Family comes first. Desire second. At least, that’s how it’s supposed to be…

Lucian has better things to do than hunt down a creature who may or may not exist—a siren whose singing voice can heal anything. But with his brother’s life depending on his success, he sets out, only to be distracted by a woman whose beauty is enough to stir the desire he’d long ago thought was gone. Unfortunately, courting her is as dangerous as the enemy hunting them down, for Siovon would rip his heart out before allowing him to find her sister.

Siovon doesn’t trust Lucian, no matter how much his every touch ignites her passion. After being held captive for the last decade, she will do anything it takes to find and protect her sister—including lying to strike a deal with the handsome vampire. If giving up her life means Calysta would be safe, then so be it. However, the more time she spends with Lucian, the harder it becomes to ignore the powerful truemate call binding them together.

The line between true love and duty to family becomes blurred in this battle of the hearts, but Siovon and Lucian will learn the hard way that some sacrifice might be worth it in the end. That is, if it doesn’t tear them apart first.

Not your normal run of the mill vampire story.

Let me state first, this is the second book in the series and I have not read the first book. There is a backstory to it and there were details that were apparent at first. It took time to understand. However, once I understood some of the backstory it was smooth sailing all the way.

Siovan is a siren with a past. A bloody past. Her past has made her wary and distrustful. But she does have a small group of ‘friends’ that she trusts. I love reading books with soft, sweet innocent heroines but I adore these stories about independent, kicka** heroines who knows how to solve their own problems. Siovan is an assassin that can fight with the best of them and probably win as well. Her search for her younger sister has lead her to Lucien, the vampire prince.

Lucien is not just a vampire. Or a prince. His family is more powerful than the average vampire. He met Siovan in search of a cure for him brother’s ‘ailment’.

I have not read the first book but I do believe that the characters from the first book appears in this as well. This plot is also a result of the first book. Or a continuation from the first book with a new couple. Therefore, I suggest reading in order. Nevertheless, the author did a wonderful job of trying to make this a book that can be read as a stand alone. There are multiple plots which keeps you on your toes and reading until the end. There are scenes of violence, slavery and torture, etc. Probable slavery and/or violence to children. So be careful if those things bother you.

Lucien and Siovan has a chemistry that blazes through it all. Their interaction makes me smile every time. Both of them have a warrior heart and the combination of passion makes it explosive. The secondary characters was a blast. Every one of these characters had facets that make you fall in love. They are as different as day and night.

Readers who love heroines with sass and attitude will love this.

Digger Doyle was eight when his father set off on a secret adventure but did not return. Three years later, a page from his father’s ancient book is sent to Digger from northern Japan—a page only he can read. With his wild cousins, he sails to Japan and meets the super smart Yukiko Satori. Together they venture into the shadowy woods around the eerie Mount Osore to search for a ferocious creature called a Kappa and any clues as to the whereabouts of Digger’s father. The forest is dying. The river is poison. Animals are fleeing. Something is terribly wrong. Digger must face his deepest fears to stop it, and discovers that even when things seem gone in the dark, they are often still there.

There were some truly magical creatures in this world. I liked the way the author spent time explaining their looks and abilities to the audience, especially since I don’t have a great deal of knowledge of Japanese and Asian folklore. It was nice to have such clear images of what these creatures were and why people reacted to them the way that they did. Some of the beasts were feared while others were deeply respected. They were all worth getting to know!

The pacing of this book was slow in the beginning. I struggled to remain interested in it until the plot picked up even though I was originally pretty interested in the subject matter. While I was grateful for the backstory and world building that were established early on, it sure would have been nice to have more action in the plot to keep my interest levels high until Digger’s adventures truly began.

One of the things I liked the most about this tale were the detailed, imaginative descriptions. Mr. Warriner painted such vivid pictures of the places Digger visited that I could see all of them perfectly clearly in my mind. It was like I was exploring those forests, rivers, and other places right beside him! They made me wonder what might happen next and if the places Digger visited would have even more surprises for him than I expected.

I’d recommend Digger Doyle’s Book of Real Monsters to anyone who enjoys adventure novels.

Finally they are together—chained side-by-side in a goblin dungeon. Their only hope for escape is to break the law to merge their powers in a ritual so intensely erotic it binds them for life. However short and nightmarish that life might be…

If you deal with dreams on a daily basis and someone calls out to you through those dreams, or rather their nightmares, is it your ‘duty’ to try and help them? Pryseis thinks it is and she is determined to help a goblin boy, even though he is a different race to her and just one individual. She goes on her journey with just her nephew for company and the dreams of an Elven spirit healer. Benilo is out of balance, quite literally, which is a big thing for a spirit healer. When he dreams of Pryseis, he knows what he must do. Now they just have to survive.

