It is here in the unnerving shadows and darkness of these woods the fight for her life begins, and one kiss will change her fate forever.

Ashtine is an orphan taken in by the Dark Blood Brotherhood and trained to be a bounty hunter; he tracks and kills rogue wolves that hunt unsuspecting mortals who dare wander into the forests. This is where he finds Maddie. With one bite, he changes the course of his destiny. With one kiss, the course of his life.

This story packs a lot of plot into its forty seven pages and the author did a great job setting, up both the characters and some of the plot in the first five pages or so.

It’s part love story, part paranormal and you feel yourself cheering for both the Maddie and Ashtine who seem perfect for one another. I think the author did a wonderful job with the setting, the forest, the woods, and this added to the storyline. While it did have some clichés, overall I think it’s a good pick for a teenager who enjoys historical paranormal stories.

I enjoyed it enough, that I’ll probably be checking out more stories in the Dark Blood Brotherhood series.

Before they can carry out their plan to run away and marry, fate intervenes, leaving Conor murdered and Maddie dead by her own hand. Their souls are cursed for eternity – with a twist. Conor will have three chances to undo the damage that was done and save them both.

At the turn of each century, on the anniversary of their deaths, Conor will take on his wolf form with one quest in mind – find Maddie and convince her to believe in once again, wherever she is and whoever she has become.

Maddie and Conor were sweethearts back in a past life in Dublin. Returning home to ask for her hand in marriage, they’re both terrified when Conor’s shapeshifting secret was discovered and a mob greeted them at her doorstep. Star-crossed, unknowing fear and an accident cuts short their potential life together. In the present day, Trinity lives out in her grandparent’s old cabin in the woods. One afternoon when she’s attacked by a bear, a silver wolf rescues her. Conor only has this one last shot to right the wrongs done to them, and he hopes to show Trinity/Maddie just how much he loves her.

A really interesting story, this is quite a different take on your average werewolf/shape changer kind of story. With a dash of angst and plenty of twists the author takes you on a wild ride full of adventure and passionate romance. The is plenty of unresolved sexual tension, but not a lot of explicit romance in this book – so those wanting to only dabble on the spicier side may find this a wonderful place to start. There were a few sub-plots that, while they felt a little tacked on, definitely added a depth and more dimension to Conor and Trinity’s reuniting. This short story was definitely a unique look on not just a tale of lovers finding their right time and place, but also the mythology of werewolves.

A fun and different read, this short story is definitely worth reading.

Andee Rivera has no idea what she’s getting into when she saves Jonah Killebrew from drowning in a chilly mountain lake. He’s badly injured–wild animal bites from the look of his wounds–and as a fledgling healer, she wants to help. But his bites are more than they seem, and all the potions and salves in the world may not be enough to save him.

Poor Andee. Can you imagine anything worse than helping a young man in trouble, finding out you’d love to have him for a boyfriend, and then discovering he’s a werewolf???

It’s hard to find stories written in the first person that read well, give you enough information and keep you from getting bored. Ms. Palmer does that very successfully in this book. Her characters evolve through the pages and the storyline has a couple of twists to it that will keep your attention and make you wonder just where she’s going with this tale. The characters are strong, have powers, use them for both good and evil, and everyone is after Andee’s boyfriend.

This story reminded me a bit of the Twilight series, however this book was better. This would be an excellent book for a reluctant reader. I started reading it and read it straight through to the finish. Even a hesitant reader would keep returning to see what’s going to happen in the next chapter.

If your child is one who might be frightened by the “magical” concepts in the book, it’s a book you most likely would enjoy reading also and you could then discuss any concerns the child might have. I imagine most would simply read the book and accept the oddities as the norm for fantasy fiction nowadays.

I really enjoyed this read, and believe (and hope!) there will be another book in the series. After all, the ending just make you want to pick up another chapter and keep going. I bet the author gives us that satisfaction soon.

Morgan Raines transferred to a new high school his senior year. Starting over doesn’t bother him, but finding his mate pinned to her locker by her Neanderthal ex-boyfriend does… From day one, Morgan and Skye are inseperable, despite the fact her ex keeps getting in the way. But will Skye’s feelings change when she realizes he turns into a panther every time the moon is full? Or can true love conquer all?

