Trace McGonagall’s quiet life on his Houston stud ranch is shaken up when gorgeous Macy Veralta arrives to claim an inheritance left to her in his uncle’s will. Trace sees her as just another gold digger, but he also can’t resist her curvy body. When she hints at being the perfect submissive to his Dom, he has to have her.

Macy wouldn’t have been three months late to claim her inheritance if she’d known Trace was sin in jeans. The cowboy’s dominant bearing and the smoldering glint in his eyes send shivers to her toes and stirs images of being bound in his bed and disciplined at his hand. But could Trace’s perfect seduction be part of his plan to reclaim her inheritance?

Sometimes, Uncle knows best!

Lust at first sight, a Texas drawl, and a good sense of humor, I think I’m in love!

Her Cowboy Stud is a story that’s been done but Ms. Alexander throws in just enough twists and a healthy dose of BDSM play to make it fresh and fun.

Macy Veralta may be submissive in the bedroom, but Trace McGonagall manages to push the right buttons to turn sweet and blushing into angry and boiling in a matter of minutes. Lack of trust and enough conclusion jumping to make a an Olympic pole vaulter jealous go a long way to changing Macy’s preconceived perception of Trace.

This cowboy stud (actually, I liked Macy’s name for him but can’t repeat it here) is going to have a whole lot of quick talking and groveling to do to get Macy back to blushing and all sweetness. I was pretty sure he could handle it and was looking forward to watching this dominant male squirm just a little. Ms. Alexander didn’t disappoint and she also didn’t draw it out. Quick apologies and candid conversation kept this hot train on track and back to the steamy action.

The dialogue is really fun. I had to smile when Trace tells Macy, “Wait until you get a taste of my lovin, sweetheart. You’ll be hooked”. I know I was and I was only reading the smokin’ bedroom action.

Ms. Alexander launches the reader straight into the first meeting between Macy and Trace. That works just fine for this short story so that I had more time to watch the sparks turn into an all-out Fourth of July show worthy of Times Square!

I never felt cheated from character background or development. Bits and pieces of both Macy and Trace’s backgrounds are sprinkled throughout this novella.

This was my first book by Ms. Alexander but it certainly won’t be the last. Her story moves quickly and flows smoothly from start to finish with almost no lag time. It kept me reading to see how Macy and Trace would come to the same conclusion his thoughtful Uncle Silas knew all along. They were perfect for one another.

If quick, hot and sweet is what you’re in the mood for, check out Her Cowboy Stud. I’m glad I did.

Kee Smith battled through a difficult childhood to work her way up the ranks of the U.S. Army. When she finally makes it into the elite Night Stalkers, she feels thrilled, honored, and vindicated…until she finds out she’s been assigned to the “girlie-chopper” piloted by the only other woman in the regiment.

Kee is determined to show Lt. Archie Stevenson, one of the male co-pilots, that she is just as tough as the guys. Throughout their special mission, Archie doesn’t know whether to make love to her or plant her face-first into the dirt. But he’ll do whatever it takes to break through that shield Kee wears around her heart.

I Own the Dawn is not your average action story, it’s so much more!

This is the second in the Night Stalkers series, but even though I hadn’t read book one, I didn’t have a hard time at all catching up with the action. M.L. Buchman writes with eloquence and a feel for emotion that drew me right into the story. The characters are realistic and fun as well as darned good with guns. I loved it.

One thing I really liked about the story was the introduction of Dilya. She adds a dimension of humanity to an otherwise hard topic to deal with. This story takes place during a war. Yes, it’s gritty. The truth of the matter is war isn’t romantic or pretty. Buchman deals with the topic handily and like I said, with the introduction of Dilya there is an element of what the SOAR group is fighting for – to save humanity, if even in just that small place they happen to be.

The relationship between Kee and Archie is both hot and sweet. From the start, I knew they belonged together. It was just a matter of how they got there. And it was a HOT ride. Totally worth the read.

If you want a book that’s packed with emotion and action, then this is the book for you!

The last extinction is here, man. And I’m it.

Only one side can win this war. For which one are you rooting?

