There’s just something about young love!

I guess I was lucky. I met my husband when I was only 17 (just a few months before my 18th birthday.) I was still in high school, he was already out. We fell in love almost instantly and he couldn’t bare the thought of me going away to school without him. So he applied late and was accepted. We went away to school together! (I must add that he had already been approached by the school to play football and it was just a coincidence that I was going there. But at that point, he didn’t have concrete plans to go and the football coach was the one to help him get in last minute.)

We’ve been together almost 16 years, married for 12-1/2 and still going strong. Not too shabby for a teen romance! 🙂

I read a lot of romantic fiction, and women’s fiction, which almost always has some romance in it. But I also read young adult fiction, the books that cross over a bit into women’s fiction. I absolutely love a coming of age story and throw in some young love, perfect! Some of my favs: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, The DUFF, The Gallagher Girls series.

So what about you?? Do you pick up a YA book from time to time for a little bit of young love??

I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, and some people may have the will power to do that, but sometimes the cover is what attracts us to a book. It’s the first thing we see and what pulls our hand to the shelf to take a further look. So, in my opinion, covers are extremely important. They need to entice you.

It’s really no different that when we’re looking for a mate.

Again, they say not to judge people by their looks, but before you talk to someone, before you get to know their likes, dislikes, passions, you see their face and eyes and smile. And in my opinion, if there isn’t a spark, a tingle…SOMETHING when you look into their eyes, how can you build a relationship?

Maybe it’s my ultra romantic heart in overdrive here…that love at first sight thing! But there’s gotta be something to it!!

I think the same can be said for book covers. You see the cover and it should ignite something in you..something that says “You must read me. You must take me home. You know you want to!” And just like the hot guy who later turns out to be a jerk, you do need to find out what’s inside before you make a commitment, but the cover still matters. That cover gets you to look inside.

At Lyrical Press, Inc, my publisher, they have several graphic designers who do cover art for their books. Fantastic artists! One of the things that immediately drew me to Lyrical was their amazing covers.

For my debut, A Bitch Named Karma, I had no clue what to expect. It was my first book. And what I got immediately sucked me in. Simplistic and sexy…it was perfect!

The next one was Paradise Cove and when I opened the email with the cover art, my jaw dropped. It was amazing!!

For Soap Dreams, I had no expectations, but what they did represents the story: young love!

Thanks so much for stopping by!! Have a great day!!

Why do we read romance?

Is it the flutters of a new romance?? Is it the struggle and fight for love? Is it the steamy scenes?

I think it’s all those things!!

I once read that we read (and adore) romantic stories because they remind us of that time in our own lives, when everything was new and exciting and every touch sent tingles through our bodies. Let’s face it, while many couples do a great job of keeping the spark alive, once you have a mortgage, kids, full-time jobs, etc… you have no choice but to settle into a daily routine. Yes, there is still time for love and romance, but it’s different from how it was in the beginning. You know each other so well, there’s no way it can be the same. And it takes a lot more of an effort than it did in the beginning. Especially with kids, spontaneity becomes a thing of the past.

But reading a romance novel or even watching a romantic movie, can often remind us of those first tingles of love and desire. And who doesn’t like that??

So if you’re looking for something to give you those flutters and tingles, check out A Bitch Named Karma! And for more info about me, please stop by my website and blog!! Thanks for reading my post!
