When Autumn finds a sexy, winged statue amongst her deceased uncle’s belongings, she thinks he’ll make a great decoration for her bedroom, as well as her solitary life. What she doesn’t expect is to wake up in the middle of the night and find her statue replaced by a living, breathing, gorgeous man made up of the four elements.

Gabriel’s been a statue for 500 years. He’s lost, confused, and wreaking havoc on the human realm.

In an effort to get Gabriel home, Autumn experiences adventure she’d never even dreamed about. But will they be able to survive the greatest adventure of all- falling in love?

Among the things August inherits from her uncle is a statue. Little does she know the stone figure has the ability to destroy the world.

August takes over her uncle’s castle and begins to clean, tidy and clear out the junk to prepare the building for use as a bed and breakfast. A statue hidden in a corner of her uncle’s study catches her fancy and she decides to keep this for herself and moves it to her bedroom where she cleans it. This is when the fun begins as the statue comes to life in the middle of the night and climbs into bed with August.

Gabriel, the statue come to life, is an Elemental who turned to stone because when he became separated from all of his kind. August’s care and feelings for Gabriel bring him back to life but now his true nature upsets the elements of Earth. He must return to his true home and to keep himself alive until he can find his people, August must go with him.

This is a book with humor and love, in an unusual setting. There are many problems facing Gabriel and August but I honestly couldn’t see how they could sort out the main barrier to their love. They physically couldn’t stay together but also couldn’t physically be apart without disastrous consequences. I loved August’s sense of humor and her “must be a way” attitude. Sweetly confused Gabriel would have melted any woman’s heart. Big and athletic he could change his body to reflect each of the four elements, plus he had wings! Talk about sweep a girl off her feet, how about fly to another dimension? Oh yes, did I mention the dragon? Well you’ll have to read the book to find out about him.

This is definitely a romance set in mystical times but with subtle modern influences. I fell in love with Gabriel myself, pity he’s a fictional character. A perfectly lovely read.

His music moves the world. Can his love move her heart?

Nick Blackthorne knows all about words of love. They’re the reason he’s the world’s biggest rock star. The irony? He turned his back on love a long time ago, lured away by the trappings of fame.

An invitation to a friend’s wedding is a stark reminder of how meaningless his life has become. When he enters that church, there’s only one woman he wants on his arm—the one he walked out on a lifetime ago. But first he has to find her, even if all she accepts from him is an apology.

Kindergarten teacher Lauren Robbins once had what every woman on the planet desires. Nick. Their passion was explosive, their romance the stuff of songs…and it took fifteen years to get over him. Then out of the blue Nick turns up at her door, and all those years denying her ache for him are shattered with a single, smoldering kiss.

But molten passion can’t hide the secret she’s kept for all these years. Because it’s not just her heart on the line anymore…and not just her life that’ll be rocked by the revelation.

Nick Blackthorne made his choice. Fifteen years ago, he chose to become a rock star and walked away from the woman who was the love of his young life. Now he’s a man in his mid-thirties on the verge of making a comeback after a two-year stage absence and he finally realizes what he’s been missing. The women, the money, the fame, none of it means anything to Nick in this new sober light of day. After hitting rock bottom in his personal life, Nick is determined to at least apologize for hurting the woman who was his musical muse. Will she accept and maybe just maybe take him back?

She was supposed to have the happy-ever-after with the rock star. It wasn’t supposed to happen this way, but Lauren Robbins has moved on. Her life was forever changed the day Nick walked out of her life and chose the life of a rock star over their relationship. Then again, a few months after that fateful day someone else entered her life and became the center of her world. And so she had even more reason to move on even if the memories make it sometimes impossible. However, Lauren’s stable life is about to get rocked by the one man who still holds a place in her heart.

Sweet, romantic, humorous, emotional, and erotic, this story has everything that a story of reuniting two lost souls should have. It’s incredibly hard not to get sucked in to this love story from the first page and the pacing makes it an unstoppable read once started. Nick’s epiphany is a long time in coming and his journey towards redemption is bittersweet, but extremely hot. While Lauren musts rectify the decisions she made and battle logic versus heart. Wound recovery and trust needs to be rebuilt if they are to have a chance, yet their physical rhythm together is instantaneous and magic.

A sigh-worthy tale with plenty of witty dialogue, appealing characters, and a reunion to end all reunions. This story is a memorable read from start to finish and any contemporary romance reader who hasn’t given Lexxie Couper’s stories a try should most definitely do so.

Sexy heroine seeks captain for time-traveling submarine.

