Rocko had been alpha of his pack for many years and was happy to do what was needed – including killing many humans – to protect his people and keep his pack safe. When Rocko comes across a woman who had been imprisoned by her own human kind, having heard about her protecting an injured pack child Rocko decided to enslave her to take care of the infant girl in his charge. Winter – given the choice between dying along with everyone from her town or being a prisoner and responsible for the life and wellbeing of the baby girl decides to embrace faux motherhood and being the child’s nanny. Will Winter or Rocko regret their hasty decisions?

This is an interesting and fairly intense story. Readers looking for a light or fluffy werewolf/paranormal story won’t find that here. I was a little surprised at how intense I found Rocko – his violent streak, while suppressed, bubbled just under the surface and his near-hatred of all humans had me surprised he chose Winter to become part of his household, albeit in an enslaved and very limited sense. The author explained Rocko’s reasoning very well, but it still surprised me. Winter had been punished and hated by her fellow humans for showing compassion to an injured child of the pack, and Rocko was a believer in the old adage “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, but it still felt a little bit contrived.

I really enjoyed the plot around the baby girl – Daphne – and Winter. It was clear that the circumstances surrounding Rocko getting custody of the child were complicated and something he absolutely wasn’t going to discuss with anyone, especially not Winter in the beginning – so watching that unfold was delightful. There is also a strong plotline revolving around the continual conflict between the humans and the wolves. I feel this lends an edge to the story as the skirmishes – while off screen and not descriptively written for the most part – are quite bloody and violent. I really felt it gave the story an air of barely suppressed violence and a darker edge than I’m used to with my paranormal romances.

The growing chemistry and attraction between Rocko and Winter was steamy and very well written to my mind. I was thrilled that the author gave them both some time and space to circle and slowly come together. Had they simply jumped into bed together from the start I really feel their romance and the strength and trust they both came to feel for the other would have had far less of an impact. The longer length of the story and the numerous other aspects of the story helped highlight to me just how fragile and deep the connection and eventual relationship between Rocko and Winter grew to be. I really loved this aspect of the story and felt it was really well written. The steamy hot, smoking and explicit sex was pretty good too.

Readers looking for a slightly edgier and harder style of paranormal romance with a bit of clashing between the wolves and humans and sex hot enough to burn the page should find this story really fits their needs.

If following Carmelita was a bad idea, it was going to be one of the more interesting mistakes Gil had made. He didn’t just want her. He craved her…and that rarely boded well for him. But just this one time…

When the back door of the bar thumped shut behind them, Carmelita stopped and dragged in a long, deep breath. Her words came out in puffs of vapor. “God, that was suffocating.”

The closeness of the overcrowded bar? The argument with her cousin? The attention? “Why did you come?”

“My grandmother volunteered my services. Fund-raisers are the worst, though. Everyone is so…” Her hands fluttered in a broad circle, encompassing the tearful outpourings of gratitude that marked benefits.

“You’re used to being in the spotlight.”

“I prefer an audience to a crowd,” she said flatly. And the difference was in the separation. She could walk off a stage without interacting with the masses.

She tipped her head back to gaze into the heavens and her body language slowly shifted, as if she was drawing in the stillness. When she started off through the parking lot, she once again moved with fluid grace. Gil matched her stride, closing the space between them so his coat sleeve swished against hers.

“Bing told me about you, and introduced me to your… friend,” she said.

With that slight hesitation, she summed up Gil’s uncertainty about his relationship with Hank, past and future. “I’m his sponsor,” he corrected stiffly.

“Mmm.” A sound that translated to if that’s what you want to tell yourself. “We lack many things up here on the rez, but we do not have a shortage of recovering addicts.”

“I watched Hank grow up. I understand him.”

She angled a searching glance beneath lowered lashes. “I see.”

Yes, she did. There was something in the way she looked at him—through him—that made him want to both hide and move closer. He did neither. The breeze caught her hair, sending a strand fluttering and carrying the scent of pine needles and snow down from the mountains. He swung around to face her as they stopped beside the door to his truck, and when he looked into her eyes, he felt as if he was losing his balance, falling into one of the bottomless mountain lakes—only much warmer. He could just keep sinking and sinking…

She caught him, pressing her hands flat against his chest, but her smile was tinged with regret. “I wish I could stay. You and I would be very good together, I think.”

The image of Carmelita naked and lush under his hands sent heat shuddering through him. Then he registered what she was saying.

“You’re leaving?” Gil frowned at her in disbelief.

The hitch of her shoulder set the moonlight shimmering through her hair. “I can’t leave my grandparents with a sick baby.”

“His mother didn’t seem overly concerned.” Gil’s voice was harsh, along with his judgment of her charming cousin. Even when he’d been regularly popping Vicodin like breath mints, he’d managed to stay clean on the weekends he’d had his son.

Carmelita smoothed her palms over the front of his jacket. “Next time?”

