When Judith discovers a dead body in the kiln of her pottery store, she’s convinced it’s the work of her ex-husband in an attempt to cause her trouble. After discussing the incident with members of her Scrabble Club, Judith soon learns that her ex may be off the hook, and that sticks and stones may break bones, but words can definitely get you killed.

This is the second mystery I’ve read by Nancy Springer and like the first one, Silent End kept me entertained from start to finish.

This is a short read but the author did a great job throwing us into the action with the discovery of a body in a kiln. The dialogue is snappy, Judith, the main character, is part quirky, part resourceful business woman, and best of all, amateur sleuth.

I loved the way the story unfolded and how the clues were set out but yet still kept me guessing. If you enjoy mysteries but don’t have time for a full-length novel, Silent End is perfect for you.

Best friends make the best lovers? Indeed they do. There’s nothing more exciting than discovering that the person you already share everything with is the one you want sharing your bed.

Join us for ten tales of sexy and decadent discoveries as these gloriously hot men find all the love, lust and orgasmic delight they could ever want—closer than they expected.

Love can be a tricky bed partner. Sometimes it is hard to tell if you are falling into it or falling out of it. Especially when it sneaks up on you at the most unexpected time. This anthology took me on a journey of interesting affairs that were most certainly unexpected and welcomed.

Squeezable by Penelope Rivers

Squeezable was a very entertaining read that I went through quickly. Andy and Kevin had been friends for as long as they remembered. With a bond so close, the lines can get a bit blurry between friendship and more. I really enjoyed seeing these two create new lines and connectors within their relationship.

A Little Bendy by Erin M. Leaf

I have always been a strong believer that friends can make the best lovers. Josh and Ben discovered this when they decided to test the limits of the friendship. Now that Ben is newly single they have the perfect opportunity to find out if this theory is true. I really like the way they discovered their feelings for one another. The development felt natural, and even included a few uncomfortable moments when neither knew if they were really ready to jump in.

Being Stupid by Sean Michael

Henry and Parson both new they were gay; what they hadn’t known was that they may find what they need in each other. The fact that these two characters were comfortable with who they were made it easy for them to know what they wanted in and outside of the bedroom. Who would have thought that a barbecue to celebrates one’s independence may turn into an eternal romantic development that may never be broken.

Quench by Xondra Day

This story mixed things up a bit. Bryan has long believed he is the last survivor until Joel wanders back into his life. Joel’s family has been long gone, and he seeks solace in a familiar surrounding. I think the relationship development within the story is perfect. I really felt like I could connect with Bryan’s sense of loneliness and completely understood why he would be so excited to welcome anyone, especially the boy next door. I also found myself wondering what would be next for this couple, which is always a good thing.

Coming Home by K. Williams

Who doesn’t love a man in a uniform? I am not sure if it is the authority, the tailor of the uniform or what, but a uniform can make a man simply irresistible. Craig has been sporting his marine uniform for four years. Once he finally makes his way home to visit his family and friends he gets the chance to strip the uniform off for something more comfortable: a naked man. I love Craig and Toby’s story from the fact that they had a friendship no one seems to understand down to Craig being Toby’s true hero. My heart went out to Toby at times because he seemed to be a true outcast, and I was so happy that Craig could make him understand how much he was worth.

Between Marriage and an Octupus by Rebecca Brochu

Interesting story about two partners who find love. I have to say at the beginning I was puzzled by Dylan and Tyler’s relationship. The author says they were partners, so I was thinking relationship partner not work partner. Then I discovered the misunderstanding, which helped me to understand. Other than this, I love that these two men find solace in one another. They seem to be the only consistent in each other’s lives so it was good to see that they can really find themselves in each other’s arms.

Getting Wade by Shawn Lane

Getting Wade again shows the strength of friendship and how it can bud into a great romantic relationship. Though I have to question the timing of the development I was happy Neal and Wade can finally share their true feeling. I have to wonder if the timing was right because of Wade’s emotional state when dealing with a recent break up. In the end I know both men truly cared for one another and would continue to for a long time.

