Since her bastard ex left them and cleaned them out life has been incredibly difficult but she’s doing her best. When her car is unexpectedly towed Deputy Kaden Hunter is called out and is astonished at how much Stevie and Mika tug on his heart. Can Kaden help make Mika’s secret wish come true?

I really enjoyed this realistic and heart-warming Christmas story. I found myself really empathizing with Stevie and respecting her strength and determination. Her instinct and determination to do the best by her son – and stand up for herself was really pleasing to read. I was impressed that she didn’t even consider giving an inch to her asshole ex and while her reluctance to take assistance from Kaden was something I could relate to, I was also pleased to find Stevie wasn’t going to let her pride stop herself from accepting his help and genuine offers of assistance – particularly in relation to Mika.

Both Stevie and Kaden each have a past and are wonderfully complicated characters. I enjoyed the pace of this story – which let them both explore and get to know each other at a slower pace, and I thoroughly enjoyed peeling back the layers on each of their histories. Considering both Stevie and Kaden’s situation I was pleased that they didn’t become sexually intimate until right toward the end of the story. Despite the heat level of the story this slowness in the sexual department certainly made a lot more sense to me and fitted better with the story. When they were intimate I found it delightfully written and very steamy and satisfying.

With plenty of Christmas cheer and a whole bunch of reality, this wonderful, warm-hearted and character-driven story was a pleasure to read and one I know I’ll enjoy again in the future.

One thing is for certain, Shona will need all her skills, energy, and strength if she’s ever going to live a normal life again.

But what is normal?

The third story in the Ironash series finally has DI Shona Williams getting some desperately sought answers concerning her past.

I really enjoyed this strongly written police-style mystery story. With well-written, deeply complicated characters and a lovely small-town setting this British mystery is a vibrant and excellent read that I feel everyone will enjoy. The two main characters – DI Shona Williams and her work partner, DS Earle Montague are exceptionally written. I found them realistic, interesting and complicated as only real people can be – conflicted by aspects of their past and present and messy in a relatable and all-too-human kind of way. I feel there is plenty in this story to appeal to a wide range of readers.

While this is the third book of the series the author has written this story in such a manner I feel it can easily be picked up as a stand alone. I personally would strongly recommend readers pick up the previous two installments of the Ironash series to receive the full enjoyment of the complex and detailed weaving of the full plot surrounding Shona and her past. A large part of this story rounds out and closes off a number of aspects of Shona’s driving force and desperately needed answers and I feel that readers will derive more satisfaction and pleasure having started this journey from the beginning. That said I don’t feel it’s in any way necessary to read the two previous books to enjoy this story. A.J. Harlem’s superior story-telling gives the reader all the details and smoothly explains exactly where Shona, Earle and their investigation is at in a simple and brief manner and any reader starting with this story can derive the full enjoyment of the story. To me, personally, this level of writing is the mark of an exceptional author. I am strongly hopeful this will not be the end of the series – there is absolutely still the potential for more to come, I hope. Life will continue for Shona, Earle and Ironash and I’d love to see how the revelations of this story add to the dynamic of their lives.

Another very strong point I adored was the characters and working relationship between Shona and Earle in particular. While there is no sexual chemistry between them, they have such a strong bond, not just of co-workers who must have each other’s backs and trust each other deeply, but also of friends. This slow-moving growth to their relationship has been a delight to witness and particularly since this case hits so close to home seeing the growth in their relationship and working dynamic has been lovely.

