The author paints Robyn as the perfect city girl out of her element in a small barely there farm town. The sights, sounds and worst off, the smells are almost more than she can take in. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her and being from a small town, I totally had to laugh a little at her observations. Bless her heart! It’s good writing when it makes the reader feel things, sadness, anger, even being a little put out by the prejudices of big city folk. I couldn’t wait for her to actually meet the Rough and Ready cowboys who would not only rock her world, but change her perspective.

She most definitely needed to see her way to finding new friends. I was surprised at how her relationship with Shelly began in the story and how that turns out. Maybe Shelly will show up again and see some of the other local cowboys in a better light.

I fell for brothers Yukon and Parker right along with Robyn. They were raised good, honorable men and were just trying to make their parents proud. But making a living at crop farming was tough and it was easy to see it had taken its toll on both men. They needed a reason to keep working towards their goals, a reason to not give up on a future. That reason waltzed into the Longhorn on a dust covered pair of stilettos and it was the beginning of a love story. Okay, maybe it was the beginning of a whole lot of heated looks and sexually charged touching but a beginning nonetheless.

There were a couple of issues with “convenience” scenes that seemed to be used to establish perception or opportunity in the story but didn’t really flow with the story. It came across as unnecessary filler. There’s a scene where we first meet Yukon where he rescues a local girl from some ruffians and then later a kid shows up at their house in the middle of a rain storm. It doesn’t so much take away the story, it simply didn’t add to it, if that makes sense. The story is good without the filler. I was rooting for Robyn to see the possibilities and the future she could have with the brothers if she only had the courage.

In all, I liked this short story. The characters were interesting and I wanted to see them find their HEA. I met several potential heroes and heroines for upcoming additions to the series and it’ll be interesting to see what becomes of them. Big city girl meets small town hotness in Stetsons. I love all things mythology and gobbled up the YA books of similar title. When I read the blurb for this much more adult take on the story, I knew I had to read it. Ms. Zyon has delivered a very clever take on the gods of Olympus and their mostly human descendants.

Thomas and Lincoln are the last of the original Scion warriors to bond with their fated mate and they couldn’t be happier with who the Fates picked for them. I liked the explanation that the author gave for making them wait four years from the first time they met to recognize their connection.

Pepper was a sassy and fun character to read about and loved seeing her reunite with Thomas and Lincoln. Those guys have hot and protective down to an art. The thing these three have about touching gave me goose bumps. The only issue I had with the whole story was the dialogue. I liked that there was lots of it. More show than tell but it didn’t always feel natural. I think “forced” would be too strong of an adjective to describe it but at times it was like the characters were reading from a script that had just been handed to them. As if they didn’t know how to put feeling into the words for them to sound more natural as conversation between three people who had very deep emotions towards each other. I think it was too formal. Unless they’re British nobility, regular people tend speak in contractions more than theses three did.

Having said that, I couldn’t stop reading it. I was vested in the outcome from the moment Lincoln first touched Pepper and that was barely a touch. Everything after that was essentially foreplay to them cementing their bond and I knew that was going to be awesome because the author built the tension with looks and more touching and some very open conversation about what they all wanted. Almost too open for people who haven’t spoken in four years but it didn’t leave room for misunderstanding for sure.

If the previous five books in the series are as good as this final installment, I know I’ll have to go back to the beginning. An interesting take on a story I thought I knew. Worth the read and easy to recommend.

The only issue I had was only two of the three characters had POV. I wanted to know all three characters as individuals. There was also a reaction by Charlotte’s parents that didn’t quite seem on par with the human world but it didn’t detract from the overall storyline.

All in all, I enjoyed the read. This shifter world has some unique rules I have not seen before and would like to see again. The first in a new series, I look forward to the next installment and will keep an eye open for hot new tigers and dragons. (Those were uber cool!) I found this to be a fun and sexy story. I was surprised but pleased that Caleb and Damon approached a relationship with Opal from pretty much opposite ends of the spectrum. Damon was ready to jump right in, all but picturing babies with Opal when they had barely exchanged even six words. Yet Caleb was far more reticent. He was worried about Damon getting his heart broken, about the realities of trying to forge a relationship with a modern woman when for all intents and purposes the two brothers lived a very different, alternative lifestyle. In this respect I felt myself understanding and sympathizing strongly with Caleb. His character could have easily become a negative or bitter man, but that wasn’t the case and I felt his character was far stronger because of it. While I enjoyed both men’s personalities I was particularly connected to Caleb.