“I won’t be back.”

She angled her head to give him another searching look, then nodded. “You’re taking Hank home. That explains it.”

“What?”

“This.” Her hand moved down, pressing with unerring accuracy over the clutch in his gut. She reached up with the other to brush cool fingers over the knot of tension in his forehead. “And this.”

He wanted to lean into that touch—into her—and let her wipe his mind clean for a few hours.

“I’m sorry I can’t do more.” She stroked a blissful circle on his temple. “But I can give you something for that headache.”

“A fistful of ibuprofen?”

“A promise.” Her eyes were steady, her tone certain. “Hank will be fine. He’s stronger than you think, and whatever you’re keeping from him, he’ll understand it was for the best. So will the others.”

Gil jerked his head back. “I never said anything to Bing about that.”

Her hands fell away and she angled her gaze upward, eyes going distant. In the Panhandle the stars were painted on the sky. Here it seemed as if they were standing among them.

“I don’t know,” she said. “I just feel it. But I’m almost always right.”

Without warning, she tipped onto her toes and pressed her mouth to his. Her lips were cool, but at the touch of her tongue the glowing embers they’d been gathering between them burst into flame, whooshing through him like a prairie fire. His thoughts, the last of his reservations, the ability to think at all were consumed by a wall of heat. He gripped the lapels of her coat to drag her hard against him, and she fisted her hands in the sides of his jacket, pressing even closer. Her tongue slid over his, the friction setting off more sparks.

A palpable shudder ran through her. She braced her hands on his shoulders, slowly, inexorably separating her mouth from his. Then she smiled, a copper-skinned Madonna with fathomless eyes, and pressed a palm over his thundering heart. “You should get some rest, Gil Sanchez. You’ve got a long drive tomorrow.”

When good-time couple Milton and Yvonne Hamilton moved one house over from the respectable-but-restless Odell and Joyce Watson, it was a fast friendship of shared secrets—and secret jealousies and betrayals. Their alliance was bound to crash and burn, but the Hamiltons won’t quite let the flame die out, even after scandalous accusations get them arrested . . .

Dose: For most patients, the proposed dose is 50 mg taken, as cheap online viagra https://www.supplementprofessors.com/cialis-8960.html required, roughly 1 prior hour sexual action; notwithstanding, it might be taken anywhere in the range between the ages of fifty and seventy. Some men have more than one cause for their erectile buy tadalafil cheap dysfunction. So, viagra for if you feel that you are suffering from the life destructing and havoc creating male impotence or erectile dysfunction which is also known as ‘ED’ in short, there is a good news for all of them. Honestly speaking, I never know that I’ll be viagra professional price completely sexually different man. Odell would do anything to be free of his bootlegging, blackmailing, money extorting neighbors and recover the peaceful—and financially prosperous—life he and Joyce once had. But Milton and Yvonne seem to always bounce back from bad luck, and this time they’ve returned angrier, and greedier, than ever. Determined to get what Odell “owes” them, the Hamiltons have a big surprise for Joyce too, one that shows how far they will go to get revenge . . .

Now pushed past his breaking point, Odell is sure he’s got a foolproof plan to end the scheming once and for all. But it soon spirals into lies, shattering violence, and permanent damage that will roil their tranquil community, and alter his and Joyce’s world forever . . .

This is the final book in the Neighbors series. I am sad that the series has ended but the book did not disappoint. My favorite characters, Milton and Yvonne Hamilton, are still at it and perhaps they were in too deep. The story picks up after their release from jail for false charges that were brought against them. Now they are in more debt after their arrest and needing money to pay back a loan. Upstanding neighbors Odell and Joyce Watson continue to live their carefree life. I can’t remember how I felt about Odell in the previous books but I definitely don’t like his character in this book. The way he continues to lie to his wife and her family is very foul.

Milton and Yvonne are always together in their ideas and plans. That’s one reason why they are my favorite characters because in their marriage they are a team and have each others back. I think they took advantage of an opportunity by blackmailing Odell and even though it was wrong I don’t think they deserved what they got for being greedy. I was hoping they would wise up and stop with the money scams. It seemed like the more money they could get the more they wasted. I appreciate that they did try to help Joyce but their plan took a different turn. I didn’t care for Joyce’s character because she thought she was better than others, but I guess she couldn’t help it since its part of her upbringing. She was gullible and naive to the wool Odell had over her eyes. I felt sorry for her and understood her defense in speaking so harshly to Milton and especially Yvonne since Yvonne is pretty and had children something that Joyce lacked. Even though I didn’t care for Joyce I wanted her to question Odell, at least see through his lies or something to show she had some ‘girl power’.

The story ends up closing all loose ends and the ending was a surprise that I didn’t see coming. I enjoyed the characters, the story and I hope the author has more enjoyable series like this.

This is a series that I highly recommend to those that enjoy southern drama.