As always, there is a police-based plot as well. In this story it takes a bit of a back seat to Shona’s main, and highly personal, case but I was pleased the author did not give short shrift to Manfred or his revenge plans either. As in the two previous stories I felt a level of empathy for the “villain” of the piece. One of the most refreshing aspects to these novels and A.J. Harlem’s writing as a whole is that the author makes me think about “regular” crime in a very different manner. Where we as people – and society as a whole – draws the line between acceptable and not acceptable behavior is always a point of contention and interest and I’ve found that these novels have the knack of making me really sit back and think about when something is understandable and when it’s pushing too far. And any book that can really make me sit back, think and study my own beliefs and experiences and talk about it with friends and family is an exceptional book. These three novels by A.J. Harlem fall within that category and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Deeply thoughtful with complex and interesting characters this is a magnificent book and one I will eagerly re-read many times again. The author walks a fine line between making the “villain” completely relatable and sympathetic while still delivering an exceptional mystery in a British small-town setting. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book and see what happens next.

Most of the Sci-Fi terminology and inter-planet travel was understandable and I enjoyed the fact what seemed like a simple job quickly turned on it’s head.

It took me a while to really grasp and understand Lanyon’s character. I could accept this, as the book is seventh in the series, but I did find myself (particularly at the start) wishing the author had given a bit more detail and fleshing out of Lanyon’s character and motivations since I didn’t have any of the previous history of the other books to fall back on and simply know or accept some of his actions and desires. After the first few chapters when a number of different plots began to converge the larger picture began to clear for me and I really started to enjoy the story – and Lanyon’s character – a great deal more.

I enjoyed the quick pace of the story, finding that the plot progressed smoothly and it helped the book roll right along. Even though it had been a number of years, Royal hadn’t forgotten Bone – the piercer and BDSM Master who had pierced Royal’s cock before he’d gone undercover. When they meet again, this time nothing is stopping them from truly getting to know each other.

I enjoyed this quick read – steamy and sensual with a good level of kink in it. I liked how things were simple and easy for Royal even though he had a bit of baggage and some genuine trepidation. I felt like the scene with Royal’s ex-police-partner was a little brief. While it absolutely helped bring the conflict and tension to a head the antagonism felt just a little out of the blue to me and I feel a bit more detail before and after this scene would have really rounded the story out.

I loved both Bone and Royal’s characters though and the chemistry between them absolutely sizzled. Readers looking for a good amount of spice and kink should feel this really fits the bill. This story isn’t dark – Bone has been in the lifestyle a while and Royal isn’t a virgin to these games. I found it refreshing that all of Royal’s experience with BDSM though had been undercover and therefore “not real” in a sense. This was a delicious way to have many things new and fresh for Royal without him appearing to be completely innocent. I loved that balance and found it really helped sell the story to me and I greatly enjoyed it.

With some seriously smoking hot sex scenes, plenty of various kinks – sounds, plugs, piercings and restraints – but nothing felt over the top of excessive in the style of the story. Best of all the attraction and chemistry between the two men felt realistic to me and it was clear they were both completely into each other which was just lovely.

A kinky, steamy read that was highly enjoyable for me.

She’s coming off a bad marriage and has a whole mess of problems he should avoid. Tennyson is nobody’s knight in shining armor, but he wants to slay Chelsea’s dragons anyway.

Grab a huge drink, disconnect your brain and relax back and just enjoy the fun and spicy ride this book offers. I enjoyed the very faint edge of paranormal aspect to the story – a few rather interesting Guardian angels had small parts to play in the story – but overall I found this contemporary romance to be fun and rather naughty in a very good way.

Tennyson is trying hard to get his medical business up and running, and while Chelsea has caught his eye, he’s not interested in dating anyone local in case things turn sour and his enjoyment of bedroom games became public knowledge. Chelsea isn’t looking for an intimate partner either, with her ex-husband cleaning her out and discovering a few days later that she’s pregnant. Chelsea is broke and struggling to find work, a lot more interested in putting food on her table than running around dating the new guy. But fate – and a determined Guardian Angel – shows then both just how well suited they are in every way.

I was really pleased the author gave quite a bit of the background and character details in the start of the story. I can see it would have been easy to just have Chelsea and Tennyson bump into each other and fall into insta-lust, but I really feel the story is stronger and more believable for the slower pace in the beginning. While I felt the BDSM elements to the story could have been a little more subtly woven into the start, I found this aspect to the story both tasteful and not too over the top.