Indigo de Vargas is determined to exhibit her products at the Great Exhibition in Crystal Palace. The evil Duke Lorca and his shape-shifting servants, however, have thwarted her preparation at every turn. Indigo’s only hope is the brooding captain who appears on her doorstep in the midst of a fierce snowstorm offering to navigate her submarine to the Amazon so she can collect passionflowers for her potions and hallucinogenics.

Steam powers more than the submarine on this voyage. Sparks flying between Indigo and her captain may ignite a passion neither can avoid. Ably assisted by quirky servants, brass goggles and inappropriate accouterments, they must fightthose out to foil her mission.

Steampunk novels are often set in London, but this one is located in Cornwall and provides a welcome change to the genre.

Indigo de Vargas is an unusual woman in the Victorian era. She not only rules her own household but also runs her own business, inherited from her father. When Captain Doogooder, also known as Zane Thoreau, arrives on her doorstep she is at first suspicious, but enlists him in her efforts to collect the necessary ingredients for her exhibit at the Great Exhibition being held by Prince Albert.

They are drawn to one another, but both have secrets that must be revealed before they can give in to their feelings.

I love the way the author wove Cornwall into her story. The biospheres reminded me of the Eden Project in Cornwall, while the introduction of a few words of the Cornish language showed the author knew her location, or had researched it well. Both characters were strong and Indigo in particular was very much an individual who bowed to no one. She places herself against the government and her nearest neighbor, and those who are close to her follow her lead because they love her. Her servants, her submarine crew and eventually Zane Thoreau – all fall under her spell. Zane, who is in the mode of the open shirt, tanned chest adventurer, originally comes to spy on Indigo, but I believe he changed his mind before he arrived on her doorstep. Once he saw her all was lost as his emotions took over.

Although short, this is a wonderful book full of richness of scenery, characters and romance. At the end of the book it mentions this is the first of a series of several books. I suggest you read this one quick before the next one comes out.

During a year-long coma–literally spent in hell–seventeen-year-old Caden Butcher developed a special power. He can speak to demons in their own language. Awakening with this new ability, Caden takes over the family exorcism business and becomes known as the young whiz-kid exorcist to the stars, obtaining most of his work from Hollywood. But what others don’t know is the exorcisms are all staged with the help of his best buddy, Dantalion, a demon he met in while he was in hell.

When an exorcism goes wrong, Caden discovers the demon inside a teen girl is not your normal malicious entity, but an adversary from down under who is hell-bent on Caden’s destruction because of what Caden did to him while in hell.

Now with the help of Dantalion and Caden’s girlfriend Aspen, a skilled necromancer, Caden must track down the rogue demon before he can expose Caden as a fraud and end his reign as the one and only Demon Whisperer.

This is Earth, but not the planet we know. Demons take every opportunity to leave their diabolical world and possess humans. Sometimes they don’t even wait for an invitation.

Frank Butcher is seriously injured in a failed exorcism and his son Caden lays in a coma for a year. When Caden miraculously recovers he doesn’t tell anyone he has spent the year surviving in hell with the help of a demon, Dan. Caden lies about his age so he can do the exorcisms. What he doesn’t tell anyone is the bargain he has made with Dan. In exchange for a life in the real world, Dan possesses the humans and allows Caden to exorcise him.

Caden has it all, a steady job, a girlfriend he adores – who’s also a necromancer – and a demon to assist him in life and business. Then things start to go wrong. Throw in a zombie or two, the International Order of Exorcists and an unknown demon who is out to destroy Caden and you get a really brilliant paranormal story.

Inside Caden is a normal seventeen year old. To the people around him he’s a nineteen year old with an old head on young shoulders. He takes care of a father who has turned to drink, he spends every spare moment with his girlfriend and tries to sleep as little as possible. Why? Because he’s haunted by his time in hell and finds it hard to cope with the nightmares.

Although the problem is serious, Ms Stokes has approached it in a lighthearted way making her paranormal world seem perfectly normal. Caden tells the reader of his time in the netherworld, but we are there with him when he performs exorcisms, meets the zombies, discusses his problems with his girlfriend and fights the demon who is out to get him. I know readers often say they can’t put books down because they’re enjoying them, but in this case it is true. I read this book in two sittings.

Demon Whisperer has a hint of darkness so I would recommend it for the fourteen plus age group, but the lighthearted approach to Caden’s problems reached out and drew me right into the story. Definitely a must for teenage lovers of the paranormal.