A Note from the Author

The mysteries are malicious. The recipes are delicious. John Klopfenstein, Criminal Defense Attorney ~ Carmel/Salinas, California

My son Jory and I had a great time collaborating on this book. I wrote the mysteries and he provided the recipes. Together we created some murderous titles for the recipes and decided which types of food would best fit the various mystery stories.

Some of my stories were influenced by being a gangster’s daughter.

Really. My father was a gangster.

He was a bookie, owned a gambling ‘place’ and when he was ready to move on, he and his partner opened a restaurant and bar at the heart of Main Street in Buffalo, New York.

The head of one of the big crime families lived in Buffalo. Odd as it may seem, Buffalo was home to many members of that family in the middle of the twentieth century. There are books about them, telling who they were and what they controlled—from Buffalo to Niagara Falls.

My father knew some of them, I have been told. He was invited to share their goods, their ill gained fortunes and business opportunities. He always refused, and I’m grateful for his wisdom and choice. For some reason they left him alone to forge his own gains.

He did not have or carry a gun. In fact, even though his wife, my mother (who I once called his gun moll in a story I wrote) could be nasty, he was never unkind to her or me. He was generous, and I learned a lot about generosity through his actions.

My boyfriend at the time, his friends and I would stop in at the restaurant. They would even go on their own, knowing my dad loved to have them visit.

What stories he told them! Ones he wouldn’t tell a daughter, he told them and, eventually, his grandson. Who, of course, told me.

I watched my father as he found his way, lost it and then found it again.

Through it all, I always knew I was loved. How lucky I was!

My two sons, his grandsons, also knew he loved them. They were more than special to him; he adored them.

He loved owning and hanging out at his restaurant, The Spaghetti House, and he enjoyed cooking as much as serving drinks and talking to people.

Some people sat at the bar, others in leather booths where meals were served. Passersby stopped to talk with him. Looking back, I know that, for my father, it was the best of times. Food, friendship and family were at the heart of his life.

Remembering my father, and picturing him at a restaurant he owned is what initially inspired me to write stories that took place in a restaurant. I’m a mystery writer, so they had to be about murder, mayhem and, I thought, a fun bit of madness.

Loving short stories, I decided to write a series of short mysteries, all taking place in a restaurant called Manhattan Shadow.

I’m a New Yorker at heart and have lived there for many years, so New York was perfect as the restaurant’s location and the center of the stories’ criminal organization.

.Zero the Bookie is fashioned after my father. He also appears in my Sleuths Mystery Series along with Dick and Dora Zimmerman, reminiscent of the Thin Man characters.

The idea of adding recipes made good sense, since my father was a chef and the stories were set in a mob-owned restaurant. Then, Level Best Books, our publisher, suggested putting a recipe before each story.

I agreed. “Great idea. My son is a fabulous cook; he can create the recipes. Plus, we’ll give them names to fit the stories.

Indeed, we did. For example, “Chicken Piccata Caper,” “The Sacrificial Lamb,” “The Quiche (Kiss) of Death.” Near the end we added, “A Deadly Delicious Dessert.”

It will perhaps seem strange to some readers that those desserts are ‘donuts,’ but those donuts belong to a very important memory. When my father and mother came to visit us after we moved to Long Island, my father brought along a small donut-making machine.

I wisely disappeared from the anticipated mess.

Oh, how his grandsons loved making the donuts, adding different frostings and sprinkles and devouring them. The three of them had such fun! The experiences of those times have long belonged to my son, Jory. I believe they inspired his joy of cooking.

Here are Jory’s thoughts concerning his love of both cooking and his family ties: “Some of my earliest memories about my grandfather include making donuts with him in the kitchen of our house. I remember his kindness, patience, and love for the process as well as the end result. It gave me a lifetime passion for cooking, and a desire to learn the best techniques. It did, of course, also have the effect of creating a lifetime love affair with donuts (come on, they are nature’s perfect food). As I grew older, there were many shared meals and stories that gave me a true appreciation of my grandfather as a person.

“In my family, today, we truly look forward to our evening meals. I have three kids (2 girls, 9 and 7, and a boy 3); my grandfather would have adored them. What I cook allows my children to get know my grandfather through every bite of the cuisine he created. I hope the recipes in my mother’s books inspire good memories and experiences in others, too.”

As I considered mystery stories for the book, I thought about places familiar to me or where I like to spend time.

The story, “He’s A Dead Duck,” was a reminder of a duck pond we lived near on Long Island, years ago. I loved the idea of creating a story beginning with a duck recipe. “The Chicken Piccata Caper” was the easiest; I always ask Jory to make that delicious recipe for me when I visit.
There’s a story centered in a coffee shop: I meet friends there several times a week to take a writing/computer break.

“Malled to Death” is a result of my seeing a mall at death’s door, most stores gone, when I was back east last year.