Gypsy Psychics Can’t Be Wrong by Giselle Renarde

This was the first story that incorporated a truly dynamic plot in this anthology. I love the added mystery surrounding the Gypsy and her visions. While Marty may not understand or believe that someone out there loves him he respects the Gypsy’s foresight. Sometimes love is truly found in the oddest places and it takes a tragedy for Marty to realize how much he has.

Jay’s Addiction by Chrissie Lee

Sam and Jay’s story touched me on a deep level. Sam has fought hard for his sobriety because he knows that his addiction almost cost him his life. I was in awe about how Jay also discovered his personality flaws when dealing with Sam’s addiction. The personal and romantic development go hand and hand. I could read this story over and over again.

Diamond: The Men of Rock Candy by Alex Bowman

Cass and Damon’s story is my favorite on within the anthology. I love the buildup of emotions Cass feels when having to watch Damon dance for others. Having to watch them get to touch the man he wants. This got my adrenaline flowing to the point where I felt like I was leaning against the wall watching with Cass. It helped to lead up to an explosive encounter that is bound to leave a lasting impression.

All-in-all I really enjoyed these stories and the interesting characters they introduced me too. I would say read this anthology if you want to experience the magic associated with finding love in not necessary the most obvious place, but when and where it I is needed most.

Ambushed as he approaches an English estate, Lord Cort Dornogard trusts no one…least of all spirited Gaelic healer Alexis Fallon, who fascinates even as she defies him.

The magnificent Norse warrior is a threat to both Alexis’ heart and her cherished autonomy, for she harbors a secret about the ambush she cannot reveal. Honesty will cost her her freedom. But silence may cost her far more.

Cort harbors a damning secret of his own—one guaranteed to foment rebellion among his new subjects. The escalating attacks and accidents confirm that fear. His foes, both English and Norman, will exploit what he hides to destroy him, his dreams, and the woman he’s grown to love.

Snared in a web of castle intrigue, passion, and betrayal, Cort and Lexi are each far more than either suspects. Will they discover too late that truth is a two-edged sword?

Secrets tiptoe around while stifling good intentions strut around creating obstacles for love. But love, with its own unique tenacity, finds ways to bring joy and hope as it weaves its golden web around two strong personalities.

Alexis Fallon (Lexi), a creature of nature, a healer, and so much more, has an innate elegance that covers a lively spirit sparkling with mischief. She brings a unique type of buoyancy to Cherish the Knight with her joy and respect for life. But without freedom and time for solitude she becomes restive. She is not the usual heroine that one often sees is a historical set in eleventh century England. She is captivating with a sense of self-worth and a sense of humor that augment the many facets of her personality. She is not intimidated by the Normans that arrive with the bigger-than-life Cort Dornogard, the new owner of Avonly.

A tall beauty, with midnight hair, topaz eyes, and an unearthly air about her, Lexi tends the wounded Normans; befriends Dane, the simple-minded, fierce warrior friend of Cort’s. She seems to share a special connection with Dane and teaches him much about tending the wounded. He tends with a gentleness that belies his ferocity in battle. She gains the Normans’ respect and friendship and sets Cort’s libido on high alert.

Lexi comes to see Cort as one akin to Balder the Beautiful—god of spring, sunlight, and joy in Norse mythology. More than that she admires his sense of fairness, his loyalty, his work ethic, his talent and desire to build rather than destroy, his intuitiveness, and his sense of humor.

Athene, Lexi’s pet ferret and Fen, Cort’s wolfhound add a delightful touch and also give insight into Lexi and Cort’s journey toward trusting each other. Athene does stir up trouble that puts Lexi in a precarious spot in a towering rage.

Lord Graham, Lexi’s uncle and the former Earl of Avonly and his daughter Melissande are in an awkward position when Cort and his entourage arrive. How they deal with their loss of property and place of power creates two very different undercurrents that ripple along in all the chaos of building a great stone castle and setting the estate on track for even greater prosperity. How they help or hinder the melding together of Norman and English people to work together for the estate and all to prosper is never far from the surface.

Guy, Cort’s second-in-command and longtime friend, knows what Cort is thinking most of the time and is usually thinking the same way about strategies and temperaments of the people. They’ve survived many lethal situations with their almost telepathic connection with each other. Dane, a might warrior in battle, is a simple-minded, gentle soul by nature and comes to be very protective of his special friend Lexi.