There’s no such thing as the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Awakened after being cryogenically frozen for forty years, a death row inmate is cleared of a murder by The Innocence Machine, an infallible piece of machinery that has replaced juries and judges. Set free into a landscape ravaged by disease, he searches for his son, the only witness to the murder. There is only one problem—what if The Innocence Machine was wrong?

He was accused of murdering his wife and sentenced to death. As he faded away, he was still denying his guilt. Why is he waking up now?

Ms. Alvarez has written a very interesting story about the future after the apocalypse has arrived. Her main character is a man who is “dead”, but rises again. He was frozen and is brought back to life. However, life has changed irrevocably. The author gives her main character a quest: To find his only living son and reunite with him. It’s a noble cause, but it doesn’t turn out like he planned.

I liked the way the author used the Innocence Machine to prove he wasn’t the murderer then altered the use later in the story. Just who is telling the truth in this story? Another interesting moral conundrum is the fact that there are few men and women left alive and they must reproduce to provide another generation. There’s no love involved here. If the world as we know it ended, these questions could very well be real ones for the survivors.

Ms. Alvarez uses the trauma of devastating disease and death and the uncertainty of life to create a new world where a doctor likes to play “God”. He uses the Innocence Machine to rid the world of murders (or maybe just liars if he doesn’t like them) and he has his own harem. All these concepts are interesting and even believable given the situation and world she builds for them.

The author gives you just enough hints and ideas to keep you reading this story anxious to see how it all ends. The ending is ironic and made me thoughtful. While the world we have now has problems, just how much better would it be with less people and less government? This story will give you a clue.  Get a copy of it and see what you think.

Journey to a strange land — America.

The launch was nothing, compared to the landing

A Russian Cosmonaut, codename Sparrow, crashes in the Kansas milo fields during the early days of space travel. Ex-army and local farmer, Will Keller, rushes to help the crashed pilot and finds a figure in a spacesuit strapped to an ejector seat. An attempt to assess the injuries reveals the space pilot is a woman.

More concerned with the woman’s health than the fact she’s Russian, Will takes her to his farm. Too bruised and injured to escape, the woman recovers over the ensuing days and reveals her name is Natalya. The days pass and Natalya discovers America is not as her teachers have led her to believe.

Will and Natalya have a growing attraction to one another but know there’s no future for them. Natalya must return to Russia while Will needs a life free of complications. Neither wants to address why they have not gotten in touch with their respective governments to arrange Sparrow’s return to Russia.

Set in the early 1960s, “Sparrow’s Flight” brings together two people from opposite streams of life. It presents the world from their point of view rather than the historical side. Will’s patriotic duty vies with his longing to do right by the woman who has literally landed on his farm and crept into his heart. Natalya is enthralled by the clothes, food and way of life in America and has difficulty aligning what she sees with the Russian version of life in the USA. Will is kind and protective, unlike any man she’s ever met in her homeland.

The story has no electrifying moments, but is a good portrayal of the world of the early 1960s as seen through the eyes of individuals. There was a distinct lack of tension in the interaction between the main characters. The circumstances surrounding their meeting sounded matter of fact rather than exciting. The possibility was there but the characters rationalized everything so the tension was removed.

“Sparrow’s Flight” is well written and pleasant to read, and the author has done his research well and is to be commended for this. He provides an unusual approach to historical events and although not startling, it’s a good book to while away an afternoon.

The Season has only just begun, but already Ambrose Benson Earl of Hawthorne is bored. That is, until his brother offers him a challenge. Something worthy of his particular talents.

The object: The girl hiding behind the potted plants: the one in the horrible dress.

The Goal: Turn her into the envy of the ton. A lady suitable for a duke.

But there is just something about the lady. In spite of all her social misgivings, something inexplicably draws him in, making him want to waltz with the wallflower.

An entertaining glimpse of London’s Season during the Regency Period, Waltzing With The Wallflower races along with humor, shallowness, and boredom of young noblemen who don’t consider the damage they may do when they make a bet involving a misfit “too-old” debutante.

Cordelia, with disgraced parents, is sponsored for a Season by an aunt and uncle, but her reputation, not of her own doing, makes her prospects of finding a husband slim to none. She hates the whole process.

Ambrose, Earl of Hawthorne, with a plan to make Cordelia a person of interest to the men in order to win a bet, asks to court Cordelia. He suggests clothing style, manners, etc. and then sees to it that she gets invitations to all the “right” places. He, his twin brother Anthony, and friend Colin Wilde see that her dance card is always full, with Ambrose dancing all the waltzes with her. Soon all the eligible men are showing her attention.

