But when that time had come, she’d needed to escape the farm more than to settle down. Although she’d been going to spend the night at her parent’s house, when a twister comes Callie is determined to protect the farm. Then Jake turns up, to help protect her.

This is a wonderful story about learning how to make peace with the past, but also finding the strength to reach out and take what you want. I enjoyed Callie’s conflict, her desire to not repeat past mistakes but still maintain the good parts of her memories. It took a lot of strength for her to decide to start a new life. Jake was also a seriously hunky farmer, strong, down to earth and ruggedly sexy. A real man’s man and deliciously hot. He was the perfect counterpoint for Callie and they made a brilliant team together.

This is a hot read, spicy enough to have you needing a cool glass of water, but not so racy you’ll be embarrassed to be caught reading it. Unfortunately, the man she intends to marry isn’t the only one professing his love for her. He may be able to offer her safety and security, but will she decide to risk everything for another chance with the man who broke her heart?

Shameless is a country song come to life. Sierra is tired of Trey’s drinking, his womanizing, and–when he’s not there to support her after their child dies–she stops “standing by her man.” He is devastated because, in his heart and despite all evidence to the contrary, he really does love her.

Time moves on. He keeps drinking and womanizing–to the extent that his family is worried and maneuvers a reunion. She has moved on–she’e even engaged, even though she doesn’t love her fiance in the way she still loved Trey.

I admit to struggling to admire Trey. He’s a difficult, flawed hero with great potential to be an amazing man. Sierra is a wonderful heroine: determined, smart strong. The plot wasn’t terrifically complex, but the author does a good job keeping the reader interested and invested.

Because this is a romance, after all–the story is predictable. There are highs and lows as Trey and Sierra work their way through the pain and distrust that surround them. The author did a good job of making this reader care about what happened between Trey and Sierra–and I really hoped Trey would do a complete 180 and become the man Sierra wanted him to be. Thankfully, as I said… this is a romance and so we get the necessary HEA.

I’m glad to know this is just the beginning of a series. I look forward to reading the other books in the “Nashvile Nights” series to see if some of the awesome secondary characters get their own happy ever after.

Ten-year-old Brunin FitzWarin is an awkward misfit in his own family. As an act of encouragement, his father sends him to be fostered as a knight in the household of Joscelin, Lord of Ludlow. Here he meets the lord’s youngest daughter, Hawise, and a strong friendship is formed.

When Brunin aids his lord in supporting Prince Henry in his battle against King Stephen for the English crown, his own land comes under threat. As the war for the crown and the land rages, Brunin must defeat the shadows of his childhood and put to use all he has learned, confronting his future head on.

For the reader, Shadows and Strongholds is a mindboggling sojourn in twelfth-century England with characters who struggle to hold on to their places of power and position continuously. They know the king can take it all away on a whim, so they fight his battles for him and court his favor at all cost. How love can survive, much less flourish in such an environment makes a fantastic tale. Another astonishing thing is the influence women have.

Brunin FitzWarin is told by Jascelin de Dinan, who fosters him, that he should never underestimate the influence of a woman in the scheme of things. Brunin, who’d been belittled and made to feel worthless by his grandmother Mellette, has a lot of maturing to do before he comprehends what Jascelin means. After a miserable life with his own family, Brunin finds things quite different in the de Dinan household. Love and mutual respect govern the family’s dealings with each other—a new experience for him.

As he grows from a withdrawn, quiet, fearful little boy to a knight to be reckoned with on the battlefield as well as a man able to love and be loved, the reader is immersed in the myriad of emotional and physical battles he fights to come into his own. His common sense in later years amazes considering his heritage and adversities he faced before he finds his place in the scheme of things.

The de Dinan girls Sibbi, who is older than Brunin; Hawise, the tomboy; and Marion, near Hawise’s age who was brought home by Jascelin when just a tiny traumatized waif are all a part of Brunin’s growing up years. Sibbi doctors cuts, scraps, and bruises; Hawise plays with him and challenges him in all kinds of endeavors. Marion clings and dreams of her marriage to him and builds her own warped world around that dream.