Cherish the Knight has a multitude of intriguing characters that create sub-plots and side stories that enthrall. The antagonist is strong but a coward in a pinch, he is cunning, cruel, and intelligent enough to test the mettle of Cort and his men. He and his co-conspirator wreck havoc at Amiton (Avonly’s new name). While there are injuries and material damage in their doings, the greatest damage is the wedge of mistrust driven between Cort and Lexi, a mistrust that brings about earth-shattering results.

Diane O’key’s characters are brimming over with humanness; flaws, fears, hopes, goals, and life stories create a rich vicarious experience for the reader. The qualities of the heroine are not the usual for an eleventh-century woman. Her strength of character, sense of humor, sense of self-worth, and her ability to function with aplomb in a male-dominated society make her awesome and a worthy match for the “comely” hero with talents and accomplishments galore (can’t tell what they all are, it would give away a super good part of the story). Ms. O’Key tells a tantalizing story with descriptions that reveal time, place, emotions, and actions in such compelling style that the reader’s senses and emotions are swept into it all with pulse-pounding battles, despicable intrigues, secret fears and hopes, and, best of all, delightful foreplay and magical love scenes.

Cherish the Knight throbs with life. It captivates.

Jeffery Ellison and Monica Collins face off daily in Atlanta’s family court system. Both want the best for their clients but they rarely agree. The sparks are obvious to everyone else, but Monica has been disappointed by men too many times. Jeff knows pushing her will only hurt the respect and trust they’ve built. A match with 1NS sounds like just the thing. The pair is off to Vegas for a legal conference and to enjoy their one night stands. Jeff does his best to spend time with her outside of work but he can’t be sure she’s his for the night. All he can do is hope that Madame Eve agrees with his heart and Monica will let her guard down long enough to see their passionate potential.

Opposing counsel Jeffrey Ellison and Monica Collins have a healthy respect for each other as well as being secretly in lust. Monica is a buttoned up, always professional woman who would not allow her secret desires to interfere with her working relationships. Although she dreams of being with Jeffrey, she will not allow herself to be. After winning a trip to Vegas and being setup on a one night stand by Madame Eve, Monica hopes to finally erase her craving for Jeffrey.

Jeffrey Ellison simply wants to be with Monica, she is his fantasy woman and he’s hoping that this trip to Vegas will be everything he desires. Jeffrey has also won this trip which he believes was setup by Judge Monroe. Also, Monica’s mom likes him and he’s sure that she would not be opposed to the two of them getting together. He’s hoping that his one night stand which Madame Eve also set up for him is with his fantasy woman Monica.

Jeffrey and Monica are really great characters, they each had a secret desire for each other but were unsure whether or not to act on it. I enjoyed reading this story, it flowed nicely and it was fun to see how their secret unraveled. The sex between them was hot and I found myself smiling while reading this story. Madame Eve sets you up with your perfect match, and as always with the one night stand series, Madame Eve always gets it right.

Hello, Thank you very much for having me on your blog. I really appreciate the opportunity.

I have written two novels so far, Oxford Whispers, and its sequel, Oxford Shadows, out in May 2013. Everything in what I write is influenced by my past. Now, not necessarily only my childhood or my teen years though, since Oxford Whispers isn’t a Young Adult novel. It rather belongs to the emerging genre called New Adult or Upper-YA.

Oxford Whispers is the story of Madison LeBon, an American student at Oxford University, with psychic powers she prefers to ignore. But when the tragic lovers in a painting begin to haunt her, she must learn to accept her gift. Otherwise, life will imitate art and Madison’s own first love will be doomed.

As part of my business degree, I was selected to spend a year at the prestigious Oxford University. For me, it was a dream come true. During my time there, I explored every corner of the city. Some of its most famous landmarks have now a personal resonance: The Randolph, the Turf Tavern, the Queen’s Lane Coffee House… I even celebrated my birthday at Freud’s, just like my heroine Madison did. I stayed for a month in one of the colleges, Exeter College (where Pippa, Madison’s best friend, studies), and I use my room there to model Madison’s. The day I arrived in Oxford for the first time, I KNEW if I ever wrote a book, it would be set in Oxford. It’s truly one of the most romantic places I’ve been to.

