INTERVIEW: MAGGI ANDERSEN

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Maggi Andersen, whose latest book Murder in Devon was released in February. She saw a news article on the evening news and it set off the idea for the book. She had to do a lot of research for it, however, including two trips to England.

She has another book coming out this month, The Reluctant Marquess, and she will be having a Virtual Book Tour next week to promote the release. I asked her to tell us about it.

Charity Barlow wished to marry for love. The rakish Lord Robert wishes only to tuck her away in the country once an heir is produced.

A country-bred girl, Charity Barlow suddenly finds herself married to a marquess, an aloof stranger determined to keep his thoughts and feelings to himself. She and Lord Robert have been forced by circumstances to marry, and she feels sure she is not the woman he would have selected given a choice.

The Marquess of St. Malin makes it plain to her that their marriage is merely for the procreation of an heir, and once that is achieved, he intends to continue living the life he enjoyed before he met her.

While he takes up his life in London once more, Charity is left to wander the echoing corridors of St. Malin House, when she isn’t thrown into the midst of the mocking Haute Ton. Charity is not at all sure she likes her new social equals, as they live by their own rules, which seem rather shocking. She’s not at all sure she likes her new husband either, except for his striking appearance and the dark desire in his eyes when he looks at her, which sends her pulses racing.

Lord Robert is a rake and does not deserve her love, but neither does she wish to live alone. Might he be suffering from a sad past? Seeking to uncover it, Charity attempts to heal the wound to his heart, only to make things worse between them. Will he ever love her?

Maggi has been writing more of her life, but she didn’t seek publication until quite late. She’s been published since 2008.

She writes the first draft pretty quickly; then, in the second draft, she strengthens themes and builds the characters now that she’s more familiar with them. The second draft might also include a structural edit. The third draft requires a copy edit, checking language, dialogue, facts, words, and punctuation.

Maggi’s currently working on the second book of a Regency romance trilogy: Mayfair Spies Taming a Gentleman Spy. The first book in the trilogy, A Baron in Her Bed comes out in September with the third book, What a Rake Wants being released next year.

She loves hearing from her readers and they often tell her what they want to read, she told me.

“It’s helpful, and it’s the reason I’m writing about Regency spies,” she said.

She’s also reading Joanna Bourne’s spy books and said, “They are great!”
Maggi lives in a historical Australian country town.

“It’s a charming little village with pretty gardens opened to the public in Spring. We get lots of tourists visiting the antique shops and cafes, particularly in tulip time. Very English really,” she said. “My writing space is a small study off the kitchen, too near the fridge, as it turns out. I can look out the window on the pretty garden with a stream and ducks.”

She doesn’t often suffer from writer’s block, but when she does she just begins to write anything—even if it seems like it’s rubbish, she can always go back and improve it.

Finally, I asked her what she would do if she could do her journey to getting published all over again.

“I’d try harder to get an agent, which would have structured my career better, but I’m not sure it’s so relevant now. I’ve had an Amazon Regency bestseller without one. My husband is a lawyer and reads the contracts. I do all my own promotion. Some writers would certainly benefit from one though.”

Waiting for word from him, wondering where he is, she has no real future until she spies his car in a parking lot and starts asking questions.

When Professor Peter Shayne uncovers a driver’s license concealed in the trunk of the T-Bird he’s just purchased, he tracks down Nina for more information. As they follow clues together, Peter finds himself attracted to this woman, but what if they locate her husband? How can he declare his love for her if she’s still married?

Torn and confused by the unfolding secrets of the boy she loved and married, Nina doubts she can trust her growing feelings for Peter. She must discover her husband’s whereabouts, even if the truth hurts.

Living in limbo can sap a person’s courage and destroy dreams—a truth Nina Kirkland comes to realize more every day. However, a canary yellow T-Bird she would know anywhere brings back memories and hurt. It also sparks an old need to compete, plus it brings Dr. Peter Shayne PhD front and center in her life.

Twenty-four-year-old Nina, true to her vows and promises, looks at no man as a possible romantic partner. She’s a wedded woman without a wedding night and has been for two years. The romance and love part of her life is on hold. However, the caring, precious, patient love that gently wraps around her like a magic mist rejuvenates her courage and gives her hope. More than that, it gives her a companion that loves her ‘little-girl-tomboy’ side that shows as she relates to her fourth graders, the competitive car racer side and the compassionate, caring sides that shows with her uncle, friends, and young students.

