Learning about Angel and Dwayne’s past gives Eric a good look into his own truth, and he’s not so sure he likes what he sees, but is it too late to change? More important, is it too late to convince Dwayne he was wrong?

You know a man is irresistible when just looking at him makes your ass twitch. Such is Eric’s dilemma. He has a lust crush on Dwayne, his best friend’s cousin but isn’t sure that Dwayne’s flirting really means anything. When the two are finally thrown together and take advantage of the obvious chemistry Eric is forced to deal with some real issues. Dwayne may just the one man Eric can’t run away from.

Permanent Ink offers two complex men that shouldn’t be together but fit anyway. Eric is a minor character from another Samms’ novel and it’s nice to see him get a happy ending. He’s never had a long term relationship and tends to get restless and bored easily. This is perhaps the biggest problem with the story. It’s too short. Everything happens way too fast, way too soon and loses some of its impact. The scene with Eric’s brother should be more important but instead it feels like a heavy manipulation to allow Eric to go in a certain direction. Also there isn’t really much tension to the story either. Due to Eric’s past most of the secondary characters are worried Eric’s going to hurt Dwayne but he says early on he won’t and that’s the end of it.

The writing gives as much credibility as it can but ultimately the short space just takes away most of the enjoyment and satisfaction with the speed of the relationship and resolution. It’s still worth reading, however. The short story has a really good idea with an opposite attract theme and interracial couple, which there aren’t enough of in gay erotic romance.

Catching An Evil Tail is written in first person, from Jessie’s point-of-view. Despite this, the author does a fairly good job in giving us enough detail to get a feel for the other characters as well. The plot flowed well enough to keep me interested, but there could have been a little more excitement. There were times when I felt pertinent scenes were rushed over and less important ones dragged out. Some editing errors caught my attention, mostly missing words, but they weren’t overly distracting.

My biggest beef with the story was with the main character herself, Jessie. I liked her as a person, but her back and forth moods about her boyfriend made her sound too wishy-washy. She supposedly loved Drake with all her heart, yet allowed herself to be kissed and fondled by two other men during Drake’s absence. One minute she despises Jeremy—and lets him know it—the next she’s allowing him to kiss her. No wonder the guy won’t give up. Taking into account she’s half-demon, you do have to make allowances for her sexual nature. The fact that her boyfriend has been gone far longer than he’d promised, and he’s sketchy at best as to why he’s delayed in coming home, I can see where she begins to get confused and distrustful.

Over all though, I enjoyed Catching An Evil Tail. There were a few lingering loose ends, but the main dilemmas were addressed. The ending definitely leaves it open for another story. I hope Ms. Abshire has something in the works. I’d like to see a little more of these characters in future tales.

This story had it all mystery, drama, sex and love. A good combination for a short story you can read over your lunch break.

One can always skim those parts, though, because the novel covers a lot of ground, in terms of miles, years, and character growth (especially that of Jean-Yves), and is definitely satisfying. Don’t be thrown by the title or the reference to hustlers; while a few gay male prostitutes do show up in the story, they aren’t a big part of it.

Overall, P’tit Cadeau is an enjoyable, insightful novel that transports the reader easily and is the next best thing to a private romantic European artists’ retreat.

There were some really nice sensual scenes in the book that had me reaching for a fan. One that was very well written is fairly early in the story where Raphael is talking dirty to Anna to help her pass a “test”. You’ll just have to read the book to understand the importance of this test.

I did have a few issues with the book. Some are probably more preference issues than real problems but it was enough that it took away a little of my enjoyment of the unique storyline. The one that kept plaguing me mostly involved the name of one of the men, Raphael. Actually, I loved his name in the beginning but then it gets shortened to Ralph for the rest of the book. I think, maybe, Ms. Lee meant for the reader to pronounce it like Raph but because Ralph is a more common name I kept imagining the character from The Honeymooners rather than the gorgeous half-human he and his triplet brothers actually are.

