The story opened up with the two hunky ranch hands, Wyatt and Clayton, saving Hope from a very ugly situation. Right away, the sparks fly and the sexual tension sizzles for these three. Hope knows that Clay and Wyatt are meant to be hers. Surprisingly, she makes her move fairly quickly.

But this story is not without conflict, and it comes from a reluctant Wyatt. See, Wyatt and Clay have a long history. They’re more than just sexual partners, but Wyatt is always holding back. He’s the brooding sort, and he might’ve been just a little jealous over his Clay as well. At least, that’s the way I saw it. Almost like he was afraid that Hope would steal Clayton away from him. He gave his partners a hard time for a while, nearly losing them both in the end.  I loved Clayton though. He was the sweet one in the story. He clearly loved them both, and I really appreciated the decision he was ready to make at the end. I easily fell for his character.

In the previous book, Winter’s Thaw, and in the beginning of this one, Hope was portrayed as a shy good girl. I gotta say … she really came into her own in this story. She saw what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to grab onto it. Though Wyatt tried to push her away, she showed her true tenacious Compton spirit. I loved it.

The story had some memorable sex scenes that this reader enjoyed. The M/M love scenes were hot, with some back door action going on. For the discerning reader, if you’re not into the M/M romantic entanglements, then you might wanna stay away from this one. As for this intrepid reader … I couldn’t get enough. Wyatt and Clay’s love scenes sizzled with all kinds of naughty, yet they shared a deep connection that was palpable. As for Hope, like I said, Wyatt was reluctant to include her in the games. She did get in on the game a bit, but mostly the writers, well known for their brilliantly choreographed menage scenes, saved the really steamy stuff for the end.

Followers of this series, and its predecessor, The Compass Brothers, are bound to be struck raw by the common thread that spans this series. That thread grows more prominent, and is truly heartbreaking in this book. Longtime readers will want to have some tissues handy for this one.

This book stands very well on its own. Though, I feel that a better understanding would be enjoyed by reading the rest of this series. I mean …. why would you want to miss a truly great series, really. The story includes the entire Compass family, with a lot of things coming full circle for the readers. It is about family really. Family standing together, good times and hard. Family accepting each other, the good and the bad. Family that loves one another, and stands along side each other, even in the sad times when you have to let go and accept that things are only gonna get worse. It’s about finding joy in what you have, having the courage to grab it, and the strength to hold onto it while you can. It’s about new beginnings, even as the past is coming to an end. That’s something entertaining to share, and this reader is happy to share it with these wonderful characters.

Okay …. I loved it! Enjoyed every page. Already I am looking forward to the next book in the Compass Girls series. I totally recommend this book.

One thing I would have liked to know more about was the past, both between the two characters as well as separately. The author gives clues to what happened between them, but I think the whole story would have added a bit more interest for me as well as sympathy. This is especially true because at times I found Marie holding her emotions at bay a bit too much. A better understanding of her past would have helped me understand why she seemed to need such control in her life.

The sex play in this story was plentiful and exciting. I found both Marie and Jonathan’s ability to accept one another truly displayed in the bedroom. Especially for Jonathan and his ability to take whatever Marie can dish out, no matter if she is in control in the bed or if it were he himself. I found either situation endearing and erotic. These scenes truly made the story, and made me want to know what would be utilized in the bedroom next. So anyone who is looking for an erotic tale with a variety of sex play will enjoy this story.

I let myself fall into the sumptuously written Thrill Seeker whilst lying on a sunny Spanish beach. Warmth and the artificialness of a week of no worries allowed me to drift to a shadowy place where seedy desires and dangerous wanting ruled in the harsh light of day. Did I regret that drift into a forbidden, dark and dangerous world? No way! Because Ms Lloyd makes it all okay to do so. I adored that about Thrill Seeker, the absolute ownership of the heroine’s kinky desires and her attitude of not having to gain permission or explain the reason for her lusty fantasies but to just go with what feels really-damn-good regardless of societies frowning face or the guilt that might knock at the door afterwards.