Fresh from his latest scandal, vampire playboy Dante Dellacourt has been given an ultimatum—take a consort and settle down or be disowned.

Exiled by her pack, the werewolf Kaja is stolen from her frozen plane and awakens in a foreign world. Frightened and alone, she savagely fights for her freedom.

When Dante and his Fae cousins are called to defend the gnomes of the marketplace from their feral prize, he discovers that Kaja glows like no other consort he has ever seen. Exotic and wild, her body calls to him in ways he had not dreamed possible.

In order to claim his werewolf, he must first tame this ferocious beauty. But to earn her submission, will Dante be forced to unleash his inner beast?

On the vampire plane as well as the Seelie realm a single name strikes fear and awe into the inhabitants…Dante Dellacourt.

Ginseng, a commonly used ingredient sildenafil buy in canada for the preparation of herbal medicines. The research team looked for an association between erectile dysfunction and mental canada from generic viagra Visit Your URL condition of depression. Already there are lots of difficulties in india generic tadalafil life, including 1 a lot more will use it with more than satisfactory results. buy viagra The information might as well not exist. Okay, so maybe Dante doesn’t inspire fear as much as sexual lust. However, few people make the mistake of disrespecting this vampire royal.

We initially met Dante in author Sophie Oak’s first foray into the paranormal genre with Bound. Dante was essential in the rescue of his cousin’s, the Seelie King’s, bond mate, Meg. He impressed me then with his strength of loyalty and character. It’s that character that is a central theme in Beast.

Dante has always been the underestimated playboy. So much so, he too believes his “job” in the family empire is to party and look pretty…until he met Kaja. A werewolf cast out from her home, Kaja was merely trying to survive when she was captured and sold to the gnomes for their tournament auction. Kaja has been more animal (beast if you will) than human for so long she has trouble acclimating into a world where she’s expected to wear clothes and bathe regularly.

Dante is in the position of needing a consort, also known as a wife or bond mate. Kaja glows as no other consort Dante has ever met, even Meg. These two mismatched and misunderstood souls will fight each other and anyone who threatens their mate for the chance to be together.

I became so immersed in Ms. Oak’s world building with Bound I didn’t see how she could top herself. Honestly, I was willing to settle for simply enjoying Beast as a follow-up to Meg, Cian and Beck’s story. It was that and so much more.

Dante has perfected the cocky, self-assured, bad-boy fun persona. It’s who he is but at the same time it isn’t. It takes provoking his inner beast to prove dominance over his mate and protect the woman he grows to love and admire. Do you see the significance of the title? Brilliant!

I had doubts about Kaja as Dante’s leading lady. Ms. Oak paints her as an abused wild animal to Dante’s refined royal status. Kaja had a lot to learn to survive in Dante’s world. Like any true Alpha female, Kaja doesn’t simply meet the challenge, she runs to face it. I fell in love with her honor and courage right along with Dante.

I would be remiss in not mentioning that fans of Sophie Oaks other series will be thrilled to see some familiar faces…sorta. I won’t give away that particular treat you’ll have to read the book to see how she performs her magic. Beast is an excellent story that picks up where Bound left off. You’ll receive a richer enjoyment Dante and Kaja’s story if you read Bound first.

Ms. Oak’s characters rarely, if ever, fall in love at first sight. Lust at first sight is a different matter. While they almost always feel chemistry and/or sexual attraction, she allows the true passion and love to build slowly throughout the story. Beast is bathed in tension and sizzling descriptive sex. If you don’t want to be in the room with these people, don’t read this book. However, if you crave vivid writing, carefully crafted dialogue, and plots so thick you’ll need a knife; Sophie Oak is the story teller for you. I hope you’ll join me on this sensational journey sure to have you searching for your own Faery story.

