Madison Price is new to town, trying to build a life for herself as the Head Chef at Earl’s Diner. Needing to move into a second new home before she was ever fully settled was just a small setback – a positive one, if her gorgeous new landlord was any indication. But she and Nate came from entirely different worlds, so she resolved to keep her distance.

Nate Hawke was immediately smitten with his new renter. There was really only one problem: his family was still being targeted by an unknown, lightning powered enemy. Getting close to her would only endanger her; or so he thought before his enemy went ahead and burned Earl’s Diner to the ground anyway.

Now the chemistry between them is pulling them together, and Madison finds her biggest hang up has nothing to do with the fact that her new boyfriend can fly. She’s afraid they’re incompatible, and she’s more afraid that he won’t live long enough to prove her wrong.

Nate wants to keep his distance for Madison’s safety, but is she already a target?

Because it’s so competitive, it is hard to narrate all the benefits of whitening order viagra cheap injections. If you are not familiar with cialis sale https://www.unica-web.com/archive/2013/competition/films2013.html erectile dysfunction, it is because of some certain reasons. Here is a look at some of the reasons why men neglect to satisfy her on the cialis 20mg no prescription https://unica-web.com/HONORARY-MEDALS/2014/simeon-simeonov-en.html bed. When Madison rented Nate’s guest house, she had no idea she was stepping into the middle of an ancient feud. Before she knows it, she finds herself the target of a lightning powered foe determined to make Nate, his family, and everyone they care about suffer. Nate never would have rented his house to Madison if he thought she’d be in danger, but now that she’s moved in, he can’t turn her away. Nate is determined to keep an eye on Madison, but can he really protect her from an enemy who doesn’t fight fair?

Madison’s warm and caring personality make it very easy to like her. She’s the kind of woman who reaches out to others when they are hurting. Madison has definitely had some hard times in her past, making it easy to empathize with others going through their own rough patches. Madison also has quite a bit of spunk about her. When she discovers the truth about Nate and the enemy family, she proves she’s no damsel in distress. She takes a few unnecessary risks that had me shaking my head, but Madison does prove to be quite capable of defending herself in a pinch. I found her use of a fire extinguisher particularly entertaining.

Nate is generally an easy going guy, but the thought of Madison being in danger has him all riled up. She works her way into his heart before he even realizes what is happening. At first, Madison and Nate think dating is a bad idea, especially with an enemy lurking in the shadows waiting to exploit any weakness in the Hawke family. However, Madison and Nate can’t fight their mutual attraction for long. I applaud their decision to move forward with their relationship. Not letting their enemy steal all the joy from their lives is a big victory in my opinion.

In the first book of the series, Deep Waters, very little is known about the enemy family, but I strongly suspected one of the secondary characters of being up to no good. My suspicions were proven true. Unfortunately, another character was not who they seemed and the betrayal rocks one of members of the Hawke family to their core.

Now that all the enemies have been revealed, I have questions about why this family is going after the Hawke family now. The lightning powered family could have attacked at any time, so why now? Are these families the only ones of their kind in existence now? Does the lightening family view this as some sort of final battle? I hope to find answers to my questions in other installments of the series.

Ms. Wulf crafted a very intense fight scene between the two opposing families near the end of the book that gave me goose bumps. Nate and his brothers have no experience with fighting, so I had no idea how it would turn out. Fortunately, the Hawke brothers are very smart and they come up with an excellent strategy before they engage their enemy. I enjoyed watching each brother wield their individual powers. They even manage to turn their enemy’s powers against them, but will it be enough? Will Nate and his family come out of the fight unscathed?

