For West Coast filmmaker Bobbi Gallagher, going back to Sultry Springs is a last resort. But with her career in tatters, a documentary set in her hometown might be just what she needs to salvage her reputation. She just can’t let anything distract her again. Not even the gorgeous contractor her brother asked to watch over her. As if she can’t handle filming a few rowdy Texans.

Golden boy Trey Lewis, with his blond hair and Technicolor-blue eyes, is a leading man if Bobbi ever saw one. He’s strong and confident and—much to her delight—usually shirtless. He thinks keeping his best friend’s baby sister out of trouble will be easy. But he has no idea of the trouble in store for him…

There had been many theories floating around Sultry Springs about what happened to little Bobbi, especially since she was raised by a drunk who abandoned her oldest child. This created a interesting background story for the main character of A Shot of Sultry. Bobbi had fought tooth and nail from a young age to prove to everyone and herself that she was nothing like her mother. Yet, she still couldn’t avoid scandal. When she returns to Sultry Springs she knows she will need to face the past her mother had left behind including a sibling she knows nothing about.

Bobbi’s story intrigued me. I knew a bit about her from the previous story in this series, so I already wanted to know more about her. I was not disappointed. Bobbi’s upbringing definitely plays a role in who she is as in adult. It is clear she has some personality flaws and strengths because of what she seen and has been through. It made me root for her immediately since I saw her as an underdog. I also enjoyed the way that Bobbi seemed to have a spice for life even after all she had been through. While it may take her a while to figure out that she cannot have the picture perfect life no matter what, she does figure it out and seeing her develop and learn from her mistakes was truly entertaining.

Trey is a character I absolutely adored in the first story and was excited to see premier in A Shot Of Sultry. He has a unique wit and charm to him that draws woman including myself. While his charming ways may seem to be a facade to get laid to some, he genuinely cares about everyone, which is refreshing to see. He still has a certain male arrogance to him, which I look for in a alpha male but it is subtle and he can surely talk a girl like Bobbi out of her pants.

Both the personal and the relationship development of both characters in this book held me captive throughout the story. Add this to the introduction of some interesting secondary characters and this author has a winner. While having read the previous story enhanced this story, it was not necessary to enjoy it. Not only would I recommend this story to others, I have already and would suggest anyone who wants a good story they want to curl up with at the end of a long day.

To escape the scheming, pawing clutches of her late husband’s nephew, Arabella Darlington turns to Raymond Olivier, the only man she ever loved, for help. But the sweet Raymond she knew as a girl is now the dissolute Earl of Pembroke—the most notorious rake in London.

When the situation turns deadly, Arabella and Raymond are forced to hide in the country. As she finds herself succumbing to Raymond’s puckish charm, Arabella starts formulating a new plan: how to persuade a rake to propose.

I could not put this book down with its enchanting characters, diabolical plots, and just all around great entertainment.

Raymond is a charming devil who can woo any woman. There is just something about the way he carries himself that causes women to follow him around like puppy dogs looking for a home. Every women but Arabella, that is, so it is only natural that she is the only woman that he craves. I’ve always been a sucker for a strong, arrogant, take charge kind of man and Raymond is all of this and more, and I just could not get enough of him.

With all of Raymond’s endearing (and not so endearing) qualities he still did not outshine Arabella. While reading this story I could not help but think that Arabella is a modern woman stuck in a historical time. While she may seem a bit shy and timid to an outsider it is clearly not the case once one gets to know her. She has spent her whole life walking on eggshells around men and she will no longer put up with it. So she finds an inner strength that she did not realize she had and declares her independence no matter the cost. As a female who also sees herself as independent I appreciated this declaration and rooted for her to find her independence, while not letting it blind her to the opportunities that have presented themselves or always existed.

The author created some intricate plot lines that really drove this story from beginning to end. The conflict  is a driving force behind the story as well as the love interest, and other sub plot that either help or hinder Arabella and Raymond keep the pages turning. The plot and the dynamic characters really seem to enhance one another and created one spectacular story. Even before I finished the story I was asking myself when I would be able to read it again. I even referred the book to others before getting to the last page. The author definitely has a winner with this story, and I would highly recommend you get it today.