My favourite part of the story was hands down the interactions of the characters and the lovely feeling of a small town that permutated through the story. While there was quite the hint of kink that I found surprising at times overall these were interesting, fairly normal people I could relate to and feel believable. Tennyson and Chelsea’s romance also was logical and captured my interest from the start. All the characters – but Tennyson and Chelsea in particular – were well written, layered and for me, personally, really made this story exceptional.

With a deliciously slow pace, exceptional characters that I adored and some really steamy BDSM sex this was a great read and a story I know I’ll enjoy again in the future.

Greta is astonished when she attends a meeting being held to introduce an important new client and it turns out to be Jacob – with whom she had a brief afternoon fling but was still vivid in her memories. Neither Greta nor Jacob want to make waves professionally, but can they sort out their complicated personal feelings?

I found this steamy and sensual full length novel was surprising and engrossing. I thoroughly enjoyed the authors’ tone and writing style and found it both modern and easy to read, quickly finding myself deeply curious about how Greta and Jacob could resolve their history and build a solid base to begin their relationship again. Each had incorrect, pre-conceived notions about the other and it was amusing to watch them both have to adjust their snap judgments of the other and pretty much start from the beginning again.

The romance moved quite slowly and I both enjoyed this and found it difficult. I love a story where I can really get to know the characters first, understand their motivations and reasons, plus it’s always lovely to see them interact together without all the drama and extra complexities that romance always brings. But since Greta and Jacob had already been intimate in the past it felt a little stilted to me how they tried to wind their relationship backwards and be platonic together, just colleagues and pretend their memories and intimacy didn’t exist. It felt weird and a little unrealistic to me, so in that sense the slowness of the pace of their romance just never gelled or worked properly for me.

I found the intimate scenes between Greta and Jacob to be steamy and well-written, they were descriptive and passionate, but not over the top or too provocative. I thought the author did a good job showing the complexities of Greta and Jacob’s relationship. Each of them had sensible reasons behind their actions but – particularly in the beginning – neither were very good at expressing or conveying themselves to the other. I was a little disappointed that they both tended to make assumptions and react without clearly understanding where the other was coming from – that felt a bit silly to me, personally. But I was pleased particularly once they both began to see the other wasn’t as bad as they had originally assumed they both tried hard to communicate better and understand what was really happening.

For the most part I thoroughly enjoyed this steamy and fun romance, finding the winding and complicated road Greta and Jacob traveled together to be interesting and a great read. There were a few clichés – Greta’s ex and the smarmy co-worker who wanted to get in her pants both felt a little like plot-devices to ramp up the competitiveness and tension – but I have to admit they worked a treat to make the story feel more complicated. I enjoyed watching both Greta and Jacob have to work to mend and then build their relationship and blips on the path are a part of what life’s all about.

With modern and interesting characters, a good cast of strong secondary characters and plenty of twists and turns I found this to be a fun and interesting read.

Shawn wishes his older brother was still at the campus, but after two murders – one of them his brother’s room-mate – things had changed, and Shawn discovers there might be plenty of unpleasant things lurking underneath the surface at the University.

I found this to be an interesting and well-plotted mystery story. I was a little disappointed at first that the timeline seemed to jump around a fair bit from the past to the present; it made following the story a little more difficult than I usually enjoy, but I was curious enough about the Fraternity and what lay behind the murders to keep pushing on. I’m glad that I persisted, as once the history had been explained seeing the two plotlines weave carefully and craftily together was really interesting.

I feel readers will really be able to relate to both Shawn and Nina. Shawn is trying to get his feet under him, as a freshman to the University. He’s not keen to get involved with the fraternity as his brother hadn’t been keen on the rumors of bullying and hazing that dogged the club. I also really enjoyed Nina’s character. As a reporter collecting data and investigate the two murders for the book she wanted to write she was both a strong character but also determined and I felt she added a good balance to Shawn’s unknowing and younger style of presence.

