All the characters in A Perfect Man come with a heavy load of emotional baggage. Cecilia Dominic blends them together, much like one might take leftovers in the refrigerator to make a casserole. She mixes them, lets them heat up, bubble, and blend together to become an interesting creation.

Karen and Seth, the main characters, are both burdened down with badly damaged self-esteem. When their professor says they must collaborate to create a novella, they embark on a prickly path that threatens to do even more damage to their self-esteem.

Karen, still dealing with the aftermath of a relationship that stifled her, is now obliged to find ways to work with her professor who is a longtime friend of the narcissistic man Karen walked away from. In addition, she must work with Seth who hijacked her story. Even at coffee time, she adds more stress baggage to her emotional load. She becomes friends with two older women in the graduate program, who are struggling with their own load of emotions. Her upbeat, bubbly, psych major roommate gets her involved in a research project that brings Karen in contact with more narcissistic people, one of whom proves to be an alarming protagonist. In all the chaos, Karen must continue to deal with Seth and the characters in the developing novella.

Seth has as many, if not more, relating-to-people conflicts as Karen has. Some of his conflicts are of longer standing than hers. Consequently, the author of The Perfect Man has much to blend together. How she brings it all together, makes an unusual adventure in reading.

The writing style, with italic often used, is somewhat distracting for me. However, the overall taste of the story kept me wanting to keep reading to learn how there could possibly be a happy-ever-after come out of such a mix of characters and emotional chaos.

A worry-free life is a pre-requisite to a healthy check stock levitra prescription sexual life is nothing but resulting effect of the application of carnitine can be insignificant, or absent at all. There’s nothing like a good romance about a man who has no emotions suddenly finding himself awash in color, feeling and emotions so strong they confuse yet strengthen him. All because of one special woman.

Ms. Feehan’s Carpathian series have pretty much the same scenario. They’re based on a race that over time, without finding their one true mate, the other half to their soul, they slowly lose the ability to feel emotion or to see color or to have any interest in life at all except for duty, honor and the ingrained need to protect their race, humans and the distant hope of finding the woman who will save them. What makes each and every one unique is the heroine, the circumstances under which they meet and the dangers they must overcome in order to reach their HEA.

Ms. Feehan’s heroes are all alpha. They’re dominant, commanding and expect obedience. The fun part about that is they have to adjust when their woman ends up being a modern, independent thinker who’s been self-reliant for a long time. So, they butt heads. Aiden is a typical Carpathian male. Alexandria is a not so typical human female but independent with a strong will. Those two personality traits are going to save her life, and eventually, Aiden’s.

The story this time around has a few vampire/Carpathian conflicts to spice things up but the bulk of the plot is character driven. Alexandria just can’t accept that the life she knew is over and resents and distrusts the new way of life she now has to learn. For the most part, her concerns are valid. However, the book would have been much shorter if she didn’t have quite so many anxiety attacks after which she backslides and Aiden has to work on getting her to trust him all over again. It got a bit tedious. Also, Ms. Feehan repeats things a lot. I don’t think it’s a filler as much as it is a mantra since I’ve noticed it in her other books in the series. It’s just the way she writes about her Carpathians. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t drive me nuts, it does but I’ve read enough of them to just ignore it. It’s her style. Then again, I mention it so new readers won’t think the author is being lazy by doing that. I don’t think that’s the case at all.

I liked Alexandria’s brother, and Aiden’s housekeepers. They’re good folk who prove pivotal at certain points throughout the novel. I also liked seeing Gregori. There’s a set up here for his romance and HEA coming and that’s one romance story to look forward to. He’s so scary in this book!

Dark Gold was a good read. It’s entertaining, and highly likable. Aiden is sexy once he gets going and Alexandria is a great sister to Joshua. Aiden is very sneaky. I liked that about him. My favorite part was with the crème puffs and the bee. The heroine’s stubbornness eventually becomes an asset to the hero and the happy ever after is complete and satisfying. It’s a fascinating romance and worth recommending to other paranormal romance readers.

Princess Eleri has never seen a knight as stoic—and as eager to die—as Warren. She’d love to oblige the bastard, but something in his ocean-blue eyes stays her hand. Plus, suspicion nags at her, for the arrows that wounded him and killed his men are Norman, not Welsh.