Many of the secondary characters touch Brunin’s life; but his arch enemies are Gilbert de Lacy and de Lacy’s knight Ernalt de Lyle. These two along with Brunin’s grandmother prove to be characters one can grow to hate. Their pride, arrogance, lack of consideration for others is appalling. One can almost feel the maliciousness emanating from them.

Elizabeth Chadwick does a phenomenal job of making characters seem real, of weaving a plot that ebbs, flows, and even runs wild at times. She does a magnificent job of pulling the reader into the historical time and engages all the senses to make situations throb with life. The love stories keep the reader on tenterhooks much of the time. How love survives in such harsh times leads on to believe that love is truly the greatest of all emotions. Pride deals it some bruising blows and circumstances threaten to bludgeon it to death, but it abides in a secret place not to be denied.

Ms. Chadwick in her unique style weaves a plot together with bloody battles, clandestine alliances, and struggles for power, pride of possessions, hatefulness, haughtiness, and downright evil, cruel deeds. Yet, she never lets the reader forget about the steadfastness of true love and the strength it gives even in the darkest of times. Shadows and Strongholds is and exquisitely written, compelling tale—a keeper to be enjoyed more than one time.

Big-city lawyer Michaela Dunn stepped in to give her aunt & uncle a break from their bed-and-breakfast lodge in the wilds of northern New Brunswick, but the neighborhood bully from her schooldays taunts and torments her and wants to put the lodge out of business. What is she to do? Rescue comes in a strange form when a ghostly apparition points a finger.

Travis MacDonald wants only to find peace away from city life, secluded in his cabin, checking trap lines, mushing his dogsled to and from town for supplies. Finding a damsel in distress on the trail isn’t on his list. Neither is being arrested for murder.

Undeniable attraction has Michaela and Travis working together to solve the mystery, hampered by lies, jealousy, and someone who would kill again to keep them quiet.

Set in the backwoods of New Brunswick, Canada, Ms. MacMillan gives us a taste of the more primitive side of the Canadian wilderness. With the preservation of the wilderness areas being a big focus of this book, we get to see the beauty of the wild through the author’s eyes and her love of her native land.

There are many men who have used this medicine for proper directions to cialis tab avoid complications. Sexual function usually works better under the viagra professional uk relaxation mode. Michaela was a fantastic character. She is a woman that can go from country girl to city girl and be competent in both, but at the same time, is the epitome of the old saying “you can take the girl from the country, but you can’t take the country from the girl”. Even though she has moved to the city and worked to become the person that her parents want her to be, her heart is still back at Promise Lodge in the wilderness of New Brunswick. After taking over the running of the lodge for a few weeks, she realizes that she still belongs there and not in the city.

And then there is the tall, dark and mysterious Travis MacDonald. He is a (recently) local resident of the area and has developed a reputation as a hermit. Thrown together by circumstance, Michaela suddenly has the opportunity to get to know him. Sparks fly, much to chagrin of both of them, which makes for some great sexual tension.

Ralph Frame is perfect as the villain that you love to hate, along with his buddy, Andy. Andy had some mildly redeeming qualities, but as much as I wanted to feel sorry for him, I just never quite got there. Michaela’s best friend, Karen, is an interesting character, as a female Ranger. I would have liked to see more of her. In fact, her character had enough potential that she could probably carry her own story quite well. And the mystery keeps you guessing. I’m usually pretty good at guessing “whodunit” in books or movies, but this one surprised me.

While the parts with the ghost add a bit more mysticism to the story, it seems really unnecessary. Those parts could be completely taken out of the story and it wouldn’t change the plot at all. I wish there would have been a little bit more to that aspect of the story or that it had been left out entirely.

