There’s just something about young love!

I guess I was lucky. I met my husband when I was only 17 (just a few months before my 18th birthday.) I was still in high school, he was already out. We fell in love almost instantly and he couldn’t bare the thought of me going away to school without him. So he applied late and was accepted. We went away to school together! (I must add that he had already been approached by the school to play football and it was just a coincidence that I was going there. But at that point, he didn’t have concrete plans to go and the football coach was the one to help him get in last minute.)

We’ve been together almost 16 years, married for 12-1/2 and still going strong. Not too shabby for a teen romance! 🙂

I read a lot of romantic fiction, and women’s fiction, which almost always has some romance in it. But I also read young adult fiction, the books that cross over a bit into women’s fiction. I absolutely love a coming of age story and throw in some young love, perfect! Some of my favs: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, The DUFF, The Gallagher Girls series.

So what about you?? Do you pick up a YA book from time to time for a little bit of young love??

  1. I certainly do read YA fiction– particularly SF and other speculative fiction!

  4. I do I love YA although all my YA romances usually involve some paranormal or mystery aspect as well. Even when I was a YA I read Nancy Drew and the Fearless series. Now you can often find me reading a YA involving the oh so popular vampires. I recently read Virals by Kathy Reichs loved it.

  5. I read YA but not for the romance. I was a baby straight into marriage too. Once was enough. 🙂

  6. So what about you?? Do you pick up a YA book from time to time for a little bit of young love??

Me? Well not really I usually only pick up if the cover and summary interests me, if it happens to have some young love in the book then that’s just a happy bonus for me!

  7. Reading all types of fiction, and non-fiction for that matter, is essential to my existence. I still reread “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret,” at least once every few years– it never fails to move me and make me laugh.
Today’s YA is different– edgier, less racially stratified, and sexier for sure. Which makes it all the more accessible to my old mind!
I think that keeping in touch with the interests of kids makes us better writers; and reading good YA is one way to do that.

  8. me i ask the author if they want good reviews and then i get the book
all kinds and read up to 3 week and then blog on them

  9. I do occassionally read some YA but not a lot….loved The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books….going through the Twilight series now…up to the third book Eclipse…

  10. I do read some YA, but I have problems with the ones that are geared toward high school kids and are filled with unbridled sex. I think it sets a bad example for impressionable teens.

  11. I’m tempted–especially after perusing the YA section at the library with my daughter this weekend. 🙂

  12. I met my hubby in high school and we also went to college together.
I think my first YA was the Twilight Series.
