Music I write by – Lindsay Townsend

I love music. I think to music and write to music. My first published novel, my romantic suspense, Voices in the Dark was set in the world of Italian opera and the hero and heroine were opera singers. Remember the Puccini Tosca set on location in Rome, with Placido Domingo? That was shown during my research for that book, and I still have the video.

In my English Daughter, the villain had an obsession with the arresting music of the tortured (and all-round weird) Gesualdo, renaissance madrigal composer. I know the hero I’m writing about now, Sir Magnus, has a fine singing voice. In my A Knight’s Vow my hero Guillelm de la Rochelle courts his love Alyson by playing a small harp and singing to her. I sometimes listen to the real medieval music of Guillaume de Machaut, to my classically-nurtured ear full of exotic, Eastern-sounding harmonies. I also enjoy Thomas Tallis, a slightly later composer, especially his Mass for Four Voices.

To me certain composers have certain associations. Beethoven with his energy and sublime slow movements makes me think of that state of shimmering, contented joy of those in love. Schubert makes me think of Gothic romance, dark romance – the knock at the door at midnight….but who is outside? Brahms and Schumann are passion and energy. I listen to them and think of heroes with dark, secret, wounded pasts.

Geral Finzi means the essence of ‘English’ landscape to me, that slightly fey element, even more so than my other favourite, Vaughan Williams.

I can happily tap along to music – a bit of a rush and many mistakes in the quick movements, but I love it. Music somehow opens my mind and imagination, my emotions. It ‘sits’ firmly on my most niggling critic – my inner editor – and allows me to make music in my own way – on the page.

What music do you enjoy to read to or to write to?

Yasmin is haunted by a malevolent spirit. She can hear its voice, feel its presence—and it wants her dead. Her only hope is the protection of the Jackal Prince, the very man she saved from death so long ago.

Siraj Pramtash is overjoyed when Yasmin asks for his protection. He’s been searching for her for years, ever since she healed his mortal wound as a child. He never forgot her striking beauty—or her lavender eyes. Now that she is a woman, Yasmin takes his breath away.

The spirit pursuing her rocks his caravan, but the Jackal will not be moved. In a desperate bid to keep her under his god’s protection, he marries her. But fate has much more in store for them than a mere demon from Kaldaeron.

When the truth is faced head-on, the Jackal’s faith in his god is shaken, yet he is determined to save his princess—or die trying.

“Where once there were six, now only five princes remained in the Golden Desert.”

One of those princes was the Jackal Prince, Siraj Pramtash. I had my first glimpse of the Jackal Prince when he was a child in the first book The Viper Prince and fell in love with the kindhearted boy who cared about the people around him and hated his father’s cruel ways. With each book in the Desert Princes series, I learned a little more about the boy and saw him grow into a man. I also met Yasmin as a child when she saved his life after he was run through with a sword. It also levitra price http://seanamic.com/order-7601 is said to lead to extreme psychological stress and depression can worsen the cancer through elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines. In The Jackal Prince, Siraj is a grown man who comes face to face with the young woman who saved him from death, and who he believes is a gift from the Jackal god. As I watched the story unfold, I was eager to learn what evil was stalking Yasmin. Still young and innocent, she has never known a man’s touch, but she feels a connection to the Jackal Prince — a bond that started that long ago day when she healed him with her magic. It is as if they have known each other their entire lives.

It’s possible each book will stand alone, but I recommend starting at the beginning with book one where Ms. Goings has laid the groundwork for the world of Jikkar and the life, customs, and animals in this dry desert land. I think that if you do not start with book one you may miss out and not get the full enjoyment of the story line and the characters.

I have read many of Ms. Going’s books and have yet to find one that I did not like. She is a brilliant author with the ability to tell a vivid and detail story that will pull you in and make you feel like you are there through the whole tale. Yes, I felt the anxiety and the tension but I walked away in the end with a fabulous sensation and an attachment to the characters. The sex scenes are an added bonus and will heat the blood on these hot summer nights. I’m a fan.

In desperation, Mill decides to anonymously sell her virtue at a well-reputed brothel and kill two birds with one stone—she will have enough money to cover the debt, and her status as a fallen woman will dissuade Lord Wart from claiming her as his bride.

Jasper Goldeby, Marquess of Holder, takes one look at Mill’s piercing green eyes and purchases her favors at double the asking price—a fortune that could support the Harbingers for life. The night Mill and Jasper share astonishes and transforms them both—and Jasper quickly realizes one night could never be enough.

A one night stand leads to love. This story is listed as a Regency Historical and is set in England. The heroine is brave, forthright and practical. The hero is sensual, sensitive and painstaking. They are sympathetic characters that are easy to relate to.