Blown Away is a great addition to Ms. Wulf’s Elemental series. Madison and Nate’s story is fun and fast paced with just a dash of suspense. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

A love too strong to let go…
Aspiring singer Sophie Tresilian had the world at her feet—fame, fortune, and true love—until the man of her dreams broke her heart. Now she’s the toast of Europe, desired by countless men but unwilling to commit to any of them. Then Robin Pendarvis walks back into her life…

Four years ago, Robin had hoped to make Sophie his bride, but secrets from his past forced him to let her go. Seeing her again revives all the old pain—and all the old passion. It might be against every rule, but somehow, some way, he will bring them together again

Innocent, beautiful, bubbly Sophie Tresilian with the spellbinding soprano voice and older, mysterious Robin Pendarvis see each other at her seventeenth birthday party. Like the moon draws the tide, Sophie is drawn to Robin. Their lives are changed forever. A precious love, like a tiny seed, begins to grow, pure, sweet, and caring with an easy-going companionship. For two years it is protected and celebrated with joy; then it must hibernate to give way to old responsibilities. They must part. Doing the ‘right’ thing as duty and honor demand is cold comfort for two broken hearts. Sophie is a true Tresilian and Tresilians, like swans, mate for life.
What are the levitra order prescription safety sign? Teenagers, children & female should completely say no to this anti-impotence pill. Four years later Sophie is a successful opera singer with her concerts always sold out. Her voice is even more hauntingly compelling after her training at the Royal College of Music. She is a strong, independent woman with a heart that longs for its one true love. She lives alone with her cat Tatiana and rarely goes home to her beloved Cornwall. Robin and his wife Natalie and the two children live in the prosperous Pendarvis Hall hotel that Sophie had so much influence in refurbishing. But life is never static and, even though hope is a dangerous emotional, it refuses to die.

Though nine years her senior, Robin cannot deny the desire, attraction, and pleasure he feels for Sophie. Her companionship is a balm to his weary soul. She is no gauche, awkward girl, but a graceful, happy young woman comfortable in her own skin and wise beyond her years. He is a flawed but honorable man and gives her up when Natalie, his wife, who ran away many years ago arrives with two children. When Natalie’s unfaithful ways push him past his limit, his actions set off a chain of events that propel the reader into suspense, mystery, and the tentative, uneasy meeting with the famous Sophie—not daring to hope but hoping anyway for what they once had. Theirs is a love story to savor, not to be rushed through.

Some of the secondary characters I had met in a previous novel of Ms. Sherwood’s and it was delightful to see how their lives were unfolding. Sir Lucas Nankivell was new to me and seemed to have not a single redeeming quality. There are Lord and Lady Daventry with the cowed niece Marianne they did not know. The overbearing Lady Daventry with her hateful, condescending manner added a new diminish to the unfolding of the plot. The beautiful, French Natalie, seemingly with no conscience stirs the ire of many yet never yields her position of power.

Pamela Sherwood weaves beautiful, enchanting music into the story that augments the specialness of love. Her writing is rather lyrical itself, smooth to read and swept along with. She slips the reader into the time and location with remarkable description. She also weaves in the many creature comforts that began to be enjoyed in the late Victorian Age. Things like indoor plumbing, electricity, and ice tea for example. Moreover, she used a thread so bright and compelling to weave in a new awareness of the emergence of more self-actualized women. They were gaining more freedom and were being treated like intelligent individuals rather than like property to be used by their families’ or husbands’ as they saw fit.

A Song at Twilight is a tribute to love that is long-suffering and patient yet joyous, giving, and looking to the future when the conflicts and obstacles get shoveled out of the way. I did so enjoy the songs and quotes that celebrate love through the ages. A delightful book to wind down the day with.

They never thought their toughest mission would be falling in love…

Lola LaRue, chief warrant officer of the U.S. Army’s secret helicopter regiment, is a natural at everything except relationships. She’s a professional in the air, but she screws up every time she touches the ground. Sergeant “Crazy” Tim Maloney is a goner the moment he first sees LaRue on a mission to deliver a Delta Force team into the Iranian desert. He’s always been a love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of guy, but all that changes when Lola’s in danger. Now with the stakes higher than ever, they must find a way to eliminate a threat that could destroy more than just their future.

The author disappears and the super-charged action and characters take over sweeping the reader into an adrenaline-high experience. The military action, the pheromone charged aura around Crazy Tim Maloney and Lola LaRue, and the interaction among the crew members of the night stalkers helicopters, Viper and Vengeance make Take Over at Midnight a page turning adventure.