As Cordelia’s true personality, her quick wit, and her natural beauty emerge, Ambrose’s plan works almost too well. The fallout from a thoughtless bet and the price to be paid are predictable. The locations and events of the Season are the standards in Regency novels, but the creative way the plot unfolds with a sparkling humor keeps the reader turning pages.

Waltzing With The Wallflower, a seven-two page novella, is brief but it is well written with characters who hold one’s attention—a delightful escape from the mundane world.

At the end of the story, there are several pages of excerpts from other works by Ms. Van Dyken and Ms. Sanders to whet a reader’s interest as well.

Some women age well. Hailey doesn’t age at all. She knows she must be some type of paranormal yet she’s never met another being like her… until she meets Oro. This arrogant, handsome dragon shifter claims she is his mate, and insists they bond immediately.

Oro is a golden dragon shifter. He is handsome and strong and a dragon so he doesn’t understand why Hailey refuses to bond with him. He covers her with molten gold and sets her body ablaze, yet she continues to refuse his advances. What more can a female dragon want… than him?

Life can be complicated when you know you aren’t human, but don’t know exactly what you are. Hailey has no idea what she is, only that she doesn’t age, and men rarely can handle more than one romantic encounter with her. When she and her companion, Ember, step across the threshold to Oro’s high end jewelry shop, she’s drawn to the gold in the cases, and decides this is the job they will take: as assistants to the owner himself.

Oro recognizes immediately that Hailey’s a dragon, and more importantly, his mate. He accepts her as his ‘assistant’ for the time being, and sets out to make her more than that. After all, he is a prime specimen of male dragon, rich and available: what more could Hailey desire? As for Hailey, she’s delighted that Oro is a match for her, but she wants to be wanted for herself, not just because she’s that rarest of beings, a female dragon. She wants his heart, not just the mating bond. Can Oro give Hailey what she wants as well as what they both need? Is there a perfect match or just the shared attraction of the gold between them?

Cynthia Sax has written a hot but endearing story of one dragon’s search for love, liberally laced with lots of lust and passion. This world is an intriguing place, with paranormal living side by side with humans, and strange friendships in place. The characters are well defined with humor and personalities unique to each. I like that Hailey’s best friend, Ember, is a wolf shifter with a pet Chihuahua, and is fully aware of the pitfalls that surround Hailey.

Hailey is a wonderful character, loyal to her friend, and determined to find her place in the world. There’s a vulnerability to her, in spite of the dragon strength she has, because she wants to be loved, not because she’s a dragon, but in spite of it. When Oro tries to claim her as his mate, she holds back, hoping he can prove that she means more to him than just what she is. I love Hailey’s determination to be reckoned with as an equal, not a mating toy. She’s smart, sassy and gives as good as she gets.

Oro is strong, rich and yet lonely. He has despaired of ever finding his true mate, and has been willing to settle for much less before Hailey appeared in his store. Once he sees her, touches her, he knows she’s his mate, but must find a way to win her, proving to her how much she means to him. I like Oro’s sense of humor, and his sneaky ploys to try to win Hailey to his side.

There’s a terrific cast of secondary characters in this, from Ember the wolf shifter sidekick to Russ, Oro’s partner, a red haired, freckled vampire with a wanna-be vamp girlfriend. Each character brings a unique bit of flair to this hot little story, and nothing is hotter than Oro’s seduction of Hailey on his office desk. The subterfuge he uses and the lengths he goes to win Hailey will delight anyone who likes hot and delicious happy ever after in a story.

When Jordan Lance isn’t poring over spreadsheets for Books and Brew, she’s fantasizing about the store’s landlord. Too bad she’s squarely in Gabriel’s “just friends” column. Jordan’s prepared to pine forever—until she meets Casey. The handyman is hot, handsome, charming…and Gabriel’s best friend. Suddenly her wicked fantasies are porntastic times two.

Casey has suspected his friend’s interest in Jordan. If he can push them together, he might get Gabriel off the bimbo train he’s been riding. The plan? Jealousy. And it’s working. It’s not long before Gabriel’s deeper feelings for Jordan emerge. Problem is…so do Casey’s. What happens when two friends want the same woman? Red-hot ménage, baby.

Two gorgeous men exploring every inch of her body? Um, yes please! Jordan doesn’t know if threesomes are considered acceptable, but she’s sure of one thing—being this bad feels far too good.

Jordan never imagined jumping back into the dating scene would lead to not one, but two men vying for her attention!

