts. The author made me feel like I was there.

I don’t know if Ms. Crites has plans for writing more books using the lead character, but if she does I’ll be looking for them. If you like a good whodunit set in the Seattle area, I highly recommend this one.

The sex scenes were incredibly well done. The chemistry between Jordan and Aiden was perfect, and I wouldn’t have changed a single thing about it. Sometimes passionate moments can begin in a heartbeat. When they’re being acted out by people as sensuous and seductive as these characters, it makes for a hot tale that has to be read to be believed.

I would have liked to see a little more attention paid to the supernatural elements of the plot. While I liked the fact that the text allowed the audience to decide for ourselves what we thought had happened, it would have been nice to have a few more hints about what Ms. Holt thought was going on here as both of the possible explanations for Aiden and Jordan’s intensely erotic dreams would have worked equally well. I simply wanted a little more information about which one was more likely!

The ending left me wanting more. It tied up enough loose ends to make the final scene feel satisfactory, but it also made me flip to the final page of the book to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I really wanted to know what happened to the characters next. To me, that’s a great sign. While I don’t know i the author is planning to write a sequel to this, I’d sure like to read it if she does!

This is a different kind of ghost story.

The characters were enjoyable to read about but also had weird characteristic that brought interest to the story. Gwynn is going through all this but is being so secretive. Seth cooked through out the entire book but found it hard to express his feelings for Gwynn. Fenton, Gwynn’s co-worker and friend, I like his humor and I truly understand why he was a sucker for a free meal. Who can turn down good cooking? Dante was a weird funeral home guy that played his stereotype creepy part very well. Great characterization on the part of the author.

The story had my interest as in I wanted to know what would happen but it wasn’t one I couldn’t put down; more like I did a sigh when I saw I still had quite a bit left. I give the author praise in the details in letting the reader know the scenes and the visual view of the characters and also praise for storytelling but a minus for not telling the details of the story where it counted or needed details to give the story balance. Like for example how did Julian come to be? What brought him to Gwynneth and I never could understand what was it he or the shadows wanted. After reading the ending I felt cheated as a reader. Gwynn closed the port. Where are the details of how she closed the port? The author has giving minimum details of trips taken with Julian but then to close the book there is only telling and no action of how Gwynn ends all this fiasco. Don’t get me wrong this is an original plot for me and I was excited to read it but it didn’t keep the sizzle.

Another point that stands out is the translator translated Hannah’s diary but then call Gwynn back to tell her more. Was the diary a series? It just seemed out of place to call Gwynn a second time after he already translated the diary. Julian I couldn’t figure out; the shadows either. I was left at the end wondering what was the point or reason of Julian and the shadows.

The plot, set-up, the writing all were good and helped me finish the book but there was just too much left missing to give it a higher review score.

Struck is an original story that is well constructed, where the author displayed good writing skills and a talent for telling a good story. A creepy, alive story, it is that will have you looking over your shoulder and under your bed. This entertaining and vibrant story includes interesting characters as well as showcases many sweet and caring relationships.

Nick and Avery must find a way to let go of their pasts to secure a future, but if the man out for revenge has his way, they may not get the chance.

Home isn’t just where you hang your hat, it’s where you hang your heart.

Nick and Avery are good couple. She’s a little wishy-washy in the beginning about deciding if she wants to go after Nick or not. She decides “yes” and then talks herself out of it right up to the point where he reminds her why they are so good together. A truly combustible chemistry. It’s a good thing Nick is patient because her abundance of stubbornness and independence would be trying to any man, even Saint Nick.

I was curious about Avery’s time in Atlanta. Little hints along the way led me to believe she did more than attend medical school. It wasn’t just homesickness that sent her back to Warm Springs. I could tell that her personality was one that internalized problems. Interestingly enough, as much as she was determined to keep to herself, she was regularly annoyed when Nick withheld information. They had a lot to learn about communication and trust. It works out perfectly for an HEA but there were some rocky roads along the way.

I love a good “who done it?” so I was pleasantly surprised to see that the author didn’t give away the bad guy too quickly. And she gave me options. The blurb suggests that it’s someone Nick knows so I immediately started watching those closest to him. There were a couple of likely candidates. One would be disappointing, the other…devastating. It didn’t take long to eliminate the innocent one. The bad guy, though, wow! He truly had issues.

It was interesting to get to “meet” the bad guy first through his internal dialogue. I almost felt sorry for him, considering his circumstances and reasoning for his actions but in the end his anger and bitterness were just too destructive. He hurt people and intended to keep hurting people until someone would be forced to take him out. One tragedy that led to another.

This is a fast but smooth read. I haven’t read the others in the series but after meeting their respective heroes and heroines, I want to. I like the author’s voice and she has a good grasp on small southern towns and families.
