Genevieve Drake is a Dhampir — half vampire, half mortal, born and bred to be the perfect complement to her vampire mate, like those of her family for sixteen generations. Instead, she chose to become a cop. Three months ago she survived a vicious attack by a psychotic ex that left her with psychic scars and a desperate need for a new line of work. Time to rethink her future.

Hunter is tall, dark and handsome — and very, very powerful. He’s also been waiting for Genevieve. She was just sixteen when he had a vision that they’d one day become lovers. He’s been biding his time ever since.

But Genevieve’s experiences have left her unable to trust any man, even Hunter. If he wants them to have a future, the vampire will have to find a way to banish her ghosts…

Sometimes the hardest thing to overcome is the past. What do you do when the man of your dreams wants to help you heal? Do you give in? Or stick to your comfort zone?

Pick up The Dhampir and read on.

Angela Knight writes great paranormal stories. Her characters keep your attention while the world she creates pulls you in. The storyline moves at a quick clip.

Genevieve is an interesting heroine. She’s got emotional scars that she can’t always control. It’s nice to see a heroine who isn’t perfect. She’s totally in lust with Hunter, but she’s afraid to let go. I know lots of people who feel the same way at times and it’s refreshing.

The sex in this story sizzles, but herein lies my quandary. This is a short story and the love scenes scorch the page, but it almost happens too fast. I wanted to see the physical attraction build at a little slower pace to make the sex feel more natural and less forced. I realize this is an erotic story, but I wanted to see more passion and emotional investment within the sex.

If you want a story that has parts that will make you squirm, cheer, and smile, then you need to read The Dhampir. I give this story 3.5 cherries.

Making a critical decision, he attends a dance, trying to face his true feelings rather than hide them. There he meets Nick Bertolli, a fabulously beautiful man filled with an ocean of love he needs to share, love that will help Eric heal and grow.

As Eric accepts what is in his heart, he and Nick will face several obstacles on the road to happiness. Eric’s ex-girlfriend, Nick’s abusive former partner, and a terrible act of violence will test them, but their affection and desire for one another will never falter. Of one thing they can be sure: they will always love one another.

Beautiful Viking has a tenderness and sincerity shining from it, which makes it difficult to put down. Part coming out story, part romance, the story conveys emotions with the force of conviction of the true romantic’s heart. I wanted things to work out for Eric and Nick; I shared in their joys and fears. The unfolding of their love for each other was truly lovely to watch.

Now, I know some men say it ad nauseum, I hear enough of it in line at the grocery store, but in a novel, it becomes rather tiresome.

The plot takes some odd, twitchy turns as well, and could have used some judicious slicing and dicing. We start with one villain, who is dealt with and sort of fades off-screen, only to be confronted by another one later, who, again, doesn’t seem crucial to the plot. I had the feeling at times of meandering from one episode to another, as if this were a TV show, rather than following a cohesive dramatic arc.

I think the author has the right idea, and shows good instincts especially on an emotional level which served to keep me turning pages. I did love the characters and their interactions with the families and friends. With a bit of honing and polishing, I believe Mr. Sampson will become a force to be reckoned with.

Love knows no limits…

Briony considers herself easy to please. All she wants is a Dominant who’s wickedly creative and completely devoted to conquering her—and only her—with joy. She has everything she wants until her Dom takes on another girl. Bri delights in fantasy role play, inventive toys and bondage at Hell Mary’s BDSM club, but she doesn’t do poly.

Now she’s on the hunt for a new play partner who’ll give her exactly what she needs. A little flirtation with Hell Mary’s Dungeon Monitor is just the thing to ease her back into circulation—except the hardass wrapped in khaki treats her like she needs protection.

Behind his imperturbable DM mask, Chris has eyes only for Bri. It’s his job to make sure things don’t get out of control at the club. Despite her bravado, Bri’s broken heart is like a target painted on her back. She needs to learn some things on her own, but when a private scene goes too far, he can’t wait any longer to step in—and show her she doesn’t need fancy trappings.

His body is more than enough.

Briony is a submissive looking for a new Dom. On a weekend away Briony catches her Dom cheating on her. Once she comes home she decides to start fresh. No more feeling bad for herself. She even registers online at a BDSM site. One night Briony goes out to meet her friends at Hell Mary’s, their regular BDSM club. Once there she sees a man that she thinks she may like to start a relationship with, the dungeon monitor. As Briony tries to get over her breakup she begins seeing an old friend on the weekends but his play is just that, only play and Briony is looking for love. Will she find it with the dungeon monitor of Hell Mary’s or will she be looking forever for love?