Nothing was going right in her life; Skye felt like an outcast at school and at home. Until the day Morgan Raines, the new guy at school, walks in with perfect timing and turns her life around. He saves her from her ex-boyfriend and her dad. It all seems a little too good to be true, and it’s happening so fast. Skye is afraid to share her true feelings with Morgan – she’s afraid he will be scared off by how strong her feelings are so early in their relationship. Little does she know, he is already aware, and he has a secret of his own. Will Skye be able to handle the secret? Will she be able to handle the stress from her ex-boyfriend and father?

Skye is your typical teenage girl, just trying to make it through high school so she can move out on her own. She is pretty easy to relate to and a very likable character. You find yourself rooting for her through the entire book. You also find yourself falling in love with Morgan Raines right along with Skye. There may be a few scenes in the book you will have to stop yourself from drooling.

Despite my enjoyment, I did have a few issues with this story. There were times I found it hard to believe two people could fall so hard so fast with one another. These two moved really fast for two high school kids. I also felt the characters were a little flat. I wish there had been a bit more information on who Skye and Morgan were as individuals, as well as, more time being spent on the two of them getting to know each other. The relationship was mainly hard to believe because there were more scenes of lust than love. The two were either pawing all over each other or arguing. What happened to the scenes when they went to Jo’s diner together, instead of with other people?

Aside from all of that, you want these two together. You like them as a couple, so you want them to make it through all the trouble that seems to pop up around them. The trouble never seems to quit either. Between Chris the ex-boyfriend, and Lorna her arch nemesis, trouble is brewing around every corner.

The story also sends out a positive message. Skye is having to deal with an abusive father, and an oblivious mother. Several times you want her to either call the cops, or cross your fingers a neighbor does. The whole town seems to be aware of her problem, no matter how hard she tries to hide it, yet they do nothing about it. The positive message being, you can’t just sit back and watch someone get hurt. Alcoholism is a serious disease and it needs to be addressed.

Chris is a classic ex-boyfriend, who you desperately want to turn good. No matter how annoying he is in the story you find it hard, like Skye, to dislike him. Her best friend Lindsay, seems a little less like a best friend, and more like a friend to eat lunch with. I really feel this book would have been more enjoyable if the author had delved more into the descriptions of each character. Nonetheless, I found myself wanting to finish this story.

All in all, I enjoyed reading this book. I foresee a future series with this, since there were a few areas with room to explore further. If a series did come out I would be first in line to read them. I would love to know what happens next in the life of Skye and Morgan. What is life really like for the two now that she knows he turns into a panther? Is she really okay with it? If you enjoy a fast-paced fantasy romance with two main characters hard not to love, then you need to check this out. You will probably find yourself reading this in one sitting.

When Jenny Jefferson agrees to help her sister open a B&B, she doesn’t know that Jase Edwards will be working there, too. Jenny and Jase have history–an angry encounter at her sister’s wedding four years ago. This time around their chemistry is as intense and supercharged as the lightning snaking down from the storm clouds overhead. Not even a mischievous house ghost can distract them from each other. But something far more sinister lurks in the shadows, and its eye is on Jenny. Can she and Jase unravel the mystery of the house’s tragic past before history?

Told in the first person in a comfortably conversational style, Storm Swept engages the reader immediately. Just out of school Jenny, (asthmatic) agrees to take over as cook at pregnant sister Lucy’s bed and breakfast.

She isn’t there five minutes when she meets her brother-in-law’s brother, handsome and kindly Jase. Before they have any chance to get acquainted though, a myriad of problems, from major to minor, confront them.

She doesn’t worry about any ghost, she can’t wait to start cooking in her summer chef position, and, suspiciously soon after meeting Jase Edwards , she semi-dumps the super-hot, hair-obsessed Nick. There’s no quick happy relationship for the two of them though.