Thrill Seeker is edgy for sure, but when you pluck a Kristina Lloyd book off the shelf (or in my case download to Kindle) what do you expect? For me that’s the draw of this author, I love being taken to the periphery of what is both mine and the heroine’s comfort zone. Being in the heroine’s head and hearing her articulate her way down a complex path as she searches for the experiences she craves is both intimate and grounding. What I loved most about Natalie India was her absolute self-belief, she was on seriously dodgy territory more than a few times, my heart raced for her on occasion and I questioned her sanity more than once, not least I wondered what the hell her mother would say, but, ultimately she took control. In a world where submission can be seen as weak, this book throws that concept right out of the water. Submission, simply, is about power, and allowing another person to have that power, and the exchanges that ricochet around the pages in Natalie’s story kept me panting for more and breathless to see if her risk would pay off with the ultimate thrill. Her power was knife sharp, she also walked on a knife’s edge. I couldn’t stop reading…

There are three main men in Thrill Seeker, a shaky starting point for a lot of books unless the intention is a ménage; but these three guys, and to an extent the extra peripheral men too, create the sexual experiences and ‘right now’ that is the heroine’s moment. For me I found this very real; no one is made up of one sexual encounter, it is the sum total not the parts that creates a sexual history. And, despite being so different, I liked all the men, a lot, they each brought something vital to the structure of the novel, be it sweet, dangerous, painful or soul-aching, not one could have been omitted. What ever the reader’s ultimate thoughts are, Den, Liam and Baxter are key players in Natalie’s life and each so different and so in tune with the varied currents that float her boat that I adored them all. Obsession after all, is a powerful train to step aboard and I, for one, understood her reasons for buying that ticket!

I’d hate to go into much more detail and spoil the absolute delight that is Thrill Seeker by revealing the plot, but suffice to say it won’t disappoint. If you like a leading lady who can jump up and shout about her desire then be forced to bend to the will of a dominant man go get yourself a copy of Thrill Seeker today and then make sure, like me, you have ample time to immerse yourself in the dirty, delightful goings-on in Saltbourne. You won’t be disappointed by this gloriously edgy 5* read!

The Man with the Bouncing Cock by Doris O’Connor

I don’t know who decided to set the order of the stories, but with a title like that I entered the anthology with gusto. I’ve read other works by Doris O’Connor, and once again, she didn’t disappoint. From the start, in barely a few lines, I was able to feel an emotional connection with the hero. I laughed, frowned and felt sad at times. Though the ending was a bit disappointing due to its abruptness, the story was sweet and mildly hot.

Grumpy Pants by Doris O’Connor

Another delightful piece and one of my favorites. The story’s development was pleasantly surprising; the characters had a great connection and unlike her other story, this one was sizzling hot.

A True Scotsman by Raven McAllan

This was my least favorite story in the anthology. There was a lot of dialogue meant to be sexy and fun, but didn’t quite cut it for me. I felt no connection with either of the characters, only catching brief glimpses of a relationship that wasn’t explained in any way and felt one-sided. The descriptions were well done, but the whole tale felt like a chapter pulled from another bigger piece.

This one was a nice story with some slow, heated, passion.

Ghost by Ella Grey

This one was sweet. There was no sex, just a heart stopping attraction and chemistry between the characters that had me delve into the story with gusto. The piece could easily expand into something longer, but it was well plotted and written as a short story and enjoyable to read as such.

Messy by Ella Grey

This one was a very enjoyable erotic story. Quick and scorching, it explained the title of the piece perfectly.

The Tickle Arms and Delightful Consequences by Morgan King

These two pieces go hand in hand. The first one is a warmer, introducing the characters and some fun, sexy, public play, whilst the second one amps the heat by several degrees introducing another character. In this one, we have the exotic culture of an Arabian Nights kind of set up, complete with a jealous sex slave and a king that will leave no stone unturned to explore all the carnal delights he can conceive of. Pratan, the king’s brother, is a hunky yet conflicted hero. He was cursed at birth by a witch to become a rutting beast and that is exactly what he is when the moon casts its wicked spell. Cecily’s arrival has put Pratan’s change into overdrive and it becomes dangerous for everyone around them. Cecily must use all of her skills as a spy to find out the secrets of this exotic land and stop a curse before it destroys everything she begins to hold dear.

This book really took me far and wide. At first you have a kidnapping fantasy with rip roaring sex that honestly left me breathless. Then you have a ménage with kinky toys that made me crunch ice. ( A lot). Then you add a paranormal twist and I couldn’t decide what I enjoyed more. It all worked. Every part of it. The hero was alpha male all the way, but had a soft side too and that made me fall for him too. The heroine was brave and adventurous and embraced every experience that came her way. I loved that. The action was amazing and the sex scenes sizzled through my e-reader. The other thing about this book was the steampunk elements that added spice to an already fun plot. Her Grace’s Stable is the long awaited follow up to Joely Sue Burkhart’s first erotic steam punk novel, Lady Doctor Wyre, and it was worth the wait.