There are a number of layered and complicated characters in this mystery and I enjoyed watching them all interact with each other. I feel this story is definitely plot and character-centric and the setting of the University gave the whole story a bit of a “small town” style of feel to me. Everyone knew each other and all their lives crossed over in various ways and means. I felt the tension and conflict was handled very well by the author, with subtle pressure and innuendo to pressure and control some of the characters giving the whole story an ominous and faint air of trouble bubbling and lurking under the surface. I could easily see how the currents of power and corruption reached out to tangle pretty much everyone’s lives and it was an engrossing read. Once the plot and various characters started really coming into their own I ended up finishing the second half of the story in one sitting – and I can’t recall the last time I stayed up late because I simply couldn’t put a book down.

I found this to be a really strongly written and well plotted story. The mystery isn’t exactly a “who done it” but with layered and complicated characters, plenty of back-scratching and trading of favours coupled with subtle corruption there is suspense and tension a-plenty throughout this tightly woven short story. A great read and an author I plan to keep an eye out for. Recommended.

And he’s the Devil himself.

This is the second installment of the Ironash series and DI Shona Williams is settling in to returning to small-town life after a number of years at the Met. I enjoyed seeing this series unfold and was really pleased that this story could stand well by itself. With a number of regular characters – including her still-mysterious partner, DS Earle Montague I think readers will gain more from having read the first book but shouldn’t be worried about picking this up by itself.

This full length story has the solid feel of a British crime novel – with the wonderful aspect of regular, day-to-day life and the feel of a small, well-established community. I loved how this was strengthened by snippets like a quick sideline into some missing garden gnomes, or how everyone knew each other but still maintained some secrets. It really had the flavour and colour of normal, regular life and this both eased me and really excited me to keep reading more and more. Shona has her own – very personal and very secret – reasons for returning and I was delighted that more of this longer-term plot was parceled out. Again, I feel the author did an excellent job giving enough back-story to keep a new reader understanding the bigger picture, but progressed Shona’s private journey enough to keep me feeling like this particular sub-plot was moving forward and Shona was getting closer to her end-goal.

I also found the main plot – revolving around a bunch of college kids – both scarily realistic and something most readers could really sink their teeth into. Online bullying, the explosion of social media and literally everyone now having access to camera’s in their phone and instant gratification from the internet has shaped and changed much of the social landscape in the last decade. While bullying – and rude pictures, teasing and the pains of growing up – is not at all new, many of the difficulties young adults face nowadays is pretty extreme. The fact this novel touches on a number of these points was, I personally felt, very topical and brave.

I really enjoyed Olga’s character. While not comfortable, I felt the author did an amazing job making her both relatable but also realistic. I feel many readers might not be as sympathetic to her as I was, but I would be shocked if she didn’t at least start conversations and be the sort of character readers are eager to discuss with friends after finishing this story. Was her revenge and plan too extreme, even after the horrendous actions of her classmates? Were things like her mother’s mental health struggles or Olga’s own fascination with death and Gothic influence indicators or just another aspect of a confused teen trying to sort her life out? I could go on for hours hypothesizing and discussing various elements brought in on this story and feel there were an amazing number of layers and potential “paths not travelled” here. I truly feel there is something that would touch everyone to be found in this story and that is the mark of a great book – that almost anyone could read it and take something away that they feel the need to discuss and chew over when the story is finished.

I definitely feel that all readers will question how far is too much for enacting revenge like Olga did. Admittedly Olga most certainly crossed the line – but a strong part of me can’t blame her or think her evil for her actions. I absolutely think this is the sort of story that will start conversations, make people think and perhaps even shine a light on a real problem that many – if not most – people face at some point nowadays. And that, in my opinion, is the mark of a really great book. Something that makes you think and makes you want to discuss the plot and elements with friends and family.