The plot revolves also around a pre-Raphaelite painting titled “The Wounded Cavalier” by William Shakespeare Burton. It’s such a pity William Shakespeare Burton does not enjoy a wider appeal. I used to have a poster of the painting in my room as a teenager instead of Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt. Does that make me weird? I spent hours daydreaming about the characters in it, building countless scenarios: did they get married? Did they find happiness? Or did the Cavalier die before they could even start falling in love? Oxford Whispers develops one of my “theories.”

I was born in West Africa. When I had to leave, aged four, I left a piece of my heart behind. Elizabeth was the name of my nanny. She looked after me as if I were her own, carried me on her back in the traditional African way, and sung for me while I fell asleep. She gave me one of my most precious possessions: a Voodoo gris-gris. It was a leather pouch with a small shell on top of it. She had hung it on a rough thread so that I could carry it around my neck. It was meant to protect me from evil spirits and bring me luck. I took that gris-gris everywhere with me.

So Oxford Whispers is fed by my dreams, experiences, heartbreaks from my birth to my early-twenties.

About the Author:

I am a true citizen of the world. I was born in West Africa, grew up in the South of France, and studied in Vienna, Paris, Berlin, Cape Town, and Oxford before finally settling down in London. This wide variety of cities has provided lots of inspiration for my writing. Talk about culture exposure!

In addition to being an author, I work as an entrepreneur, wife and mother-of-one but spend a good deal of time with books, DVDs and listening to my mp3 player; all for the sake of inspiration, of course. My debut series, The Oxford Trilogy, has been a blast to write because I can indulge in my favorite types of music: Country and English rock.

My main goal as a writer is to make readers dream bigger and cause their hearts to beat a little faster. Since my writing is all about sharing dreams and stories, I love connecting with fellow readers and authors.

Two star-crossed lovers in the English Civil War
A painting with haunting powers
A murderous ghost back for revenge
Madison LeBon is dead set against the dead. She has vowed to ignore her Voodoo-stamped heritage and the psychic gift passed down through her Louisiana family. The world of the living is where she wants to belong.

But her resolution shatters when the ill-fated lovers in a painting—the subject of her first history class at Oxford—begin to haunt her. The lovers warn her against their own nemesis, a Puritan from the English Civil War.

In misty present-day Oxford, Madison embarks on a quest to unravel the secrets of the past and understand her personal bond with the painting. To protect herself, she must learn to accept her gift before life imitates art, in all its tragedy.

College becomes more complicated when she falls hard for Rupert Vance, a troubled aristocrat and descendant of one of the characters in the painting.

With the spirit of a murderer in hot pursuit, Madison comes to realize that her own first love may be doomed…

Based on a real Pre-Raphaelite painting, Oxford Whispers is full of romance, drama and suspense.

Fall in love for the first time… Again

NaNoWriMo is an odd thing. I’m not doing it this year, though I have in the past, and even won. I find that these days, I have enough incentive to get my ass in the chair almost every day without the crazy-making expectation of fifty thousand words on the page at the end of the month.

But that isn’t the only reason I’m not participating this year. “I’m working on a story idea I’ve had for a few months now. I still love the idea, and the characters, and I still think I have a good story here, but the thought of opening up that document and working on it makes me want to walk away from the computer completely.”

I quoted that right out of one of my own blog posts from November of 2008. I’m pretty sure it was this very book, As Advertised, that I was working on at the time, too.

At the time, I didn’t know what to do about the dilemma. The fact is, I still don’t. NaNo says write. Write through it all, and worry about quality and typos later. Just write and get to the end. My heart says writing through a bad story line is not the way to go. Put it away and come back to it when the characters feel like co-operating and telling you their thoughts and feelings.

The funny thing is, I don’t remember ever feeling this feeling of apathy towards a story before. Clearly, I have felt it. Huh. Funny what we block out of our memory when it suits, isn’t it?