I loved that there was a sled dog team. I’ve owned and raised Siberian Huskies my entire life (the original sled dog) and have owned a couple of Malamutes along the way, so it was a lot of fun for me to read about the dogs. I was a little concerned that she showed a dog eating chocolate in the book and portrayed it as a treat, because chocolate can kill dogs. I wouldn’t want any new dog owners to get ideas dangerous to their pets but portraying the dog as a kleptomaniac was funny.

Entertaining and well written, this book kept me equally trying to figure the mystery out, loving the tension between Michaela and Travis, and laughing at the antics of the dogs, with a very satisfying ending. Ghost of Winters Past is definitely worth checking out if you are in the mood for a suspenseful read with some romance along the way.

It’s the same kind of small town where everybody knows everyone else’s secrets and friendships are for a lifetime. She also peppers the story with some real live characters.

She gives you Violet, who runs the Jalapeno society with an iron hand. She also gives you Agnes, who comes over with a shotgun to save Trixie from a man who was assaulting her. The fact that it was her ex-husband who was over for a little Wednesday night rendezvous didn’t matter to Agnes. Then there’s the fact that Cathy finds herself marrying a nice steady man (Violet’s son) and Violet wants to run her the way she does the society.

I found all of Ms. Brown’s characters heartwarming and fun to read about. They’re all endearing in some form even if it’s just easy to hate them. She forms a central friendship between four young women that is believable and amusing. They get in trouble a lot and don’t seem to worry about it much. Independent women characters have always appealed to me. Even those who aren’t good at being independent and making their choices find out how to do that before the book ends.

I had so much fun reading this story, I’d enjoy seeing these characters in another book. Their story isn’t done yet. And love is still very confusing.

V is for VampWoman by Kerrelyn Sparks

In the first few paragraphs there is this one sentence about the hero, Mikhail. “…one thing Mikhail valued, it was a life free from limitations.” That is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Her entrance is a hoot but the hero’s response to her was the tip of the iceberg. What comes after is a courtship mixed with action and a bit of soul searching.

In this short story, I was able to immerse myself in the fun world that Ms. Sparks has built while getting to see another terrific happily ever after come together in a fast but believable rate. It was completely entertaining. Lest a fan lament that the author wouldn’t be able to get in a few of her famous quips, she skillfully wove in a little gem. I enjoy Monty Python and this reference was cute in the movie but I loved how Ms. Sparks used the Holy Grenade of Antioch because it cracked me up on a whole new level. I never know when this author is going to pull a funny, and she’s so good at it too!!

A Forever Love by Pamela Palmer

This was a bittersweet happy sort of paranormal story with hope and tears. The author plunks a reader down into a most heartfelt and sad moment in the heroine’s life. She’s alone, lonely and missing the one man who makes her complete. Except, all is not as it appears. It’s only when she disappears that all becomes clear, sort of. Elizabeth, the heroine, finds out that Lukas, her beloved, has a violent side to him. Her initial shock was only the first of many reactions the heroine had to navigate as she discovered how very different her man, and her world, is from what she knew. She had to make some decisions, some emotional, very fast because this wasn’t a slow moving short story. It was over before I was ready for it to be done but the ground it covered was fascinating. Some anthologies manage to introduce readers to a new world they didn’t know was out there. That’s what happened to me with reading A Forever Love. It ends with a happy for now with the high potential to be so much more and I believe I’m going to have to buy the next story that picks up where this one leaves off. Elizabeth and Lukas’s story was engrossing and I know there is tons more that has to go on before they get their full happy ever after. As it was, for what I was given, this one was a very good read.

First Dates Are Hell (A Those Who Wander Story) by Amanda Arista

This story was cool. It has action, it was exciting, different, and is a crazy way to start an HEA.