I also really enjoyed Opal’s character. A larger woman she is quite young (twenty two), innocent and in many ways – emotionally in particular – a young character. I found Opal to be full of self-doubt and somewhat malleable which usually annoys me in a heroine. While I didn’t connect as well with her as I could have I certainly found myself rooting for her and I enjoyed her quirks and foibles. She wasn’t a silly character or an annoying heroine which I was grateful for. The pacing of the story was lovely – between Damon wanting to rush right in and Caleb determined to slow things down and let them unfold in their own time I felt the story did a great job of balancing between too fast and too slow. It helped a lot that Opal was injured and so the brothers couldn’t simply jump her bones the moment they allowed her into the cabin and their life.

The sex was hot and I found it to be sensual but not over the top. There was a small but interesting plot in the middle of the story that while I found it a little superficial it did round out the story nicely and keep it from being merely all about the threesome relationship and sex. In most ways I feel this book really delivered – with interesting and layered characters and some smoking hot threesome sex it was a great read and one I’d happily recommend to friends.

I was a little disappointed Bianca thought their entire first encounter was just a dream – but it did delay the usual freak-out over “oh my goodness vampires are real”, which normally impedes the erotic shenanigans. With this mixed blessing I was pleased that we got such a hot, erotic scene in the body of the book, but a bit dejected that it took Bianca believing it wasn’t real to get there.

I found this to be an steamy and quick read, full of delicious ménage sex and perfect for a cold and quiet evening. Disengage your brain, sit back and just enjoy the fun and fast ride for exactly what it is – a great, sexy vampire threesome story.

Ms. Holly mixed things up with classic beliefs and there were quite a few times I cringed but mostly I kind of forgot what Connor was because the story, action and plot twists were incredible page turners. By keeping in mind this is fiction and utilizing willing suspension of disbelief, I enjoyed a really awesome read. The imaginative idea of split energies, both good and evil, and how light defeats dark, is incredibly appealing.

The last ditch effort to escape and return home was quite the thrill ride. The author painted the scene in vivid detail – the tunnel with the scales was a cool concept. What they discover inside was a colossal surprise and pretty weird. But, hey, this is the world of the Djinn – anything is possible.

When I said earlier that almost all the threads are tied up, that’s because there is the matter of Phillip. He’s still out there, somewhere and I hope he’s okay. Only Ms. Holly knows for sure and I look forward to finding out that the reason he can’t be found because he’s in the middle of his own HEA. One can only hope.

City of Endless Night is simply amazing. The HEA and wrap up was everything I could wish. All my favorite people were gathered together to celebrate and it made me feel good that Cade, Arcadius and Elyse are still living their happy ever after too. I guess a reader could read this book out of sequence but understanding how everyone came to be split in the first place would be much clearer if they started with The Guardian.Tales of the Djinn is a great series and if erotic readers haven’t discovered it yet, they’re missing out.

The Theme’s the Thing ~ Keeping It Blue with @MeganSlayer #writing #themes #authorthemes

When I started writing, I was told I needed a theme. Not just a general idea for what I wanted my author overall image to be, but a theme. I know, sounds confusing, doesn’t it? A very wise friend told me as I was setting out, I needed to have something that said, this is Megan Slayer every time someone saw it. Why’d she question my theme? Because back then I had a picture of racing on my blog. The photo was right at the top and to the right. It totally went with my passion, but had only a little to do with my writing because at the time, I’d only written two stories and neither had racing in them. So I set out to create a theme.

I had a few fits and stalls along the way. I knew what I wanted to write–second chance romance. A lot of authors write that. So what made mine different? Back when I started, the heat level was the thing, too. The hotter the better. But heat levels then and now are totally different. What was HAWT back then is hot now. What was ‘oh-my-gosh-scorching-the-page-gonna-melt-the-screen’ hot is now HAWT. Back then, there was dark erotic romance, but not as prevalent as now. So my initial theme of HAWT second chance romance is still viable, but the heat isn’t as hot as I once thought.

I’m still all about my second chance romance. I’ve always had a soft spot for characters who had a rough start in life or whose initial romance didn’t quite work. I want them to have happy endings. Sometimes it’s with the same people and most of the time with new people. When you pick up one of my stories, there will be a second chance romance in it.

