Ok, short right? I think long bios are boring so let’s get right to the action.

First, I’ll let you know that I write M/M, M/F, Menage and everything in between. So today’s posts will have a little bit of it all.

Here is my first post from my female, down to earth ego, Rawiya…

Is it wrong to have someone to love AND take care of you?

A “Sugar Daddy” – Slang term. A man that provides for his partner financially in exchange for sex.
Is it wrong to want one of those? In a lot of people’s minds, it is, when you exchange your affection so a rich man can take care of you. My friends joke about it all the time, wanting a man that provides for them, keeping their bank accounts full at all times so they can do what they want.
We always see this in stories and real life; women who are with an old man who may be grandpa material. The most unbelievable part is that these ladies claim to love that person when all the outsiders say, “oh she only wants his money.” But, here’s a twist, what if that person really DOES want love, affection and money from that person.
All single people crave the love of someone that is financially secure, not meaning a billionaire but just able to provide for them and a potential family. Yet, this isn’t being a “gold digger” which is the term of the seeker of a “sugar daddy,” this is desiring someone that’s gainfully employed and can bring home the bacon. Nothing wrong with that.
So the devil’s advocate in me wants to ask the question. What’s wrong with wanting the love of a millionaire? It’s almost the same thing. The morality issue is do you love them for ONLY their money. If the answer is no, then you are no gold digger and he isn’t your sugar daddy but that’s what you will be called so get ready. 😉
Hope you enjoyed the post, now here’s a blurb and excerpt from Sugar Daddy, part of the Who’s Your Daddy anthology edited by Eric Summers. You can find these and other great gay romance books at, STARbooks Press

Coming soon to STARbooks and Amazon this Spring.
The Who’s Your Daddy Anthology featuring Rawiya’s first M/M tale, “Sugar Daddy.”

Blurb: A short story of a young man, Matthew Davidson, who is seeking the love of an older black man. When he goes to an internet dating site, he finds the man he is looking for but the ad calls for a black or Hispanic male. Interested, Matthew puts up the picture of his best friend, Devon Peartly who is Black. Now though, his chat buddy would like to meet him in person.
PG Excerpt – (Reference to M/M, swearing)
“Goddamit Matthew, I wish you would get your own man and stop looking at mine,” Devon said when we left multimedia class. My good friend Devon Hunter was dating the resident hot teacher, Professor Edgar Vincent. All the girls were crazy about him; it’s too bad that they didn’t know he had a desire for ass of the male variety instead of the female.
Rolling my eyes, I shrugged, “Sorry, it’s hard not to gawk at him; he’s really good looking. It’s too bad he saw you first before me.”
Devon put his hand on my chest, lightly shoving me, “What the hell is that supposed to mean? It doesn’t matter anyway; he ain’t into white boys anyhow…”
“His loss,” I replied as we walked to our lockers that were side by side.
Devon chuckled, and then muttered, “Bitch…”
Smiling, I retorted, “You love me though…”
“Yep,” he winked, turning the combo lock.
This conversation was a normality between me, Matthew Davidson and my good friend, Devon Peartley. We’d known each other since grade school and were now attending the Chelsea College of Art and Design in the midst of our second year of the Graphic Design Communication course; both of us inspiring art directors, that desired to work in either television or movies. We had been close seemingly forever, like brothers. We’d only screwed around once after being drunk at a party after graduating from middle school. The reason why? When you become that insanely tight with someone, where you know every stinking thing about one another, you really don’t want to complicate things by having sex. Moreover, Devon was not really, attracted to white men; he preferred those of his own kind or Hispanic. I liked that as well, but of the older variety.
So, even though I had given Professor Vincent more than a nod, I really wasn’t all that interested; truthfully, I only did it to piss off Devon.
“Devon, I want a man. I’m tired of being alone.” I pouted, leaning against the door.
“So get one, and keep away from Doc Vincent.” He closed the door, glaring at me.
“I don’t want your Professor, Devon. You know I am into older black men.” I slid my Blackberry out of my pocket, looking at the screen.
“Yeah, and my doc is an older bloke…”
“Uh huh, but not old enough for me…”
Devon’s eyes widened, “What? You mean you’re looking for an elder, a senior citizen…”
“Fuck you, you tosser, hell no; I’m searching for,” I paused glancing upwards, moving my hands.
“A man that is established, in his late forties, early fifties, with intelligence, strength…”
“A libido?”
Rolling my eyes, “Yes, most definitely. Someone that will take care of me, stimulate my mind and my groin, you know?”
Devon sighed, “Uh huh. A sugar daddy…”
“Yes, but a brown sugar daddy…really dark chocolate, sweet to the core, but rugged, rough.”