Never a dull moment in this entertaining and intriguing collection of underworld stories featuring a mob boss with plenty of axes to grind. Fascinating tales told by a talented author. As an added bonus: delicious recipes for the gourmet mobster in all of us. ~ Lida Sideris, author of the Southern California Mystery series

The Family Business

This is a collection of murder mystery stories linked by two main characters, Poppa and the Boss and at times joined by the Senior Sleuths, Dick and Dora Zimmerman and their friend, Zero the Bookie. How they get involved is often a mystery.

Poppa is head Chef for a successful restaurant, Manhattan Shadow, owned by the Boss, a powerful mobster determined to maintain control and power in his territory.

To refuse to work for him would be considered an insult. Not a good thing for Poppa’s wellbeing.

There are silent implications if one should become disloyal. There are consequences implied one doesn’t want to experience.

In the restaurants private dining room murder is often planned for all sorts of irrational reasons that seem very rational to the Boss: including power, greed, control, revenge and of course money.

The stories Poppa could tell…and does.

But who is he telling?

That’s also part of the mystery.

Of course the Senior Sleuths and Zero know.

Alan D’Angelo didn’t plan to be a mobster.

Hardly anyone grows up thinking that’s the career they want. Also it’s a truth few people grow up unscarred if they’ve been badly and constantly abused. The terrible cruelty of his father sent him to the streets early leaving him with a lifetime of terrible memories played out in haunting nightmares.

Sometimes he woke up in a cold sweat screaming at his father who he hadn’t seen since he was a teenager.

He found companionship on the streets of his neighborhood. Joining a gang made him feel wanted, connected. and most of all it made him fee important as if he mattered, something he’d never felt at home.

All too often, it’s what happened. The gangs became family. It did for him. The Mob Boss early on realized he was a natural leader. Before long the small gang of guys from his neighborhood who were stealing from local stores, grabbing old ladies handbags and taking what they wanted off pushcarts grew, demanding bigger and better opportunities.

Marco was his best pal since grade school. They both quit high school in their junior year and took to controlling the neighborhood with their demands and threats. Marco was over 6 feet tall and 250 lbs., and he would do whatever Alan asked of him.

“We’re taking over this neighborhood Marco and after that further uptown for the really big money. You with me?”

Marco nodded and hugged his friend, who for years had protected him from being bullied. He was more than a little slow and if people made fun of Marco they quickly regretted it. Alan used Marco’s vulnerability to his advantage.

Alan, his mother was Jewish and his father Italian, was just under six feet, good looking, street smart and as mean as they come. He would kick someone who made him mad until they had to be sent to a hospital. Later his anger became more menacing with acts of revenge carried out by Marco.

Some mob leaders were known as shadow kingpins, hiding behind those who carried out their orders. Not Alan D’Angelo. He loved being seen, having people show him respect. It gave him the attention he so desired from his abusive father and a mother too damaged by fear to help him.

Alan became known as The Mob Boss by the time he was in his early twenties. He bullied people, threatened them, and called them humiliating names. Over the years, his power and position grew beyond the neighborhood. His reputation for violence and being vindictive gave him power.

Marco always near by had a 1928 tommy gun in the trunk of his car and carried a Smith and Wesson handgun tucked into his belt.

Meantime, D’Angelo made friends with celebrities, politicians and the police.

“Marco, remember what I told you, money talks. Gives ya power and respect. We got that now. We own them, all of them coming to us for help or money. Anyone betrays us, you know what to do.”

Smiling, Marco stood at the entrance of Manhattan Shadow. There was a red carpet, valet parking and hundreds of lights brightening up the windows and entrance. It had taken many months to remodel the space D’Angelo rented, and spent millions of dollars to build it to his vision of being a showpiece.

***

This was opening night. It had it all: lights, camera, action and positive reviews for it’s elegance and excellent food.

Still, the owners reputation left a bad taste in the mouths of many people.

They would be looking forward to closing night.

The Mob Boss had quite a few people waiting in line for his demise.

Years later the Manhattan Shadow’s lights would go out. There would be real shadows surrounding the cold and empty place where a chef served up gourmet meals and gangsters served up murder.

Here is a deadly delicious recipe from The Gourmet Gangster

Chicken Piccata “Caper”
Cauliflower Rice and Fresh Italian Bread

Chicken Piccata is a classic recipe filled with an amazing lemon butter flavor. Place the Piccata over the fresh cauliflower rice (or standard rice, if you prefer) and let the sauce coat the rice for the ideal bite. Use the bread to soak up any extra sauce. The meal is the perfect complement to the crisp, clean taste of the Sauvignon Blanc.

4 skinless and boneless chicken breasts (The thinner the cutlet the better, as it will cook easier and more evenly. If you have thicker breasts, use a meat mallet or rolling pin to pound thin/flatten out.)
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
All-purpose flour, for dredging
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup chicken stock
1/4 cup brined capers, rinsed
1/3 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Season chicken with salt and pepper, then dredge in flour and shake off excess.