A ghostly prophecy portends danger that thrusts the enemies closer together, where hate explodes into passion that won’t allow Eleri to surrender Warren to her vengeful clan. But returning him to his king breaks more than it mends…and for Warren, retaliation will be sweet, indeed.

Sandra Jones keeps tensions high, dangers lurking, tempers on edge, and love scenes spicy as the story makes its way to an unexpected revelation.

His Captive Princess is a vicarious journey to twelfth century Wales to travel for a short while with princess Eleri, a widow and shield maiden, at a time when she must deal with the wounded Warren de Tracy. He is a Norman, the bastard son of the now-dead King Henry. He is an out-of favor, excommunicate Templar, sent by the new King Stephen to take control of Deheubarth, now headed up by seventeen-year-old Prince Lew, the brother of Eleri’s dead husband. Moreover, Warren de Tracy is to marry the widow, Princess Eleri to bind Deheubarth to England.

Good gracious, what a tangled mess things get in as the struggle for power, peace, and personal fulfillment propels the characters along. Eleri, in her pagan belief in “the ugly woman” at the river, suffers emotional stress. She fears for the people she loves but cannot seem to protect. She is on tenterhooks just trying to deal with Prince Lew, his power-hungry cousin Vaughn, and her father, the head of the royal Aberffraw family of Gwynedd. With Warren de Tracy added to the struggles and clandestine activities galore, complications multiply. Eleri must make hard decisions. Amidst all the conflict and hate, love slips in and refuses to leave.

I really wanted more of the loose ends tied up before the story ended. But I enjoyed the short journey with Eleri and Warren de Tracy in Wales. It intrigued, whether we were in the huge, leafy trees hiding or in a fancy castle. In this harsh, bitter time when pagan and Christian ways mixed and neighbors plotted against each other, how love survives and thrives makes good reading.

Her new gift led her to Zach Slade, a sexy private investigator with a unique psychic gift of his own, and the man who’s slowly opening her heart. But as they work toward building a future together, a sinister threat emerges.

With Zach’s support she uncovers the ghost’s identity, and the ancestral weapon required to slay it. But does Clare dare to use that weapon before the ghost destroys the man she loves—and her own spirit?

Ghost Killer wastes no time in making chills run up and down a reader’s spine. The being called “The Other” not only creeps out the heroine, Clare, and the hero, Zach, but me too. In the first book it seemed omnipotent and wise. In this novel, Zach stood up to ‘it’ and wow, was that a revelation. The results of that confrontation added another layer of depth and intrigue to an already stunning and fantastical premise by the amazing Ms. Owens.

One thing I like about the Ghost Seer series is that each novel seems to have a complete resolved mystery even while the romance between Zach and Clare grows and blooms and strengthens. And, unlike regular murder mysteries, these books solve the deaths of people in the past whose ghosts want closure. Some ghosts go crazy, which is a unique concept, and become evil. Such is the case with Ghost Killer. What a reader will discover is that the title of the book is wonderfully clever and I did enjoy the insight.

Their romance goes through some growing pains in this novel. It was passionate, eye-opening and romantic. I like that the hero isn’t perfect and neither is the heroine. I liked how they both wanted to sacrifice for the other and how they handled the realization that they went about it the wrong way. Even though everything turned out alright, they couldn’t know that it would, so it was especially poignant.

I was fascinated as to how Clare doggedly pursued trying to identify the evil entity. There was a lot of drama and suspense because not only were they running out of time, the heroine was at risk of losing one of her very dear friends if she failed. Talk about pressure!

The dialogue, the descriptions of the environment, the interaction between Clare and Zach and even between Zach and Enzo were strong and well written elements throughout the entire book. In fact, I learned a bit more about Zach’s crows and I saw Zach come closer to accepting his own possible gifts and a relationship with Enzo, such as it is. There was so much going on, time passed by in a blur and I couldn’t stop reading until I got to the final wonderful, beautiful and oh, so romantic final page. My eyes got a teeny bit watery at the final paragraph.

Ghost Killer is a powerful story and a must read for fans of the series. Of the three so far, this one is the most intense because so much more was riding on Clare’s success. I’m thrilled that Zach is with her every step of the way. They are so good together and I enjoy watching them seduce each other in tiny, subtle and not so subtle ways. The plot is excellent and the romance delightful. I’m a very happy reader.