This was a great story albeit very different from the first two. There is no “Champion” of light in this book but rather two people who are working for the light. There are a great bunch of characters who all have their part to play. The world-building is consistently good and I loved the sneaky peek into the world of the fairies!

This is the fourth book in the Guardians of Light series and while I have missed out on book three, it is still very much on my TBR list. If you are looking for great fantasy romances, then I can highly recommend both this book and the series!

The sixth book in the Guardians of Light series, this one focuses on Dax. As you might have guessed from the title, he is betrayed and sent far away in a magic bubble. What he finds there will change his life but only if he can survive it first.

I love this series, I really do. They all are standalone stories and yet also still manage to be interlinked. The focus is definitely on Dax and Maili but Dara and Loren, plus others, play a big part in it too. The story is fast-and-perfectly-paced, each chapter leading onto the next without any wasted words. I am hopeful part of the story is a pre-runner to the next book but I will just have to wait and see.

I have tried to think of something ‘bad’ to say, just to keep my review balanced. Unfortunately for me, I just can’t think of anything. I think the characters are fantastic, whether you are meant to like them or not. I couldn’t wait to finish this book, just so Dax and Maili got their HEA but at the same time, I didn’t want to finish as I didn’t want their story to be over.

This is such a great series and I really can’t recommend it highly enough. For any fans of fantasy romance out there, give this a try and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

When an encounter in a Christmas Maze brings them together, Missy and Trevor discover magic is tangible, mazes aren’t for the shy and awkward, and true love might be found under the mistletoe.

Trevor has been watching Missy from afar for ages. When she stumbles into his maze though, he finally gathers up his courage and starts to open himself up to her. Missy has been equally attracted to Trevor but unsure how to make that first step. With a little nudge and some Christmas magic, can these two start something wonderful?

I enjoyed this fast and fun short story. Santa playing matchmaker always makes me laugh and this lighthearted story was no different. I enjoyed how both Missy and Trevor had been attracted to each other for ages – it helped the pace of the story move much faster. I also enjoyed the fact that Missy’s magic was something completely fresh and new to me – so it was surprising and interesting when it popped up after they managed to complete the maze. I was a little disappointed Missy made a few assumptions about Trevor – with reasons I felt were a little weak at best – and this led to her not reaching out to him at the least to talk and communicate with him. I’d hoped she might be braver and have some faith in Trevor and his attraction to her, particularly since I felt he’d shown her a strong indication of his interest. This really niggled me and lessened my enjoyment of Missy’s character, but I have to admit this helped advance the plot and lent some element of conflict and uncertainty to the whole adventure.

The sex between Trevor and Missy was hot and deliciously explicit. I enjoyed watching them come together and discover the potential for the romance that bloomed between them. I thought the puzzles and mazes were incredibly well thought out and a refreshingly different take on the whole North Pole/Elf thing and have to commend the author on their imagination and creativity.

A short and fun read, this happy Christmas story should appeal to a wide range of readers.

THE MINE is a love story that follows a humbled man through a critical time in history as he adjusts to new surroundings and wrestles with the knowledge of things to come.

The Mine takes us back to the eve of the U.S’s entrance into WWII. We meet Joel Smith, a college-aged man from the early twenty-first century who accidently stumbles through a time portal into the past.

He believes he shouldn’t interfere with the past, but he does so anyway. He just can’t help himself. He saves a guy being beat up, gets welcomed into his family, and meets his own young grandmother. He gets a job and bets on sports’ events he knows the outcomes of in order to get a fist full of cash. However, the guy is charming and quite affable. He does good things with his money.

To further complicate things, Joel pursues an engaged woman and wins her away from her fiancé. Seems like that could lead to trouble. Several situations are set up that really create great suspense. For example, Joel grows close to the man his grandmother dated before she met Joel’s grandfather, knowing the man will die in the war. Will Joel try to save him with foreknowledge and at risk to his own existence? And what about the war? Could Joel do something? Should he enlist?

This is a real page turner and very well written. The secondary characters are important to the plot and are multi-dimensional. The period details are great, and the relationships are realistic. For an enjoyable tale with a vintage flair, this is a good one to check out.

My people are dying out, and if my generation doesn’t find compatible mates soon then my people will become extinct. When I hear of a race called Humans who are capable of breeding with Elorian males, I know we must find some and convince them to mate with single males on Elora.

They are following natural way of elimination as they are using energy, could generally “care less” about how that energy is produced, unless they are participating in a large-scale national or international “mission” related to energy. Their home planet is too far from my own, but a ship of slaves crash-landed on X-2 five hundred years ago and many were of the Human race. It’s there I know I’ll find the females who will save my kind.