I’ll warn you in advance – this isn’t the kind of narrative that spoon-feeds exposition to the reader. The bare bones of what is happening are revealed as needed but I had to pay close attention to figure out how certain scenes fit together. Once the loose ends do come together, though, what may have at first appeared to be throwaway bits of dialogue reveal their true meanings.

I finished the last page wishing I could know more about the characters. What I did learn about them was so intriguing that I still wonder about the rest of their backstories and how they developed into the men one glimpses in Skinz. This is definitely something that could be expanded into a novel or a series of short stories if Mr. Sutherland ever wanted to do so.

The only thing that kept this tale from getting five stars was its overuse of slang. I found some of the terms confusing at first and while I understand why Mr. Sutherland chose not to stop and explain what they meant as a reader it was distracting to puzzle certain words out while keeping up with a fast-paced, action-heavy plot. It’s not an issue if this sort of thing happens once or twice in a short story but when they become repetitive it distracts my attention from the plot.

Skinz is effortlessly creepy. It was only after I finished reading it and mulled over everything for a few days that the true horror of what happened fully sank in. I’d highly recommend this book to anyone who is in the mood to be deeply frightened.

One late night leads to . . .

Kidnapped! When Jeanne Louise Argeneau left work, she never thought she’d end up tied down by a good-looking mortal. More attracted than annoyed, she quickly realizes there is more to her abductor than meets the eye.

One desperate act leads to . . .

Love? Paul Jones has need of a vampire, and only Jeanne Louise will do. He just has to convince this beauty of a Vamp to help him . . . never imagining that he would fall in love. But with the immortal world’s answer to law enforcement hunting them, their time together is running out . . . and Paul and Jeanne Louise will need to risk everything to spend an eternity together.

It’s not too often that an Argeneau gets kidnapped. Usually it’s done by bad guys and the result is never good. This time around it’s for a higher purpose and the lines between good and bad are blurred. Two wrongs usually don’t make a right but in this case they did; it also made for a great read and a fascinating story.

The conflict is powerful in this latest romance from Ms. Sands. It’s about making a choice and living with the consequences. The author did a masterful job of navigating all the emotional ups and downs between Paul, the hero and Jeanne Louise, the heroine. What started off hopeful and promising turned tragic on a dime and the fallout is what propelled the plot for a good chunk of the novel.

Paul was a desperate man. He was basically a good person, smart, sexy and highly intelligent. He was faced with an untenable situation and was doing everything he could to avoid it, to no avail. His last attempt before time ran out reaped unexpected benefits as well as unforeseen complications. He tried his best and he mostly kept his sense of humor but one realization too many left him with an uncertain and lonely future. I really felt for him. All the hero wanted to do was save someone’s life and it ended up costing him his happiness. I liked that he tried to brave it out because he knew if he didn’t, he’d lose everything. He was tender, understanding, loving and supportive to Jeanne Louise, but it wasn’t enough. Paul was a very easy character to have sympathy and empathy for. I liked his protective streak, his ability for commitment and the way he expressed his love to the heroine. He was a great guy.

Jeanne Louise fell in love twice in this story. It would have been the perfect fairy tale had everything that she planned and counted on worked out. Such was not too be. Watching her deal with her pain was a sad thing but I respected the heroine because not only did she deal with her pain, she tried to mitigate someone else’s. That takes a lot of heart and deep emotional strength to be willing to put oneself in that position.

Because the blurb didn’t mention the other main character, I’m not going to either. I made the discovery the same time as Jeanne Louise did and it made an indelible impact on me. I had no idea that this kind of conflict was going to carry the story and it alternates between sadness, happiness, awe and delight. This person is strong enough to bring two people together or rip them apart, so it was a very effective addition to the book. The love emanating from the pages whenever this character was on scene is unmistakable. It made the plot believable and added a layer of emotional depth that was hard to resist. It also created most of the light drama and suspense, unless Lucien Argeneau was on scene. That man brings instant paranoia and tension wherever he goes.

Speaking of Lucien, he’s not the only Argeneau family member to show up. Whenever they are around a reader can expect the unexpected as well as fun, laughter, great dialogue and interesting character interaction. It’s not all fun because the Enforcers have to play their role and in this book, one of them messed up. That being said, I am giving serious thought that one might, just might, have met his future life mate in this story. If so, that will be so awesome!

