Davy Larson is a devastated man. He finds his father murdered and his father’s land in the hands of a man who happens to be the father of Abigail O’Sullivan. Davy wants answers, so to get them he decides to make a trade; he’ll return Mr. O’Sullivan’s daughter, Abigail, if he gets the answers that he seeks. But as with all good stories, the plot thickens when the kidnapper and kidnap-ee discover they still have feelings for one another.

Captive Bride is a engaging little novella. Ms. Hampton did a beautiful describing the time period and drawing this reader into the setting. While I would have liked to have had a chance to actually see the budding romance there was enough detail sprinkled in to let me know imagine how it might have happened. I also felt that the story was a bit predictable as there were no surprises but I did enjoy the fact that the romance was detailed. It felt like a western as the tension between the “pioneer settlers” and “Native Americans” was present. There’s also a bit of mystery to be solved. Davy has a vested interest in finding out who killed his father and why. Besides the romance, I was interested to see Ms. Hampton would work out the questions Davy had and how he and Abigail would find their HEA.

This is the first story that I have read of Sandi Hampton’s and I can see that she has an abundance of promise in her future if she continues her romance writing! I am looking forward to reading another story from this writer soon.

This was a pleasant read and I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys a sweet romance with just enough heat to make it a little spicy. Readers who enjoy the idea of being stolen away should check this out. I was held captive by this tale of lovers reunited.

He’s devastatingly attractive and pits one woman against the other, vying for his love; but he has dark motives.

Rodrigo is a greatvillain. He’s well developed, as are the two elderly women, Taki and Koyam, descendants of Incas who have lived there all their lives. Taki and Koyam are interesting, and mostly through them the reader is treated to cultural and history lessons of the area. Rodrigo’s helpers are sad characters, and one can’t help but to feel a little sympathy for them, especially the cook, who is just trying to support his family. The American women are presented as selfish, spoiled, and unlikeable. Later on in the novel, they sometimes show a little character growth. Some of their behavior becomes surprising. What will they do next?

Suspense drives the plot, making the story a fast-paced one. Can two old women help four strangers against an evil man with terrible plans in such an isolated area? Anything can happen. Mystical elements add a bit of unpredictability to things.

The setting is beautifully written. Reading about the beauty of the local area adds much to the story. For a novel that’s a change of pace, offering much adventure, this is a good one to check out.

Carolyn Brown’s books never cease to entertain me. I know I’ll get a great read that flows and draws me in from page one. Cowboy Seeks Bride is no different. Once I started this book, I had to find out what happened next.

Opposites are said to attract and in this book that’s very true. But even the most opposite people have common ground. Neither Dewar or Haley are about to back down. Both are headstrong. But he’s a whole lot country and she’s very much a city girl. Ms Brown writes these characters so well, I felt like I was right there with them on the reenactment ride. I felt the dust, the heat of the sun and the sounds of the wilderness. Pretty cool.

Haley isn’t really country girl. She’s there because she’s getting out of her comfort zone. I rooted for her to find her HEA because well, if she could handle the ride, then she deserved the prize. I liked that she wasn’t perfect. She’s got her issues and was feisty, which made me want to see her succeed.

Dewar is a great kind of sexy. He’s strong, determined and has her best interests at heart, even when she drives him berserk. A great hero.

And it’s working: She’s dangerously close to falling head over boot heels for the rugged rodeo star with hair the color of moonshine.

Beau came to the big city to escape his past and live life to the fullest. Yet the leggy blonde with eyes as blue as a western sky causes a real hitch in his giddy-up. Written with the same witty humor as the other novels within the Deep in the Heart of Texas setting, this one lacked the normal three dimensional characterization that I’ve come to know in Ms. Lane’s novels. It still had a lot of fun and humor, but the characters fell just a bit flat for me. The conflicts didn’t feel as strong, and at times, I also found myself skimming some of the pages. I enjoyed the story, loved the attraction between Jenna and Beau, but had hoped for a little more depth to them.

Still, the overall story had my emotions all over the place. I laughed, I got mad, I wanted to tear up a few times, and that’s what kept me rooting for everyone to their HEA. If you enjoy a fun contemporary romance about finding your place back home, why not do a little flirting with Texas of your own and snag a copy of this book?

A man with his own demons, Owen Crawford, the reclusive Earl of McDowell, is enchanted by the mysterious, courageous woman he rescued. He will help her heal, teach her to protect herself, and then send her away—so that she’ll never see he’s far from the hero she believes him to be.

But days and nights alone prove that some secrets are meant to be discovered…some desires are too powerful to resist…and some wounds can only be healed by love.

From the moment Owen Crawford finds Annalise Hadley washed up on shore and reluctantly saves her, he’s determined to get her well and on her way so he can face his own demons alone. Seeing the way Owen keeps trying to find someone else to save her, endeared him to me all the more. He’s a hero who doesn’t think he deserves to be a hero.

