Phyllis Green has decided her vibrator is better than men. Or so she thinks, until a little old lady named Agnes appears on a milk carton in Phyllis’s fridge on Valentine’s Eve.

Agnes claims to be Phyllis’s Fairy ghostmother, and she’s going to take Phyllis to Valentines past, present, and future. Will one of the visions turn out to be a keeper?

Nobody should sleep alone on Valentine’s Day.

The premise grabbed my attention immediately. It included so many creative nods to other genres and writing styles that I couldn’t wait to see what the author would come up with next. She really outdid herself with all of her references. Honestly, the blurb didn’t even begin to describe some of the clever things she came up with. This was definitely one of those times when the blurb and the premise underpromised what they had to offer only to astound me with all of the delightful tricks they had up their sleeves.

I loved this book’s sense of humor. There were several scenes that made me chuckle, and many more that pasted a smile on my lips. By far the best scenes were the ones that involved Phyllis’ fairy ghostmother and her raunchy expectations for what Phyllis would do on past, present, and future Valentine’s Days. She was quite funny! I’d sure like to read more about this or any other fairy ghostmother if Ms. Gaines ever decides to write about them again.

All three of the sex scenes in this story were steamy and well written. Phyllis had excellent chemistry with all of her partners. While I immediately knew which one I hoped she’d end up with longterm, it was still a great deal of fun to see her try them all out and see who was most compatible with her. Sex isn’t everything in a relationship, but being compatible in this area sure is important.

I can’t recommend Valentine’s Ghost highly enough!

His world. His rules. Her love.

Though his methods may be rough, when it comes to protecting what’s his, Russian vor Sergei Petrovyh’s heart is always in the right place. That’s never been more true than when the gorgeous Evette Labadie asks him for a job. He knows enough to keep his hands off someone as beloved by the locals as Evie, but there’s something about her that calls to him—no matter how badly he burns to make her his.

Don’t think Evie hasn’t noticed the powerful Russian mafia boss who makes her favorite diner a regular stop. How can she not? He’s as hot as his reputation is dangerous. But everyone in her struggling New Orleans neighborhood knows he’s the man to turn to. And right now she needs money to get her son out of trouble.

Her other needs—needs she knows damn well Sergei can more than satisfy—will have to wait.

Evie soon finds herself playing Cinderella to a man who, despite what people believe, is definitely more prince than villain. She can’t help falling deeper in love with each passing day. But when a turf war between Sergei and a rival brings violence to her doorstep, Evie must come to grips with loving a man who will do anything to defend her…or walk away from her best chance at a happily-ever-after of her very own.

“She was his weakness. But she was also his redemption.” They should avoid one another at all costs but that isn’t going to happen. Once he has a taste, she’s his to defend but also his to cherish. He’s more than capable of both.

I’ve read a bunch of Russian mafia stories and each author has their own take on what it’s like to be part of “the family”. Some go super dark where women are essentially owned. That can be interesting but I think I prefer Ms Morgan’s view. More of an old school “we just want to own the neighborhood and collect on debts, while not-so-secretly skirting just outside the law” trope.

Don’t get me wrong, Sergei isn’t a good person. He’s an unapologetic criminal but he’s also loyal and protective of his family. When he declares Evette and Emerson to be family, it’s a big deal and I loved how he integrates them into his life. What was equally awesome to watch was how his personality changed because of Evette and Emerson. She’s pretty tough for a ray of sunshine!

This isn’t a paranormal book but there’s definitely a sense of magic in the chemistry that flows between Sergei and Evette. It was flavored and tangible. Real and powerful.

You can’t have a mafia story without there being someone who thinks they’re bigger and badder, or at the very least smarter, trying to make a name for themselves. Bad idea when the real big bad has something to protect. Don’t underestimate Sergei or his Bratva family. There literally isn’t much these guys wouldn’t do to protect what they consider “Mine”. I can’t wait to read Kir and Roman’s books!

Readers who love the dark side just a little too much should absolutely pick up a copy of His To Defend. Hot protective men who live for family and love with every fiber of their being. They’ll make a girl want to take a walk on the dark side, too.

Her hot pants certainly heated up Valentine’s Day.

They met by accident in a bar on the night of Valentine’s Day. She had walked out on a cheating boyfriend. He was at loose ends and feeling fidgety. One drink opened the door to a night of erotic adventure. No holds barred. No restrictions. Except…no names. She was Val, he was Ace.