Seeing Briony stand up for herself and not letting a cheating Dom rule her life and actions was a good read. I enjoyed the fact that Briony could and did stand on her own two feet, even to the point of placing an online ad, which resulted in a few interesting and even funny replies.

Chris is great man and perfect Dom. He watches and gives his sub what she needs not only what she wants. Even though he may want her, Chris waits until Briony pulls herself back together and has gotten over her cheating Dom before he shows her just what a real man does. The trust that builds between these two is not only a sweet but also a hot read. One can only hope to find someone that will be able to read them so well. I loved the fact that Chris showed Briony that she did not need fancy toys and restraints to enjoy the lifestyle — he proves a kitchen table and some towels will do perfectly well.

This story is a quick read… but maybe a little too quick. With its strong characters and storyline I think this book could have developed into a more intense and longer story that would have packed even more of a punch. During a storm in the marshes of Southern Louisiana, Rachel Thierry finds herself seeking shelter in an old cabin, never dreaming a childhood friend now resides there.

Etienne Broussard’s trip into New Orleans was curtailed and he returns home to find Rachel sound asleep in front of the fireplace. All softness and curves, and with a sexual hunger as deep as his own, Rachel is everything he ever wanted in a woman.

Outside the storm rages as Rachel and Etienne push the boundaries of friendship and their passions erupt into a fiery inferno that will forever change their lives.

A storm rages over the bayou and waters rise, cutting off access to a lonely cabin. But neither Rachel Thierry nor Etienne Broussard complain about their enforced isolation, or the inescapable intimacy.

Dominique Adair turns a classic story of childhood friends rediscovering each other and redefining their relationship into a delightfully entertaining erotic encounter.

Two strong characters who know what they want, can reassure each other about the inevitable changes that adulthood brings, and yet explore the exciting novelty of a budding romance, create an atmosphere as charged as the lightning-laden weather outside the cabin.

Left behind by her human expatriates, Nere Aditi is caught in the sensual upheaval of the Komentani spring celebration. When Akosh Feltiruakh rescues her from the uninhibited crowd and hides in them in his house, they both become prisoners of their passion. But there are other powers fascinated by the telepathic abilities of the Komentani and seeking to profit from a tie between a human female and a half-alien hybrid. Once the marsh winds die down, Akosh and Nere will have to fight for their lives, and the fate of their union may herald the future of a whole race.

Imagine you’re a foreigner in a foreign land. You know you should hide or flee, but something draws you. You can’t seem to walk away. And then you see him—you mate. But he’s not human. Do you accept fate, or do you run as dictated by those in power? If you’re Nere, you stay and enjoy the ride.

What am I referring to? Read Spring Rites and find out.

Ms. Caprice’s tale of fantasy is unique. Her characters, Nere and Akosh are total opposites, yet they find common ground in matters of the heart. Although I felt the setting lacked a bit of detail, the story kept my attention for the most part. Akosh is a strong Komentani man. He’s got the best of both the human and Komentani worlds – compassion and a wicked set of fangs. Oh and he’s got fur. Although I found it hard to picture him, I respected his warrior spirit. When he set his mind to mate with Nere, he let nothing distract him.

There is a baddie in this story, but he’s not who you think and the twist is great. Readers can identify with the struggle to belong in the alien nation as well as the need to be with the one he or she loves.

Can their love withstand the truth or will Lynette’s destructive plan separate them forever?

Guardians come in all shapes and sizes. What draws me as a reader to them is the size of their heart. Ashling is an assassin with a heart. She has the unenviable task of stopping a werewolf victim from becoming a werewolf, and does it with courage, grace and compassion. She’s a lovely character to spend time with.

Since readers tend to latch onto the first character they set eyes on in a book, killing him off on page two set me aback. I had to adjust to the “Whose story is this?” all over again. The weakness was in the editing. I think it could have used some tightening, some spots that would have worked better with less telling, more active tense. I wish it could have been longer. It wrapped up awfully fast.

But I enjoyed it overall. I liked spending time with Ashling and Blake, and I liked the pro-truthfulness theme. Lying to each other in a relationship never works out. Glad these two learned that.

To save the one they love, they’re going in with spells blazing…

Duals and Donovan: The Different, Book 1

Elissa Donovan is a real green witch—when she and her lion-shapeshifter husband have sex, the blazing heat is recycled to warm their house. Now her beloved Jude has been kidnapped by a shadowy government agency, and the last place she can turn for help is her high-powered family, who considers her magic mediocre.

When Rafe Benedict gets Elissa’s call for muscle to back up her magic, he risks his law enforcement career to answer. He’s spent a lifetime hiding his Dual ability, but something about Elissa and Jude’s magic awakens the cougar within him.