In a large skillet over medium high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 3 tablespoons olive oil. When butter and oil start to sizzle, add 2 pieces of chicken and cook for 3 minutes. When chicken is browned, flip and cook other side for 3 minutes. Remove and transfer to plate. Melt 2 more tablespoons butter. When butter starts again to sizzle, add the other 2 pieces of chicken and brown both sides in same manner. Remove pan from heat and add chicken to the plate.

Into the pan add the lemon juice, stock and capers. Return to stove and bring to boil, scraping up brown bits from the pan for extra flavor. Add seasoning to taste and return all the chicken to the pan and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove chicken to platter. Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter to sauce and whisk vigorously. Pour sauce over chicken and garnish with parsley.

Wine Pairing: Sauvignon Blanc.

“You know what this fucking means, don’t you?” Tristan snapped, slamming his car keys onto the hall’s side table and storming into the kitchen.

Jayme hurried after him, her heart racing. Tristan rarely got angry—sure, he often pretended she’d done something wrong and faked being pissed off about it when they played D/s scenes, but real anger—it was something that just didn’t happen. She wasn’t quite sure what had sparked it, either. The news had been unfortunate, yes. Inconvenient, yes—but it wasn’t the end of the world. Tristan’s only choice was to follow the doctor’s advice.

“Um, I take it you mean aside from the obvious?” she ventured quietly, not wanting to piss him off even more.

“Yes,” he said on a heavy sigh, making it clear his anger and frustration weren’t aimed at her. “Come here, you.” He held out his arms, and when she went into them, he hugged her tightly and kissed the top of her head. “Fucking hell, Jayme, I’m really going to miss spanking that beautiful arse of yours.”

“And I’m going to miss you doing it,” she murmured into his chest. Then, pulling back so she could make eye contact, continued, “But we’ll cope. There’s loads of other stuff we can do—we can still have fun. As much as I love it, it’s not worth making the problem worse, or screwing up your recovery once you’ve had the op. Your health is more important, babe.”

“Mmm…” came the reply, along with a very displeased expression.

“Hey,” Jayme said sharply, raising her eyebrows, “you might be in charge in the bedroom, mister, but I’m putting my foot down here. Hopefully you’ll get a date through for the operation really soon. And the sooner you have the op, the sooner you’ll be recovered and we can get back to normal. In the meantime,” she grinned widely, “we’ll just have to get creative, won’t we?”

Much to Jayme’s relief, Tristan finally smiled. “You’re right, as always, wife of mine. Clearly I’m not happy about this—fucking carpal tunnel bollocks, spoiling all our fun—but it could be a lot worse, I suppose. At least they’re not operating on my dick.”

“True.” She giggled. “That would take some creativity of epic proportions!”

“It would. So, does this mean we have to have sex more often, then?”

Frowning, Jayme replied, “How do you figure that out?”

“Well, if it’s too risky to spank you, then surely wanking is going to be bad for my wrist, too. And I’m not sure that when the doctor asked if we had any questions, he meant of this nature, did he?”

Jayme laughed again. “No, I’m sure he didn’t. I think we’d have given the poor man a heart attack if we’d started asking him how we were going to get on with our particular kind of sex life without exacerbating your problem. And I was under the impression we already had plenty of sex and that you don’t feel the need to toss yourself off very often.”

“I don’t.” He shrugged. “But you can’t blame a man for trying, can you? Especially when that man’s wife looks like you.”

“No, I suppose not.” She grinned, then slipped her arms around the back of his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. Closing her eyes, Jayme allowed herself to get into the touching of their lips, the parting, the questing tongues, shoving all thoughts of not being able to have her arse reddened to the recesses of her mind. She loved Tristan with all her heart, and their relationship was so much more than sex and kink, so they’d just have to get on with it.

And what better way to get on with it than to find a way around their unfortunate predicament? She pulled Tristan’s bottom lip into her mouth, then sucked and nibbled at it, enjoying the guttural sounds this elicited from his throat. Letting go of his lip, she then sucked at his tongue, mimicking fellatio on the warm, wet flesh and smirking to herself as his rapidly growing erection pressed against her stomach.

God, yes. The two of them had been together fifteen years, married for thirteen, and were still crazy about each other. What was a little break from spanking in the scheme of things?

Sitting back suddenly as something occurred to her, she said, “Hey, gorgeous. Shall we take this to the bedroom? I’ve had an idea.”

Tristan grabbed her hand and they immediately headed for the bedroom. “Of course. What’s your idea, sweetheart?”

“Well, now,” she replied, grinning wickedly, “that would be telling, wouldn’t it? You’ll just have to wait.”

“Damn,” Tristan muttered, picking up his pace. “I can’t even threaten to punish you unless you tell me.”

“We’ll see.”