Ida Deloraine intends to build herself a new life and a new catering career after a painful divorce. When the much younger Ethan Holt moves in across the street, an innocent flirtation quickly becomes serious when the two realize their age difference is no barrier to all-consuming passion. But Ethan is the exact opposite of what Ida is looking for in a sexual partner. In her eyes he is young and vibrant, with his life and his dreams still ahead of him, whereas hers are all in the past. Can Ethan, who is fighting his own demons in the form of a car accident, failed marriage, and forced career change, convince Ida to overcome the past and live for the moment? And just who is educating who in this cougar encounter?

Ida Deloraine just can’t stop watching and fantasizing about her much younger new neighbor. But she knows nothing can ever come of her desire … or can it?

Ethan Holt felt Ida’s gaze on him from the moment he started moving boxes from the van. He didn’t know who it was, but the heat was evident from the start. Finally, he takes matters in his own hands and makes a neighborly visit.

Though neither of them intended for the instant surge of desperate heat between then, it was there. Ida has scars, both physical and emotional, from her failed marriage. Ethan has baggage of his own. But they can’t deny the need they have for each other.

Educating Ethan starts out with a flush of need from our older heroine who all but drools at Ethan’s sexy, half-dressed body. She’s a bit shamed by her feelings but it’s really the first time she’s been turned on like this since her divorce. She adopted cheapest levitra this strategy and offers simple clothes in a limited palette. Ethan pushes Ida right out of her comfort zone from the start. He’s forward and deliberate. He’s also very sweet. And very, very sexy. I like a man who knows what he wants and goes after it. He’s not aggressive, but he’s persistent and wears Ida down quickly.

Still, even after they heat up the sheets, she doesn’t think she can give him what she thinks he needs. She pulls away … he moves closer. Ida never stands a chance!

Though the sex in this short story is vanilla, it’s steamy and erotic. I just fell madly in love with Ethan and could eat him up with a spoon. He’s both amazing and realistic, and just exactly what Ida needs. The author doesn’t waste words, just tells it like it is. We know exactly what each character is thinking and feeling and while, I’m not sure Ida and Ethan will make it forever and always, I do think they’ll have a strong relationship full of fun, conversation and adventurous sex for many years to come.

Educating Ethan was a good story and I’m very glad I chose to read it.

Moments before her death, medieval history student Lilly Marten mysteriously arrives in the year 1503, where soldier Gabriel Sutherland has been expecting her arrival.

For the first time in his life, Gabe can have a woman of his own and Lilly is the one.

Lilly Marten lives alone, her quiet life the result of a highly sensitive photographic memory. That changed when she arrived in the year 1503 seconds before Toronto’s popular C.N Tower came crashing down on top of her. Now she was never alone. Gabe was always near. With his unbelievably perfect features and intense green eyes, he is not a man easily ignored. Yet, uncertainty about her new life leaves Lilly with no choice but to put faith in a man she fears and whose strong physical presence causes her to desire more than just his trust.

This time travel novel has it all!! No Matter When has the past, present and future; love, hate and friendship; and a well thought out plot that is developed beautifully. What more could you ask for?

In the future, there’s a technology that can be used for good or evil. If used properly, it can save lives. If it falls into the wrong hands, it can be used to change the future and for other wicked pursuits. Now five people, from different walks of life and times, are in a race to save the past and the future.

Lilly’s whole world changed the moment her mother died. In an instant, her foundation was demolished and she was left alone. In the accident that took her mother from her, Lilly gained something she was ill prepared for, a photographic memory. At a young age, she must learn to cope with her new ability. She tells the one person she thinks may understand and help her through this problem, but he’s unable to comprehend the situation and abandons her. This event forms her present existence. She works hard to not reveal her ability and in turn, she’s introverted and unable to trust anyone ever again.

None of them know why they were sent to this particular place in time, but from the moment Lilly arrives, everything begins to change.

Finally, all the pieces are in order. The professor responsible for their time travel has revealed the reason for their continued existence. What may have started out as an experiment on his part now has a purpose. The five of them must work together to thwart a conspiracy. Along the way, they also find friendship and love.

This story may be about the blossoming romance between Gabriel and Lilly, but I truly believe the underlining message is of loyalty and friendship. These five people were sent to the past for reasons unknown to them. They bonded over the hardships and the commonality of their situations. No Matter When is so much more than a romance.

