Neve’s story is another engaging tale in the Arcanium series. This story revolves around a young lady who never felt any want or need for sex and is given just the opposite from Bell, now sex is all Neve can think about and she is never satisfied. We are along for the ride as Neve tries to learn to control her needs. I really liked Neve she is a smart woman that is not afraid to stand up for herself. She takes what has been done to her and deals with it. Mikhail is a good man but has to do what he must to live and he tries hard to give Neve the space that she needs as she comes to terms with what has happened. I enjoyed seeing the other side of Mikhail and beginning to see what kind of man he truly is.

As Neve learns the ins and outs of the circus we also get to see more from the other inhabitants and their relationships. As Neve begins to settle in as much as one can into the circus readers get to see more of what is going on in it. Bell has his reasons for doing things the way he does but he is not sharing, and it is costing him much. We watch as time and time again Bell hurts people without realizing how much pain it costs and soon it may end up costing Bell. Once again it seems that there is another with powers like Bell that has taken an interest in the circus players and I am eager to see where the author will take this plot line in future books. This is only the beginning of Neve’s story and it does contain some explicit scenes, even one containing tentacles. If you are easily offended this is not a story for you but if you are like me and love a great story full of strong characters and on the risqué side this is one you will enjoy. The author has done a great job keeping this series fresh with each new cast member. Funhouse is a great addition to the Arcanium series

Each of the cultures of the different countries of the realm are extremely well done. The author’s skill in world-building brings me into the environment like I was there. Standing in the pastures of the horses, the cold and snowy beauty of the Mountain and the heat of the desert. Also, each country has a different culture, with their own values and greetings. Abby had been in most of the cultures during her studies, which made the gathering of an army and the objects easier then it could have been.

Abby does manage to shoulder the burdens placed against her will with aplomb most of the times. Her love for queen and country is a driving force for her.

I believe the trope is a bit overdone. There many books where a female character goes on a quest to save lives. If there had been a twist, I would have enjoyed the book more. The characters are well developed even though Abby does seem to go out of character at times. This has the unfortunate ability to bring me out of the story. I can see what the author is doing, trying to show Abby’s development from a child to a strong woman. Joshua is a wonderful character who balances her. He is a steadying influence and the author made a great choice by making him a healer. His personality is suited to it, as he doesn’t panic in emergencies.

The battle between good and evil was too quickly done. With all the lead up I would have thought the battle would have gone on longer. There were only a few pages of the battle and the end somewhat predictable. Although the after battle action was much better.

This was a light novel with periods of suspense and intriguing characters. The scenery is well done and Abby’s growth as a person and her relationship with Joshua is the main focus. I hope to read more about this world.

Various dangerous events end up with Val and Galia fleeing for their lives. I like the magic in this world, it’s different from the usual magic spells. Along the way they meet various different wielders of magic and Val learns a lot of new skills.

I enjoyed this book except for one thing. The flow of the book kept being interrupted by the use of the wrong words in many places. For example: “A titanic wolf-like beast stepped to the edge of the roof and lied beside the girl” – lied is the wrong word here. This type of error kept taking me out of the story.

Other than this the story is good and well worth the read.

As someone who dealt with many stubborn headaches when I was growing up, it was so cool to read a story about a character who had the same problem. This isn’t something that’s talked about much in children’s fiction, but I would have loved to read about it when I was a kid. This is a minor criticism, but it would have been helpful to have more descriptions in this story. The plot itself was a great deal of fun to read. What it was missing were more detailed descriptions of the characters and setting. I knew what the personalities of the characters were like and what it might feel like to visit the places they saw, but I wasn’t so clear on what they all physically looked like. If not for this, I would have easily gone for a five-star rating as everything else about it was quite well done.

One of my favorite things about this tale was how self-aware it was. There were a few times when certain characters made comments that let the reader know that these individuals knew they were in a fantasy setting and had some idea of what generally happens in those worlds. This is something I always enjoy reading about, so it was a real treat to realize that I’d stumbled across yet another book that managed to both remain true to its genre and poke gentle fun at itself at the same time.

I’d recommend The Magical Meniscus to anyone who enjoys fantasy that includes a slightly modern twist to it.

While the romance is strong in these, it’s beautifully woven into a story of quests for love, burning passion, painful loss, and alluring intimacy. The setting is easy to picture, and the characters aren’t soon forgotten.

When she hears her father having a secret meeting in the barn, she listens. There are sheep missing and the monsters are walking again. Maybe that’s why she’s dreaming about them. Her father is going to take three sheep with him and set a trap. A few men are going to go with him. When he leaves in the morning, she’s in the back of the wagon, hidden.

There’s a battle with the monsters that mimics her dream but she didn’t foresee her father and his friends being taken prisoner. How is she going to save him?

Ms. Ting writes a story that keeps your attention and makes you wonder how it’s going to end. She even introduces Jaclyn to her love before the tale is over.

The author has added a religious base to the source of the monsters that’s a bit unusual for a fairy tale but the way she did it made sense.

This was an enjoyable read even with the sad parts. This story will stick with you after you’ve finished the book. Ms. Ting has a good touch with fairy tales.

This flight is unusual in other ways, too. They find a stowaway, they learn of a smuggling plot, and things go downhill from there. The commander gets shot by his captain in the local bar so he’s not surprised when he finds he was part of the smuggling ring. But he’s not prepared to see who the other major player was.

As they try to survive the various attacks and get back on track, Lucky and the commander find themselves falling in love. This is a very nice touch that adds some heart to the story.

Not everyone survives but it ends on a positive note and it is great fun to read.

This was only a quick read, but there was plenty of detail in there – from the viciousness of Mr D, to the loneliness of the witch, to the fumbling feelings between our two MC’s. The pacing is smooth, and there were no plot holes to fall through. The descriptions are vivid enough that you can see what is going on, and who is doing what.

This was a great take on Hansel and Gretel, and I thoroughly enjoyed both the ending and the epilogue. Definitely worth a read, and absolutely recommended by me.

Hogan Duran, a former cop, is a character that I can easily see in the lead of many top action movies, and this whole book carried that feel. Fast-paced, action-packed, edge-of-you-seat, danger and trials to test the hero? Check. Check. And check! This book is self-contained, but ends in a way that leave room for more, and I’d gladly return if that is the case. While Hogan and Kill Code aren’t my normal read, this one is compelling and I found myself finishing it quickly, as I needed to know how things turned out, and what new surprises would arise!

It has that ‘book-to-movie’ feel and is eerily close, set in 2031, while also being different and ‘futuristic’ enough to excite and surprise the reader as the story unfolds.

Not every dream is necessarily going to be a cheerful one.

The world building was well done. Dreamland, the magical place Louie visited while he slept, was particularly nicely written. There were layers to it that weren’t revealed until quite late in the timeline. I enjoyed exploring what this place was like and seeing how the main character responded to it when he realized that his first impression of it wasn’t necessarily right.

I would have liked to see some more attention paid to the ending. The narrator described everything so quickly that I wasn’t entirely sure I understood how everything worked and why things turned out the way they did. This was especially true when it came to the main conflict that Louie was trying to solve. While I was satisfied with how it was all wrapped up, a more detailed explanation would have lead to this book getting a five star review from me.

A few different genres were mixed together in this story. I liked seeing how the author gently combined everything, especially when it came to the scenes that lead me to mark this as horror. With only about a hundred and sixty pages to work with, Mr. Clausen had to be creative with how he wove everything together. This is something that would work best for fans who like getting a little bit of everything in a plot instead of concentrating on one specific type of storytelling.

I’d recommend Dreamland: A Ghost Story to anyone who enjoys paranormal tales.