Ms. Lee is a very vivid storyteller. Her writing style is easy to read and she goes the extra mile to paint detailed pictures of the sites and sounds that surround the characters. When Anna and Justin visit Japan on a business trip and when she joins Raphael in St. Croix I felt like I was actually traveling with them.

If you are looking for a quick read with enough hot sheet action to singe your e-reader, pick up a copy of Corporate Plaything. Ms. Lee has a tantalizing voice for both ménage relationships and the paranormal. She combines both in this little novella for a truly unique story.

There’s more than one piece of awkward dialogue here, which took away from the story’s development.

I do recommend beginning at the first book if you’re inclined to pick up this series, and for the love making scenes alone, it’s worth it.

However, I did feel that there wasn’t enough character motivation for Ivan to immediately want to mate with Mick, other than the fact that they were “destined” to be together. I also questioned some of the external conflict that occured later in the story. Ivan must face down an old foe, a dangerous gang of humans/non-vampires, but it’s not entirely clear why the gang has any power over the vampires, since the vampires have strength and mental abilities that far outweigh the thugs.

Beyond these few plot and character issues, I found When Blood Beckons to be a satisfying story, especially if you’re a lover of all things paranormal. Read and enjoy!

The author does a top notch job of making Raith come across that way. Sometimes you’re not sure about him, other times, especially when you’re in his POV; you begin to think he has feelings for Alexandra other than wanting her for just sex.

As the story unfolds you can tell that Alexandra is going to give in to curiosity and enter a relationship with Raith who she knows enjoys BDSM. The question is will she like it too? Although this story touches upon BDSM all the scenes are written in a very sensual way. I kept wondering if these two people would end up together as Raith sometimes came across as slightly self-serving. And as I liked Alexandra’s character, a couple of times I thought maybe she deserved better. However, as the story moved toward its conclusion, I felt more comfortable about Alexandra’s choice. It seemed Raith’s motives and heart was in the right place.

If you’re looking to read your first BDSM romance story this is probably a good pick and it’s a fast read too.

Jase has problems of his own: his troubled ex-wife has allowed him full custody of their daughter on one condition: he never exposes her to his affairs with other men. The arrangement works just fine until he starts falling for Lowell and a whole new world of possibilities opens up for him. But how can he have a relationship with a man and still keep his daughter?

A childhood fantasy can’t be the love of your life, can he? That’s what Lowell thought when he moved back to his hometown to take care of his ailing mother. Lowell’s childhood friend Jase just happens to be his next door neighbor. But life has certainly changed for both men as Jase is now divorced with a young daughter. As the two men reconnect, Lowell and Jase face a lot of obstacles that test their newfound friendship and romance.

The Boy Next Door is a sweet romance with the familiar and well loved theme of friends turned lovers. The two main characters are normal guys dealing with the every day struggles of life, jobs, economy, and a relationship in a small town. Lowell and Jase have a lot of conflict that draws out the story. There is the issue of Jase’s ex-wife and custody of his child which plays a huge role in the novel. Then there is Lowell’s openness about his sexuality while Jase prefers to stay closeted. These problems and more contribute to the tension about whether the two men can actually weather the issues and come out together. While the story is by turns romantic and lovely, it also tends to drag. There is some information and additional scenes that don’t seem to add much to the story. Jase’s best friend, a nearby bar owner, is also gay but I’m not sure how his romantic problems play into the story. If anything this distracts from the main couple. Additionally Jase and Lowell have a rocky relationship with a lot of fighting. Jase is especially fearful and often lashes out at Lowell because of this. Lowell is pretty understanding but ultimately I wasn’t entirely sure that these two really fell in love and lasted.

The characters are three dimensional and come across as authentic. Their problems feel genuine and you can empathize with their issues. There are no clear cut evil villains and the story creates good tension with a definite happy ending. While this didn’t always work so well for me I think some readers will enjoy the real feel to the story. Everyday men with problems and issues that aren’t fantasies but find a way to true love. If this sounds like your type of book, give it a chance.