The Black Duchess of the Queen’s Royal Dragoons, Lady Violet Blackmyre, has succeeded in being named Field Marshal of the Britannian Army, a high honor in the land. Shortly after, she is diagnosed with consumption, with no future except a slow and lingering death to look forward to. Deciding to get her affairs in order, she gives her devoted stable hand and ‘pony’ Cole his freedom. But Cole refuses to leave his mistress, and when he rescues a magnificent but abused ‘stallion’, bringing him to Lady Blackmyre’s stables, Violet is determined to save the handsome but silent man and, hopefully, show him that he can be what he was meant to be, without the torture he has been subjected to. At first, Arthur is determined to ignore Violet and Cole and the roles played out in the stable, but as time goes on, he sees that there is caring and affection behind everything the mistress does. When the Queen visits with Lady Blackmyre, it is revealed that her illness is not, in fact, naturally caused, and there is a way to restore Blackmyre to health, catch the traitor who has been trying to undermine the Queen’s rule, and help Arthur accept who he is, Blackmyre accepts the assignment and all it entails. Can Cole and Blackmyre save Arthur, and convince him to stay at Her Grace’s Stables? Will the guilty party be revealed? Can these three people find a happy solution for them all?

I like visiting this alternate reality in space created by Ms. Burkhart, and enjoy the role reversal that is so well depicted, with the women in charge in battle or in the home, and the men are the more domesticated ones. The characters in this are all very strong and determined, and as with all of Ms. Burkhart’s people, multifaceted and charismatic. I will say up front, this is not for everyone, but those who enjoy challenge and something new and unusual, this is a delightful, if darkly erotic, treat.

Lady Violet Blackmyre is strong, determined and ready to face death, but only on her terms. She wants to free her ‘pony’ Cole, but he is having none of it. When she sees the man, the magnificent ‘stallion’ that Cole has rescued, she is determined to help him as much as she can before she becomes too weak to be of any help. I like Lady Blackmyre’s spirit, her honesty and her sense of fair play in her life. I enjoyed watching as she was able to ‘gentle’ Arthur, showing him kindness and discipline at the same time.

Cole, Lady Blackmyre’s favorite ‘pony’ is charming, generous and shows an inner strength when he fights for what he wants. I like that he refuses to be freed from the stable, and is determined to keep his place at Lady Blackmyre’s side, without knowing about her illness and the toll it is taking. I like that he risked himself to help another man, not for any reward, but because of the injustice and cruelty he saw being aimed at Arthur.

Arthur is determined to remain separate and hold on to his sense of shame at what was done to him, and at the desires inside that he feels make him wrong. Arthur is strong, handsome and everything a ‘stallion’ should be. I enjoyed watching and Cole and Lady Blackmyre sneaked past his defenses, and showed him the truth of his possibilities and how to handle what he was feeling. I liked Arthur’s stubborn streak, his determination to not speak at all, thinking as long as he was silent, he was in charge of his own destiny.

There are several court intrigues in this one, with surprising villains behind the evil doings and the ways in which the Queen and Lady Blackmyre handle things is not at all what I expected. As with any Joely Sue Burkhart, the tension rises to unbearable heights before the characters finally come together in an epic explosion of passion. This is not for everyone, but for the adventurous reader who likes some kink and altered reality with their romance, this one will catch and hold the attention quite nicely.

I’ve read some really good menage relationship books but not many where two of the characters are a happily married husband and wife. This story is special because even if Kevin and Jill had never decided that they wanted to add a “spare dick” for a one night fantasy they would have still lived happily ever after. The writer left no doubt that the success of their relationship isn’t tied to adding someone to it. As high school sweethearts and twelve years of marriage, they had already built the lasting best friends and lovers foundation. It’s funny how teasing suggestions can lead to unintended consequences. In the case of Kevin, Jill and Adam I experienced every level of concern, fear, trepidation, longing, accepting and finally love in this fantastic little read.

Ms. Wilde set the tone for the story from the beginning and I was hooked to the very end. It wasn’t hard to see how Kevin could go from being completely hetero to eventually asking for what he wanted. I liked that Ms. Wilde didn’t make the transition easy for Kevin. The idea of what Jill asked him to do was stressful and he had questions but every decision he made, every step he took was always about her. Likewise, when Jill is confronted with what she perceives as duplicity she reacts as a normal woman would. It wouldn’t have made sense for her to simply accept what had been done without running the gambit of emotions. The writer made me think about how she was feeling and that’s important to me as a reader. If I don’t care how the characters struggle or how they feel then I’m not vested into their HEA or HFN.