Keeping the Fires Burning

If you’re in an established relationship and like to kick up the heat now and then, there are so many things you can do. Rather than hiring a sitter and going out, let the kids stay overnight with grandma or your best friend and you two stay in. Stock up ahead of time with a new toy or two, or a movie, and some fun finger food. Or, for kicks, buy a few of your favorite erotic romances (or dust off the tried and true faves you haven’t, uh, tried yet) and act out the good parts.

Seriously. Maybe you don’t want to invite a friend to try the menage a trois scenes, (or maybe you do, but shouldn’t admit it), but why not invite your love into the fantasies you enjoy so much? The positions, the pieces of furniture, or interesting foodstuffs might be just the thing. Or they might send you both into fits of laughter at how wrong it really is. Either way, your night won’t be remembered as the same old box of chocolates, fifteen-minute roll in the sack and nod off to sleep event as last year.

And of course, I can suggest a book to test-drive. In Honey, I focused on a married couple who wanted to add a little spark to their evening, but through lack of coordination ended up with his boss coming to dinner. But Rick was never a patient man. Just how long can he wait to break out the toys?

Now, I’m turning the tables on you. Readers always ask authors about how they research their sexy scenes. I want to know if you’ve ever tried something you’ve read, and what book it came from. I need to stock my own shelves, dontcha know!

Destiny is an adventurous, sexy abduction story. Major Jack Travis is a daring Union cavalry officer and Emma Davenport, the woman he takes captive, the spirited daughter of a powerful Northern senator.  The abduction isn’t what it seems – Jack’s not after ransom or secrets. He’s out to keep Emma safe from a scoundrel. He can protect her from the dangers that pursue them. But he soon finds out he’s going to have a hard time protecting her from himself.  Here’s an excerpt:
Emma curled up on the porch steps beside an oil lamp and immersed herself in Cathy and Heathcliff’s story.  She nearly dropped the book when Jack’s husky voice murmured in her ear.
He crouched behind her, his breath warm against the nape of her neck.  The aroma of whiskey mingled with his natural essence in a masculine blend that tantalized her sense of smell.  “So, tell me about these lovers, Miss Davenport.”
His voice seemed deeper, more raw than she’d become accustomed to, his words spoken more slowly in a sensuous drawl.  His face brushed hers, prickling her skin with the stubble on his unshaven jaw and chin.  “Do they live happily ever after?”
Emma felt a stirring in her core as she breathed in his scent.  A lump formed in her throat, and she stared at the page she’d been reading.  She shook her head vigorously as his shadow beard grazed her cheek.  “It’s quite sad, actually.”
“Tell me more,” he whispered, sending a shivery caress down the length of her spine.
“They are hopelessly star crossed.  Even though Heathcliff loves Cathy, they can never be together.”
“Heathcliff?” Jack repeated.
“Heathcliff,” Emma pronounced the name with solemn precision.  “He’s English.”
Jack brushed his mouth against her ear.  “Of course.  He couldn’t be an uncouth American, an uncivilized barbarian.”
Emma wriggled around to face him.  “Heathcliff is a dark and troubled hero.  He’s utterly romantic.  He continues to love Cathy even after she’s died giving birth to another man’s child.”
He traced the curve of her cheek with his finger.  “Miss Davenport, do all the men in the novels you read wind up scarred or crippled or alone?”
She pressed her lips together, struggling to ignore the sensation of his touch.  “That would seem to be the case.”
His fingertip made tiny circles over her earlobe.  “Why do you enjoy reading about tortured men?”
Emma never knew her ears would be so sensitive to a man’s caress.  She licked her lips and twisted away from him.  “The characters are brooding and romantic.  They suffer for love.”
His arm snaked around her waist, dragging Emma against his unyielding male body.  “Shouldn’t love bring pleasure, Miss Davenport?”
“You shouldn’t…we shouldn’t do this,” she gasped, struggling to keep her wits about her as his heat and touch threatened to overwhelm her senses.
“Answer my question, and I’ll leave you alone with your tortured hero.  Shouldn’t love bring pleasure?”
The note of desire in his husky rasp shredded her meager defenses. “I don’t know,” she whispered, feeling her voice catch in her throat.
“I think you do,” Jack persisted, moving his lips to caress her lobe as his finger had moments earlier.  “Shouldn’t love bring pleasure, Emma?”
He spoke her name as a seductive caress against her nape.  His mouth burned a trail along the thin line of flesh exposed above her high collar.  “Answer me, darlin’.  Or should I try to convince you that I’m right?”
She shook her head.  “You don’t need to convince me,” she murmured. “Love should bring pleasure.”
He smiled, his mouth curving wickedly as honey-brown eyes raked over her.  “You don’t sound completely certain, Emma.  I do need to convince you.”
His hands cupped her bottom, drawing her so close she could feel his heart hammer against her breast.  Emma’s softness cradled the rigid length of his shaft, her body instinctively yielding to the gentle pressure at the crux of her thighs.
His tongue traced a scalding line from the hollow at the base of her throat to her lips.  Jack framed her face with his hands, teasing her lips with tiny kisses, until she whispered her surrender against his mouth and he upped the stakes.
“Shouldn’t love bring pleasure, darlin’?” he moaned against her mouth.  “Tell me what I need to hear.”
“Yes,” she whispered against his lips.  “Such pleasure.”
“You don’t have any idea how beautiful you are, do you?”  His gravel-edged voice betrayed his need and something more, something far more powerful than the hunger of the flesh.  Jack’s hands wove through her long mane as his lips laid claim to hers.
Emma was swept away, helpless to resist the intoxicating desire for his touch.  She felt her lips part to accept him, felt the rough texture of his tongue against hers as he plundered her senses.
“So beautiful.  So, so beautiful,” he murmured against her lips.  “How will I ever find the strength to let you go?”
She gulped in a breath, intoxicated by the heat of his body and the gentle demands of his caresses.  If only she could think of something other than the pleasure of being held by him, kissed by him.  Possessed by him.

