A missing domestic-violence counselor. A wealthy and callous husband. A dangerous romance.

Kareena Sinha, an Indian-American domestic-violence counselor, disappears from her Seattle home. When the police dismiss suspicions that she herself was a victim of spousal abuse, her best friend, Mitra Basu, a young landscape designer, resolves to find her. Mitra’s search reveals glimpses of a secret life involving her friend and a Bollywood actor of ill repute. Following the trail, Mitra is lured back to India where she uncovers the actor’s ties to the Mumbai underworld and his financial difficulties – leading her into a web of life-threatening intrigue where Mitra can’t be sure of Kareena’s safety or her own.

Does Mitra really know Kareena?

When Mitra’s best friend Kareena goes missing, Mitra is determined to find out what happened to her. With no evidence of foul play, the police can’t offer much help. Even Mitra’s friends think she should stay out of what they view as a marital squabble. I could feel Mitra’s frustration as she struggles to make others take her seriously, and was very pleased to see Mitra take matters into her own hands. However, as she began to dig into the mystery, she gradually discovers she might not know Kareena as well as she thought. Layer by layer, Mitra steadily uncovers the truth of Kareena’s circumstances. What she finds will change her life forever.

Mitra is a very solid and likable character. She’s warm, caring, and very loyal. I’d certainly want a friend like her on my side if I were in serious trouble. Mitra’s pain and disbelief were palpable as she unearthed some hard truths concerning Kareena. Even though Mitra was at times deeply hurt by her new found knowledge, I admire her loyalty to Kareena and her determination to find out the truth no matter what. Mitra also seems to be at a place in her life where she is struggling to balance her past with her desire to find her current place in the world. Her inner turmoil makes her a very real and relatable character.

I had a very hard time understanding Mitra’s relationship with Ulrich, a relatively new romantic interest. He seemed like a nice guy at first, but as I read, it became clear that something wasn’t right. However, just like Mitra wouldn’t give up on Kareena, she didn’t seem to be able to let go of Ulrich either. While her devotion to those she cares about is admirable, I have a feeling someday she’s going to end up in serious trouble.

I must also mention that I love the way Ms. Kirchner works description into her writing that touches on all five of the senses. All the description in Tulip Season is blended so seamlessly into Mitra’s everyday experiences that it never feels overwhelming.

I truly enjoyed reading Tulip Season and getting to know Mitra. Anyone looking for a mystery with a solid, steady pace that awakens all the senses would do well to pick up a copy of Tulip Season today.

Collin Noonan has the world in his hands, being the youngest top executive at his firm, the envy of all men as well as the lover of many women. Collin along with some of the other executives takes part in a game, a game in which they must date a woman who is basically ‘shy, homely and undesirable’. Collin has won this game every year and this year will be no exception that is until he meets Regina Talbot

Regina Talbot is your average ‘Plain Jane’, she’s never been part of the ‘in crowd’ always keeping to herself and is extremely painfully shy towards men. She never would think that any man would be interested in her, especially that of handsome Collin Noonan.

Watch as Collin and Regina began on a road of self-discovery of themselves as well as the obstacles that will eventually causes problems for their future.

Regina was your average everyday kind of girl, she was not an extrovert and tended to become very shy when meeting new people. She would freeze up whenever she was around men and she dressed for comfort not for style. She worked in the mailroom of Nichols, Tatum and Rutherford marketing company. Her best friend Maxine helped Regina get the job in the mailroom and was also her sole supporter.

Collin Noonan was the type of man women would stop breathing for, he was handsome and knew the power he had over them. Collin was a love ’em and leave ’em kind of guy, always knowing that while he had one woman in his bed his next conquest was right around the corner. He was an executive at the marketing firm where Regina and Maxine worked. Collin along with his associates had a game they played each year where each of the men would bring a woman who they considered homely to a party. Collin has won this game every year and was expecting to win again–all he had to do is find the right woman.