The good news is that if I worked through the issue once, there’s a good chance I can do it again. As Advertised came out decently, after all, and I really think the story I’m working on now will, too. I have it on good authority (a beta reader who I trust would not lie to me, ever) that it emphatically does not suck as much as I think it does.

To prove it, she says I should start here:

The club could not have been any darker and still be considered lit, but Stanley didn’t think better lighting would improve the ambiance. Stage lights bounced over the chanting crowd, glanced off the shabby décor, and disappeared into the further reaches of the low-ceilinged labyrinth of the bar.

The lead singer prowled to the front and took up a position behind the mike. His sulk was infused with sex and the silent command to look at him, see him, and want him. Stanley glanced around the room. Everyone heard that slinky body language. Turning his attention back to the stage, he stripped his own veneer of music executive and watched the younger man through the eyes of the audience.

Narrow hips, long, muscled legs encased in leather, broad shoulders and chest just filled out enough to be impressive screamed the perfect, soundless note of bad-boy and danger. His clean, fine features were lost under the weight of makeup and spiked hair, but the drama of lean sharp characteristics accentuated with black liner and lipstick was more than enough to command the attention his undoubtedly pretty face might not get if he’d showed it off naked. And yet, Stanley wished he could see under the façade, because there was something innately provocative about the man his persona came dangerously close to ruining.

What do you think? Couple of characters worth reading about? I hope so!!

About the Author:Jaime has been writing for various publishers since the fall of 2008, although she’s been writing for herself far longer. Often asked why men; what’s so fascinating about writing stories about men falling in love, she’s never come up with a clear answer. Just that these are the stories that she loves to read, so it seemed to make sense if she was going to write, they should also be the stories she wrote.

These days, you can find plenty of free reading on her website. She also writes for Freya’s Bower, Loveyoudivine Alterotica, Pink Petal Books, Dreamspinner Press and Total E-Bound.

Spare time, when it can be found rolled into a ball at the back of the dryer or cavorting with the dust bunnies in the corners, she’s probably spending reading, drawing, gardening (weather permitting, of course, since she is Canadian!) or watching movies. Well. She has a day job or two, as well, and two kids, but thankfully, also a wonderful husband who shoulders more than his fair share of household and child care responsibilities.

She graduated some time ago from college with a Fine Arts diploma, with a major in textile arts, which basically qualifies her to draw pictures and create things with string and fabric. One always needs an official slip of paper to fall back on after all….

The very first publication I tried to promote was a POD book I’d written in early 2000 before I knew what I was doing as far as publishing was concerned. At the time, I was so excited that someone wanted to publish my book that I didn’t take the time to learn about the business. My first mistake. Being young and internet friendly, I thought I had an edge on other writers out there because I belonged to online groups and communities way before Myspace was a glimmer in Tom’s eye. When the book in question finally came out, I went on an internet spamathon. I hit up all the groups I belonged to and even some I had only just joined so I could promote my book. I was nice and friendly, telling the group members how excited I was to publish my first book and included the blurb, excerpt, and buy links. I must have spent two days posting to about 30 different places. I figured the sales would go through the roof, you know, because my family and friends would buy the book too.

Guess what happened?

I got slammed.

Hard.

Not only did most of the group and community members call me out for joining the groups just to promote, they ripped apart my blurb and excerpt right in “public” for everyone to see and obviously didn’t buy the book. Mortified is the only word to describe how I felt.

I promptly took everything down, apologized to a few of the groups that I had belonged to, and crawled into a hole for a while.

But then something else happened.

One of the group members contacted me. She was very nice, honest, and helpful. Her first suggestion to me was to find a writer’s group. It was the best advice ever. I wish I still had her email address so I could thank her properly, but it got lost in the shuffle long ago.

The second thing that came from all of this was realizing that said book was pretty bad. Some of it was my fault, some of it was editing. Either way, I knew I had so much to learn about writing be it the process, submitting, editing, and/or dealing with publishers.

I took the advice and criticism to heart, joined a writers group, did hours and hours of research online, and eventually learned the correct way to promote without making an ass out of myself.

