This book follows Marcus and Jack. Chapters take turns being in first person POV for each of them. I got to see that being the Alpha for Marcus is hard and he tries to enforce rules that were in place before him. He doesn’t like it but it’s all he’s known. Those very same rules reinforce his loneliness and I felt it wasn’t fair at all. Why should a man be denied love just because he doesn’t follow the status quo? Because I think they’d shred and eat the poor guy, alpha or no. How does a man fight against that?

Jack is a human that gets bitten. He has to face losing who he was and try to fit into Marcus’s world. The thing is Jack has a lot more integrity and feelings than Marcus is used to. Jack is a man who always wanted to please a lover and this new ferocious passion within him threatens that consideration. He wants to survive because, in turning werewolf, he’s found something special to fight for. He has a lot to learn and I felt bad for him too. Once he got over his initial denial stage, he was willing to try. It takes a lot of courage to do that.

The conflict isn’t only about facing the change going from human to something other. It’s about betrayals and about staying true to oneself. It’s also about standing up for what’s right and being aware of someone else’s feelings and then sticking up for them, no matter the price. It’s not that way with Marcus and Jack and that’s why it works so well. There is a clear delineation between the two. The author did an excellent job of that.

On the whole this book was intense. Pack of Lies is not for a reader looking for lighthearted fluff. It’s dark; it’s violent and has a very real feel to it. I liked Marcus and Jack and although the ending has them together, I have a feeling it won’t be an easy road. I hope Ms. Vaughn gives me a chance to revisit these two guys again because I want to read another installment with the hopes that there will be more reasons for both Marcus and Jack to smile. In this book, they’ve earned it. Now I want to see it. The writing was done well enough for me to care. I believe other readers would feel the same and I recommend reading it to find out.

Elements of danger exist, but for the most part Twice Shy is a novella that centers on the three people, their conflicts, and the resolution that brings them together. The work itself is well written and fast paced, and the sex scenes sizzle. Aside from a few instances in which I was confused on who was doing what, I was able to enjoy the book from start to finish without ever putting it down. I should also mention that while it’s not necessary to read the first novella, Once Bitten, to follow along with Twice Shy, I’d recommend doing so if you’d like to have a full understanding of the key secondary characters and back story.

Paranormal romance fans searching for a wolf ménage with a touch of magic will definitely enjoy Twice Shy.

But Ambar most certainly gets stirred as well and everything explodes.

What I enjoyed the most about Ambar’s reaction is her very believable emotions of jealousy, insecurity and fear. This is the first book to actually touch base on what the dynamics are like when a relationship changes and there are more than the usual two players. Ms. Munro totally captured the essence of her characters and ran with it. I felt the perspective to be refreshing and honest. I really could empathize with Ambar’s feelings of betrayal and her fear of being left out. In fact it was awesome how the author got me to feel that too. Everyone knows that feeling at one time or another in their lives of being on the outside looking in and it’s a physical pain. The yearning for something they’ve lost and fear they’ll never have again. And the anger at the person they think has what they had. Those intense emotions are all there in this story and it made quite an impact on me. Did I think Ambar’s reaction went on too long? No, not at all. When I think back on the story, there is so much going on and she naturally takes awhile to learn to trust and share her confidences with them. No one jumps right into a new fragile relationship and bares all. So yes, it’s realistic, touching and it drew me in one hundred percent.

Jake is the first man in her life and he seems to match her quite well. Of coming to trust each other and figuring out what they want out of life and what they mean to each other. I read this book in one sitting because I simply had to find out what it was going to take for each one of them to admit they needed each other to be happy. The secondary characters helped and contributed a sense of a caring community. There is some great detail in this tale and I enjoyed the dialogue, the descriptions and the interactions between all the persons involved.

Tiger by the Tail is another winner for Ms. Munro and my high praise of this book is well earned. Every love scene mattered and with each one a reader can feel the heat building and the love growing. Each encounter had meaning and provided growth in one form or another. It being a paranormal romance, it delivered my personal favorite activity, biting. I love a good kitty bite and this book delivers that too. For someone who reads as much as I do, this reviewer was thrilled to read the unique twist and that it flowed so well with the rest of this short story. Definitely a well-earned 4.5 cherries.

This author has a gift when it comes to creating exciting characters. Once I started reading the first story I quickly made my way through the rest because I had to know what they were going to do next. It also helped that all of the stories followed the Colorado Springs Pack. So each story incorporated the characters from the previous story, and many of the characters were introduced in the previous story so that the flow was continuous.

Pack Mentality: Alpha Bites

This story is about Jenny who is currently dating two separate men. Little does she know that Sasha not only knows she is seeing another man, but is trying to figure out a way for all three of them to be one happy sexual pack. I would like to have seen the fact that they where werewolves play a little bigger part in the story. It seemed to only affect the story in the fact that Liam and Sasha could smell another man on Jenny. Other than that I don’t think it really added as much as it could have. One thing that I did find intriguing about this particular story was the fact that Liam seems to be the one with reservations once things are discovered. In many of these stories both men seem to be on the same page but the woman is the one with the concerns, so it was a nice little twist.

Pack Mentality: Myra’s Mate

I absolutely adore Myra and Colin. I like the fact that Myra is such a free spirit and completely different from not only the pack but the type of female that Colin would normally go for. Colin is able to not only look past the fact that Myra is completely opposite from the type of female he normally goes for, but also he is able to look past the fact that his roommate Steve claims something is seriously wrong with her and no man should ever go near her. In this story we get to follow the budding relationship between Pack Alpha Kamen and Steve. Not only do you see the development within their relationship, but also the disapproval of the direction Kamen is taking that pack by some of the other werewolves. Kamen is definitely an alpha male while Steve still needs direction in his life. So the fact that these two can come together and help one another see a different side of themselves is great. But don’t worry, all of the characters from the previous storie are well-intertwined in this story also. Of all four stories this one definitely had the best plot.

Pack Mentality: Natural Selection

This story introduces two new characters Ryan and Loyal. Unlike the two previous stories, you do not know these characters prior to the story. Ryan is a wolf shifter while Loyal is a Bear shifter. Since in the previous story Kamen, Steve, Myra, Colin, Jenny, Liam and Sasha left the pack to move to a new area they meet Ryan and Loyal. Where the previous stories focused mostly on the couple that particular story was about, in this one it went back and forth between the previous characters and the couple in this story. I think this took away from Ryan and Loyal, so I was not able to connect with them as well as I had with the other characters. I do think this story wrapped up the entire book well, since by then you know the outcome of all of the characters.

There was an inconsistency that I found within this book. They mention in the first and second story that Myra can shift into any organic/living thing including plants, but she will remain that way for the entire three days of the full moon. In the last story Myra takes the form of Colin the first evening of the full moon, but becomes Ryan the second evening and returns to herself in the morning. It confused me a bit, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the stories.

Yummy alpha males are all over this book. It is one of the reasons I enjoy weres so much. Each of these stories has at least one alpha male if not two. And although they exude power and authority they are willing to bend in order to make their partner or partners happy. No man or woman is safe around these shifters. This was a collection I enjoyed. I give it four cherries.