Annalise isn’t ready to trust easily after her husband of only hours threw her overboard to rid himself of his wife so he could keep her dowry. There is something about Owen though that calls to her to trust him. He isn’t sure he’s the hero type and she sees him as an honorable, attractive and sweet man, even if he doesn’t talk much and keeps avoiding her.

There were many supporting characters that made this story work, without the healers to help Annalise and convincing Owen into staying to help, this wouldn’t have been the story it is. This is a story of two broken people finding each other fighting their demons together all while falling in love. I loved this story and will gladly read other stories by this author in the future.

For Sean carries a secret that binds him to an enemy from the past and to a darker, deadlier force-a malignant evil that is hunting the women of Whidbey Island . . .

Running has seemed to become a regular part of Elin and Sean’s life. Both of them have been running from a past that they cannot change. What they can change is their future, but first they have to realize that they are stronger when standing together.

The beginning of this story seemed a bit overwhelming to me. I had not read the previous story, therefore, I had a bit of a learning curve I needed to overcome. Once I became familiar with the characters and the storyline I was able to follow along and even become enthralled in the storyline and characters.

Elin’s past is something that captured my attention almost immediately. I enjoyed being able to discover more about the heroine at the same time she learns about herself. It made me feel as if I was part of the story. Elin also had a spit fire personality that had me smiling at times, because I just never knew what she was going to do next. She certainly was able to keep me and Sean on our toes as well as some of the supporting characters within the story.

Sean’s character was definitely all alpha male wanting to protect those he cares about. I liked that while this characteristic was a driving force behind his actions, it also at times proved to be his Achilles heel. This was especially true when it came to getting help from others, especially Elin. His willingness to do whatever necessary to protect her was endearing, yet it was clear that it sometimes got in the way of what needed to be done. Especially when Elin refused to be a weakling who cowers in the corner.

The story line in this book was extremely dynamic, since it featured a variety of plot conflicts. Both Elin and Sean had individual conflicts they needed to resolve as well as the main conflict from the evil that threatened them and their friends. This mystery antagonist helped to enhance the story line as well as allowed me to meet some other interesting characters such as Sally, Leigh and Niles.

This novel incorporated everything that I look for an a paranormal story with its variety of creatures, from vampires, fae and shifters, to a budding romantic interest and a diabolical antagonist (or two). I truly enjoyed the world the author created, and would love to read about more characters in the Chimney Rock series.

Filled with regret over his rocky past, Reece Morgan has no desire to go home after ten years away. But when Billie Bradshaw becomes the target of killers, he returns to defend her with a vengeance born of salvation. He charges to the rescue, only to realize she’s the bait to tempt him into the open.

Billie has a choice to make. She can risk violent death, or allow the man she considers her worst nightmare–the man she’s already loved and lost, the man who fell off the grid a long time ago, taking her heart along for the ride–to keep her safe. What could be worse? Maybe the fact he’s unknowingly brought death to her door.

As Billie and Reece follow the twisted trail of a psychotic mind, their reignited passion takes a front row seat in their struggle to stay alive.

With military men, cowboys, feisty heroines and dogs, I was in heaven with this book. The men are hot, the dogs adorable (even though they’re trained to be able to kill someone), and the leading lady is someone I’d want to be friends with. A win-win on all fronts! And since I just found out it’s a series, you can bet I’ll be looking up the others, and marking down the author on my watch list.

Billie is a country girl, through and through. She can barrel race in a rodeo, take care of her horses, and isn’t afraid to get dirty and facing down a killer bull barely makes her bat an eyelash. Well, okay, it might make her hesitate for a half a second, but when someone is threatened she’ll face him down anyway. She is loyal to the bone, will defend her friends and family with her last breath and isn’t about to let any bad guys keep her from doing what she’s got to do.

Reece is sexy as all get out. He’s cowboy mixed with military mixed with badass and if he doesn’t make you break into a sweat, you might want to check your pulse. After being gone for ten years, he doesn’t hesitate to come running when Billie needs him.

These two were each other’s first loves and even though circumstances (and a protective daddy) forced them apart long ago, seeing each other again rekindles everything for both of them. With trouble riding hard on their heels though, they have to prioritize and bullets and death tends to win over romance. They do get a few stolen moments and boy are those moments hot, hot, hot! Add in Reece’s military buddies and this book gets even more fun and interesting (and a few degrees hotter).

I love the dogs that make an appearance. Especially that one of them is a Shiloh Shepherd, a breed that I only recently learned about and would love to one day have. The rodeo being held at the ranch was really interesting to read about to see the behind the scenes of a working rodeo. And I never saw the twist at the end coming, which is rare for me to say!

I really have nothing bad to say about this book. It was one that I couldn’t put down, from start to finish, and thoroughly enjoyed it. This will for sure be going on my keeper shelf and I can’t wait to check out the rest of the sexy crew and their ladies.