I think that first, extremely hard lesson helped me develop a thick skin rather quickly. I tend to be defensive when confronted, but when it’s online and it’s already there and you have to actually take the time to write a response back, it gives you moment to reflect and absorb what was said in the first place. Mostly everything the people in those groups said about my writing was true. It was crap. I freely admit it. One cannot get better if they don’t learn from their mistakes. I’ve learned.

I learned that everyone has an opinion. If the negative feedback is constructive, I’ll always listen. If the negative feedback is based on style, well, there isn’t much I can do about that. If the negative feedback is hurtful on purpose, I’ll just curse at the screen, take a deep breath, and then let it go. Being mean just to be mean is something I’ve dealt with for many years, so I will always take it for what it is, bullying.

Negative feedback can be a blessing in disguise too. As a writer, we are sometimes too close to a project to see the whole picture clearly. Editors, publishers, reviewers, and readers can all give valuable negative criticism if done correctly. And, as weird as this may seem, I can’t wait to get some more of it in the future. While I know you can’t please everyone all the time, honest and helpful negative feedback will only make me a better writer in the future.

When life gives you a second chance how do you decide what to do?

Julianne Locke knows the pain of loss and what it can do to a soul. She has refused to let any man close…until an accident puts a man in her path who will change her life forever. Keenan is the one man she cannot seem to keep at a distance. Whether it’s fate or coincidence that brings them together, Julianne cannot walk away from this man who pushes all her buttons and makes her want to believe in hope once again.

Keenan Callaghan’s first look at Julianne makes him forget that he’s supposed to be all about business. The instant attraction and connection he feels for her leaves him unsettled. He quickly comes to the realisation that he wants to know more about the woman who not only tempts him, but makes him forget all else but her. Julianne might be trying to keep him at arm’s length, but he’s a patient man. He knows the best way to weather a hurricane is to hold on and ride out the storm together…forever.

Julianne Locke is part owner of Moments event planning, and she and her partners are expanding their business by building another facility, Moments Deuce. While walking through the new facility, Julianne is almost trapped by a fire that erupts. Fire investigator Keenan Callaghan is called in to investigate and is immediately attracted to Julianne. Julianne is also attracted to him but will not allow herself to give in because she is still carrying the hurt of losing her husband eight years ago. Julianne and her husband Charles were involved in a car accident that killed him and almost took the life of her unborn baby. Her daughter Marissa was born at twenty-two weeks and was not expected to live. Now for Julianne, it’s she and her daughter together weathering any storm that may come their way.

Keenan Callaghan is an ex cop who after helping a fire investigator solve an arson, decided that he wanted to become an investigator. When he met Julianne in the hospital after the fire, he was immediately drawn to her and promised himself that once the investigation was done he would pursue her. He asked her to go out with him but she refused, however she finally asked him to go out with her after running into him and his niece while rollerblading with Marissa.

Hurricane is a story of love lost and new beginnings, Julianne and Keenan knew that they wanted to be together but she had issues. The story moved a little slow at first which had this reader a little bored, but then once they started to delve into why she couldn’t allow herself to love again, it piqued my interest again. Hurricane is a good story and Taige Crenshaw is a great storyteller, I’ve read many books by this author and can say she is one of my favorites. The supporting characters were entertaining and helped to round everything out. I wouldn’t say that Hurricane is a ‘must read’ but it is a pleasant read and one you may enjoy.

Deena can’t help but fantasise about the hot handyman she meets next door. She’s certain that the gorgeous blond has exactly the tool she needs.

Curvy, quirky Deena Stevens never quite fitted in. She feels especially out of place in the company of “The Botox Brigade”—the kept and polished women populating the upscale homes that border her organic farm.

Regardless of their differences, Deena’s neighbours seem to enjoy her company. They sit and chat when they come to buy Deena’s free-range eggs and pesticide-free veggies. They even invite her to join their book club—despite the objection of Suzanne, who hosts the club meetings and clearly considers herself the queen of the group.

The book-clubbers peacefully coexist until a house call from sexy handyman, Bill, disrupts the monthly meeting. The women jostle for attention and superficial friendships are tested. Jealousies flare when the hot, handsome blond openly flirts with Deena and ignores the trophy wives. Suzanne has already set her sights on Bill, and when Deena reveals his surprising connection to her past, Suzanne gets territorial.