Don’t blink. This story moves from zero to off the charts in barely sixty pages.

Desiree Holt knows how to bring the heat. It’s just a guarantee. I don’t open one of her stories wondering if the characters are going to hit it off. Val and Ace, as they’re known to each in the beginning, are completely up front with their expectations from the time they make eye contact to when they fall into a sexually satisfied stupor hours later.

And then they part. I can honestly say, I didn’t see the twist coming. I admit, I almost always try to figure out the author’s direction well before it’s revealed. I didn’t guess this but I didn’t hate it either.

I wasn’t given a whole lot of time to really invest my heart into Val and Ace but I was certainly entertained. The story was well written enough that my imagination continued their story long after the page. Not an HEA but definitely a happily for now with good potential.

This is the perfect little palate cleanser in between those long novel nights.

Cupid needs to be shot with one of his own arrows.

Chelsea hates Valentine’s Day. She hates the pink and red hearts hung all over town, the kissy faces everyone makes, and the cringe-worthy cards. The one thing she actually loved, her dog Princess, is happy in a new home, and Chelsea has no one to celebrate with. Not that she would. The whole holiday is a marketing ploy to get people to spend money.

Tennyson Barber is happy. He’s got a brand new medical practice and the company of beautiful women whenever he wants it. Why then, is his inner daddy so fascinated with Chelsea Grant? She’s coming off a bad marriage and has a whole mess of problems he should avoid. Tennyson is nobody’s knight in shining armor, but he wants to slay Chelsea’s dragons anyway.

Grab a huge drink, disconnect your brain and relax back and just enjoy the fun and spicy ride this book offers. I enjoyed the very faint edge of paranormal aspect to the story – a few rather interesting Guardian angels had small parts to play in the story – but overall I found this contemporary romance to be fun and rather naughty in a very good way.

Tennyson is trying hard to get his medical business up and running, and while Chelsea has caught his eye, he’s not interested in dating anyone local in case things turn sour and his enjoyment of bedroom games became public knowledge. Chelsea isn’t looking for an intimate partner either, with her ex-husband cleaning her out and discovering a few days later that she’s pregnant. Chelsea is broke and struggling to find work, a lot more interested in putting food on her table than running around dating the new guy. But fate – and a determined Guardian Angel – shows then both just how well suited they are in every way.

I was really pleased the author gave quite a bit of the background and character details in the start of the story. I can see it would have been easy to just have Chelsea and Tennyson bump into each other and fall into insta-lust, but I really feel the story is stronger and more believable for the slower pace in the beginning. While I felt the BDSM elements to the story could have been a little more subtly woven into the start, I found this aspect to the story both tasteful and not too over the top.

My favourite part of the story was hands down the interactions of the characters and the lovely feeling of a small town that permutated through the story. While there was quite the hint of kink that I found surprising at times overall these were interesting, fairly normal people I could relate to and feel believable. Tennyson and Chelsea’s romance also was logical and captured my interest from the start. All the characters – but Tennyson and Chelsea in particular – were well written, layered and for me, personally, really made this story exceptional.

With a deliciously slow pace, exceptional characters that I adored and some really steamy BDSM sex this was a great read and a story I know I’ll enjoy again in the future.

A Blind Woman and an Alpha Capo.  Belle and Diego. This was an unlikely couple.

Belle is blind but loves being independent. Nevertheless, when it came to her friends it was different. Being blind means she would need help walking in places she is not familiar with. When friends ask to go to a club that she is not familiar with she said yes. That club is where she met Diego.

Belle is sweet and giving. The opposite of Diego who is an alpha to the core, until it came to his marriage it seems. He was a big bad mafia capo until it came to the heroine. What made me read this twice was because their talks were normal. Really normal. With little chemistry. I think it was curiosity that made him stop and talk to her. Their relationship developed slowly over time and I loved reading that. However, it was annoying me a lot when he kept lying and lying. I kept waiting for him to break the engagement from the other woman.

His Secret Sin was exactly what it said. Belle was his secret until she was not. That brought hell into their world.

This story is about a relationship between a crime boss/capo and a regular woman, and it’s enjoyable since their relationship went through highs and lows. At the end, they come out better than before. The book is a good read for those who want something a bit different.

When his newfound happiness is threatened, Marcus has no choice but to protect the girl he once bullied and pushed aside. Will he make it in time?