After throwing a confused look over his shoulder, he led them up the stairs and into their room before ushering her in and closing the door behind them. “God, you’re gorgeous,” he said, pulling her back into his arms.

“Now, now,” she replied, pushing his chest and wagging a finger at him. “No trying to butter me up just so I’ll cave and tell you what I have in mind.”

Adopting a mock-shocked expression, he said, “Moi? Would I do such a thing?”

“Yes! You bloody would!”

“Yeah, yeah, all right, all right. I totally bloody would. But that doesn’t mean it’s not true. You are gorgeous, and I love you. And I want you.” Gesturing towards the erection that tented his jeans, he gave a wry grin.

“And you’ll have me,” Jayme shot back matter of factly, beginning to remove her clothes. “Now, Sir, could I respectfully ask that you get naked?”

Inner peace is possible when we surrender to who and what we truly are.

After being arrested for protesting at a rally, activist and political science professor, Michael Cooke, meets police officer Beauregard Isiah Guilford. Beauregard is a walking dream—the type of man that makes Michael swoon. All it takes is a single look, a touch, a kiss, and Michael is a quivering, cowering mess.

There’s only one problem. The butch, gruff and muscular Alpha’s ability to showcase Michael’s submissiveness fills him with shame. Unable to accept his role in the bedroom, no matter how fulfilling it might be, Michael breaks up with Beauregard, only to learn that he can run, but he can’t hide from his own truth… no matter where he is, or how far he runs, Michael isn’t complete unless he’s with the one man who unleashed his inner submissive.

Just when it seems all may be lost, an unexpected visit from Santa—yes, the real Santa—helps them realize magic can be had, but only if they believe.

Really rather cute!

I quite liked this, for a short *holiday* story.

Both Michael and Beau have a say, in the first person. Each change occurs as the chapter changes and is clearly headed, so you always know who is talking.

It doesn’t flow very well, though, and I was tempted to dump it at some points. What kept me going was when Michael was in jail and Santa and the elf turned up. Touched on the paranormal, there, and I liked that. I wanted to see how that would all play out.

It was a given that Michael and Beau would end up back together, what I wanted was the HOW it would come about. And whether Michael’s vision would come about.  And it did turn out rather well, I just found it a rather cute read, for a holiday story.

It is, though, the first of three books I can see, and I would like to read them, given the chance. I would also like to read something else by this author, with more pages and more bite.

… Lee sat back in the leather armchair. She’d told him that all he had to do to get a damn good fucking was to stay in the chair until she decreed otherwise.

As he watched Daisy move around the living room Lee thought, not for the first time, how inappropriately named she was. The name suggested someone meek, gentle and childlike. It didn’t conjure the image of a tall, fit, fake blonde, who could get her rocks off simply by beating your arse until it glowed purple.

She was clearing the space in front of him. The coffee table had already been repositioned to the side of the chair, and the newspapers that usually lay all over the place had been stacked up. All the cushions he’d thrown off the sofa had been neatly placed back where they belonged.

‘You are going to reward me for watching you clean up?’ Lee was amused by this uncharacteristic fit of tidying.
Daisy gave him a stare that would have chilled a lesser man to the bone, but Lee had known her for a long time and all it did was increase the arousal of her promise to give him a good seeing-to.

‘Come off it, Daisy. You’re only doing the chores.’

Ignoring him, his partner brushed her hands together, and glancing at the increased floor space across the now uncluttered pale green carpet, left the room.

Lee’s imagination had already moved on to what reward he was going to get for being a good, patient boy. He wondered if he’d have to endure a spanking, or if she’d bind or gag him. Flickers of tense longing played in his stomach and stirred his groin.

Glancing at the clock on the corner of the bookcase, he listened to the quiet tick. It seemed to fill the room as he waited with growing impatience for Daisy’s return. He assumed she was fetching her sex toys, or perhaps changing into something less comfortable. It was with a sense of a surprise and unease, however, that Lee heard the front door open and the sound of muffled voices.

Despite only wearing a red T-shirt and some lightweight black combats, Lee suddenly felt rather hot as Daisy re-entered the lounge with company.

The warning glint in Daisy’s eyes confirmed that Lee should stay precisely where he was, his legs outstretched before him, his arms resting on the chair’s soft padded arms, his mouth shut.

His dark brown eyes moved from his lover to the girl with her. About 25 years old perhaps, with long ginger hair that hung in two perfectly tied pigtails. Slim, but with enough of a curve to catch the eye, her green gaze had a keen, eager to please gleam, that just hinted at mischief.

Lee swallowed very carefully. Daisy hadn’t, had she? Not really? He opened his mouth to ask her if he was right, or if his imagination was running away with him. No sound came out though. He didn’t want to risk her saying he was mistaken and ruining the fantasy that roller-coasted around his lust driven head.