After their surprise reunion, Bill promises to keep in touch with Deena. Bill shows up at Deena’s door and a night of incomparable passion leaves them both craving more. When Suzanne discovers their tryst she begins crafting a plan to destroy the new love affair and steal the sexy handyman for herself.

Will Mr. Fix-It have what it takes to repair the damage?

Deena Stevens operates a farm in an upscale neighborhood selling her pesticide free vegetables and eggs to the women there. As a result, the ‘Botox Brigade’ which she lovingly calls them, has included her in their monthly book club meetings which is led by Suzanne. Not being as polished as they are, Deena is comfortable with the few extra pounds she wears and the haphazard way she wears her hair. This particular day, Deena was late as always for the meeting which led to Suzanne calling her and yelling about her tardiness.

Bill Swenson is the handyman Suzanne uses to fix things around her house, it doesn’t hurt that he’s tall, blond and gorgeous. Which is why Suzanne constantly finds things for him to fix; after all who wouldn’t want such a beautiful man around? One look at Bill and Deena knew that he would never be interested in her until she took a second look and realized that Bill was her summer camp crush when they were fifteen.

This was a very good story, the author portrayed a not so perfect woman among cosmetically perfect ones and still showed how love can look past the surface. Not everyone is perfect but everyone deserves a chance at love, and Bill wanted Deena. Suzanne was the bitch you knew you would hate, especially with her snide remarks, and scheming ways. She couldn’t stand that Bill only had eyes for Deena, especially when he had someone as perfect as her in front of him. Mr. Fix-It is an enjoyable read and if you do pick up a copy I hope that you will enjoy it as much as this reader did.

In the wrong hands, Jenna Thomas’s legacy could be a curse—in her mind it already is. As a child, a routine x-ray awakened an abnormality in Jenna’s DNA, giving her the ability to “call” creatures and take on their attributes. Labeled a freak since then, Jenna’s learned to keep everyone at a distance. But all that changes the day she saves a young boy from drowning and the story goes viral.

Nick Hawke, an off-duty policeman, witnesses part of the drama. Captivated by Jenna’s exotic beauty, he decides to investigate, not sure what to believe. Jenna puts his cynicism to the test—even as the attraction between them grows.

As word of her extraordinary rescue spreads, a dangerous man who will stop at nothing to control Jenna’s abilities draws near. With her feelings for Nick putting him in danger too, can Jenna risk everything to protect them both?

Will Jenna put her life on the line for a man she’s just met?

Jenna is a very easy character to like. Even though she knows she’s risking exposing her abilities to the world, she still saves a young boy from drowning. That alone says volumes about the type of woman she is, but I still would have liked to know more about her past and how she learned to control her abilities. Not only does Jenna have a good heart, but a bold one as well. I expected someone who has spent a good deal of her life alone and trying to hide to be much more timid. However, Jenna has quite a bit of spunk in her. Her display of attitude after chasing some bad guys off her property is especially entertaining.

Jenna’s unique powers make for a thought provoking story that left me wondering what would happen if such a thing were really possible. In Jenna’s case, she becomes a target for a very evil man, but I also couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if those powers resided in someone who didn’t have Jenna’s morals to begin with. The thought is truly terrifying.

Jenna and Nick have an intense connection from the moment they meet. The chemistry between them practically sizzles. Jenna hints that other people have been less than accepting about her powers, so I thought it a bit odd that she was so quick to not only trust Nick, but pursue a relationship with him. Their relationship moves a bit fast for my taste, but the connection between them seems genuine. I also enjoyed the twist added to their bond after they make love.

I thought the conflict with the man who was after Jenna was resolved a bit too quickly. Just as the story was picking up speed and the tension was mounting, everything ended. I just wasn’t ready for the story to be over yet. I also have to question why Jenna and Nick didn’t take more precautions for her safety in the first place. Nick and Jenna knew she was a target, yet they didn’t take much action to prevent another attack. I would have thought Nick would have at least insisted on moving her to a different location. Despite this issue, the plot flowed well and had a satisfying conclusion.