Lilly and Gabriel are two people who are astonishingly different, but at the same time amazingly similar. I enjoyed reading their adventure and how they grew as people. It was not an easy road for them, but I’m glad I was able to read about how they eventually came together.

No Matter When appears to be book one in the series, Out of Times. Beyond that, I have absolutely no idea what will happen next in this series or when. I found very little information on Ms. Adams and her books. I have noted this talented author and I plan to keep a look out for her future works and the next book in this exciting new series. She’s written an amazing tale, captivating characters and a promising universe.

There’s no time like the present to experience No Matter When. This is a riveting novel that will take you back in time, make you contemplate the present and question the future. It’s not to be missed!

Sometimes it takes just one kiss…

Doomsyear, Book 1

Kylie Mitchell lives in a world of monsters. Thanks to a military experiment gone viral, over half the population is gone and most of what remains has mutated into storybook werewolves and vampires. In this new Earth, only the tough survive, and Kylie has more than enough reason to want to be left alone.

When the Council of the Wise decrees that she must mate with a potent vampire and a powerful werewolf, Kylie resents their intrusion into her self-imposed exile. As one of the last humans on Earth, she always assumed she’d be safe from the super-psychics’ machinations, and she’s not ready to trust her heart to anyone.

Michael and Christian share no great love for each other, but they have one thing in common—their long-time desire for Kylie. Determined to ensure she doesn’t spend the rest of her lonely life wallowing in needless guilt, they choose to put aside their differences and work together, never allowing her time to think as they seduce her body and mind, hoping their love will tempt her heart to open to them.

Yet just as she begins to bloom under their fiercely protective attention, a twisted and monstrous figure from the past rises up, threatening to destroy everything…

Sometimes you just need to kick some monster butt.

I’ve heard great things about Ms. Bast’s books. Lots of good things. To be honest, I’ve got a couple of them on my shelves but I hadn’t had time to read them. Until this book. Any reader wanting a taste of her work need look no further than The Twisted Kiss. Enter Michael and Christian. They don’t like each other. Well, why not? One’s a vamp and the other’s a wolf. Duh. They probably shouldn’t like each other, but there is one person they do like–Kylie. Talk about heat! Phew! I needed a couple cool drinks to get through this book. The boys steam up the pages trying to convince Kylie she’s worthy of being alive and they are worthy of her.

Although I wanted to hang around with these characters a bit longer, I have to say the length of the book is just right. There’s the right amount of heat and story and it is fast paced. No goofing around here. There are some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. And yeah, I loved not being able to tell what would happen next. It kept the story line fresh for me.

Hell on earth.

That’s what it’s like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel.
It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts—immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.

At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn’t told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous.
What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

Lucinda Price can’t win for losing. After a millennium of reincarnations, she and her one true love, Daniel, have found each other once again… only to be torn apart for an unknowable amount of time. Being apart is more than just a torment for Luce, its pure hell on earth. Literally and figuratively, because she’s being hunted and hounded by every fallen angel imaginable. Will Daniel return in time to keep her safe? Or will her well-being fall to someone a little closer to her? As is the way of their relationship, only time will tell.

Lucinda’s character really blossoms into a more life-like person in this second novel. In the previous book, Fallen, she was completely obsessed with Daniel, bound and determined to do whatever it took to catch his eye, no matter how hard he tried to discourage her. When we meet her this time, she’s more cautious and open-minded about her relationship with the fallen angel. Although she’s still desperately in love, her eyes have been opened to the imbalances between the two of them. These tadalafil from cipla appalachianmagazine.com touches are not normal touches. This includes maintaining overall fitness with regular exercise, buy viagra in bulk a balanced diet and stress-controlling techniques for faster results. However, she doesn’t completely give up on him, either. She and her friends work out ways to help Luce discover more about her past lives in an effort to make understanding Daniel easier.

Daniel also comes around in a serious way. He’s given up on keeping her at arm’s length and is embracing having her back in his life, even when he’s promised not to see her. His fear of losing her all over again is front and center, however, making dealing with Luce on equal ground near to impossible. He tries to protect her and ends up pushing her away even more. Despite all of his clumsy and failed efforts with Lucinda, he always does what he thinks best and her safety is first on his list. If they can ever find a way to be together for eternity and be happy, he is everything that she’ll need.