Savannah: A City with Character

Whew! That was a bit of a walk but the scenery on Bull Street makes it bearable and, believe me, Forsyth Park is worth the trek! The park is 30 acres of bliss, and one of my favorite places to hang out. The center piece of Forsyth is the fountain, added in 1858, it has two ‘twin’ siblings; one in the Place de la Concorde in Paris and the other resides in Cuzco, Peru. Every year, a couple of weeks before St. Patrick’s Day, the Hibernian Society, (Irish ancestry club), hold the Greening of the Fountains Ceremony. They play Celtic music, dress in Green velvet jackets, and take turns pouring green vegetable die into the Forsyth fountain; I know it sounds silly, but it is actually quite a sight to see!

The Park has one main avenue, lined with the most glorious Live Oaks I’ve ever seen, and a multitude of paths leading off from it. On any given day, you’ll see college kids playing Frisbee or sunning themselves, tennis and basketball games, and families with their kids at the play grounds, and even chess, played with giant pieces straight out of Alice in Wonderland!

I love hanging out in the park but yesterday was a particularly fun time. I’d went down to get pictures for the blog post, but while I was snapping shots of the fountain, I struck up a conversation with KC.

KC is an artist who makes and sells palm roses to tourists in Forysth Park and along River Street. I’ve been fascinated by these palm roses for a while so hearing about their construction was the high point of my day. The roses are made with strips from the core, or heart, of the palm. The artists have to climb the palms and remove the new growth. They can only take so much at a time and they must make the cut at an angle so they don’t kill the trees. They then wind the strips into these beautiful works of art. I actually purchased three and will be giving them away during my St. Patrick’s Day Blog Party so be sure and stop by!

Like TC of Sweet Melissa’s Pizza, I think KC is an ambassador of Savannah. He is passionate and knowledgeable about the city’s history, (he’s studying to become a registered tour guide), and he loves to interact with the people passing by. When I went to find an ATM I talked to a couple visiting from Rhode Island and during our conversation I mentioned that I had to hurry back to the park because I was buying some palm roses from a vendor and they immediately said, “Oh, you mean KC?” I had to laugh. They’d ran into him earlier and had an enjoyable discussion about the city; he’d obviously left an impression!