In the year 1543 of King Henry VIII’s turbulent reign, the daughter of a notorious alchemist finds herself suspected of cold-blooded murder…

Bianca can do nothing but watch in horror as her friend collapses and dies in front of her. She was a young woman in good health. Could Bianca’s herbal tea she’d shared with her be the cause?

This story is set in London in the 16th century. The author does a very good job of getting the atmosphere of the period in place. It’s not a pleasant place for those who are short on money. Those with money tend to use other people to enhance their place in society. There are those who live on the streets, those who man carts to try to earn some money, rat catchers who eat their catch, muckrakers, prostitutes, and more on these streets. When someone dies in an alchemist’s house, there’s no need to look further. Bianca is the murderer, of course.

The author has made Bianca a complicated character. She’s so into the chemistry of herbs and trying to create salves for healing that she ignores her love. She’s not politically correct, so the constable is more than willing to hang her for the murder. No one is going to save her except herself. John is willing to help, but she won’t let him. She’s going to regret that.

Trouble from the past is tied into this murder. Ms. Lawrence has done a good job of showing the underhanded dealings of the merchants as well as generally showing the nature of the folk living on the poor side of town. You can feel the darkness and hopelessness that abounds in the shadows. It’s a dangerous place at night and even in the day.

This story is not for the weak of heart. There are some ugly truths here and justice does prevail, even if it is administered by God and not by the law. Ms. Lawrence’s story will stay in my mind for a while, as I chew over the details. If you read it, you won’t forget it.

Instead of stepping her up in society, it ends, because of the Duke’s pursuit, with a step down. She turns to a relative for help…but this plan turns on her. Yet, Regina carries on with dignity, and by this point, has completely won the hearts of the readers. We are desperately hoping for the best for her, even while unable to see how ‘the best’ might possibly be attained.

However, as Regina suggests her situation is like being caught in a nightmare, we readers see that she must, somehow, see escape as possible.  And in a way, her words work…for they lead to a certain challenge as well as a level of freedom. This is unexpected, and honestly, much of the happenings from the large to the small, are unpredictable and surprising.

The duke himself, who starts off so impossibly shallow discovers… some remnant of decency, is it? Some recollection of his own childhood vision of the world? There are the ‘truly despicable’ out there and we’ll certainly get the chance to compare! To say more would be to spoil the story, but indeed, neither of our main characters are as simple as they first appear. Readers will find themselves wanting to know more – and yet more. The small surprises are a delight.

This is not fast-paced as has become so trendy of late; and it is all the better for that. Readers will find they enjoy the thoughtful reflection, as well as thorough description. It is all so much more revealing about the characters. The Duke’s Wager has heartfelt moments as well as fun, unpredictable action, all in the setting we fans of the English Historical so leave to read. Do add to your “to read” list.

The bride and groom request the presence of the bride’s sister, Delilah, proper widowed Lady Hargate, and Samuel Russell, groom’s friend, slightly improper bachelor, at their upcoming wedding. Lady Hargate and Mr Russell pretend to forget an unforgettable night in New York City. The lady plans to avoid love. The gentleman plans to change her mind.

This novel is certainly interesting as it takes place at the cusp of time when automobiles were being introduced as a potential progressive invention for the times. As with anything new, there are bumps and setbacks along the way, which goes hand in hand with the romance between Delilah and Sam. The dance of courtship is ever so complicated when one of them isn’t too keen on risk and the other thrives on it. How can the two come together? That’s the charm of The Scandalous Adventures of the Sister of the Bride.

Appearances deceive and that’s the intent of Lady Hargate. No one can know about her need and eventual fulfillment of a grand amorous adventure. It’s … unseemly. However, it helps a reader understand just how constrained and suppressed Delilah is. She is a woman mired in tradition and convention, yet deep in her heart, she yearns for the ultimate adventure, love. What stops her is fear. She has good reason to fear based upon what a reader learns of her life thus far. But then, she uses it as a crutch and it almost costs her the very thing that she wants most, Sam.

Sam is an American and the hero of the story. He’s not too flummoxed by the British way of looking at things. What confounds him the most is Delilah. She says one thing, does another, pushes him away and yet draws him like a moth to a flame. What’s a poor guy to do? Sam isn’t averse to taking risks and a reader is treated to some fascinating scenes when his attempts pay off.