When All is Lost

All Grant Benton, Earl of Crowle, can think of is restoring his family’s fortune so he can go back to being a gentleman of leisure. But when he meets beautiful, purposeful Lady Irene Knopp, he begins to question whether there might not be a better way to live life after all…

What’s Left is Desire

Lady Irene will never give up her fulfilling work dressing the most beautiful brides in England. She’d rather risk losing love forever than sacrifice her own life’s purpose. Yet she has never met a more magnetic, attractive man than Grant. Trapped between the fleeting chance at love and passion for her work, is it possible she can have it all?

I have to confess, this is my first forray into the works of Jade Lee. I know, I know, I should’ve picked up one of her books before now. I’ve remedied the situation with this book, What the Bride Wore. The writing simply flows and I couldn’t put the novel down. I felt like I was right there in London with Irene at the dress shop and Grant during his…issues. There is a bit of mystery woven through the book and it’s interesting how it all works out. You’ll have to read the book, though, to find out what exactly happens and when!

Irene is a great character. She’s strong, tough and knows what she wants. She’s also very congnizant of the Ton. It’s got to be hard being a widow and knowing people are scrutinizing your every move. I liked her pluck at wanting to have a job. I even rather enjoyed her in-laws. Much of the time these characters are shoved to the background and left very one-dimensional. Not in this book. There are some other secondary characters I’d love to read about. Wendy and Helaine come to mind. I loved them.

Grant…now there’s a tough nut to crack. Initially, I didn’t care for him as the hero. I understood the plot device Lee used, but there were times when it didn’t make sense. Eventually the rational is revealed and that makes a whole lot more sense, but early on there are facets of Grant’s personality that made me dislike him. Once he really got himself together and stopped wallowing, he’s a great hero. I enjoyed seeing him grow as a person.

I know a lot of historicals are sweet or spicy in nature. Be warned, this book sizzles. There are moments that aren’t for the faint of heart. The chemistry between Irene and Grant, even when they aren’t between the sheets, is explosive. I loved seeing them banter. But don’t let the heat level keep you from picking up this book.

If you want a read that will keep you up past bedtime having to know what will happen next, then this is the book for you.

“Where would I begin to explain it all…?”

Twenty-six years have passed since the death of Jane Austen. Armed with a lock of Austen’s hair as perhaps her best clue, Anne Sharp, former governess to the Austen family and Jane’s close friend, has decided at least to tell her story—a story of family intrigues, shocking secrets, forbidden loves, and maybe even murder…

Upon its publication in the UK, Lindsay Ashford’s fictional interpretation of the few facts surrounding Jane Austen’s mysterious death sparked an international debate and uproar. None of the medical theories offers a satisfactory explanation of Jane Austen’s early demise at the age of forty-one. Could it be that what everyone has assumed was a day by natural causes was actually more sinister?

Lindsay Ashford’s vivid novel delves deep into Austen’s world and puts forth a shocking suggestion—was someone out to silence her?

Written in what seems a classic voice from the main character’s own time, Lindsay Ashford brings us Jane Austen – through the eyes of a friend.

The governess, Anne, is affronted by the very idea that Jane was little more than drab, sad being of the times. Jane’s nephew seems determined to portray his aunt as a particularly uninteresting person, with little life.

As a result, the cheap viagra for women prevention of an egg takes place from ripening and after being released from the ovaries after every month.
Anne – so long a governess for Jane’s brother’s children, has a much different view. Not only that – she has suspicions, long held suspicions. Framed as a memory of Anne’s, this tale opens with the discovery that Jane Austen was almost certainly poisoned. We sit back, ready for something on the lines of a detective novel – but no, Anne, our narrator, brings us back to the times she remembers. She begins with Jane visiting the home she works in, how they become friends, the discovery that something, or someone in that has is not …quite… what they appear.

The family is entangled in ways that don’t show on the surface. Anne, a mere governess, carefully pretends to remain unaware – but Jane, and her own dear sister Cassandra, can hardly have remained unsuspicious.

Ashford remains true to the time, and to her narrator. The Mysterious Death of Miss Jane Austen offers an incredible level of intrigue, but in the style of its times. We are in an old family home, Godmersham Park. The downstairs servants apart from the family, and the mistress of the household, Elizabeth, is not the lovely sister-in-law what might imagine. In fact, more than one of the family apparently have some secret – it is the kind of secret that seems most important. There is an undercurrent of anger …and most certainly jealousy.