A Special Kind of Woman was a wonderful story which I enjoyed immensely. I loved the characters of Collin, Regina, Maxine and Collin’s Irish family. His cavalier attitude towards women was slowly changed and you saw the other side of the playboy when the one thing he didn’t want to happen happened, Regina found out about the game. I also loved the introduction of Collin’s nine brothers and parents, they rounded out the story and had you laughing and crying. A Special Kind of Woman was just that, special and I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to read a real love story with substance. This story wasn’t just about sex, it showed how even playboys can be vulnerable and changed. How someone as plain as Regina can get a man like Collin to love them just by being herself. Jamallah Bergman had me entranced from the beginning to the end. I hope that she has plans to write stories for Collin’s other brothers which I’m sure will be as good as this one. I’m sure that if you pick up a copy of A Special Kind of Woman you will enjoy it.

Catriona Cameron was once famed for her seductive beauty and charm. Now she saw no one, hiding from the world…and no one dared break through her self-imposed exile.

No one, that is, until Mark Thorburn burst into her home, and Catriona’s darkened world began to have color again. Thorburn, secretly the heir to an Earldom, claimed he was a footman. But Catriona didn’t care about the scandal their passion could cause…for this very touch sparked her back to a life of sensuality, one she thought she’d never have again.

Little does she know that Mark is part of masquerade. One that will end when they become the target of a madman set on revenge. Mark realizes he will have to do more than win her love…he will have to save her life as well.

A happy childhood wrecked and then a determination to survive brings “the murderer’s girls”, Catriona Cameron and her sister, to quite different stations in life. The sister becomes an earl’s wife while Catriona becomes promiscuous, haughty, willful, and inconsiderate of others. She trades on her beauty to get what she wants. If ever there was anyone ‘looking for love in all the wrong places’ it is Catriona. The horrific deaths of her mother and then her father leave her with an emptiness inside that sends her spiraling out of control—then the wreck—her beauty is gone.

The need for redemption is so often associated with the hero, but in The Lass Wore Black the heroine is the one in need. She is so self-absorbed and overwhelmed with her misfortune that she has become a hermit and is wasting away. Her lack of consideration of others is appalling, yet Dina MacTavish, Catriona’s brother-in-law’s aunt, truly cares about Catriona and seeks help from a doctor friend.

Dr. Mark Thoburn, flying in the face of his father’s wishes, follows his calling and becomes a doctor and even spends much of his time in Old Town tended the destitute as well as tending his rich clients. When his friend Dina MacTavish asks for his help, his well-scheduled and orderly life is thrown off kilter and his ‘best laid plans’ do go astray. He seems a direct opposite of Catriona, yet they are drawn to each other. Their interaction makes entertaining reading as they both learn more about themselves than they are comfortable knowing. The maturing pains are sometimes humorous and other times heart-wrenching.

Aunt Dina MacTavish and Sarah Donnelly, Mark’s housekeeper and so much more, are remarkable secondary characters that give the reader a glimpse of goodness that is sincere and loving. Other secondary characters that reach out and touch the heart are Edeen and her two children that make a home the best they can in the dark, deeps vaults of Old Town where poverty and degradation abound. They along with Aunt Dina help work the miracle of Catriona’s redemption.

Karen Ranney writes such graphic descriptions of the misery and horrors in Old Town the reader can almost feel, smell, taste, and hear the hopelessness and dehumanization of the squalor. Also, her development of the antagonist’s personality makes one shudder at the way his mind functions. Even though I had trouble empathizing with the heroine, I admire the compelling writing style of Ms. Ranney that evokes strong feelings. How she weaves together a story of such diverse characters to get to a happy-ever-after for the hero and heroine intrigues.

Left destitute by an unscrupulous ex-boyfriend, Grateful Knight takes her father up on his offer to live rent-free in a house he hasn’t been able to sell. Desperate to make a new start, Grateful tries to overlook the property’s less desirable features, like the graveyard that stretches to her back door. On the bright side, the unbelievably gorgeous cemetery caretaker, Rick, is dead set on helping her feel at home. She vows to take things slow, considering her recent disastrous relationship, but is baffled when she literally can’t keep her hands off of him.

When things in Grateful’s house start moving on their own, another man enters her life—a sexy ghost with a dark secret. Magical forces are at work in the tiny town of Red Grove and they’re converging on Grateful. Solving this ghostly mystery won’t be easy and with the caretaker becoming increasingly jealous of her spectral relationship, Grateful will be forced to choose between the ghost and the graveyard.