This wouldn’t be a complete story without some scenes of that shared loving that is intrinsic to new life mates and Ms. Sands didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed how the author managed to put humor into such passionate scenes because when she does that, it makes her heroes and heroines easier to relate to. Regular people experience learning curves when they have sex with a new partner, but it’s extra special between Immortal lovers.

Although I mentioned that previous Argeneau characters are in this novel, this book is a standalone read. It’s no hardship to follow the plot thread because it’s strictly focused on Paul and Jeanne Louise. However, readers of the series will understand the extent of the worry that Lucien’s very presence always inspires. Imagine Darth Vader with a fluffy marshmallow center. That would be Lucien. It’s very rare to see the fluffy side of Lucien Argeneau. Readers almost get to see it in this story. Watch for it.

The Lady is a Vamp is as touching and sentimental a story as it is sexy and exciting. Like real life, there is a smorgasbord of situations that draw forth a variety of feelings from a reader. Not the least of which is the sense of satisfaction that comes from a well written and complete happy ever after.

Ms. Sands has the reputation for writing wonderful and entertaining stories with characters that draw a reader in. The Lady is a Vamp continues the trend and is a keeper.

Mike has watched Lynda for months. He wants her. He’s asked her out several times only to be told “no.” Her reasoning baffles him; he sees no problem with her being eighteen years his senior. He doesn’t believe it’s anybody’s business that they work together. If she would simply give him a chance, he could show her exactly how much fun they could have.

Lynda has done everything within her power to discourage Mike’s attraction to her. He’s idealistic. However she resides in the real world, and at forty, she has certainly learned a few things. To top it off, she’s his boss, and she can’t keep avoiding him. Her only option is to nip his growing infatuation in the bud. She simply has to figure out how to do that when she wants him as much as he desires her. All things considered, she has her work cut out for her.

Sex Oughta Be Luscious was one of those tales that had you smiling from beginning to end.

Mike works as a stock boy for the Just A Buck store. He, along with his co-worker James, have a serious crush on their supervisor Lynda Chambers. Too bad there’s a No Fraternization rule between staff and management that Lynda likes to repeatedly bring up. There’s also the small matter of their age difference. Lynda was forty and Mike only twenty-two. How could he get her to see him as a potential lover?

Lynda Chambers knew that Mike had a serious crush on her, but he was just too young for her. She has a son older than him, for goodness sake. Lynda was flattered by Mike’s attention and it didn’t hurt that he was gorgeous, but dare she take that step and go against what she knew was right?

I knew that somehow these two would get together, and it was fun to see the events that took place that changed Lynda’s mind. The banter between the characters was light and humorous which made me wish Sex Oughta Be Luscious was longer. Lynda and Mike had nothing in common, but the chemistry between them was evident. This reader couldn’t wait to see the fireworks that I knew would happen when these two got together. Sex Oughta Be Luscious was a fun read that I would enjoy seeing put into a longer version to really give Lynda and Mike a chance to develop their relationship. How can a lady avoid a scandal…

Just as Miss Isabella Winslowe is finally achieving comfortable respectability, the fascinating and decidedly unrespectable Earl of Colebrooke inconveniently appears…

When a gentleman is so determined to flirt…

The darkly handsome Daniel Colebrooke is intrigued and alarmed when an alluring young lady arrives at his door in need of assistance. In a moment of impetuosity, Daniel decides he must keep a close watch on Isabella, and what better way than to strike up a not–so–innocent fliration…

Together they’ll cook up more than a little mischief when a disappearing dead body and a lascivious scandal spins their reckless game entirely out of control.

Ah, mystery, murder, men shy of marriage, mercenaries, and a merry mischief-maker all mixed together. The ton is titillated and the gossip grows.

Daniel Fletcher Coldbrooke, The Seventh Earl of Coldbrooke needs a wife.  He doesn’t really want a wife, but needs one. As a second son, he’d been a gentleman rogue until tragedy struck his family. Now he needs respectability and an heir. Of course, he wants a submissive, obedient wife. It would be nice if he loved her, but that’s not a deal-breaker. He’s dedicated to getting himself and his sister Gretchen married in one Season.