Real power is in the giving, not the taking. That’s not how mafia son, Marcus Gionvannia, was brought up but it’s what he’ll learn at the hands of the one woman he’s lived his life trying to hate as he protects her. The feeling is pretty mutual, or so she thought.

I’ve read some dark mafia books. There’s always the element of darkness and perceived power over the weak. Sam Crescent doesn’t deviate from that formula but still put out a unique and intriguing story. I read a excerpt from the book before deciding to request it for review. I couldn’t imagine how the story could begin with so much anger and deception and end with a true and realistic HEA for Marcus and Laura. I knew I had to read it.

The author gives the reader chronological glimpses into the past. Brief episodes where Marcus and Laura cross paths and the outcome. It was very revealing as the present day story was told. Who Marcus was and how he became the man who forced Laura down the aisle, who constantly reminded her that she was his property, who swore that he would do his duty to the family. But it also showed me that Marcus was and would be protective of Laura, even love her in his own way.

The author gave me hope for Marcus and Laura in little ways that I truly appreciated. This was a quick read and one that I didn’t put down until finished. Readers who look for dark redemption will appreciate this one.

Until recently, Jill had found plenty of sexy satisfaction from hot, no-strings-attached flings from handsome strangers. But after eight non-orgasmic interludes she knew something needed changing up to get her back on her game. For years she’d used quick sex and fleeting orgasms to run from her past pain and family’s betrayal. Much as Jill was loathe to admit it, maybe it was time for her to allow a man access to more than just her panties?

I found this to be an interesting and steamy read. I was pleased that there was a lot more complexity and depth to Jill than just a burned woman seeking gratification in an endless stream of men. Under her blasé attitude and string of conquests she was relatable and vulnerable – both characteristics which I could understand and appreciate. Kyle, was also more than just a shy nerd feeling slightly depressed and quite lonely in a new town. I enjoyed watching these two characters circle each other and try to work out what, exactly, lay between them.

It was delightfully refreshing to me how Kyle, initially at least, simply wanted friendship with Jill. I was amused how much this perplexed her – it was completely different from most of her previous experience and totally threw her for a loop. But while Kyle could feel attraction to Jill, he still mourned the death of his wife and I found it just wonderful how for a change it was the hero who needed time and space to sort his feelings out and come around to an intimate relationship. I thought this change-up in the usual stereotypes, as well as the balance between building a proper, romantic relationship and keeping the sensuality simmering between Kyle and Jill was handled really well by the author.

Sexy and romantic, this story checked a lot of the boxes for me and I really found myself interested and invested in Kyle and Jill’s relationship. The conflict aspect of the story was quite clichéd (I could see it coming from a mile off) and while it was understandable and realistic a part of me felt let down that it was so predictable. I was extremely relieved that this misunderstanding was put right very quickly and even to a degree helped Kyle and Jill deepen their relationship. The slower pace of the growing relationship between Jill and Kyle, their characters and complexities were all really well written and quite refreshing to me. The sex, when it finally came, was scorching hot and the perfect level of naughty.

With an interesting and slightly different style of plot and two really relatable and intriguing characters overall I found this short story to be a great read. Recommended.

She hadn’t expected the hard punch of attraction to hit her all the way up the top of the mountain, but Pierce knocked her off her feet nevertheless. I enjoyed this quick read. The author did an amazing job setting the scene and certainly whet my appetite to google some pictures of the Appalachians. I find in this day and age the temptation to throw technology out the window and enjoy a simpler life and be less connected twenty-four seven is a real thing. Following Amee as she did exactly this was a delight and something I could really empathise with. Readers looking for a slow build up in the chemistry and intimacy between Amee and Pierce won’t find that here. They each are extremely attracted to the other and not afraid to reach out for what they want. While I, personally, would have preferred a little more time to get to know each of the characters I felt their chemistry and connection was written strongly and believably enough to compensate for their near insta-lust.

The sex was hot and explicitly written – readers looking for a sensual and steamy read should find this definitely fits the bill. I was pleased though that after their initial intimacy things didn’t get weird or stilted between them. I enjoyed this fact this had a Happy For Now ending and that both Pierce and Amee clearly found what they were each looking for, for right now.

Relatable and sexy, this short story is a great, quick read. Disconnect your brain, grab a large, cold drink and enjoy the steamy sensuality between Amee and Pierce as they each trust and reach out to grab what they both want. A fun and sexy read.