What helps Sam are the secondary characters; family and friends of Delilah’s, who believe he is the best thing that could happen to the very prim and proper heroine. Based upon references and scenes sprinkled throughout this novel, it’s part of a series and since I’ve not read any others, I’m comfortable with stating this is a standalone read. I did not become lost at any point because the focus remains on Sam and Delilah’s exploits.

That being said, and while I understand Delilah’s dilemma and emotions, I felt that the story was sluggish in parts. So much time was spent on her introspection of why she could not do a certain thing or pursue Sam for a husband – it became rather tedious. Her constant harping on being ‘proper’ and putting on airs, even though it was probably how things were done back then, drove me, a 21st Century gal, absolutely barmy. When Sam called her a certain profane name at one point when their emotions were quite out of control, I wholeheartedly agreed. I grant Sam a lot of points for apologizing to her later because I would not have. Especially since the revelations about her first husband proved without a doubt that Sam would never ever be so crass as to keep secrets from her. He treated her like a person with a brain, yet she didn’t want that from a “perfect” husband? Thank goodness saner heads prevailed in this story.

Despite some lapses with Delilah’s personality issues, she had some strengths, ideas and dialogue that redeemed her. She’s going to make Sam a very happy man because she’s a very energetic wife, competitive, intelligent, witty and once she opens up to her feelings, honest. It’s the honesty and trust that will be the glue that will keep them together.

The happy ever after is satisfactory. In fact, it was Sam that saved it. I liked the outline of his presentation and the way he handled it. It was so like the hero that I laughed. He’s got her number.

The Scandalous Adventures of the Sister of the Bride, was entertaining. For historical romance fans, Delilah’s adherence to social conventions of the time might very well appeal because they’ll understand more than most how things were. And who knows, that might make the heroine come across as more deliciously wicked than I took her for. But, I liked Sam, I enjoyed the story and I’d recommend this to other historical romance readers who look for stories that take place in the latter part of the 19th Century.

This story blended romance and science fiction together seamlessly. It took a little while for the latter to show up due to other subplots that needed to be explored first, but it was well worth the wait. One of the things I enjoy about steampunk is how flexible it can be about borrowing intriguing concepts from other subgenres of science fiction, and there was definitely quite a bit of that going on here.

There was one scene in the middle of this tale that I would have liked to see addressed again in the climax. A character in it mentions something that I also wondered about as a reader. While this issue was discussed a little bit, I think it would have made more sense for it to come up again naturally later on. This is a minor criticism, but I would have easily bumped the rating up to five stars had it been mentioned at least one more time in the plot. I was otherwise thrilled with how everything was woven together.

The biggest reason why I chose such a high rating for this book was due to what happened in the last few pages. This section tied together all of the themes of the plot beautifully. I was especially moved by the imagery in the final scene, and I couldn’t have imagined a better way to end it. It was an excellent introduction to Mr. Botzenhart’s work. I’m excited to see what he’ll come up with next!

Clockwork Heart was fantastic. I’d heartily recommend it to fans of science fiction and romance alike.

Can an old vampire change his ways?

Vlad and Marion have had an interesting and antagonistic past. From the few brief glimpses I had of their time together, I got the impression that Marion has put up with an unbelievable amount of bad behavior from Vlad. He really takes her presence for granted. I honestly can’t believe she didn’t walk out on him before now. Will Vlad realize just how important Marion is to him before it’s too late?

I do wish the relationship between Marion and Vlad had been explored more. While I was able to get a fairly good sense of their personalities and their relationship, I was left wanting to know a little more about their shared past. Despite this issue, I think that Vlad and Marion make an interesting couple. Marion strikes me as a no nonsense sort of woman whose patience can only be pushed so far. Vlad seems a little arrogant and entitled, but I have a feeling that Marion knows just how to get under his skin. Her reaction to his declaration of love had me laughing out loud.

I think that the conflict between Marion and Vlad was resolved too quickly. Given the way Vlad had been behaving, I definitely think that Marion should have let him stew a while longer. This would have drawn the tension out and added just a bit more suspense to the story. As it was, everything was wrapped up very quickly and felt a little rushed.

Overall, I enjoyed reading My Fair Vampire. Marion and Vlad are fun, and their story is quick and easy to read. Anyone looking for a fast paranormal romance to fill up a few spare moments should check it out.
