When the exhausted winter wind throws a snowy tantrum, it finds comfort in the friendship of two young children in this lyrical retelling of a Yiddish folktale illustrated with stunning collage.

In this retelling of a Yiddish folktale, “Winter Wind worked hard all season long / blowing away leaves, / preparing trees for coats of snow and ice.” Now, Wind is tired and needs a place to rest. But no one wants to shelter so cold and blustery a Wind–not the townspeople, not the country innkeeper, not even the gnarled tree who is worried about frozen roots. Finally, Wind does what any of us do when we are overtired: Wind has a tantrum. And it is only with the help of two small children brave enough to weather the storm that Wind finally finds the perfect place to sleep. Gentle language coupled with intricate photo-illustrations of collage dioramas tell this sweet tale about empathy and friendship. The visuals in this book are striking for their vibrancy, palette, and movement.

Do you want to know where Winter Wind goes in the Spring?

Winter is over. The villagers are ready for Spring, and they want Winter Wind to move on. Wind is tired and ready to rest, but doesn’t know where to go. I was immediately drawn into the story, and I sympathized with Wind as he desperately searched for a place to rest. I could feel Wind’s exhaustion and frustration as he grew wearier by the minute. No one seems to be willing to help until Wind meets two children. Will they find a way to calm Winter Wind or will their village be blanketed by snow and ice indefinitely?

Ms. Marshall certainly created an intense character in Winter Wind! I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him as I read. He’s lonely, misunderstood, and feeling unwelcome. I think most children and adults alike can relate to Wind’s predicament at some point in their lives. Understandably, Wind lashes out, like a child throwing a temper tantrum, and causes problems for the village until two children care enough to talk to Wind rather than push him away. Sure enough, their compassion, and willingness to listen are exactly what Wind needed.

Ms. Marshall really made this story come alive through excellent use of descriptive language. Here are a couple of my favorite quotes that capture Wind’s increasingly volatile mood. “With long, cold fingers, Wind tapped windows of cozy homes.” Then later as things escalate, “Angry, Winter Wind blasted out across the fields, crying like a child, howling like a dog, wailing like a cat.” I must also add that Ms. Doliveux’s paper collage illustrations are exceptional! The illustrations perfectly complement the text, and are so beautiful and striking that I almost expected them to move as I read!

I’m so glad I took the time to read Good Night Wind. It is a sweet tale of kindness, empathy, and friendship. I highly recommend this folktale to readers young and old!

He decides to help her with her outlandish plan, but neither of them expects that the physical connection between them will lead to so much more.

What would you do if you were engaged to an alien that you didn’t know anything about, except for the fact that their women have to be a virgin. This is what happened to Angelina Astoferus. She was desperate to get away from her scheming uncle and avoid a marriage that she does not want She refuses to be a pawn for her uncle, especially since she has proof that he is going to double cross her fiancee’s people.

Amos Marks is the engineer for the Abigail. The ship is owned by himself and his brothers: Flynn, Kal, and Garth. She is a trading ship but they also do some mercenary work, although they do their research to make certain that the person deserves to be taken out.

This is a very sweet novel with wonderful love scenes. The tenderness made me melt but there is also quite a bit of lust involved to. Angelina is a strong character with a past that would have broken most people. She took her destiny in her own hands, stowing away on a random ship to get away from her controlling uncle. Her entire existence had been forced to live in a cage, a very luxuries cage but a cage nonetheless.

Her determination to lose her virginity to any man shows her desperation to live her own life. She figured that once she lost her virginity she could get dropped off on a planet and figure out where she should go and what she should do.

Abel is a strong man with a family of tough brothers who love and cherish their younger sister. There is nothing they wouldn’t do to find out where their sister is or any information as to where she could be. That was the plan until he meets Angelina. It was funny seeing his reaction when this beautiful woman throws herself at him.

Their connection is immediate and strong. He admires her beauty but is wowed by her strength of character. Abel’s protective manner seems to be a behavior of all his brothers. Once they learned how dep his feelings went, they welcome her as part of the family the close ranks around her and were ready to do anything they could to keep her safe. Angelina is also powerful enough to help the brothers find their sister. She wants to help her new family heal.

I would have liked to see the relationship develop a little slower. Also, the talk of their sister seems to be a background plot even though it seems like it should be the major plot.

A wonderful novel full of great characters developing into one unit whose love has changed them for the better. Each character adds to the plot and character development. If you like a short, sweet novel with strong characters this is the book for you.