It never occurred to me that I would be the first to claim a mate, or that she would have been so horribly abused. Despite her horrific past, my sweet Marcy gives me a chance, and now that she’s mine I will do anything in my power to protect her.

On the Colony of X-2 we meet a young woman named Marcy suffering at the hands of a male named Bruce. Women on the colony are treated as slaves and they have to do anything a male tells them to or face the punishment. Most of the punishments are public so the others would know what would happen to them.

Macy is a strong woman who did her best to survive in a situation that would break most. The horror that all the women were going through would cause anyone to feel anger. When the Elorians find out how the women are in such straits, they find it hard to control their rage. Her courage by taking the chance on leaving with J-Ril is commendable.

The Elite Commander, K-Tan, was on a mission to find these women because his people are facing extinction. When he met Marcy in his room, he wanted her. Their love is sweet and hot at the same time. I enjoyed seeing Marcy finally opening herself to a man and the ability to feel desire. Her trust was hard to earn due to her abuse from other men, and she was still was wary around others. Yet when she became pregnant, K-Tan still decided that he needed to take her home to his planet, as it wasn’t safe at her colony. I was glad when they decided that the rest of the men would take care of the rest of the woman, and that they would not force them to take the Elorians force to mate them.

I loved reading this story, seeing such a sweet relationship develop from a horrible situation. The bond between them is something all men and woman crave, and few find. Great reading.

Things go terribly wrong when Ethan’s jet suffers from mechanical trouble and almost gets killed. She is known for her reckless behavior as in a previous book she had stolen their most guarded spaceship, the Liberty Bell, with help from a robot name Madison. She flew the ship into their enemies, the Crownaxians space to rescue her father and other captured individuals. Most people think of her as a hero but Gen. Knox considers her a reckless and undisciplined young woman. As punishment, she is sent on a mission to the union planet Janar, whose northern continent had suffered extreme storm damaage and needed supplies and medical help. She would be under the command of Capt. Yale Brown who is a close friend and confident for Amy and who is the real captain of the Liberty Bell Her co-pilot is Lt. Ford, who does not take a liking to Amy.

Amy is in interesting and complex character with strengths and faults. She is courageous, well-meaning, and has an ability to take charge when a situation calls for it. She does have trouble with listening to orders and putting herself (and sometimes in others) in danger. She also has trouble like any other teenager, especially in the love department. She has a crush on two boys; Ethan and Cole. She is confused on how to handle those feelings. She also has to deal with the competition between the two.

This is a second book in a series for young adults. It is fast paced and interesting with a heroine that many can relate to. It shows how much friendship and a little crush can affect decision making skills. I did think that the story was a little too long and some of the details could have been left out.

The rest of the characters were incredibly well done and relatable. Yale is a strong character who is a perfect role model for Amy. She shows the girl bravery, comradeship, discipline, and the strength to not give up in any situation. Madison, even being a robot, was unable to understand why the other robots were so devoted to their creator. He was the one that found out Dr. Greenland was going to sell them to the enemy. He had the experience of being free and the friendship of Amy which allowed him to experience feelings the others have not.

Ethan, although not a main character, still plays an important role in the story. Besides being a love interest for Amy, he also is a contrast to her personality; he is more cautious, able to follow orders and is not as strong or experienced in battle as Amy. He does help with fixing up Madison after Yale shot him. He is another great support for her along the journey.

An interesting book for young adults and adults to read. It’ll keep your interest because it is full of action and suspense, but also has parts to teach young adults to handle difficult situations. Although it was the second book in the series you don’t need to read the first to make sense of it. It is rather complex so some may have trouble following along but it is well worth it.

Not every Christmas present comes wrapped in a bow.

As soon as I noticed the witty dialogue in this story, it made me want to keep reading until I’d finished the last sentence. Noel in particular had some great lines in it, and Emma-Jean was filled with intelligent comebacks as well. I sure wasn’t expecting to laugh when I started reading it, so getting to do that was a nice treat.

I would have liked to see the fantasy and paranormal themes play a bigger role in the plot. It took such a long time for them to show up that I wondered if this tale had been mislabeled at first. They were an important part of the story line in the end, though, and there was so much more room for them to be included in what was happening. It would have been nice if they’d been given that additional time to shine.

Ms. Burke did a wonderful job of describing what was happening in each scene. All of her sentences were stuffed so full of detail that it was easy for me to imagine that I was actually watching everything unfold instead of simply reading about it. I especially liked the way she described her character’s bodies, how they moved, and how they were used. Although her talent with words also extended to her descriptions of the settings the characters lived, worked, and played in, too.

Cuckold’s for Christmas should be read by anyone who loves the holiday season.