Andrew Weston and Jill Walsh had to be the two most unlikely people to fall in love. After Andrew’s first love betrayed him in the most brutal way possible, he knew he might fall in love again someday, but there was no way he’d ever make himself vulnerable again by confessing those feelings if he did.

He stays with her forever or he loses everything he owns. The millions he’s worked for, his property, his cars, everything. Now he just needs to hope that’s enough to hold onto Jill forever.

With a hero to die for and just a touch of suspense, Penalty Clause is a good addition to any romance reader’s library.

I can understand Jill’s reluctance to trust again after her husband’s adultery. And Andrew … no wonder he never spoke to his parents again! I can’t even imagine that kind of betrayal. Still, with the background between these two, I admit I found it somewhat difficult they couldn’t overcome their doubts and fears. They were friends first, after all.

I really did love Andrew… what a yummy hero! He was so sweet and thoughtful and sexy enough to take your breath away. I envied Jill from the start. The things he did for her up to and including the penalty clause surely should have proved where his heart was, but he just could not say those all important words.

Ms. Ryan has done a wonderful job creating three dimensional characters in a well-plotted book. I understand this is book two in a series, and while it was clear there was a story I’d missed, since we met some newly marrieds, I never had trouble following anything in this book. When characters are this strong and clear, I’ll keep reading even when the plot has blips. And I especially loved Andrew’s grandmother — what a hoot!

The author is exceptionally talented and the book editing was tight and clean. I enjoyed Penalty Clause even when I wanted to take Jill and Andrew and smack them upside their heads.  Really what that means is that I was completely invested in them and their HEA!  The plot was interesting (and had a surprising twist), the characters fabulous and the sex hot. I’m fully planning to go back and gobble up book one!

Everyone says Nicole is a survivor, but she doesn’t feel like one. The jagged scar across her chest is a bitter reminder of the disease she overcame, and the life she lost because of it. Now, on six months into remission, she’s spending a week at a secluded resort for a family wedding. Nicole has to put her anger aside and fool her family into thinking everything is fine.

Jake has his own scars. After he is left marred by a deadly fire that killed his fiancé, he now lives a recluse life as the handyman at Eden’s Escape. Jake only wants to keep being invisible but from the minute Nicole gets to the resort, he has to save the reckless woman from herself and the risk that she carelessly seeks out.

Nicole wants to spend the week living without regrets and is determined to feel something besides the anger that has consumed her through a brutal battle she never wanted to survive. She can’t deny the attraction to the man with a dark past. Together, Jake and Nicole discover that hiding scars is easier than healing them.

I was greatly intrigued by the set-up of this story. While Jake is the one externally scarred, Nicole also has plenty of emotional and inner scars herself. Having survived cancer (or being in remission, she admits one never “survives” cancer) and trying her best to convince everyone around her – her family in particular – that everything is fine and dandy, she’s a complex woman with a number of problems on her plate. I also found myself drawn into Jake’s dark, broody nature. While from the outset it’s clear he’s survived a nasty fire that killed a woman special to him, it’s also just as crystal clear there’s far more to that story than the mere “coward” tag the rest of the town seems to have branded him with.

Almost immediately I wanted to dig deeper into the mystery and find out what was beneath both their surfaces. Initially I was frustrated because Nicole was so submerged in her own issues it didn’t even cross her mind to open her eyes and discover the story behind Jake. One can’t blame her, with family to placate and a wedding to attend, as well as being set up with various cousins of cousins, Nicole does have a lot going on. I found Jake far and away the most interesting character – aside from Nicole herself – and I was glad when they started spending time together. As Nicole and Jake got to know each other better both of their complex personalities shine and their compatibility becomes both more understandable and clear.

This wasn’t an average romance story. The opening few chapters were filled with tension and had a multi-layered mystery feel of “it was a dark and stormy night”. Both Jake and Nicole – initially at least – are abrasive, intriguing characters. Neither are from the classic, “traditional” hero or heroine mold. While the strength (and sometimes rough temperament) of these two won’t suit everyone, I really enjoyed how the author presented both Nicole and Jake and made me want to know more about them. The clever writing and subtle clues led me to believe there was so much more happening than a first glance would show kept me turning the pages.

Much of the mystery initially presented became background noise as Nicole and Jake got to know each other in the middle of the book, but the author does subtly drop hints and teases of why Jake’s hung around, what really happened the night he got his scars and how Jake and Nicole could well be the perfect tonic for each other. I found this to be a complex and intriguing romantic mystery novel. The characters are well drawn and while the mystery lags a little in the middle, I found overall the pace moved swiftly and kept me interested. Recommended.

Then there was Donny Joe. Talk about a yummy man. Okay, so he’s a bad boy. He’s also not exactly how I pictured him. He’s very three dimensionally written. I liked his struggles as well. Like her? Hate her? Let her into his life? Who knows? It makes for good reading. I felt like I was right there with them.

If you want a book that’s delightful, fun and full of romance, then this might be the book for you.