That is one of the things I find most compelling about Savannah; it’s people. There is a vibe in Savannah that I’ve never experienced before; and I’ve lived in quite a few cities. People aren’t just friendly; they are interested in making their community a better place to live. One of those people is my friend, Jim Reed. I want to tell you all about him, but I’m thinking a steaming cup of coffee, (or Earl Grey tea for me), would hit the spot right about now; you game? I know the perfect place; The Sentient Bean. The Bean is a regular hang out for downtown locals and Jim is definitely a regular!

The Bean is located on Park Ave. directly across from the tennis courts at Forysth Park. It was one of the first places I discovered when I moved to Savannah so it’s no surprise that it inspired the Cosmic Café in Ring of Lies. That Savannah vibe I mentioned earlier? This is where I feel it most and I think it is because of people like Jim and The Bean’s owner, Kristin.

More than just a coffee house, The Bean is dedicated to giving back to the community. They do that by serving fair trade and organic products but also by hosting and promoting indie art in various forms; which brings me back to Jim Reed. I’ve known Jim for about a year but never really got to talk to him; he plays drums in a local band that I love, The Magic Rocks, and drums are not conducive to conversation! I knew that he was involved with community events,(my husband says if you want to know what’s happening in Savannah, just ask Jim), but I didn’t know the details until I sat down, at The Bean, to ‘interview’ him.

Besides playing drums in The Magic Rocks, The Eight Tracks, and Superhorse ,(did I mention that he’s BUSY?), Jim is the founder and director of the Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah. This is one cool society and it was born from the desire of a man who was tired of missing great films!

Their stated goal is to “present unique motion pictures which most folks in the greater Savannah, GA area would likely never have the chance to see in a public setting.” And I love this, “We proudly show “really good” movies and “really bad” ones and strive to avoid mediocrity in our selection process.”

On any given night, you could see campy stuff like the ‘snake-ploitation’ film, Stanley, to thought provoking masterpieces like the holocaust documentary, A Film Unfinished. The Sentient Bean hosts the PFS of Savannah every Wednesday and The Muse Arts Warehouse has weekend showings.

The Muse also offers theater groups a place to perform; I saw a fantastic performance of Eve Ensler’s, The Good Body, this past Thursday; things like that aren’t coming to our larger theaters, and if they do, the tickets will be a great deal more. That’s the beauty of places like The Bean and The Muse and groups like PFS of Savannah; they are committed to bringing art and culture here to enrich the community and keeping it affordable. These groups, along with SUGA, Savannah Urban Garden Association, and Savannah Food Co-op are run by people that care about improving the quality of life for residents and I think it is groups and people like this that make Savannah unique.

I really hope you’ve enjoyed the whirlwind tour today. There are so many things I didn’t have time to talk about … I didn’t even mention our gorgeous beach at Tybee Island or the many historic homes and museums that encompass the Historic District, and I can’t believe I didn’t tell ya’ll about our ghosts!

Savannah is considered America’s Most Haunted City and ghost tours abound. The best, in my opinion, are run by Cobblestone Tours and if you ever visit be sure and look them up. I happen to love the ghost stories of Savannah, not so much for the paranormal aspect but because they involve our history.

To tell those stories I’ve created a fictional reporter for the Paranormal Post, Paige Stewart. Each week through April, Paige and I will be guests at a different author’s blog. Paige will have another close encounter of the supernatural kind while she conducts research for her Spectral Savannah series and I will be offering the occasional prize. It is proven to cure effectively wet dreams and premature ejaculation due to the excessive masturbation. cialis tablets 100mg You can Shilajit ES capsules, which are the best herbal supplements to enhance generic tadalafil tablets men health, from reputed online stores. If you’d like to watch Paige struggle with her cynicism and learn more about Savannah’s history at the same time, visit my blog. On the right is a column with links to the Paige Stewart stories.