Whispers and rumors feed Anne’s ideas, as well as her own observations of the family. The aura of the times is most surely secure, with afternoon teas, and picnics for the children, and polite amusements like coming up with clever riddles. The adults attend balls.

As interesting and driving as the mystery is – this story also bring forward a delightful and truly interesting Jane Austen. It is wonderful to meet her ‘as a friend,’ and more wonderful to follow some of the events of her life. She is clever and observant and those things – things we learn from reading her own stories – might well have contributed to her death. Fiction it is, but I could believe it as biography.

The Mysterious Death of Miss Austen is the best story I have read in a very long time.

“Stop! Or I’ll shoot your hat off.”

Maggie Tucker has just gone through hell. Outlaws murdered her husband, looted their camp, and terrorized Maggie before leaving her lost and alone in the wilds of Wyoming. She isn’t about to let another strange man get close enough to harm her. Sage Lightfoot, owner of Paradise Valley ranch, his hunting for the men who killed his best ranch hand. But what he finds is a beautiful, bedraggled woman digging a grave. And pointing a pistol at his heart. From that moment on, Sage will do anything to protect the strong-yet-vulnerable Maggie. Together, they’ll embark on a life-changing journey along the dangerous Outlaw Trail, risking their lives…and their love.

Maggie Tucker’s life completely changed when rowdy cowboys killed her husband, took her mules, and raped her before riding off. When she’s burying her husband, another cowboy rides up and she almost shoots him before discovering he’s not a danger. He says he wants to help her. Does she dare trust him?

Ms. Bittner set this story in Wyoming when it was first becoming settled by ranchers. The line between bandits and ranch owners was fairly thin. Maggie’s rescuer is part Indian, has been a bandit in the past, is after the same three men that abused her because they killed one of his ranch hands and raped the man’s wife. This gives them a common cause. Maggie is going after those men herself and if Sage doesn’t take her along, she’ll go alone. He can see her determination and they become a team.

This story hit me right in the gut because Maggie gets impregnated by one of the rapists. This is one of my worst nightmares. I can’t imagine the horror of that realization. Even worse, she can’t tell Sage or he’ll leave her behind. There were several ways this situation could have been worked out, and I was surprised at the one the author chose.

The story line is accurate about the old west, Ms. Bittner’s characters are human and each has some baggage they need to work out, and while you might have expectations about the ending, you aren’t sure until the very end. There is tension, danger, anger, and love all combined in this story and the characters are compelling. I enjoyed it, why don’t you give it a try?

Carolyn Brown’s books never cease to entertain me. I know I’ll get a great read that flows and draws me in from page one. Cowboy Seeks Bride is no different. Once I started this book, I had to find out what happened next.

Opposites are said to attract and in this book that’s very true. But even the most opposite people have common ground. Neither Dewar or Haley are about to back down. Both are headstrong. But he’s a whole lot country and she’s very much a city girl. Ms Brown writes these characters so well, I felt like I was right there with them on the reenactment ride. I felt the dust, the heat of the sun and the sounds of the wilderness. Pretty cool.

Haley isn’t really country girl. She’s there because she’s getting out of her comfort zone. I rooted for her to find her HEA because well, if she could handle the ride, then she deserved the prize. I liked that she wasn’t perfect. She’s got her issues and was feisty, which made me want to see her succeed.

Dewar is a great kind of sexy. He’s strong, determined and has her best interests at heart, even when she drives him berserk. A great hero.

If you’re looking for a book that’s filled with moxie and has a hero who is drool-worthy, then you need to read Cowboy Seeks Bride.

Sophia looks at Bion as more of an annoyance than anything else at the beginning of the novel, while she too battles her attraction to the man.

They find themselves in bad situations repeatedly and have to not only fight their way out but each other as they try to claim dominance. It’s a fun little dance that this couple does while trying to find equal footing in dire circumstances. Bion wants to be the protector, very alpha and Sophia just wants to be his equal, not a damsel in distress. The only thing the couple agrees upon is the spark between them.

Despite this being the second book in the series and not having read the first, I wasn’t too terribly lost when I picked up this book. There were a few things I had to wonder about but eventually was able to catch up.  It might be better to read the first in the series just so that you are on even keel starting the second.

I enjoyed this book for its fun, sexy tale but I didn’t love it as I have other steampunk novels. I think it might have been from the lack of typical steam punk theme. Of course there were the airships and ideal but I wanted more. However Mary Wine did a great job with the subplot and secondary characters that will have me picking up the third book in the series once it’s released and going back to read the previous one.