The girl, without taking off either the boots or the long winter coat she wore, even though it was a warm summer’s day, answered his unspoken question, as she lowered her head and knelt on the cleared floor before Daisy; her mistress.

‘Oh my!’ His words were barely audible. Daisy either hadn’t heard them or had dismissed them as unimportant. Lee concentrated very hard on breathing; forcing himself to sit still and not lean forward in the chair….

“Sadie,” a deep, rough, male voice said softly.

She shifted her head and discovered Doctor Luc sitting in one of the breakroom chairs, his elbows resting on his knees as he faced her. Doctor Luc was one of the hottest doctors at Saint Mary’s Hospital, standing over six feet tall, with the build of a professional baseball player, his chestnut hair trimmed short, tanned skin, and eyes the color of the sea at sunset. All the women in the hospital were hot for the single doctor who unfortunately had a strict policy about not dating co-workers. As it was, his thick, dark brows and forehead were scrunched with concern, the corners of his mouth turned down in a frown.

“What happened?” Sadie wanted to play it off like she had merely fainted and hadn’t a clue. It wasn’t that she had hidden her PTSD from human resources, but she had downplayed the severity of her condition. If they discovered that she could have attacks that incapacitated her, they would remove her from the job. If she didn’t have her job, she had nothing. No anchor to keep her sane.

“That’s what I would like to know, Sadie. One minute you were fine, and the next, you were unresponsive. Your face went ghost white, then you issued a blood curdling scream, and fainted. Your vitals are good. I checked. Otherwise, I would have you in a hospital bed and not the breakroom.”

She winced as she sat up, woozy from the attack. They always left her hollowed out and unsteady. Typically, the best medicine was to crawl back into bed and sleep it off. But she had hours left to go in her shift.

“How long was I out?” She glossed over the screaming and unresponsiveness.

“Not long, fifteen minutes or so. What happened back there?” Luc pressed, not backing down. The man was like a dog after a bone. It was what made him an excellent doctor.

“It’s no big deal. I’m fine now,” she said, although she wasn’t, not by a long shot.

“Bullshit. You are not leaving this room until you explain what happened back there. I will not have anyone treating patients when I don’t know what the fuck happened, or potentially put a patient at risk. Your only option is to explain, or I will have to get HR involved,” Luc demanded, his face stern.

From the set of his jaw, she knew the man would not be budging from his stance anytime soon. She caved. What choice did she have? None. “Human resources already know about my diagnosis. I have post-traumatic stress disorder that stems from a serious car accident I was in two years ago. The majority of my episodes are manageable. I am able to pull myself back from the edge before they get too overwhelming. Back there, the accident victim tripped all my danger attack imminent sensors before I could get a handle on them. You see, I’m like the victim’s little girl. I was the only one to walk away from the accident.”

“Jesus Christ, Sadie. I’m sorry. I didn’t know. Who did you lose?” Luc’s sympathy was almost her undoing. Because behind the sympathy was always pity. Sadie loathed the pity. Bad things happened. There was no rhyme or reason to it. They could happen to anyone at any time. And she was still here, fighting to keep her head above water most days, but she was doing it.

But his sympathy had her fighting back tears. Sadie nodded. He deserved the truth.

My Top 5 Current Favorite Computer Games by Tia Fielding – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Tia Fielding who is celebrating the recent release of her newest book Four, a Love by Numbers book.

My Top 5 Current Favorite Computer Games

I honestly don’t know if anyone who might read this is into gaming at all, but since I’m closing in on forty, I’m queer, and I love PC games I thought I’d write this list anyway, because a lot of people think a person like me couldn’t possibly be a gamer!

1. Dead by Daylight – This is one of my all time favorite games for whatever reason, so of course it made this list. DbD is a horror-esque game, where you play either one of four survivors or a killer. Then, you’re plopped onto a map, where the survivors repair broken generators to power up the exit gates to escape. The killer, of course, tries to catch them, hook them on these big meat hooks (by the shoulder, it’s a game, it’s not realistic…) and after being hooked 2-3 times, the survivor is claimed by the Entity, the universe’s deity of sorts.

Whether you play a killer or a survivor, you get your pick from variety of characters, and even some horror movie ones have been added to the game. You can now play as Freddie Kruger, Michael Myers, or the Pig from the Saw movies, to start with (there are others too.) Some of the survivors are from those movies as well, but there are both original survivors and killers, too.

In all its simplicity, Dead by Daylight is a lot of fun. The more you play, the better you get, and you end up playing with people with your skill level which opens up a lot more strategic options in how you play.

Of course there’s a lot more to the game, like offerings you burn at the start of a match to change certain things, or the perks—think of them like additional skills your character has—you can choose from, or even the items the survivors can take with them, such as maps, tool boxes, and first aid kits to name a few.

If you can stomach horror games and like co-operative games, this might be worth checking out!