I’ve got to run, or I’ll never be ready before the sitter arrives, but I’ll leave you with a little taste of Paige’s first adventure …

Paige Stewart shivered. A line of thick grey clouds streaked across the sky, hiding most of the full moon and casting eerie shadows across the old graveyard. Perfect, a brewing storm to usher in her solitary slumber party in Colonial Park Cemetery! Her editor couldn’t have asked for a better atmosphere to accompany the jaunt had he planned it himself, and knowing Clayton Moore, he’d tried.

She rolled her eyes. Clayton Moore was a pain in the rear. The man lived and breathed solely for the sake of the Paranormal Post. It never ceased to amaze her how anyone that good looking could be so gullible. For Paige, researching and writing about ghost stories and paranormal experiences was just a job; a way to pay the bills without relying on her trust fund. She no more believed in the stuff than she believed the porcine population would take to the sky.

She stretched her legs out across the blanket and then scooped up the file that had been awaiting her arrival at the inn. Bold, two inch high letters spelled out ‘Confidential’ across the top of the fax cover sheet. Paige shook her head. What must the hotel staff be thinking?

The Seventeen Hundred and Ninety Inn was the oldest inn in Savannah and promoted itself as having several resident ghosts and a haunted guest room. With people waiting months to stay in the room, it was safe to assume they were used to seeing odd characters in their establishment. Paige snorted. She was staying the night in a cemetery with the hopes of catching a glimpse of reputed paranormal activity so what did that make her?

Paige glanced at the thickening clouds, resigned herself to getting wet at some point during the night, and then clicked on her pen light. She flipped open the folder and skimmed the history of Colonial Park Cemetery. Her own research had revealed basic facts like the cemetery was Savannah’s oldest, established in 1750, and that Union soldiers had used the graveyard as their camp when Sherman occupied the city. She’d also read how the Yankees had opened the strange bed shaped crypts, thrown out the bodies, and used them for makeshift tents and that they’d defiled the headstones to alleviate boredom. According to the file, she’d find a row of broken headstones hanging along the cemetery’s back wall and all of them had altered engravings, courtesy of the Yankees.
Nothing paranormal to report and not many options for pictures; how scary could a picture of a headstone claiming a man lived for seventeen hundred years be?
Paige lowered the file and peered into the growing darkness. Nestled beneath a stand of cedar trees dripping with Spanish moss, she could just make out a group of crypts. That’d make a decent shot, if it weren’t so dark.

She pursed her lips and debated. With so little light she’d need to set up the tripod and keep the shutter open longer, but … She sighed. The effort would have to be made because it was highly doubtful any ghosts would volunteer to pose, for posterity or the Paranormal Post’s article.
She assembled the tri-pod, set the shutter speed, and then gave the dossier one last look. Please let there be something paranormal worth writing about. Seven hundred people were interred during the Yellow Fever epidemic of 1820, several duels were fought on the grounds …
Oh yeah, that’ll make a great article. She continued reading, desperate for something, anything, remotely ‘ghostly’ to write about.
She rolled her eyes at the story of frugal colonial Savannahians disinterring their relatives to avoid the cost of another grave. Great! The custom of stacking bodies like cord wood inside a single crypt was old news.
She continued reading and then frowned. Now this was new. Citizens had opened coffins and found deep gouge marks. They assumed someone had been buried alive, or come back …. Perhaps she could ‘spin’ the facts. Hmmm, Zombies walk in old Savannah or Colonial Savannah inhabited by Vampires.

What’s Your Favorite Kind of Chocolate?

I usually get chocolates for Valentine’s Day. Most of the time it’s Godiva, but last year I tried something new. Intentional Chocolate. I get it for my health, of course 🙂 Because good quality chocolate really does improve focus and well being. I’ve been a fan of chocolate for years, but until recently never understood why. I’ve never been big on sweets, but chocolate….well, there’s just something different about it.

I can go for weeks without thinking about chocolate, and then, suddenly, it’s all I can think about. I figure my body knows what it needs, even if I don’t, so I keep plenty of dark chocolate handy, for when the cravings come. I thought I might be craving magnesium. Turns out it’s something in the cocoa. I also didn’t know until recently that chocolate was considered the Food of the Gods. I mean, I’ve always considered it that, but I didn’t know so many others considered chocolate so highly. So imagine my delight when I found this site about chocolate that gives love.