Ooh la la!  This is one sexy, fun book!

Grateful Knight is a hot, snarky nurse who discovers she lives in a haunted house (which abuts a graveyard, so makes sense, right?) and also finds she has a thing for the graveyard caretaker.  A huge, weird thing because when he’s around she can not keep her hands off him (he’s one smoking hot sexy guy, so who can blame her?).

Lest you believe that things on the romance front are cut and dried, however, I must mention that she also has the hots for one of her ghosts: Logan, who’s equally hot and can cook a mean roast, to boot.  I admit, I fell for Logan right off the bat and I’m pulling for him to win Grateful’s heart.

The Ghost and the Graveyard has everything I like in a paranormal romance:  plenty of heat, lots of surprises and things that go bump in the night.  It has its share of twists that I didn’t expect, especially at the end, and Grateful was a really cool heroine — smart, snarky and no pushover.

I wasn’t thrilled at how the men acted like spoiled, pouty boys whenever they realized Grateful was undecided about which one she wanted to be with, and a few spots dragged a bit, but otherwise this book was spot on.  It’s the start of what appears to be a promising, fun and sexy new paranormal series.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Successful landscape designer Tania Solares prides herself on living by her own terms, relying on no man to provide for her. But her carefully controlled life takes a turn for the extraordinary when her inquiry into the disappearance of her best friend thrusts her between two warring factions of dragon-shifters. Suddenly Tania’s survival depends on Mac, a newly initiated dragon-warrior who will break every rule to keep her safe.

Now that Tania knows the truth about Dragonkind, returning to her old life is too grave a risk. Ivar, leader of the Razorbacks, plots to decimate the human race, and Tania is just the tool he needs. Despite the danger, Mac cannot deny her a choice: Trade the independence she’s fought so hard to achieve for safety in a magical world, or turn her back on the man she’s grown to love in order to reclaim a freedom that might not last? It is an impossible choice. And yet a sacrifice must be made…

The Nightfuries and Razorbacks are back and neither side is any nicer than they were before. This time the Razorbacks want to capture a high energy female named Tania and use her for breeding and Ivan’s personal pleasure. However, there is one Nightfury who is determined to stop him from doing that and he has friends…

Ms. Callahan has a talent for writing stories with lots of action in them. The world she has created with dragon shapeshifters stays consistent and solid in the books of the series. All the dragons have different talents which makes the story even more interesting. Her romances keep your attention, too.

She makes her main character in this story, Tania, a strong young woman with an independent streak. She tends to stay away from men. That doesn’t work too well when she gets captured by dragons. There are a couple of women at their compound but the rest are all men…

The author weaves a tale of dark and light. The Razorbacks want to control the world. The Nightfuries protect women and fight the Razorbacks. Ms. Callahan makes the wars ugly and with painful cost, as I believe dragon battles would be. With how tough she makes all her characters, you can tell that she was a tomboy in her youth and played hockey with the boys. She doesn’t believe in wimps.

This is the third installment in this series and while each book can stand alone, I have enjoyed reading all the tales. Here’s your chance to see how Tania enters the dragonworld and how she adjusts. I have the feeling the next book will about her younger sister and which Nightfury chooses her, but I could be wrong. I will be watching for the next in the series to find out.

It’s a few days before Christmas, and to her surprise, there’s only one place Cynda Richmond, family wild child, wants to be: Village Resort in Colorado, the ski lodge her family owns. Although she initially plans to spend her holidays travelling through Greece, she decides to stay at home and keeping a close eye on Reid Weller, the lodge’s general manager and a childhood friend who has never taken her seriously.

Reid Weller is content to spend his holidays and his entire life taking care of Village Resort and its guests. He’s felt more at home at the resort and with the Richmond family than anywhere else, with one exception: Cynda Richmond. Since they were children, she has stirred up trouble and chaos with both him and her immediate family. He’s comforted by the fact that normally she enjoys staying away from the resort and her family, especially during the holidays. So when he goes to his private chalet at the resort a week before Christmas, he’s shocked to find a beautiful and naked woman in his bed. Even more surprising, the woman is none other than Cynda.