As we know, the best laid plan can go astray. With the help of one unconventional mischief-maker, his plan is set on its ear, or so it seems. This is a Regency romp to enjoy.

Isabella Winslowe, pretty much abandoned by her father and left in the care of a spinster aunt, has respectability and acceptance in the ton, but her plan is to live independently like her aunt as soon as she’s old enough to come into her inheritance. Obedient and submissive are not in her vocabulary much less in her personality. She’s intelligent, compassionate, adventurous, and determined—far too outspoken.

Her first encounter with the earl of Coldbrooke sets her on edge. He’s condescending, arrogant, judgmental and about as approachable as a wild boar. But he is so impressive, intriguing and powerful. He makes her heart race. Isabella and Daniel, thrown together to help save his sister Gretchen’s reputation and solve a mysterious murder, strike sparks off each other and ignite a slow burn that Daniel has a hard time controlling. While in cahoots and going on clandestine ventures, Daniel finds keeping his hands off her is as much of a challenge as solving the murder is.

The secondary characters add tension and intrigue. While Society Rules create worrisome times for anyone who doesn’t conform—which Daniel and Isabella can’t seem to do. My goodness, some of the chances they take are risky and so exciting.

Amelia Grey has a fantastic way of bringing characters to life. They pulsate with emotions and sparkle with humor while threading their way through the minefields of Society Rules to assuage out-of-control cravings and still stay ‘respectable’. She never allows the story to lag and she sprinkles in clues and a few red herrings throughout to keep the reader guessing. However, she keeps the reader turning pages with the steadily growing love story that enchants. A Little Mischief is playful and seductive with a touch of sad and serious, Most of all, it is uplifting, a Regency romance that leaves the reader feeling good. All has come right for the hero and heroine and for some other nice people, too. This one is a sparkling happy-ever-after.

Luis is the Daddy, a sought-after lover, with an ego to match the mammoth-sized Mardi Gras floats he designs. His lifestyle and reputation are wearing him out, but Luis can’t find a satisfying way to break the cycle and be happy, too.

Drew’s insecurities pushed him to have a foolish affair six years ago. It destroyed his relationship with Luis, and he’s never been able to commit to anyone since. Now, he’s taken control of his life and changed his submissive personality by becoming a model for Kevin Marks, and a wildlife enforcement agent in New Orleans.

These men haven’t forgotten each other, or settled their differences. When they accidentally meet in a French Quarter gay bar, the years of regret, anger, and pent-up emotions erupt. Their passion is as hot as ever, their mistrust just as potent. When Drew’s future is in Luis’ hands, will he choose his lifestyle or love?

A little intimidation and attempted murder sure goes a long way towards getting priorities straight in one’s life but the payoff of a finally resolved romance is enough of an impetus to see it through until the end game. If he survives.

Ms. Church set up the plot elements in the first two chapters, giving readers a bit of background that ties the two heroes together. It was done with a natural easy flow by getting into each of the heads of Drew and Luis. I learned that there are unresolved issues between the men but that they’ve gone on with their lives. Both men have changed to some degree; Drew most of all. The challenge is going to be to reconcile their past differences and learn about each other all over again. Some things have remained the same, like the incendiary passion that erupts between them, and others have changed, like Drew’s confidence, enhanced by doing a job that matters. Life has shaped Drew into a sharper, smarter man and it’s Luis that needs to come to terms with it.

The plot thread of criminal activity and the threat to Drew’s safety is woven throughout the book giving a sharp edged tone to its telling, especially with the pressure of the ticking clock. Drew’s current job put him in harm’s way and it’s coming to get him. First he has to testify and someone doesn’t want him to. The hero has to survive long enough to tell his story to a jury. The scenes of the violent confrontation were hard to read. Ms. Church did a very nice job of getting the horror and viciousness across to a reader.

When Luis and Drew reconnect there are a lot of great sex scenes but the drama and intensity that peppers the story makes the sex more meaningful and powerful. There’s a certain level of communication that goes on during those romps and it’s Luis and Drew’s hearts doing the talking. What comes out of their mouths, and the mixed-up insecurities that plague their brains, mess up what their bodies are trying to tell them. It’s not over, it’s a new beginning and this is their second and last chance.