Intentional Chocolate is embedded with good intentions from Tibetan Buddhist Monks. It has been tested against non-enhanced chocolate, to show that it increases well-being. If you eat it yourself, you will feel better. If you give it to someone else, they will feel better. Chocolate and Intention Research

Positive intention is a thought, a prayer, or a blessing. Positive intention is also an offering to the world at large or to a friend in need and can come from the pure desire to help another. There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that intention invokes measurable power and energy that can manifest across space and time. Researchers all around the world, such as those at Princeton, Harvard and the Max Planck Institute, are studying the power of intention.

The blessing of food with an intention has long been practiced within spiritual traditions and sacred ceremonies. These practices place certain energy into the food that is then offered back to benefit individuals and the community. At Intentional Chocolate™ we not only provide a product that can be gifted as a positive intention to another person, but we strive to lead intentional and purposeful lives. By paying attention to the effect we have on the whole through our decisions and actions we attempt to “do no harm and benefit others.” As we move throughout our day, we hold in our minds the desire to be in service to the “we.” We know that holding this desire is not easy. In our chaotic world filled with so many distractions and stress, people are yearning to return to simple values and meaningful relationships based on love and respect. The busier our lives become, the harder it can be to focus on positive intentions and to stick to them.

Holy Cocoa

Some have asked us, “Why chocolate?” For thousands of years humanity has intuitively appreciated chocolate’s power, turning to it for sustenance, to express emotions and to draw others near. Known by the ancient Aztec as a gift from Quetzalcoatl the god of air, light, and life, the cacao tree has long been revered for its mystical and healing energies. The botanical name for chocolate – the obramba cacao – literally means “food of the Gods”.

Not surprisingly, modern research is now confirming cacao’s many healing effects – its role in increasing antioxidants, decreasing the likelihood of cancer and heart disease, enhancing the immune system, lowering blood pressure and its ability to boost moods! It seemed a natural match to infuse the good intentions of optimal health and well-being into a food that already has positive energetic and even mystical properties.

With our secret ingredient (intention), Intentional Chocolate™ allows you to deliver the actual clear and simple intention of “Thank you,” “I love you” or “Be Well” through something that everyone enjoys. When you purchase Intentional Chocolate™ to send to a friend or loved one, not only do you get the intention for well-being embedded by experienced meditators, but you also can send your own intention. You may be surprised at the powerful impact this gift can have on those to whom it is given.

Intentional Chocolate™ and its research partner, the HESA Institute (http://www.hesainstitute.org/) are leaders in the revolutionary new field of intentional nutrition proving that intention embedded into food can positively affect those who consume it. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study that was published in the scientific peer-reviewed journal, Explore: The Journal of Science and Healing (October 2007), it was found that one ounce of Intentional Chocolate™ per day for three days increased subjects’ well-being, vigor and energy by an average of 67 percent and, in some cases, up to 1,000 percent, when compared to a control group.

The study showed [that benefits included]

Decreased stress
Increased energy
Less fatigue
Greater calmness
Enhanced focus

The Love of Writing Expanded-Annette Snyder

I did something for a year I thought I’d hate.  It was free publicity so I did it anyway.  I co-hosted a blog.  I read three books a month and highlighted those authors for ten days. I posted questions and comments about the work and kept conversations going.  I liked it, pretty much but with my own writing, home and real job, the blog took precious time.  I did get an idea.  If I spent so much effort working on a blog for someone else, why not start my own?  But the time?  How could I do a blog without using my allotted writing time?   Check out Fifty Authors from Fifty States  http://annettesnyder.blogspot.com  I’ve lined up one writing professional from each state per week for the year.  What a great way to learn about the amazing talent nestled in the interesting niches of the USA.  I get to work on a blog because I enjoy it and I also get to clue visitors in about new genre’s, new writing avenues and different parts of the country.  Want to visit Arizona or Florida?  Check out those posts to find out what not to miss when you do!  AND, if you visit weekly and comment, you could win a pretty cool surprise at the end of the year.

Blurb:

After an auto accident destroys his pro-football career, Matt McCallum struggles to find a new dream for his life, but nothing engages him the way football did. After a stint in rehab, he takes a job managing a grocery store where he meets Violet Emerson.

Violet works in the bakery department, but her dreams carry her far beyond the doors of Chef’s Pantry. As soon as she can save the money, she plans to open a catering business. And she thinks the new manager’s broad shoulders and blue eyes are simply divine.