Werewolves, dragons and werecats have gone missing. Working undercover, Jackson Graham of the Paranormal Crime Unit has infiltrated a group trafficking in shifters and he’s on the brink of taking down the criminal network. During a short respite in the case, he visits his pack and runs into Grace. He’s been secretly in love with Grace for years, but this she-wolf is destined to mate with his cousin, York.

But Grace has other plans. She’s refused to run beneath the Claiming Moon with York, and Jackson is the wolf she wants.

They share one night of passion, but must part ways. Jackson is in the middle of an undercover operation and Grace, an investigative reporter for an online paper, is intent on solving the mystery of the missing shifters.

When Jackson and Grace’s paths cross again, he’s the buyer and she’s the contraband.

Shifters are disappearing, and paranormal agent Jackson Graham is going undercover to find the reason why. But before starting the case, he makes a visit home, to see his family. He runs into Grace, the she-wolf he has been secretly in love with for years. He knows he can’t be with her, because she is destined to be mated to his cousin York. But Grace has her own plans for her future, and she isn’t about to run under the claiming moon with York, not when she only wants one man-Jackson-in her life.

After Jackson assumes his role as a wealthy man in search of a shifter to hunt, he is invited to an auction. Imagine his surprise when one of the kidnapped shifters he is offered is Grace, and he realizes things just got much more complicated. Now everything depends on making sure the woman he loves is safe, and the ring is stopped once and for all. Studies further indicated that 80% of all ED problems are low sexual desire, cialis discount online feels pain during intimate activity and pain during intercourse action. Will Jackson save Grace and bring down those responsible for the kidnappings? Will they find and free those shifters still missing? Can Jackson and Grace face down their families to be together?

Claiming Moon is a very enjoyable story, in a world where danger is just around the corner for the shifter population. Ms. McCall has built a world filled with well-defined and real characters, with hopes, dreams and fears, like everyone. It just happens to have more than just humans in it, and those who are more than human are being victimized because of that difference.

Jackson Graham is strong, smart and determined to solve the mystery behind the shifter disappearances. I like his sense of dedication and his family loyalty as well. He is willing to stay away from the woman he loves, because his cousin loves her. I loved watching as he had to rescue her from danger, not knowing how she really felt about him.

Grace is determined and smart, and ready to leave the safety of the pack to live her life her way. She doesn’t want to hurt anyone, but she simply can’t see herself spending the rest of her life with York, not when she loves Jackson. I love Grace for her strength and her sassy spirit, and her ability to not give in under pressure.

This is a fast paced story, with lots of action, both in and out of the bedroom. The secondary characters are supportive and there is a surprise or two to make it really interesting. I enjoyed this, and there is some scorching hot passion between Grace and Jackson that just burns up the pages. I recommend this one for those looking for a short one that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Conrad Muller’s heart is the center of a web of friendships, fights, and love lost and found in a close-knit group of gay men in Orange County, California. Six months ago, Conrad died, and his organs were donated for transplant. A month later, Conrad’s lover, Christian, receives a letter from the recipient of Conrad’s donated heart.

Christian can’t stop thinking about the letter, and he’s not the only one affected by loss. Conrad’s best friend Eban is also brokenhearted, and he’s struggling with his lover Damien, who has always resented living in Conrad’s shadow. Though Conrad is gone, his friends and his lover will have to cope with their grief to move on and find new love.

In the interwoven fabric of life, what happens to a group of people when someone in their circle dies? This is not a light read; it is a deep and emotionally rich, thought-provoking story. I enjoy complex stories and so I enjoyed this story very much. This plot is not exactly like a traditional romance but it is a love story with a hard earned happy ending. This is a compound novel that centers on the lives of two roommates who are struggling to carry on their lives in the face of deep grief. Their hearts hunger for love but their preconceived notions of loyalty and the desire to hang on to some piece of the past will not let them move on with living and loving.

The main character is Christian, whose partner, Conrad recently died and he is grieving deeply. Christian is human and vulnerable; easy to relate to. He’s surly when he’s having a bad day and feels bad about it later. He’s not always perfect but he is always real; I like that in a character. He is torn between his need to stay loyal to the memory of Conrad and his burgeoning attraction to Luke.

Christian’s best friend and roommate is Eban, a policeman. However, research shows many ED situations are cialis 10 mg caused by issues. Because of to their compact measurement, it getting viagra without prescription does not necessitate a wonderful deal of salt to have detrimental affects. 6. Eban is also trying to come to terms with his own multifaceted relationship with the now deceased Conrad. Yet Eban is also tempted by his new attraction to a new man named Darius. Eban is a long-suffering friend and sweet solace to Christian and the two men also fight an attraction to each other while they are trying to sort out their individual love lives.