Of course, the path of love isn’t easy or smooth and once they reconnect, Luis has to make some hard choices. Drew needs to learn and accept that this time, Luis is for real. Nothing tests that fragile new resolve like having a partner who was vibrant and independent suddenly lose that independence and then having to deal with the emotional fallout. Luis and Drew’s new beginning is forged in fire. If they can make it through these worst of times, then there is hope. Ms. Church effectively took me through Drew’s painful healing process, both emotional and physical with writing that captured the darkness he felt.

I wasn’t too crazy about the character of Kyle. In the beginning he seemed okay, like a wonderful support system for Drew, with benefits. He came across as sane, well adjusted and a solid peer. Once Luis came on the scene, Kyle changed, like he’d become possessed by a sniveling, resentful and immature alien and he did and said things that didn’t jive with how he was initially portrayed. I’m not sure exactly why his character didn’t work for me but he annoyed me immensely. Maybe it was his true self, and the author wanted that swift change to be shocking; in that, she succeeded. I had a hard time accepting it though.

What I did enjoy was seeing Teak and Kevin again in well placed cameos. There was a lot of great emotion from Drew’s friends and the scene in the hospital really got to me. Ms. Church grabbed my attention and put my feelings through the wringer when she described the hero’s frustration, worry and fears. What kind of productive life can he have if he never recovers? That was pretty heavy stuff and the author handled it well.

There’s no doubt that the sex between Drew and Luis was hot. Ms. Church knows how to make a reader sweat and the writing was well done.

One character that was a gem was Sapphire. What a hoot and a very nice addition to the story. I don’t think Sapphire was meant as comic relief but certainly he brought a much needed fun element to whatever scene he was in.

Krewe Daddy has a lot going for it. Drama and suspense spices it up while passion ignites the pages as Drew and Luis reconnect and fall in love all over again. I had to refrain from saying more about this book. Ms. Church managed to put a ton of interesting and fascinating twists and turns between the main protagonists and her secondary characters that I had a hard time choosing what to focus my review on. I enjoyed Drew and Luis, I liked the dialogue and was wide-eyed from the criminal element. The author really paid attention to the emotions of her characters and that attention to detail made them vivid and real. This was a gripping and entertaining read but what I really liked was how Ms. Church wrapped up the happily ever after. It was so romantic and complete. Now that’s the way to do it.

Accurately capturing what it feels like to be a teenager isn’t easy. This is one of those rare books that knows exactly how to talk about complex issues like homelessness, abuse, depression and homophobia without talking down to or alienating its audience. Older readers, especially those who have personal experience with any of these issues, will be catapulted back to the wonder, pain and confusion that can come with living on the cusp of adulthood.

Because this story jumps around in time I finished the last page wishing we could know more about the years of Tucker’s life that happen between his time spent as a terrified homeless youth and the man he eventually becomes. A few clues are sprinkled throughout the story to connect his teenage and adult selves but I’d still love to see a sequel fill in these gaps. Some people transform suddenly while others take years to build the life they’ve always wanted. I cannot help but to wonder to which category Tucker would belong!

It was difficult to pick an appropriate rating for this book. A (consensual) sexual encounter is briefly alluded to and several scenes include graphic depictions of violence that would be inappropriate for younger or sensitive readers. As powerful and inspiring as this book was I think it’s best suited for older teens for these reasons.

If you’ve ever wanted to skip ahead during a difficult chapter of your life to see how everything turns out in the end Phoenix is the perfect book for you.

Good-time girl Cally Morgenstern has never paid much attention to the robots her father built. That is, until one night when her vibrator runs out of batteries. And hey, if you’ve got a six-foot hunky robot offering to relieve your sexual frustration, you’re not going to say no, right? Even if he is sort of…well, definitely…blue.

Cally quickly realizes Blue isn’t the average robot. He’s rapidly acquiring a personality, for one thing. And an avid interest in human sexuality, particularly when it comes to Cally. She’s eager to teach Blue all she knows about sexual pleasure, even if they have to build him a few necessary parts in the process. And even if Blue’s explorations of human feelings touch her own, very human, heart.