Magic. Sailing. A murderer among heroes.

Gravedigger Volke Savan wants nothing more than to be like his hero, the legendary magical swashbuckler, Gregory Ruma. First he needs to become an arcanist, someone capable of wielding magic, which requires bonding with a mythical creature. And he’ll take anything—a pegasus, a griffin, a ravenous hydra—maybe even a leviathan, like Ruma.

He’s already killed a population of phoenixes and he intends to kill even more.

In order to protect his home, his adopted sister, and the girl he admires from afar, Volke will need to confront his hero, the Master Arcanist Gregory Ruma.

A fast-paced flintlock fantasy for those who enjoy How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell, Unsouled (Cradle Series) by Will Wight, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan.

I stayed up way too late two nights in a row reading this book because it drew me into this world, and I didn’t want to have to leave it for anything as mundane as sleep (despite having an early morning wake up call!) The story is told from Volke’s point of view, and it was interesting to see just how badly he wanted to get out of the situation he was in and what he would do to reach his goal. I’m left wondering if the other books in the series, the other kids we get to know will get their own chance to shine.

We follow Volke, three other teens from his island home, as well as two other kids who join the same guild as apprentices after having been bonded to magical creatures – a wide variety of eldrin are described quite well – not only those of the apprentices but also the masters. Each character, human and mythical, have their own unique personality – great job on that!

The story grabbed me at the first page and kept me enthralled as I followed Volke on his quest, through heartbreak as his first plan didn’t pan out, then the excitement of discovering Plan B. There was plenty of action, but more than that, there was a great deal of character development. I am a sucker for character-driven fiction and, with Ms. Stovall’s first book in her new series, you have that in spades. I loved the characters in this book and am really looking forward to following them on their missions as part of the Frith Guild.

This method involves immersing the feet in free viagra tablet salt water for some time in an apparatus that supposedly emits positive and negative ions to balance unstable charges in the body and create a cleansing and detoxifying effect. The supporting characters are well-drawn. Stephanie, Harley’s love, and Darren, his best friend, are integral to the plot. Harley’s hippy astral friend, Willy, is both wise and funny.

Harley watches as a demon, Horace, takes over his body and does strange and alarming things. He could lose his body forever and be stuck on the astral plane, so there’s a ticking clock.

There are gross moments and funny moments, many unexpected events throughout this wild ride. The suspense increases when there’s talk of a prophesy. Some evil-doers intend on doing major damage, and only Harley even remotely knows how to stop them, but he is not equipped to do so. He must use ingenuity and shows sensitivity when dealing with other characters who can help. The mystical aspects of the book are done creatively and are entertaining as well as thought-provoking. The astral plane is easy to visualize due to the author’s plain-speaking and vivid use of language. The descriptions of that world are detailed. Some of the dialogue could inspire one to crack a smile. In the end, Harley has a unique problem and will need some fancy, unusual maneuvering to save his friends and himself. I have to admit, there’s no sex in the book, but there are graphic details of a man doing self-gratification, solo intimacy. So be warned.

This is a real page turner, but the events at the end of the story have me sincerely hoping there is a sequel coming out for this book. It’s a supernatural adventure and quite enjoyable.

The attraction between Marc and Ava has been bubbling between them since Marc first entered the place where Ava worked. Once he gets involved in her world, that attraction is on fire! They only have a couple of steamy moments before the story takes over, but there is a constant pull between them.

Ava’s brothers are the rest of the series (I’m presuming for reasons given in the story), and they are each different from the others, and interesting in their own ways.

There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading, and the pace was smooth. You are definitely left with more questions than answers, needing the next book in the series.

For a quick-witted story with twists and turns of the paranormal sort, then I can definitely recommend this book.

Chronicles of the Enlai

Taking place in the near future, this thrilling sci-fi/fantasy series tells the tale of a secret, formidable race of super-powered beings fighting for the fate of the planet. The action-packed adventure will take you soaring through the skies on genetically engineered dinosaurs, charging the mountaintops with an army of sword-wielding Shadows, and sailing through perilous waters infested with zombies and super-powered pirates. So what are you waiting for? Come join the fight, the world is at stake!

Prepare to look at the world in a whole new way!