With an interesting plot, some complicated characters and a lovely, very British small-town feel this is a great book and one I absolutely enjoyed.

For years she’d used quick sex and fleeting orgasms to run from her past pain and family’s betrayal. Much as Jill was loathe to admit it, maybe it was time for her to allow a man access to more than just her panties?

I found this to be an interesting and steamy read. I was pleased that there was a lot more complexity and depth to Jill than just a burned woman seeking gratification in an endless stream of men. Under her blasé attitude and string of conquests she was relatable and vulnerable – both characteristics which I could understand and appreciate. Kyle, was also more than just a shy nerd feeling slightly depressed and quite lonely in a new town. I enjoyed watching these two characters circle each other and try to work out what, exactly, lay between them.

It was delightfully refreshing to me how Kyle, initially at least, simply wanted friendship with Jill. I was amused how much this perplexed her – it was completely different from most of her previous experience and totally threw her for a loop. But while Kyle could feel attraction to Jill, he still mourned the death of his wife and I found it just wonderful how for a change it was the hero who needed time and space to sort his feelings out and come around to an intimate relationship. I thought this change-up in the usual stereotypes, as well as the balance between building a proper, romantic relationship and keeping the sensuality simmering between Kyle and Jill was handled really well by the author.

Sexy and romantic, this story checked a lot of the boxes for me and I really found myself interested and invested in Kyle and Jill’s relationship. The conflict aspect of the story was quite clichéd (I could see it coming from a mile off) and while it was understandable and realistic a part of me felt let down that it was so predictable. I was extremely relieved that this misunderstanding was put right very quickly and even to a degree helped Kyle and Jill deepen their relationship. The slower pace of the growing relationship between Jill and Kyle, their characters and complexities were all really well written and quite refreshing to me. The sex, when it finally came, was scorching hot and the perfect level of naughty.

With an interesting and slightly different style of plot and two really relatable and intriguing characters overall I found this short story to be a great read. Recommended.

Amee Colburn wants to leave the past behind by hiking up the highest peak of the Smoky Mountains, but there’s a storm of attraction waiting for her at the top. Pierce Levy, the hot mountain man who owns the rustic camp she checks into, is dealing with a salacious error that only magnifies the carnal pull between them. Time spent with Pierce is challenging—not to mention dangerous and compelling—both on the trail and in a more intimate setting. For Amee, outdoor adventure has never been so stimulating.

Amee climbed the highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains, both to prove she could, but also to try for some much needed alone-time. She needed to remind herself she was independent, self sufficient; that the hurt and pain she left behind wasn’t going to define her. She hadn’t expected the hard punch of attraction to hit her all the way up the top of the mountain, but Pierce knocked her off her feet nevertheless. Will this be a passing fling, or something more stable?

I enjoyed this quick read. The author did an amazing job setting the scene and certainly whet my appetite to google some pictures of the Appalachians. I find in this day and age the temptation to throw technology out the window and enjoy a simpler life and be less connected twenty-four seven is a real thing. Following Amee as she did exactly this was a delight and something I could really empathise with. Readers looking for a slow build up in the chemistry and intimacy between Amee and Pierce won’t find that here. They each are extremely attracted to the other and not afraid to reach out for what they want. While I, personally, would have preferred a little more time to get to know each of the characters I felt their chemistry and connection was written strongly and believably enough to compensate for their near insta-lust.

The sex was hot and explicitly written – readers looking for a sensual and steamy read should find this definitely fits the bill. I was pleased though that after their initial intimacy things didn’t get weird or stilted between them. I enjoyed this fact this had a Happy For Now ending and that both Pierce and Amee clearly found what they were each looking for, for right now.

Relatable and sexy, this short story is a great, quick read. Disconnect your brain, grab a large, cold drink and enjoy the steamy sensuality between Amee and Pierce as they each trust and reach out to grab what they both want. A fun and sexy read.