2. Coloring Pixels – Now I got to admit, this next one is a bit of a change of pace. It’s literally what it sounds like; a coloring game where you color pixel graphics. Each image is made up from little squares, pixels, and you choose a color that’s on the block, and then click to fill it. You can zoom in and out as you wish, and pick from different sizes of images with many different subject matters. It’s the polar opposite of DbD, and it’s my favorite chilling out and calming down method. Funny, because I’ve never been able to calm myself by coloring books in real life!

3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – Ah, Ancient Greece. In this stunning game, you travel around Greece on your ship, do quests for people, and try to figure out your character’s heritage-related issues. That’s all I’m going to tell you about the main plot.

It’s so, so beautiful and these games are always so historically accurate it’s scary. The one in the series before Odyssey, Origins, was set in Ancient Egypt, and boy, if that’s your thing, I highly recommend it. Origins also has a sightseeing mode, so if you want to go check out the reconstruction of a pyramid or the Library of Alexandria, and you have someone who plays this game in your circle, just ask them if they could show you around!

4. Minecraft – Okay, okay, hear me out here…. I know everyone and their uncle was playing Minecraft like five years ago and you probably haven’t heard much about it unless you have a Minecraft-addicted kid or something. I played it a bit then, too, I’m not going to lie about that.

Doctors Choice Kamagra sildenafil jelly has been used by men in Malaysia and other Asian countries for this sildenafil canada problem. A study suggests that symptoms of OCD in Japanese patients are comparable to those found in Western countries, clitoral manipulation rates up to 88%. cialis sale in australia There could pop over to these guys order generic levitra be several reasons why this health condition hunts an individual for either short or long time. Kamagra 100mg is a recommended system for the therapy lovemaking dysfunction; therefore men should take it under the rules prepared by a physician. cheap viagra Lately, they’ve added things to the game, and in some ways, Minecraft is still one of the best survival games out there, even with the dated graphics style and simplicity. Trust me, I’ve tried more than dozen survival games in the last decade, I know what I’m talking about!

5. Youtubers Life – This game was my random pick from the Steam Summer Sale. It’s basically a simulator where you start as a character who wants to be a Youtuber. You make videos (music, cooking, or gaming related ones) and try to advance in your career, get money to upgrade your gear, to move out of your mother’s house, and become a Big Name Youtuber eventually.

When I put it like that, it might sound lame, but it’s actually quite a lot of fun, especially if you’re into the thing your channel is specializing in—for me, obviously gaming.

If you enjoy simulation games and like YouTube, maybe give it a go?

If anyone who read this wants to know more about gaming or wants a friend to play Minecraft or Dead by Daylight with, just holler at me on social media and we’ll figure something out!

Kitty’s War by Barbara Whitaker

Review by Snapdragon

Seeking adventure, shy Kitty Greenlee joins the Women’s Army Corps. In 1944 England, as secretarial support to the 8th Air Force, she encounters her dream man, a handsome lieutenant who only has eyes for her blonde friend. Uncomfortable around men, Kitty doesn’t think the handsome officer could want someone like her. Recovering from wounds, Ted Kruger wants to forget about losing his closest friends and have fun before returning to danger as a bomber navigator. When Ted recognizes Kitty as the girl who rescued him two years before, he must choose between dating the sexy blonde or pursuing quiet, serious-minded Kitty even though he knows he’s not nearly good enough for her. As the war gears up with the D-Day invasion, will Kitty and Ted risk their hearts as well as their lives?

Katherine’s story begins in 1942. Kitty is a young America woman, in wartime, visiting home to help her family and has set aside her own dreams and hopes. Yet, oddly, the war comes to her doorstep. She finds herself sailing east not long after.

It was a time when good and bad were black and white; and this is very apparent throughout. Kitty’s choices–like becoming a WAC–win reader’s approval immediately. So do her deliberate actions to fit in and contribute to the war effort. She’s determined to do her part.

Likewise, there’s a certain Allied fighter out there we get to know, who is so easily seen as a hero, and whose circumstances put us on the front-lines. We experience his courage as well as his nightmares. It is amazing to ‘see’ action through the eyes of a fighting man, but also to realize he is very human, also.

Family and friendships have a great impact on Kitty, as war has a dreadful and unpredictable impact.

Both characters win reader’s hearts and of course we have great hopes for them. However, nothing is a ‘given’ and no spoilers here!

This really is a wonderful glimpse at life in wartime. Characters and situations are entirely believable, and dialogue is wonderfully ‘conversation style.’ Whitaker has obviously done a huge amount of research into wartime, and what life was like in London during the war years. This is a wonderful romance that surely transcends the idea of a simple ‘war time’ romance.

Wonderfully descriptive words and phrases enhances the tone of every section, from the melancholy opener to the more dramatic scenes. Sensations and detailed settings always figure high; perhaps a trifle too high, on occasion, as description can slow the pace. However, those who love to read will relish some sections of this work.