This story does not follow the neat and tidy lines of most traditional romances. There’s extreme emotional danger to these men from all sides in their intricate interactions as they try and sort out and define what life means now that they have lost Conrad to death. There is also a scene of a violent crime which takes place in the middle of novel which may be too much for gentle readers. Emotions are the central focus of the plot and conflicts and the sex reflects this. The sex is not frequent and is more tightly related to plot than in many stories. But the sex is also hot and poignant and touchingly funny at the same time.

Secondhand Heart is a deep, rich story about life while grieving that switches mid-book to a story about coming out of grief. It has a happy, life-affirming ending that just might have you reaching for your hanky. It’s one of the most satisfying stories I have read in a long time. I know I’ll be thinking of Christian and Eban’s world for a long time to come.

Two gifted, good-looking opera singers, from different cultures and opposite sides of the track in Texas, discover that falling in love is wonderful. But love may not be enough if it interferes with their dreams of success in the ruthlessly competitive world of opera. D.J. McKay’s dream of singing in European opera houses clashes with his rich daddy’s prejudices against such a “sissy” career; his obsession with beautiful Eva Villalobos doesn’t sit well with his socialite mother, either. Meanwhile, Eva strives to help her poor family financially by achieving success on the stage.

So what happens when their passion for each other thwarts their dreams? How can their relationship survive three-thousand miles of separation? Will their ambition to succeed kill the only true love they have ever known?

This is a well-written, interesting tale that brings the opera world and romance novels together in a pleasurable read. Told as a “memoir” to a reporter, Eva uses her own words as well as the autobiography of her fellow opera singer and love, DJ, to fill the reader in on her past. Interspersed between the reminiscing and autobiography, the reader is treated to Eva’s modern day and glimpses of how the past affected the future. This treatment could be confusing, but actually is a unique and fun way to get a backstory.

The pull between upbringing and the opera world affects the choices made by both DJ and Eva. Their upbringing and family as well as their individual choices both affect the road to their relationship. While the ending isn’t the typical “happily ever after” found in many romances, the resolution is satisfying and in keeping with the tone of the entire story.

It is a meaty read, and I needed several days to get through the story. However, the plot and storyline were interesting and able to keep me involved, even when I had to put the book down.

I was worried that having a music background would leave me disappointed, either wanting more detail, or agonizing over clear inaccuracies. Fortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth! The other problem I was worried about was that it would be too detailed, and cater to the opera/music crowd and leave the other readers confused and unwilling to finish the book. I am happy to report, all of my fears were unfounded!

Storylines for the operas in which the characters performed were detailed. What could be a confusing aspect for readers, was actually an addition to the story. The opera plotlines were given a light treatment and didn’t overwhelm me with too much information.

Clean, meaty, and interesting. If you are interested in music or opera, give this a try. If you aren’t interested in this performing art, give it a read anyway; you’ll enjoy the story, too!

It’s soon evident that her would-be killer and Adam’s crusade intersect. The chase takes them from the Yucatan Peninsula to Washington, D.C., to a private island in the Bahamas. And the sex takes them to a new level of physical pleasure. Can they win this chase and escape the danger before the killers strike again? And will the pleasure last Until Midnight and for many midnights after that?

This is a stand-alone story, the second in the series, Nemesis.

A fast-paced and exciting read from the very first paragraph, this story is truly riveting and magnetic in its intensity. Rarely have I found a more erotically thrilling and satisfying affair than the one between this powerfully sexual and dynamic couple. The voracious and undeniable passion they have for each other slams into them the instant they meet and is urgently and immediately answered.

Their fierce attraction creates a raging hunger that they have no desire to deny. This results in an unexpected and unbelievably hot experience that follows them throughout a dangerous and exhausting adventure. Nicole and Adam become competent and exciting partners in this clever and gutsy crime thriller.

The pace and suspense of the story and the explosive energy of the love affair is addicting. There is just the right amount of tension and complexity to the plot, which is compelling in itself. I was impressed with the superior and subtle character development and the nearly flawless flow of dialog. Add to that the chemistry between the highly intelligent and active main characters and it spells winner.

If you appreciate high voltage romance and adventure, and quality writing, then you will want to read this story.

Here is an eloquent quote from this highly romantic tale: “Yes, she craved him. Like sunshine and rain. And for an excitement and delight in living that she had never known until he took her in his arms and loved her with that fabulous body.” I hope you enjoy, Until Midnight as much as I did.