But I’ve got another theme I hadn’t planned on. Pretty much from the start of my career as an author, I’ve had blue hair. Why? I wanted something fun to do with my hair and it covered the grays nicely. Plus…it was fun. Still is, to be honest. It’s been brighter at times and more muted at others, but it’s always been blue. Okay, there was that one patch where I had it red for a while… And you know what? People didn’t like it. They wanted the blue back. Craziness, right? Not really. They identified me with the blue hair. That’s you, they’d tell me. When I think of you, I think of Blue. Pretty nice, eh? I love it.

I had thought about a logo, but I’m not sold on one and how do you make a logo concerning blue or second chance romance? I’m not sure.

But I’ll keep plugging along. I’ll stick with the blue hair and the second chance romances. Why? They make my heart happy. The characters demand their happy ending and I’m not going to argue with them. If people think of me and think blue, then that’s great with me, too. I like to have fun. What about you? I was smiling by the end of the first chapter because of Violet.

Wow…. It has been a long time since I have read a novel where the female character was self sufficient in and out of violent situations. I will try not to go into much detail but the first chapter started with Violet beating the daylights of some gangsters and having fun doing it. 😀 I am all for female characters like this, but this was not the only reason for me falling in love with these characters. Mason and Jacob were understanding and patient with her. That, for me, was rare since in some of these shifter books, the passion and the chemistry outweighs everything else.

From the get go, I realized she is a tough woman with a past. She holds grudges easily and harbors a lot of guilt. I wasn’t sure if the bond between Mason, Violet & Jacob would be permanent. Will Violet trust her mates and let them in or push them aside?

Mason and Jacob highlight the importance of mates in various parts of the book quite often. So much so that I was kind of annoyed by the repetition. As the story progressed, I was able ot look beyond this quibble. I should mention there is a lot of violence in this book. Be prepared. For me, though, book was worth it. I could not put it down.

I loved this great paranormal menage book!

I’ve recently become a devoted reader of Kryssie Fortune’s books. This one is is a stand alone story although it is connected to the Scattered Siblings series. I loved the idea of half brothers Elias and Seth being mated to the same female and their love for their witch helping to heal a bond that had been torn apart by betrayal. Tempest was feisty enough to take on both of her supernatural mates but first she had to find her hidden strength. Of course, there was the trouble with a prophecy that was seemingly insurmountable and a formidable enemy added into the mix.

The characters in this book endeared themselves to me because fate had not been kind to any of them. It was Elias who tugged at my heart the most though. I loved the sexy menage sex scenes too. This was one very hot story! It was fast paced and loaded with action, as well.

Kryssie Fortune did a fabulous job on this book. Her writing was amazing and the dynamics of this supernatural world promise many exciting books to come for my future reading bliss. Meanwhile, Hades has more redeeming to do so that I can get my hands on the next book soon.

Lucabella won’t leave without her answers and the two brothers are completely stumped by her beauty and fiery passion. When she becomes involved with the two brothers, things become even more complicated.

I found this to be an interesting ménage story with a good amount of plot. While I found the clichéd response of the brothers when they found Bella doing some exotic dancing a bit disappointing, I couldn’t really blame them for taking everything at face value. Bella’s behavior was of course for a good reason and the brothers should have entertained that notion – but thankfully all that miscommunication was dealt with fairly early on in the story and acted as an excellent conduit for the three of them to learn about each other before the relationship really started to blossom.

Once all the doubting and frustration was over, the chemistry and sex really took off and the book became far more enjoyable to my mind. The ménage sex was wonderfully hot and I enjoyed the pacing of the relationship that grew between Hayden, Zac and Bella. I was a little surprised that once they all became intimate neither Hayden nor Zac seemed miffed at some of the “omissions” Bella had with them about her work. I felt some of that potential conflict was skimmed over because it happened right at the very end of the story and there was an awful lot of things happening all at once. I did like how the three of them really started to trust each other and while I felt the depth of love might have been a little soon it was lovely to see they were all on the same page and really getting emotionally – not just physically – committed to each other.

For a hot and action-packed threesome story this one was quite good. I enjoyed the sex and felt there was plenty of interesting plot to keep the pace and action moving forward at a good speed.