Cynda claims she wants to spend time at her family’s place, but Reid knows the woman has an agenda. He’ll stop at nothing to figure it out.

Cynda has always had a crush on Reid Weller. When he questions her motives, she does her best to convince him her actions are true. Beyond that, she wants him to see that her love for him is even stronger.

Can Reid take the woman seriously to see more than just an impulsive wild child? Will Cynda get the best Christmas present ever by capturing Reid’s trust and love?

Reid Weller is the general manager of the Village Resort in Colorado which is owned and operated by Donald Richmond, who has know Reid since he was a boy. Reid wants to advance within the company but he has a problem in the form of Graham Iler the marketing director. Graham and Reid do not get along but tolerate one another. Graham has hope that once Donald Richmond retires he will turn the business over to him. He also wants to get his hands on Donald Richmond’s daughter,  Cynda Richmond who seems a bit out of control. What Graham doesn’t know is that Cynda and Reid once had a thing, and Reid’s heart was broken by Cynda.

Cynda Richmond is a fly by the seat of your pants kind of girl. She was arrested for skinny dipping in the hotel pool in Las Vegas which her father saw on national TV. Cynda however has an agenda, she wants to get Reid back and will go to Colorado to try and win him back. Cynda also would like to rebuild her relationship with her dad, but is unsure if she can ever repair the damage.

O Come is a beautiful story of a man who was hurt by the woman he loved and a woman who has not stopped loving the man. Cynda also wants to open her own business but she has a secret that everyone but Reid knows about. Cynda and Reid are the type of characters a reader can invest in and root for. Cynda wanted to live each day to the fullest and Reid was a little more cautious but wanted to be with her. I loved this story, the characters and the whole premise of it. The only issue I had were some editing problems. Graham was described as a African American man but when reading whenever they referred to him they would say “she” or “her” which confused me. I had to go back to re-read the description of Graham to make sure that he was in fact a male character. This happened a few times in the story which was somewhat annoying. However, aside from that, O Come is a good read and one that I would recommend.

Jeremy Brogan’s first day as a night watchman, at the most haunted hospital in the country, may just turn him from a die-hard skeptic into a believer after all.

Jeremy Brogan thought being a night watchman at a hospital would be easy, wandering long, dark, empty halls late at night. It might even get kind of boring after a while…except Jeremy is working at St. Michael’s, the most haunted hospital in the country.

It’s a good thing Jeremy doesn’t believe in ghosts. Everything he sees and hears must have some kind of an explanation, right?

That he had to patrol the fifth floor was bad enough, but never in his wildest dreams did Jeremy think he would wind up in the basement. Now all he wants is out…only the hospital and its inhabitants may have other plans.

Imagine patrolling an abandoned hospital wing at night The only sound you hear is the slight squeak of your shoes as you make your rounds. Suddenly you spot toy ball bouncing in the middle of the hallway. How would you react?

Jeremy accepts his new job secure in the knowledge that ghosts don’t actually exist and that all of the stories he’d heard about St. Michael’s were urban legends. He’s an easy guy to like and the type of person I’d want to be around in an emergency. Even when he’s surprised or afraid taking care of those who need help is his first priority.

With the possible exception of giving birth, no one looks forward to being hospitalized. Even the most routine procedures carry certain risks and while most people who are admitted eventually recover there will always be those who were too injured or sick to survive. Add in the pain that comes after surgery or an accident and I can think of few places creepier than a wing full of rooms where countless individuals suffered and died. It’s to be expected that some of these poor souls are stuck on the fifth floor.

The ending was a chilling surprise. In retrospect Ms. James did provide a few well-hidden clues earlier on but I was still taken aback by the last few paragraphs. This is one of those stories that grows better with every reread.

The Fifth Floor is a jolt of adrenaline. Before beginning it turn on every light in the house, make sure the doors and windows are locked, promise yourself that you won’t stop reading investigate any strange noises you hear and prepare for a wild ride!

Between problems with her brother-in-law, keeping her sister safe, and keeping up with her farm, she’s got her hands full. I like this gal. She’s got a good head on her shoulders, and I can’t help but sympathize with her for all she’s lost, and her will to not let it get the best of her.