Thrown together at work, Matt and Violet find a common dream for their lives, but a loose end from Matt’s past returns to jeopardize their future. Will love be enough to save their new dream before it turns into a nightmare?

Prologue:

The red convertible cut a path through the moonlight, its headlights dancing along the arched limbs of the trees above the road.

“Oh, Matt, it’s such a beautiful night,” Stacey declared with a sigh. “I’m going to miss you when you leave tomorrow.”

Matt reached for her hand and brought it to his lips. Instead, it increases the width sildenafil best price http://djpaulkom.tv/dj-paul-attends-icon-manns-third-annual-pre-oscar-dinner/ of the blood vessels in the penile region to stay dilated for a longer time. “That’s what I get for falling in love with a pro football player,” Stacey teased, her blonde hair turned to frosted silver by the light of the full moon above them.

Matt squeezed the hand that wore his engagement ring. “It’s too late to back out now,” he intoned with mock seriousness. “You’re mine.”

“Mmm, do I like the sound of that!”

The car rounded a curve, and without warning a deer bounded across the road. Matt braked sharply to avoid the animal, but the tires slid on a patch of loose gravel in the road, and he lost control of the convertible. It fishtailed and started to spin in the road.

Matt made a tremendous effort to correct the slide, but it was useless. The car turned around once more and skidded backwards for a short distance before it slid off the road where it jumped a steep ditch, and went airborne. All Matt could see was a blur of trees and darkness as the car careened into the woods. It made a lazy turn in the air and came to rest bottom side up.

The last thing he remembered was the sound of Stacey’s screams.

First Kiss

My book, Harvest of Dreams, takes place in a small Missouri river town just after the end of the Civil War. Lisa McAllister is a young widow struggling to make it on her own on the apple farm her father left her. Against her will, her mother saddles her with Jared Tanner, a shotgun rider for the stagecoach company. Jared moves into the hired hand’s room to provide protection for Lisa and her infant son. A battle of wills ensues, but one night after surviving the frightening ordeal of the baby’s first illness together, Lisa’s walls come tumbling down, and they share their first kiss.

Here’s the scene:
For a long moment, they gazed into each other’s eyes. “Lisa.” The word was so low and deep it sounded more like a rumble in his chest than her name. “There’s something I want, badly.”
Her eyes asked the question, but she already sensed the answer.
“I want to kiss you. I’ve wanted to all day…for weeks really. Please don’t pull away.”
The plea in his voice tore at her. That a man like Jared, who could take whatever he wanted, was asking for permission touched her. He was giving her the power to grant or refuse. He would never force her. But she couldn’t deny his need. It mirrored her own. She couldn’t help herself; she nodded without looking away.
Fierce satisfaction swept across his face before he lowered his mouth to hers. His lips were firm and deliberate as he worked to coax a response from her. Lisa moved her mouth, but she wasn’t sure exactly what she was supposed to do. Before he’d left for war, Dan’s kisses had been the tentative caresses of a teenage boy. This was completely different. Jared was a man, and beyond her experience.
“Open for me. Please.” He nudged at her lips to show her what he wanted.
She was dizzy with the new sensations and did what he asked without hesitation. Immediately, his grip tightened and one hand slid up her back and buried itself in her unbound hair. He used that hand to hold her head steady as he slid his tongue into her mouth.
The action shocked her, and she started to draw back, but his hand tightened.
“No,” he murmured raggedly.
She was overcome by a longing to give this man what he needed. She stopped struggling and forced herself to relax in his embrace. Soon the novelty of the kiss wore off, and a fire began to burn deep inside her. She discovered her arms had wound themselves around his broad, bare back and her hands were every bit as busy as his. Her tongue refused to remain passive and wove itself around his in an ancient mating dance.
Finally, he dragged his mouth away and released the pressure on her hips. She collapsed against his chest, and they stood, holding each other until their heartbeats slowed and their breathing returned to normal.
Jared was the first to speak. “I’m not sorry.”
She remained silent.
“This doesn’t change anything,” he said.
Lisa pulled back and looked up, shaking her head. “It changes everything.”
“No, it doesn’t. The feelings were there before, and they’ll still be there whether we act on them or not.”
She didn’t try to deny it. “But we can’t, and it will be so much harder now.”
“That’s true. Now you know how much I want you, and I know you want me, too. I don’t know where this is going, but we have to find out.”
“I don’t want to find out.” But a small voice inside denied the words. Part of her had to know.
“I think you do, and I know I do. I’m not going to offer to leave, even though it might make some things easier, not unless you can convince me you really want me to go.” He cupped her face in both hands and searched her eyes. “Do you?”
Lisa knew she should say yes and remove the unbearable temptation of his presence, but she couldn’t bring herself to speak the lie. She shook her head. “No.”
Jared’s lips moved in a tiny smile, then his serious expression returned. “I can’t tell you I’ll never kiss you again, or touch you, or that I won’t want to get even closer to you, but I promise I won’t press you for anything you don’t want to give. I’d never do anything to hurt you. You know that, don’t you?”
She nodded.
“Good. Now it’s time for you to get some sleep.” He led her to the bed and tucked her in, his hands lingering as he smoothed the quilt across her. Then he leaned over her, his expression rigid and deadly serious. “I want you to know leaving you tonight is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. But I want more from you than one night in your bed.”
He closed the remaining gap between them and captured Lisa’s lips in a kiss filled with frustrated desire and a promise of things to come.
Then he was gone.