Torment is a magical and often heartbreaking story of two people who want to be together, even need to be together, but can’t for many reasons. Watching them fight through heaven and earth to find a way to be with the other, even if just for a few moments, makes it all worthwhile. It gives you hope that, in the end, everything will have been worth the fight, no matter how harrowing or horrifying. For Lucinda and Daniel, true love does exist, even if it’s worlds away for now.

A winter trip into the forest for four becomes a fight for survival.

Four people gather to close their remote mountain cabins. For the brother and sister, these days offer them an opportunity to come to terms with their nightmarish upbringing. The professional athlete must face the end to his career and try to find a purpose for the future. He brings with him a woman who shields her wounded heart beneath her perfect body.

Then the ferocious storm hits, trapping them far from civilization. Whiteout is a battle for survival. It also lays bare the complexity of human vulnerability, strength, and weakness.

As they fight for life, they’re watched by the restless, lonely spirit that knows what it means to battle and lose. Four humans reach Wolf Lake.

Not all will live to leave it.

Caution! Read under a blanket sipping a warm drink in order to ward off the chill of Snow.

From the moment I started reading, an ominous feeling saturated the pages. Before the storm hits, Ms. Munn introduces Dayna, Park, Beacon, and Kandi. Each character is damaged and coping with the hurt in some way. Dayna and Park are still struggling to throw off the crushing influence of their domineering father. Beacon is an athlete whose body is failing him, but he hides an even greater injury to his soul. Kandi is beautiful on the outside, but the ugliness of her childhood has left her emotionally and mentally scarred. The persona each character presents to the world gradually begins to crack as they are put to the test and forced to face the ghosts of their pasts. The effective solution of the problem is using Squatting stool that can be easily placed under the commode to provide right posture of pooping which is squatting. deeprootsmag.org viagra cheap no prescription The tan one gets here lasts for many view content viagra samples months or years. Diabetes – Uncontrolled diabetes can affect the penile arteries and nerves, causing poor erection. india cialis online It was both touching and painful to watch the layers of each character peel back. By the time the storm was at its peak, I had already come to care for this hodgepodge of a team and wondered who would make it out alive.

One of the most interesting things about Snow is that there are no villains. Nature is powerful, beautiful, and lethal all at the same time, but never evil. Each character makes choices that put them in danger. Even when they are staring death in the face, none of them blame nature. They scream and cry as they struggle, but they shoulder the responsibility for their actions. There are moments when Dayna and Kandi can’t help but admire the beauty of the snow even though it might very well freeze them to death.

Unlike many fast paced suspense stories I’ve read in the past, the pacing of Snow is steady, methodical, and relentless. I wasn’t racing through the pages, but I also couldn’t stop reading once I started. I simply had to know which characters were going to survive. I felt as if I was plodding through the snow next to them as they pushed their bodies beyond the point of exhaustion. I could feel the cold and fatigue creeping into their bones, and I was pulled into the atmosphere of the story so much that I needed to snuggle under a blanket as I read.

As much as I would have liked all the characters to survive to the end, I knew from reading the blurb that wouldn’t be the case. Even though I went into the story knowing there would be at least one casualty, it didn’t make the loss any less heartbreaking. I must warn readers that the injuries suffered by one character in particular are hard to take and certainly not to be read by anyone who is squeamish.

Snow is more than a story about a storm. It is a complex and intense tale of four people facing the biggest challenge of their lives and discovering what they are truly made of. The journey to the end of the story is a long and hard one, but I found the ending satisfying and I felt that many of the changes the characters go through are definitely for the better. Readers looking for a different kind of suspense should check Snow out.

This novel moved along quite nicely. I was never bored and found myself unable to put it down. The continuity was exceptional and that is a quite a feat considering all the factors at play. I had no idea what to expect next and I loved every minute of it. The sex scenes were not overly erotic, were well paced, and imaginative, but still tasteful and fun.

Therian Promise story is a continuation of the first book Therian Prey. I would highly recommend they be read in order. As a whole this series has plots with intriguing twists and turns, steamy sexual encounters, and the characters are so charming, you want to get to know them personally.
