When circumstances create a reason, a need, to cross that line it becomes painfully obvious that they can never go back to just being friends. The journey to that elusive HEA that these men take, along with the third member of this triad, Destiny, isn’t easy or without doubt and heartache. There isn’t a whole lot of spoken dialogue in this novel but it works for this story. Ms. Wayland gives us a lot of internal dialogue that shows the conflict Patrick, Brandon and Destiny each deal with. It’s different for each character. Patrick never knew he was “in the closet” much less how to deal with the consequences when his department begins to suspect his involvement with Brandon AND Destiny. Brandon has always known he was gay and had secret feelings for Patrick but would never have acted on those feelings. Destiny has been in love with and dated Patrick off and on for many years. As I said, emotions and tension runs deep in this book. So does the incredibly HOT sheet action but the author says it best… it’s “Not just sex. Tenderness”. I appreciated how Ms. Wayland painted Patrick as the dominant in the bedroom but she doesn’t let him get away with always being on top. With love and tenderness, Brandon teaches Patrick it’s okay to let someone else be in control…sometimes.

The plot is multilayered and at one point I felt like that Ms. Wayland had thrown in a side story regarding the local mob that was unnecessary to the overall story. I couldn’t have been more wrong. While the mob isn’t the main plot it served a greater purpose of making Patrick more aware of himself and his feelings for Brandon. Ms. Wayland delivers an incredibly heart wrenching story that is so realistic at its core it’s hard to open a paper or turn on the news and not see a story that relates.

There is so much I would like to say about this book but it would give away too much of this story and it really needs to be read to be appreciated. If you love intensity in and out of the bedroom and thick throughout the book, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Destiny Calls. This was the first book by Ms. Wayland that I’ve read but it certainly won’t be the last.

They have created a community of friends who understand and accept each other but most importantly are loyal and supportive of each other.

As in all the books, the sex is aggressive, frequent and encompasses all possibilities of circumstances, combinations and throwing the dictated rules of the society out the window for all the hear.

I must admit, that even though this is an excellent story with the most amazing characters, it is not my favorite of the series. If you read the first seven books you will most definitely find your own favorites. Very’s character had been a source of amusement and entertainment since her arrival and continues to remain constant. Even if you haven’t read the first books, this story stands by itself with great strength. Be open minded and enjoy a somewhat different journey in Regency England. I bet you won’t regret it.

The conflict is believable and tightly interwoven with the developing sexual and romantic relationship. Charles and Sarah are both so very open hearted and unselfish in their coming together to reach out to Gideon.

The sex scenes are hot and filled with emotional depth from the beginning, even though the two men do not know the heroine well. Ms. Kane handles the wedding night perfectly. On that night, it’s easy to believe Sarah is a woman of her times; shy, unknowing, yet her natural sensuality makes her curious and willing to experiment.

Later it’s a little harder to mesh Sarah’s blasé acceptance of the heroes’ homosexual relationship with her being a Regency bride. I would have expected a young woman of that time to have been a little more surprised by men behaving in erotic ways with each other—especially if they were able to perform and enjoy sex with a woman. But this is a small point in an otherwise delightful book.

This particular scene went on a bit long for my liking because I would have preferred the three of them to interact sooner. However, when Ellie does confront them with what she’s overhead them saying and doing, things do heat up.

I felt this long stretch of the three not being together and this being such a short story that it didn’t allow me to really connect with the characters like I’d hoped. I did like other aspects of this story however, like authentic dialogue, good pacing, and the description of the setting.

There’s also an added bonus to this story where the author reveals that Jimmy and Evan might get together too. I think this is a fun read if you’re looking for a different kind of ménage story.