Behind the Book

Where do ideas for books come from? How does that little idea grow into a novel?

canada cialis levitra Millions being expended to offer the perfect choice and is enjoying life. During the deeprootsmag.org sildenafil cheap presence of sexual excitement, muscles in their penile tool. This medicine is online cialis check it right here now widely used all over the globe to make payments. cialis doctor The MRP gets two times higher than drivers of all ages.

Years ago someone told me a story about a friend of his who attended a wedding in another city. The friend sat with the rest of the congregation in the church as the bride walked up the aisle to her groom. But once she got there, she halted the wedding liturgy and turned to the congregation.
“Thank you for coming today,” she said, “but there’s not going to be a wedding. If you reach under your seats you’ll find an envelope taped there. When you open the envelope you’ll know why I won’t be marrying this man today.”
With that she walked out of the church to the stunned surprise of everyone assembled. Then there was a mad scramble to retrieve the envelopes under the pews. Inside were pictures of the groom in bed with the maid of honor, who apparently wasn’t so honorable.
I don’t know if this story is true (it sounds a bit like an urban myth to me) though my friend’s friend swore it was. But it got me thinking about wedding disasters. What if a woman was dumped at the altar? How would she feel? What would she do next? Could such an awful situation be funny? That’s how “Her Best Man” was born.
Sarah Stevens’ dream wedding turned into a nightmare. Not only did her fiancé Brad turn tail and run from the church, her mother totally lost her marbles, humiliating Sarah even more. I feel sorry for poor Sarah, but I wouldn’t be doing my job as a romance writer if I didn’t make things even worse for her. (Insert evil laugh here).
How do I do that? By having her motley crew of assorted relatives make life miserable for her. Her mother’s been living with her since her parents’ divorce (Is that why Sarah agreed to marry Brad so quickly?) Then her great aunt arrives to “comfort” her; translation, gloat over her misfortune. The last straw comes when the great aunt announces that her daughter will be coming to stay with Sarah for a couple of weeks. Sarah knows this means non-stop moaning about her disastrous wedding, along with many giddy little jabs from her mean-spirited cousin. Sarah can’t take another minute. To escape, she decides to use her ticket for the Caribbean cruise meant to be her honeymoon.
Meanwhile, Brad is feeling pretty lousy about what he did to Sarah. He decides to stay in Ottawa to apologize and somehow make it up to her. Sarah’s a great girl; he was just scared about marriage when he bolted from the church. He offers his brother Will, who had been best man at the wedding, his ticket for the honeymoon cruise.  Will is a travel writer and is just getting over a bout of Delhi belly received on one of his trips. Some fun in the Caribbean sun is more appealing than the Ottawa snow.
So Sarah and Will end up on the same cruise ship, in the same cabin. Let the fireworks begin!
My hope is to make “Her Best Man” one third of a three part series in which someone gets left at the altar at the beginning of each novel. I’m working on books two and three now. Wish me luck!