First, there’s a few regrettable statements between them, then they argue over someone else’s relationship, and somewhere in there we realize these two characters are a lot alike. Both Jase and Jenny are hard-headed and stubborn, alongside being well-meaning and caring. It’s wonderful to meet two characters you thoroughly admire, even though their mutually antagonistic approach is incredibly frustrating (and also intriguing) from the romantic point of view! From that point forward you will just want to know how this all ends. We know they are both loyal… but couldn’t one of them be a bit less hard-headed? Dialogue is snappy and fun and sometimes sarcastic.

Storm Swept is a fun and lightning-fast read; the romance is wonderful and in many ways unpredictable and the house’s creepiness factor becomes more and more believable, adding to the overall suspense. Romance fans should mark this one a must-read.

Lissa has travelled to a small town in southern Georgia to complete her latest novel. Having rented an antebellum plantation for the next six months, she hopes to find the peace she needs in order to meet her deadline. However, she didn’t count on sharing her temporary home with the resident ghost.

Jesse has been dead for almost one hundred years. In all of his time on earth, both living and spectral, he has never met anyone like Lissa. If he had a heart, it would have stopped beating the moment he saw her. Why couldn’t this passionate, beautiful, talented woman have come along while he was still alive? Jesse would love nothing more than to take Lissa into his arms and kiss her senseless.

No matter how hot Jesse may be, Lissa realizes she can’t have a relationship with a ghost. During a trip to town, she meets local bank owner, Jared. The sinfully handsome banker sweeps Lissa off her feet. He claims to love her and wants her to move permanently to the small town of Maple Falls. Things heat up quickly between the two, leaving Lissa a little confused over whether its love or lust that is driving them to be together.

When Jared finds out that Lissa casts spells and frequents a magick shop will he still stand by her side? Or will the hint of scandal send him running the other way?

She’s a writer who isn’t thrilled with her size. He’s a ghost who loves her anyway. Then there’s the other he… what’s a girl to do? Use Magnolia Magick, of course.

Jessica Coulter Smith writes an intriguing novel. Her characters each have their faults yet are human (well, as human as a ghost can act). You really feel like you are there at the Pearson mansion with them. The journey they go through is one of forgiveness and the realization that you must love yourself before you can truly love another. It’s also the story of love gone overboard and sideways.

That being said, as a heroine, you can’t help but admire Lissa. She writes erotica, but isn’t a very erotic woman. She’s happy being a bit plain, but not chubby. I like that she has issues because it makes her more interesting to the reader. Then again, there is a point where her ‘woe is me’ attitude is almost a story breaker.

Jesse makes a great hero because, even though he’s a ghost, he loves her—and does nearly from the moment he meets her. He doesn’t make excuses for her size and doesn’t try to change her. I like that he kept to his 100 year old upbringing—he’s a gentleman, but even then, it gets to be a bit much because he seems almost more interested in food than her.

As the antagonist, Jared is the man you want to love and then come to hate. Although I think it came a bit late, it kept me in the story. He’s perfect—which a good villain should be.

There are a few things that hamper this story. It’s fine to see what the hero and heroine are thinking, but to change point of view mid section made it hard to follow. Minor editing foibles, such as overuse of passive voice and a great bit of telling not showing also slowed the story down.

If you want a story that will warm your heart because it shows that true love does exist, then this is the story for you. I give Magnolia Magick 3.5 cherries.

Every woman needs a hot and irresistible guy in her life. That is exactly what Sienna Blake finds in Logan Drake. In this story, Sienna has fantasized and yearned for Logan longer than she cares to admit. The need to be with him is consuming, but is too fearful to act upon her longing. After a midnight stroll and some encouragement from a good friend, that all changes.

I was looking forward to this story when I found out the heroine was full-figured. Ms. Warren didn’t disappoint. I like the way the author made Sienna a real woman with real insecurities. Logan, with his self-confidence was the perfect match for her.

The realism of the characters was attention grabbing. Sienna and Logan could easily be people you could run into on any given day. I think any person can empathize with Sienna’s qualms when it comes to believing a man as good looking as Logan can be anywhere near interested in her. The only issue I had with the story was a secondary character, Robert. I wasn’t always sure why he was brought into a scene. On occasion it felt like he might have only been used as a filler.

However, Ms. Warren did a good job with this story. I would be willing to read Sienna and Logan’s sensual tale again, and definitely recommend it to my friends.