Secret lustful fantasies about her hot landlord have gotten Jordan exactly nowhere except sexually frustrated. Well, that and ganged up on by her well meaning girlfriends. A hasty promise, an A/C on the blitz and a really handy, handyman soon force Jordan and Gabriel to admit to their feelings and take the plunge that pushes them straight out of the friends arena forever.

The second book of the Cocktail series shines its spotlight on the insecure, introverted bookkeeper for Books & Brews, Jordan Lance. Let me tell you, this girl knows how to create a daytime fantasy! If only she had the courage to act on those desires. It was fun to watch her “pull up her big girl panties” and decide to give Casey a chance. I had no trouble buying into the premise of best friends (Jordan and Gabe) without the benefits scenario. Casey is the perfect catalyst to force Gabe to see what he would lose by not taking a chance with Jordon. But what if Casey isn’t just playing at being interested in Jordon? If two’s company, threes a guaranteed everybody gets naked party! (Insert Party Rock Anthem here.)

Ms. Carr does a fine job of packing plenty of detail and tension into this novella to give me time to get to know all three protagonists. If you read Party Naked, Stephanie and Jared’s story, you met them all briefly but it was merely a tease to see how and when they would get together.

There are glimpses into both the past and the present for all three characters to give them a solid foundation. In fact, Gabriel’s “past” manages to throw a minor ripple into their otherwise comfortable, if not unconventional, threesome. I liked how Ms. Carr handles a situation that could have been blown completely out sorts. Communication is an amazing solution to all sorts of problems.

The relationship between Casey and Gabe goes back quite a few years and is completely platonic. It was easy to see they care about one anothers happiness. Though almost complete opposites they totally compliment each other.

The writing is smooth and flawless without a lot of crazy timeline jumps I often see in short stories. When I pick up an erotic short I know that the sexual attraction is going to be pretty much instant and the action is going to be fast and furious. I expect it. Ms. Carr still manages to build the anticipation and tension before rewarding her readers with a chemical explosion hot enough to scorch your e-reader. The use of daytime fantasies kept the heat building steadily without overwhelming the real action.

There are two more single ladies at Books & Brews (what a clever concept, BTW) who are ripe for their own spicy HEA. I’ll be keeping an eye out for the Sophie and Jayne to meet their matches, hopefully, in the near future.

For now, pick up the second book in Mari Carr’s new Cocktail series. A little bit of vodka, a splash of OJ and a whole lot fun.

Transplanted Boston executive, Emily Driscoll, is taking San Antonio by storm. A take charge kind of woman, she controls her business and personal relationships with the same ruthless efficiency. Her secret desire, however, is to give control to a strong man who will show her a little discipline and a lot of love. A naughty sex toy party has armed her with the weapons she needs to surrender. If she can only find the right man to wield them.

General contractor, Kevin Brandt, has the right tools in his belt to keep a lady happy. He wields a flogger and a hammer with equal skill. He’s on the prowl for a strong woman who will trust him with her body. It takes only a little coaxing to get this button-downed Northerner to put herself in his clever hands.

A weekend playing with Emily’s toys shuts out the rest of the world. But come Monday, social rules and an old flame threaten to sever their binds. They have to fight to keep their new-found delights from swirling down the drain.

What do a sexy, cut general contractor and a powerful, successful businesswoman find in common? To start with–a pretty, pink bag of ‘edgy’ sex toys…

Emily, executive vice president in a large national company, is tired of looking and feeling bored. For her 33rd birthday she treats herself to a bag of sex toys at a party given by a good friend. Many of her new toys suggest that the powerful, control-driven woman is wishing for a submissive role in bed.

She finds just what she’s longing for in Kevin, the new contractor she hires to redo her master bedroom suite. Aside from the obvious, ‘works well with hands’, Kevin is tall, lean and gorgeous. He’s also an intense, sexually dominant man who immediately sees the possibilities in a relationship with a woman like Emily .

The attraction between them is irresistible. After a home cooked dinner, Kevin takes Emily up on her invitation for him to lead her. Eager and willing, he takes her on a path she’s never been down before to the most fulfilling and fabulous sex she’s ever had. Neither one wants to give up their new found joy in each other. But too soon Emily’s past shows up on her doorstep to interfere.

This roaring hot tale is full of interesting surprises and great ideas! I was thoroughly entertained on every level. I enjoyed how Ms. Cayto led the reader through the emotional and sexual adventure of Emily’s life which was a personal revelation at a critical time. Kevin is perfect for this experience and I hoped that the two would make their way to a happy ever after because he made that so easy to envision.

Great characters, new horizons, exciting fun, amazing sex…Wet Ride has it all. I recommend this great little read to everyone.