If you like a hot cop hero, you’re going to like Mike. He’s the chief of police, and he meets Rachel on numerous occasions, considering she is an apparent target for vandalism. His only job is to protect her and keep an eye on the property, but his duties turn a little more personal when he allows his heart to get involved. With a fiery attraction, sizzling sexual tension, the sparks light up from an ember to a full fledged flame.

When you add in the suspense element, it only makes things hotter. A great secondary character that I came to care about is Rachel’s sister. She plays a big role in the story, as some of the bad things involve her. I’m even hoping she gets a story of her own at a later time, because she’s had an impact on me.

As well done as the tension and suspense is, there are a few parts where I found myself skimming because it was a little slow. Not too many places, mind you, but there were a few. The characters are well fleshed out, making them very believable. I’m intrigued by the writings of Ms. Leigh and look forward to more in the future.

He lurked in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to strike. All he wanted was the power of life. There was only way to steal it, collect the hearts of seven women and present them to the bringer of life, during the hour All Hallow’s Eve when the veil between the physical and the spiritual realms were the thinnest.

In a city where casting spells and supernatural beings were welcome, Dana had trouble quelling her gifts. With the touch of life or death, and never knowing when it would work, she avoided contact with humans and Others alike. When she rescues Simon, a handsome member of the Council, and her touch doesn’t kill, she knows he’s the one. Despite the connection they share, there’s a price. Someone will have to die.

Dana is considered a menace because she cannot control her gift and is putting others in harm’s way. So she decides that since she cannot control her power then she will throw herself into the raging river, thus eliminating any future problems. Dana’s power is to bring back the dead, but somehow she was having an issue focusing that power. Feeling alone, Dana decided that the only way to protect everyone was to cease to exist.

Simon could not let Dana do this especially because he was the reason the council was so hard on Dana. She saved his life but he was injured in the process which caused the council to blame Dana. Simon could not let her throw her life or gift away so he talked her down, letting her know that she was not alone and that he would stand by her side.

Love’s Deadly Touch was a good but quick read, and the characters of Simon and Dana helped give the story depth. It had romance and intrigue in the form of a soul stealer which Simon and Dana had to find before All Hallows Eve. I enjoyed Love’s Deadly Touch but would have liked it to be a little longer and the characters fleshed out a bit more. There were other characters in the story that I would have liked to find out more about, like her brother Danny. Maybe there will be a follow up story to this one which would explain more about Dana and her gift.

Tessa Jordan, abusive marriage survivor and owner of Tessa’s Treasures, an antique store, has sworn off relationships of any kind–until she comes face to face with the object of her teenage crush and falls into his arms, literally. Widower Lucas Raven has returned to Duncan after retiring from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Lucas has two things in mind: ask Tessa to look at the antiques he found in the attic of his house, and see if his feelings for her have lasted through the years. She does, and they have–tenfold.

When Tessa realizes the scrimshaw doll she’s agreed to sell has a curse attached to it, she wonders if it’s behind the strange things happening to her. Is it truly the doll wreaking havoc, or is someone out to get her? And since she’s sworn off relationships, how can she keep a very determined Lucas at arm’s length?

Widower Lucas Raven has come home after quitting the FBI. He goes to see Tessa Jordan at her antiques store to get some help clearing out the attic of the house he recently purchased. Using the excuse to get to know his old crush better they both embark on the slow process of rediscovering one another. Each of them have pain from the past locked away and difficulties to overcome. The slow, gradual growth of romantic feelings is a sweet and wonderful thing to read. I found it quite easy to lose myself in the gentle ebb and flow of Lucas and Tessa.

Both Lucas and Tessa are middle aged which I found delightfully written and refreshing. I also really enjoyed how the book focused so fully on their blossoming relationship and not their differences, like Tessa being a vegetarian and Lucas a traditional meat and potatoes man. Initially Tessa is a bit skittish, but Lucas shows an abundance of patience. This is a sweetly sensual book about two people who’s lives have diverged but fate gives them a second chance together.

While there are a few subplots, the real spotlight is on the characterizations and interactions predominantly between Lucas and Tessa. It’s a sweet, gentle read and highly enjoyable.