Raiden lives a normal life working as a teacher, and he certainly cares for his students. However, at night he has vivid dreams of beings with extraordinary powers. Raiden dismisses the dreams as nothing more than an over active imagination. In reality, his dreams are glimpses into the secret world of the Enlai. Raiden soon discovers that not only are the Enlai real, but they are in the middle of a war and one of his students, Sarah, might be the key to the outcome. Forced from the life he knew, Raiden joins The Resistance in hopes of saving Sarah and all of humanity from the sinister Following. I was intrigued from the moment I started reading, and I couldn’t wait to learn more about the Enlai! However, I must mention that this book contains a lot of graphic fighting and large-scale battle sequences. Readers sensitive to violence have been forewarned.

Mr. Michael chose to tell this story from multiple viewpoints, and I think that format worked very well. I enjoyed seeing the tale unfold from the perspectives of various characters. While I liked Raiden, I especially enjoyed the sections told from Yuran’s point of view. Yuran is chief of the Shadows, and he is not what I expected. He’s known more than his share of sorrow and injustice in the past, but he has not let his anger define him. He’s grown into an excellent leader, and I look forward to reading more about him in the next installment of the series.

This plot is also very well paced. The intense action is balanced by some slower sections and exposition necessary to enlighten the reader concerning the various tribes of Enlai and how they have impacted human history. I will say the intensity of this fantasy goes up a notch toward the conclusion. As I read, I was plunged from one battle into another with just a bit of rest in between. It was a bit overwhelming at times!

I found the world Mr. Michael has created fascinating. I really liked learning about the different tribes and their abilities, and would love to learn more. I have so many questions bouncing around in my mind! For example, what would happen if Enlai from different tribes married and had children? What abilities would their children inherit? Abilities from both tribes, or just one? Or would their children be something completely different?

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read The Nexus Mirror. I can’t wait to learn more about the Enlai, and I will definitely be looking for the next book in this series!

There are some parts of history that can only be rediscovered by visiting the past for yourself.

The descriptions of Powhatan culture were fascinating. I appreciated the fact that Mr. Black went into so much detail about what life in this tribe was like for people of all ages. It made it easy for me to picture what an average day for them involved and why they were so confused and irritated by some of the decisions the European characters made.

This tale never really had a clear narrator. There were a few difference characters that kept popping up regularly, but the plot moved among them without ever making it clear to the audience which perspective or perspectives we should be giving the most attention to. My preference would have been for Pocahontas to take on this role, but any main character would have done nicely as long as it was clear who was in charge of keeping the storyline moving forward.

One of the things I appreciated the most about the plot was how careful the characters were to avoid changing the past. This is always a temptation with time travel, but it’s terribly risky. I liked the fact that the characters were aware of that risk and did everything they could to let history unfold the way it had in our timeline regardless of how much they wished they could change certain things.

This is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone work.

Jamestowne should be read by adult and young adult history buffs alike.

Discussion of a Decent Dream is a Finalist in Britain’s Wishing Self Book Awards in the Adult category.

This is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve read in a long time. The words and phrases were so lyrical it was almost like reading poetry. It is not a book to be hurried through. It is, instead, a book to take your time with, to savor, perhaps even to reread in order to fully grasp all the richness that fills it.

The basic story is told in two parts– one point of view is Edmond’s, while he searches for Alexandra. And on the other hand, we have Vigil who is overlooking the action and recording it. The book is told on many levels and in many times, with these times sometimes colliding with each other. There are symbols and images I felt I was just on the edge of grasping, and that did occasionally frustrate me. However I feel as if it was my issue more than the book’s.

I’m looking forward to delving back into this book and try to fully understand all the nuances. Kudos!

One of the first things that attracted me to the blurb was the references to the characters having ancestry from a wide variety of different types of creatures. I truly enjoyed seeing what the author thought someone would be like if, for example, they were part zombie, fairy, and robot. There was so much creativity woven in these moments that they made me curious to see what Ms. Rose will come up with next. I’d definitely like to see more of her ideas in the future.

With that being said, the cast of characters for this story was so huge I had a lot of trouble remembering who everyone was. There were something like fifteen different individuals featured in the plot. At less than seventy pages, there simply wasn’t enough room for all of them to get a fair chance to shine in the storyline or for the audience to get to know who they were. This would have worked much better as either a full-length novel or a series of short stories that focused on a few characters at a time in my opinion.

The world building was well done. Zadi and the other misfit monsters lived in a society that relied on human trash to survive but that also wanted as little to do with humans as possible. These sometimes contradictory rules lead to all sorts of interesting developments in how they spent their time. I can’t go into a great deal of detail about this without giving away spoilers, but I did enjoy the vivid imagery of what her culture looked like.

I’d recommend The Jumble Sale to anyone who enjoys creative science fiction.