Adam Heller is simply precious. Don’t tell him that, he considers himself a bit of an alpha male but he’s so much more than the gruff exterior of man known as “Hell” by his peers. He makes no apologies for what or who he wants but he doesn’t try to force others to be who they aren’t. I liked that he was able to be vulnerable it the right situation but didn’t hide and let some miscommunication ruin a good thing. Even if that “good thing” didn’t include him. I had no trouble buying into his feelings and the chemistry between him and Jill as well as him and Kevin.

There were no real surprises in the subplot concerning the missing girl, it could have been taken directly from a rural town newspaper, but it’s so well written and flows at just the right pace I didn’t want to stop reading. Not to say the subplot wasn’t necessary, it was. The story could have been solely about how Adam came to be a part of Kevin and Jill’s relationship but the intensity of the emotions and clarity of the moment that came out as a result of the case gave credence to what they all felt. It wasn’t simply a classic trope for the sake of writing some hot sex scenes.

Spare Dick is a thrilling short story for those who want that full body shiver of excitement. It has characters who made me care and a story that swept me along. I would cheerfully read another story where these three were either the main characters or maybe even simply reoccurring characters. That’s a story you don’t soon forget.

One of the things that I loved about Chloe’s story is that she has real life reactions to whatever is thrown at her no matter if it’s the guys or some outside influence. You, on my lap, over my knee, under my body, tied up, tied down, or free to scratch, kiss, and bite—whatever it takes.” That’s some fantastic writing and it’s no wonder Chloe doesn’t stand a chance. The underlying theme in this novel is “trust” and it’s in no way one sided. Such a beautiful, emotional read.

Be forwarned: this is not BDSM for beginners. These guys take the position of Dom very seriously. Chloe’s boundaries are pushed but it’s completely consensual even when she fights them. The level of domination Flynn and Noah required of Chloe is pretty intense and made me nervous for her sake but in my opinion that’s simply the mark of good story telling. When I’m in the characters head and feeling what they feel.

Flynn and Noah have lived a lot of life in their short number of years as former SAS. Their experiences obviously color their perception of dealing with bad guys and what they hold as most important in their world. When Chloe becomes that “most important” these guys pull out all stops. I could totally buy into her feelings of being overwhelmed and needing space. These guys are intense and Ms. Archer builds on that intensity as Trent steps up his game. I stayed glued to the pages to see how they handle him! Prepare to have your heart twisted up by Flynn’s back story as well. I just kept thinking “Bless his heart”… such a heavy load for one man to carry on his shoulders for so long.

Speaking of the slice of crazy that’s stalking Chloe, wow, Trent is truly certifiable! Ms. Archer gives the reader some inner monologue for Trent and there is no doubt this guy is twisted! Having a stalker would be bad enough, having that same person be a part of your family? Yikes! Just when I knew I had it all figured out Ms. Archer tossed me a curve ball. I didn’t see it coming but it plays out so well. Chloe impressed me again with her tenacity and spunk. She’s small but she’s a whole case load of dynamite! With great friends and an amazing town full of people/neighbors who stick up for one another, how can the good guys lose? These are the kinds of stories that have me looking forward to returning to visit time and again.

I’m not sure who Mrs. Archer has in mind for the next book but I’m pretty sure I met some future heroes and at least a couple of heroines. I’ve added her to my auto-buy list and will be watching anxiously for the next installment. He lost his heart to her, but feels he isn’t worthy of her attention, so he keeps her at arms length when they meet. But his heart hasn’t forgotten, and neither has he. I like Tristan for his loyalty, his honesty and his determination. He refuses to let others influence him in any way.

Lady Cara is beautiful, strong-willed and independent, and not some simpering useless lady. She has fought along side the men since her brother was wounded and laid up in his bed. She is smart enough to realize things will change once her brother recovers, and she dreads the day, because he plans to wed he to an old man who offers much to gain Lady Cara. When she met Rath and the others, she discovered that there could be another way out for her, and begins to let hope spark in her heart again. I like Cara’s strength and spirit, and her willingness to have an open mind toward the future.

Sir Thorn is a knight of Draconia, bonded to Rath’s mate Sharliss. He has admired Cara from the time he first met her, but believed he would never have the chance to be more than a friend. When he meets Tristan, and sees how things could be, he has hope for his own future as well and his dragon partner’s happiness. I like Thorn for his quiet and steady demeanor, and his determination to ferret out the secrets that have been hidden in Fadoral ‘s archives to set things right.

There is something for everyone in this book; battles, intrigue, hidden secrets revealed, and lots of passion and romance. And of course, the dragons and their knights. I like that Ms. D’Arc is filling in details of how some of the knights met their dragons, and enriching the history of Draconia along with all the romance. I hope she continues to bring out more as time goes by, as well as providing fresh and exciting adventures in this, my favorite world of the D’Arc side.