Cally Morgenstern lived in a her childhood home with her sister IIsa, brother Jonathan and three robots, Blue, Red and Green. Cally’s dad Vincent created the robots as servants for them and when he died he left them in the care of his three children. Cally could care less about the robots and invested none of her time getting to know what made them tick. Her sister IIsa knew everything about the robots and created programs which she downloaded into them. All Cally worried about was her job and sex; she especially loved her vibrator and, of course, tormenting her siblings.

One day, Blue walked into Cally’s room as she threw her vibrator across the room. The batteries were dead and so was her entertainment for the night. When Blue makes Cally an offer she can’t refuse I knew this story was about to get very interesting.

This was an unusual story in that the object of her affection was a big blue robot that developed feelings for the main character. When he turned his fingers into a supersonic vibrator which almost made Cally pass out, this reader wished there was a big blue robot at her beck and call.

As I said, Love Machine was an unusual tale, it was sexy, unique, and a love story. It was interesting to watch Cally realize her fears and to come to grips with her love for Blue and Blue’s love for her. This was a quick read but an enjoyable one.

Cooking columnist meets her match in the Florida Keys, as she battles a crazed killer along with a raging hurricane.

When she moves to the Florida Keys, cooking columnist Dinah finds herself entangled with a wacky group of artists, fishing captains and rednecks, one of whom may be responsible for two grisly murders. Sassy, funny and glib, yet basically compassionate, Dinah becomes the target of someone’s rage as she works on her new cookbook and tries to adjust to the possibility of a new life and a new love. When a hurricane smashes into her island, she is suddenly on the run for her life. Filled with humor, suspense, mouthwatering recipes and crackling dialogue, this is the story of how a gutsy young woman, hoping to heal her own emotional wounds, succeeds in restoring more than one broken spirit.

All Dinah wanted was some time and space to pull herself together. She got a hurricane and a couple of murders instead.

Dinah earned my respect almost immediately. She demonstrated admirable strength and resilience after the death of her father and the collapse of her marriage by setting out on her own and moving on with her life. Even when her smooth talking ex-husband makes an unexpected and unwanted appearance, Dinah puts him firmly in his place. She is certainly not the sort of woman to let others run over her. As with many well rounded characters, Dinah has a softer side as well. She is a very compassionate person who makes friends easily no matter their background or what other people may think. Her relationship with Amanda, a young girl who doesn’t speak, is especially sweet.

Webb Key is home to many colorful characters, but Rena is by far the most developed. She has a larger than life personality and is very bold and brash. Rena is the sort of person who has no qualms about poking her nose into other people’s business. I’m not entirely sure that Rena and I would get along well if we were to meet. I think I’d find her personality a bit overwhelming. However, Rena is a caring soul and she generally means well. At first I thought that Rena and Dinah might not get along, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly they bonded and how well they worked together to solve the murders.

Someone’s in the Kitchen with Dinah contains not one, but two mysteries. Dinah first begins looking into the murders, but as she begins digging up dirt on the inhabitants of Webb Key, she discovers a second puzzle surrounding her young friend, Amanda. As I read, I was constantly kept guessing as to whether or not the murders were connected to Amanda’s situation. I thought both mysteries were wrapped up well, if a bit too quickly for my taste. I especially wanted to know more about the plot surrounding Amanda. I felt that some events of the past were glossed over a bit too quickly and I was left wanting a bit more detail.

Dinah and Joe’s budding relationship adds just the right amount of romance to this tale. Joe seems to be the complete opposite of Dinah’s ex-husband, so it was easy for me to see why she would be so attracted to him. I do think Joe could have been a bit more rounded. All I really know about him is that he is a very down to earth man with amazing blue eyes and a passion for architecture. Dinah and Joe develop feelings for each other quickly and it isn’t long before their relationship is on the fast track. I was a bit worried that things were moving too rapidly between them. However, Ms. Arau put together a wonderful “happy for now” ending that fit Dinah’s situation perfectly.

Someone’s in the Kitchen with Dinah is certainly a fun book to read. Dinah was easy to like and I truly enjoyed watching her tackle her first mystery. I look forward to reading about her adventures in the future.