Ten years ago, Hollie Callihan left her best friends Cade Easton and Sawyer Matthews in the middle of the night for fear of breaking their hearts—and broke her own instead. She’s spent her whole life chasing adventures on distant shores, but spring floods in the Black Reef Mountains force Hollie, Region VIII FEMA Response Director, to return to Wolf Creek, the town where she left her heart in two.

Cade and Sawyer are now Wolf Creek’s chief of police and fire captain, Hollie’s first line of defense in emergency response…making them unavoidable. Her former friends are all grown up now and totally at odds since she left.

After all, Wolf Creek is a temporary stop and there’s no place for the daydreams or nightly fantasies she has about Cade and Sawyer—the same ones she’s been having for the last ten long years.

But facing genuine destruction and danger alongside Cade and Sawyer helps Hollie learn that vulnerability and trust aren’t dirty words. If she’s brave enough to let Cade and Sawyer in on what had her running all those years ago, Hollie might just find that taking the biggest risk of her life leads to its biggest adventure—three hearts beating as one.

A natural disaster that FEMA agent Hollie Callihan can fairly accurately predict leads to a reunion collision with her past that no one could predict.

It was unnatural to want two guys, right? That’s what a younger version of Hollie told herself nearly 10 years ago. The heart wants who the heart wants but she couldn’t see a way without hurting one of them so she chose to spread the love…err, uh heartache actually. Coming face to face with much more grown up and commanding versions of the boys she left, as well as some surprising new trouples (tri-couples) in town, has Hollie questioning her reasons to go and embracing her reasons to stay. I was sad right along with them, for the time they had lost, and I think the author did a good job of conveying that.

Cade and Sawyer aren’t what anyone in town would call friends or even frenemies. I actually thought that was an interesting twist from the author because in most scenarios like this, the guys are typically at least friends with the same goal. Not these two so, I looked forward to seeing exactly how they would work things out between themselves and still convince Hollie to give them (the three of them) a chance.

The story flows really well and the constant threat that looms over the town, the impending natural disaster, kept the tension ratcheted up for a good portion of the book. When it finally hits! Expectantly destructive and well described. I felt like I was battling Mother Nature right along side of them.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for some nagging grammatical errors, this book would be close to perfect. Not like every other sentence or even page but unfortunately noticeable to the observant.

Readers looking for a story where the guys or girl are constantly denying themselves of what they want shouldn’t read this book. If instead, they appreciate a lust/love temptation that can’t be denied, Cade/Hollie/and Sawyer’s reawakening is the way to go! It’s powerful and emotional and just a bit raw. And it made me want to go check out the three books that precede this one. That’s some good story telling in my book.

He sets out to make amends, and Jessie must decide if she’ll allow him back into her heart, and give Adrian a place to finally call home.

Jessie had been devastated when Adrian threw her out, but she refused to try and mend their relationship when it had so clearly been one-sided all this time. Discovering she was pregnant hadn’t changed her mind and she was determined to raise her son as best she could without anything at all from Adrian. However, when Adrian learned about their child, he was determined to be part of the child’s life, no matter what it took.

I initially found it really difficult to like Adrian’s character. While I felt bad he’d been horribly used by his ex-wife in the past, for the first few chapters I didn’t feel this justified his behavior towards Jessie – a completely different woman who didn’t even know Adrian’s ex-wofe. Adrian’s distrust and attitude towards Jessie and their child was quite a turn-off for me. I was grateful when Adrian’s initial reaction settled down and he acted more maturely and responsibly.

While it took me a while to warm up to Adrian’s character, I related to Jessie’s character straight away. I also was pretty impressed with how calm she was to Adrian crashing back into her life and how willing she was to include him in their child’s world. If I’m honest I’m not sure I could have acted as graciously and so while I’m not certain Jessie’s complete acceptance is realistic, but it certainly made the story smoother and my enjoyment of it as a whole, a lot better.

I was pleased with Jessie’s backbone during her and Adrian’s discussions and overall felt this plot of them settling the past and deciding to try and reconnect to build a family unit took up the vast bulk of the storyline. I’m not sure I really believed in the longevity of their relationship – Adrian carried some deep scars from his ex-wife and had proven to be fairly hotheaded and blind when it comes to certain matters of trust. I did feel though that both he and Jessie were determined to work on their relationship and absolutely do their best by their son, so while this wasn’t what I would classify as a traditional romance or happy ever after I think plenty of readers will enjoy the story and be pleased Adrian and Jessie could find each other again.

Not your average romance, this story is in many ways realistic and messy but still satisfying and easy to read.