How Far Out Are Your Fantasies? When Rebekah Blake becomes the Sinners’ new soundboard operator, she has no idea that red-hot drummer Eric Sticks is the only man who can give her everything her dirty mind desires…

Wicked Beat is one of Olivia Cunning’s Sinners On Tour books, and, as with the others in this series, it is filled with laughter, tears and some very seriously hot role-playing between the main characters.

Sinners: heavy metal’s ultimate band is on tour, and the men are slowly but surely finding their perfect partners. Brian and Myrna, Jace and Aggie, even Sed has reclaimed the love of his life, Jessica. Drummer Eric Sticks is more than a bit envious, wishing he could find what they have.

After the bus crash, as their soundboard man recovers from his injuries, he suggests a replacement: his sister, Rebekah, a fully trained sound specialist herself. When Eric sees her, he falls hard, but is disappointed when Rebekah only has eyes for Trey Mills. Eric has always been a voyeur, willing to observe when his band mates allow, but after meeting Rebekah, he wants more, and wants to gain control over his ‘minute man’ problems. As for Rebekah, she has some issues, and discovers after traveling with the band, that Eric is the perfect man for her; he’s honest, plain spoken and doesn’t play the kind of head games most men do. As these two grow closer, Rebekah is able to find herself, and realizes Eric may just be the one to give her back her life. But there are roadblocks to the happy ever after for Rebekah and Eric, as her mother is determined that Rebekah marry her old boyfriend Isaac, and goes to great lengths to keep Eric and her daughter apart. Can these two weather the storms and find smooth sailing for their future? Will the secrets all be revealed? Can Rebekah and Eric face the worst and accept whatever may be ahead?

I love this world that Ms. Cunning has built, and her characters are engaging and well developed, with many facets to uncover as you get to know them. My biggest guilty pleasure is heavy metal music, and the groups playing it, so this was a fun peek into a world I’ll never see any other way. I also like that Ms. Cunning shows a softer side to her rockers, making them real people, not just cardboard cutouts or one dimensional jerks. After reading this series, I can say this about Sinners: Brian and Trey may be the soul of Sinners with their marvelous guitars, Jace may provide a solid base, and Sed may be the voice of Sinners, but Eric Sticks is its ever beating heart.

Rebekah ‘Reb’ Blake is talented, smart and determined to wring everything she can out of life. After her battle with cancer, she has some serious issues with self worth and body image, and her ex certainly didn’t help by telling her she was unattractive to him. When not one but two of the Sinners come on to her, she starts to hope he was wrong. As she grows closer to Eric, he is able to bring out the spontaneous and wild woman that lives inside, and I loved watching as Rebekah blossomed though her relationship with Eric. I liked her strength, and her willingness to try it all, at least once. And I loved that she was able to figure out what Eric’s problems in the bedroom were and come up with unique and totally hot ways to help him.

Eric Sticks is talented, sexy and, beneath it all, very lonely. He wants what his friends have found, but is willing to settle for what he can have; vicarious pleasure through voyeurism, and the occasional touch when allowed. When Eric met Rebekah, it was instant attraction for him, and he felt they were meant for each other; she even had the same blue hair color as he did. When she seems to want Trey more, he hopes she will agree to at least let him watch them together. But, for the first time, Eric doesn’t really want to watch, and I loved watching as he let Rebekah see the side he keeps hidden; the sweet and sexy man behind the wild drummer of Sinners. I really enjoy watching these two together, wondering just what they would get up to next.

Wicked Beat is not all fun and joy. There is the tension when Rebekah’s mother loses it and tries to sabotage Eric and Rebekah’s relationship, and her ex, Isaac, does his share to derail them as well. There are several surprising secrets in this one, and as they are revealed, not everyone is happy with the outcomes. But there are some very touching moments, especially when Rebekah has to go to the doctor for a checkup and Eric pours his heart out to her. The roles these two play, in and out of the bedroom, are such fun to see, and each one is an adventure, as is the screaming hot sex these two manage to have in the most unusual places. There were some tears shed as I read, and many smiles and giggles too.

To get the true feel for this tour with Sinners, to see how it all rolled out, I recommend the following reading order for the series: Backstage Pass, Rock Hard, Hot Ticket, Wicked Beat, and finally Double Time.