Valiance is a man who gave up all he knew to back Violet, the new Prima. I love the Wanderers series so this was a treat for me to read. Valiance was a mystery to me before now. I almost wish his story could have been longer but he certainly was a character that deserved something good to happen to him. Odd that it took an invisible girl to make the hero see his true worth and make him believe that he had the right to be happy too. I mean, seriously, the most exciting action in his life at this current juncture was his shopping trip to buy sheets. Sounds so ordinary, right? Why is a man of action, a hero and wiz with swords doing something so boring? Love comes to those who aren’t looking, sometimes in the oddest of places – think Bed, Bath and Beyond. I think this story comes under the heading of ‘beyond’.

Even though this story is solidly focused on Valiance and Esme, the unlikely heroine, it was nice to be reminded why I liked Violet, the Prima, in the first place. It was her story that got the series rolling and it’s been a wonderful trip so far. This story is barely an appetizer of the whole scope of richness that Ms. Arista plays with in her bigger books. But, a reader catches a good glimpse of the kind of story telling this author is capable of. I wasn’t disappointed. I totally enjoyed this short and I recommend it highly.

I have a whole new view of Mar-people (read: mermaid type folk) after reading this story. In fact, it’s almost as though the author mixed up two favorite genres and morphed them into one. It’s sort of freaky and unique. The Mar came across as inherently violent and callous. Stellan, the hero, obviously isn’t like his sister, Salila, and for that I was thankful. The sister made an effective villainess but the author also threw in a teaser that maybe she wasn’t always so twisted, and maybe in some future book, could be saved. At this point, I didn’t care for her, which was a great asset to the plot conflict.

Angelina is the human who has captured Stellan’s heart but dating a human comes with pitfalls as this story reveals. She’s a sweet lady but a bit of a rebel. Her openness and willingness to trust made their fast and furious courtship believable. The reason for the natural catastrophe that occurred was a nice paranormal twist to history. That impressed me.

What I found the most unique were the steps that had to be taken to make a human change into a water breather. That was a first for me and I applaud the originality of it. The duration made me sad because I understood the enormity of what Angelina was giving up but the hope for a happy ever after was worth the cost.

Blood and Water wasn’t a comfortable read for me because of what seems to be the inherent nature of the Mar but I cannot deny that this was a well told story with fascinating undercurrents. Excuse the pun. I just might look into more of this world that Ms. Falconer has created, it has the potential to be a new favorite series.

On the whole, Vampires Gone Wild is a wonderful montage of paranormal treats for old and new fans of these authors. All four stories are well written with tightly woven little plot conflicts that kept the reading pace intense and entertaining. These authors have infused these tasty niblets with the very essence that obviously makes their bigger novels such successes. I highly recommend this book to all paranormal romance fans. It’s a winner.

I love this line because now there are the books that go above and beyond my favorite doctor dramas on television.

Both authors have a very descriptive style. Both are distinctive. I blew through this pair of stories in a matter of a couple hours. Couldn’t put them down.

First, let me talk about Breaking the Playboy’s Rules. Harry is a piece of work. He’s all about bucking tradition, even when it’s planning and tradition that he craves. He’s got swagger and charisma. Loved reading about him and seeing him bumble with flair through life to find what he wanted.

Emma was easy to relate to. I’m not a nursing type. I can’t stand blood, so I give her all the props in the world. I liked how she succumbed to Harry, but I also liked the reality of her situation. She’s torn. Fall for the playboy or chase her own dream–whatever that dream happens to be. It’s a great story and I’m glad I got to read it.

Now, there’s also Hot-Shot Doc Comes to Town in this pairing. Susan Carlisle delivers a strong story in this one and again, I cheered for these two. I liked Taylor and Shelby. They are so easy to relate to. Both have sworn off love and want their careers to blossom. Neither character is perfect and maybe that’s what drew me to them the most. They’ve got idiosyncrasies that make them human. This story also reminded me a lot of Doc Hollywood. He’s hot and ready to move up, but there she is seemingly holding him back. But whose to say holding back is giving up? You’ll have to read to find out.

Do you want a great set of stories guaranteed to make you smile? Then these are the books for you.