Tempting, bronzed Rafe is the perfect fuse for Elissa’s sex-fueled magic. Danger lies in breaking her vows; joining with anyone other than her true mate could not only send her marriage up in flames, it could burn out her powers in a last, all-or-nothing explosion. But Jude is worth the risk. And for Rafe, potential heartbreak is nothing next to the chance to help the two people he’s coming to love.

First, though, Rafe needs a crash course in Cougar…

When you have something valuable, you’ll do everything in your power to protect it. When the head of the family is a Lion, the stakes get higher and the fever hotter. But you have to do what you have to do to protect—at all costs. And you need to read Lion’s Pride.

Ms. Roberts’s story is gripping from the beginning. You immediately see the bond between the characters and though they don’t know how to accept the attraction, you can feel the need for them to be a unit. I like the mix of the three: a lion, a panther, and a witch. It showed that even when the chips are down, we have to work together to get to the common goal.

Elissa is a great heroine. She’s strong, doesn’t take crap from anyone, and she loves her hero with all her heart. I also like her struggle to deal with the things she had to do. She needs to save Jude, but to do so, she has to make a sacrifice. You go through her ordeal and feel for her.

Jude and Rafe are a great set of heroes. Alone, they are the personification of the alpha male. Both are strong, tough, and ready to fight for the one they love. When they have to get together, they are unstoppable. But just like Elissa has to make a hard decision, Jude and Rafe have to decide if they want to own up to their desires. For a man who lives and breathes his heterosexual beliefs, Jude is definitely stuck. But his ultimate conclusions and actions are satisfying to witness.

If you want a story chock full of sex and heart, then you need to read this book. If you want a short, breezy read, then you want to keep going. But if you can devote time and care to reading a story, then this one is for you. I give Lion’s Pride 3.5 cherries.

Humans are animals.

When three biologists are captured in the remote woods of northern New Hampshire and forced to make pornographic videos, they are surprised by their own response—biology overrides fear and inhibition and primal desire takes over. When they escape and resume their normal lives, they find the animal passions they conjured are not so easily forgotten.

Even though it was the young intern, Kevin, that Jessy was forced to be with during their captivity, it’s Conrad she’s crazy about, and has been since he took over the job as the fisheries crew foreman. After a summer of watching his gorgeous 6’5” body keep a cool distance, Jessy hopes the abduction has opened his eyes. Maybe he’ll finally be ready to give a relationship a try.

But their kidnappers are not happy with the way their three porn stars ran away. Just when Jessy’s aimless existence seems to be finding focus—on Conrad—she finds herself the target of more dangerous games.

Humans are animals. And sometimes…they’re prey.

A bunch of animals—human animals—terrorize sweet Jessy Tanner and her colleagues on a field trip that goes very much awry.

Jessy Tanner is a divorced musician who ended up as a fisheries biologist and doesn’t quite know what to do with her life next. She’s spent a companionable summer with Conrad, the new, gorgeous crew chief who doesn’t seem to care that she’s a woman, and hot and horny 19-year-old Kevin, the summer intern. But on this trip, Jessy, Con and Kevin won’t be doing catch and release on the animals—the animals have caught them, and release is not on the agenda.

Kevin and Jessy, forced to perform for a camera, find that they enjoy themselves more than they would expect under the circumstances. Conrad, kept in the sweltering, rusted trailer where they have been caged, realizes Jessy is more than just a woman, he wants her to be his woman. The three escape and try to get on with their lives. Animals by Gemini Judson is a sweet love story with a rocking suspense full of many twists and turns and some truly frightening moments. There are also, however, some slower moments, and I felt that too much of what was truly important was told, rather than shown, early on. Then when Ms. Judson shifted gears many pages on, seemingly assuming the reader would understand her reference, I couldn’t always follow along.

Jessy is a sweet woman still trying to figure out what to do with her life three years after the end of her lackluster marriage. I admired her ability to be blunt but kind, to tell Conrad how she really felt, and to survive her scheming sister and indifferent mother’s visit. And when she got the chance to pursue her dream, I cheered for her even as I wondered what she was doing leaving behind 6’5” of hot, devoted man. The other characters, however, fell sort of flat. We did not learn much about their history or motivations.

Ms. Judson was a little heavy handed with her theme that we are all animals, there were occasional minor but distracting editing gaffes, and just as a personal preference I do not care for the author calling cocks “meat”, but all in all, Animals was an enjoyable read that I would recommend to fans of hot romantic suspense.

Why should she be cautious? After all, where had it gotten her except alone on a Friday night? It certainly hadn’t gotten her a date with her adorable neighbor, Tim. So when she meets a dark, magnetic man in a mask claiming to know her every desire, she surrenders to his seductions…and for the first time engages in a steamy one night stand with a stranger.