If you’ve read other night stalker novels, you will recognize some of the characters, but Take Over at Midnight stands alone perfectly. It is Tim and Lola’s story that evolves among all the scary missions and close calls that make the heart jump up into the throat.

Principally, it answers a number canadian cialis of sexual problems.1. Chief Warrant Lola LaRue is new. She’s the fourth woman to qualify for SOAR and will co-pilot with Major Emily Beale, ace pilot for Vengeance, the companion to Viper flown by her husband Major Mark Henderson. Deep-down Lola feels like a fraud in this elite group, but she worked damned hard to get here and sets her sights on staying even if Crew Chief Kee Stevenson, once a tough street kid, does call her a fraud (it takes one to know one). Lola knows 9/11 changed her life as if she were reborn that day.

When Crew Chief Tim Maloney sees the Creole beauty with the thick, dark chestnut hair, and legs that go on forever, he is a goner. The fact that she is an officer and he is not doesn’t deter him or her. The reader gets to see the blooming of a love that is long-suffering and patient when fears of self-worth lobs in obstacles. But love wiggles its way through and sizzling, super-charged emotional and physical energy create breathtaking love scenes.

M. L. Buchman makes the military action, the urgency of the missions, and the locations so real the reader can almost taste the dust of the salt pan in Afghanistan and feel the blazing heat that sucks the moisture out of the body. The moments when success or failure hangs in the balance and kill or be killed action demands the best efforts of the best, the adrenaline pumps at breakneck speed and sends the heart racing. Whether in the Middle East or in the Gulf of Mexico (Lola’s old hunting ground) the action is always on the edge. In the Gulf of Mexico, the line where war ends and murder begins is compelling.

The scenes in Washing D. C. reveal different facets of these mighty night stalkers called “Black Adders”. Tim’s back story and his family, the President, his strategies, and his unceasing verbal battles to keep the country safe add depth to the humanness of the SOAR team. Seriousness and humor twine through events that give the reader food for thought. Amid it all, one learns that the real motivation for all the characters, from President to the new co-pilot Lola, is to keep the U.S.A. safe.

M. L. Buchman’s writing is so realistic that one almost forgets it’s fiction. The imagery, the ‘so-human’ characters, the events so like the latest news, and the magnificence of people when they rise to be their best for a cause they are willing to die for make Take Over at Midnight riveting.

Krysta is used to getting the drop on vampires. Her “special abilities” aren’t much, but the plan is simple–she plays helpless pretty young thing to lure them in. Then her shoto swords come out and it’s bye-bye, bloodsucker. Until one night she finds herself with an unexpected ally. He’s a vampire, all right, but different. Mysterious. Handsome. And more interested in saving her skin than draining it.

ȴienne has been an Immortal Guardian for two hundred years–long enough to know that Krysta is special. He can’t stop thinking about her long legs, even more than her short swords. Then he discovers the vamps she’s exterminating have friends in high places, and the Guardians are in danger too. He’ll have to accept Krysta’s help to save them. The stakes for a mortal are high. But the cost to his heart might be higher. . .

If ever there was a book to get excited about and be filled with giddy anticipation as soon as I got my hands on it, I believe Darkness Rises is that novel. I simply couldn’t wait to get started because the last book was amazing and set the bar pretty high. I had great expectations for this new addition to Ms. Duvall’s unique world and I am thrilled to say it has not disappointed. By the time I was almost through the first chapter, my normal everyday human world faded away to be replaced by the amazing one created by Ms. Duvall.

Every chapter seduced me deeper and deeper into the mystery of why my favorite characters were being attacked, again, and who could possibly be the mastermind this time? How were Krysta’s and Étienne’s romance and relationship going to survive and grow amidst all the threats and assaults and divisions of attention? Who is that hunky mysterious guy who fascinated me and ensnared my sympathies? Where is the villain hiding this time? So many questions, so many adventures and all of it found within one book. What a wild ride!

Étienne and Krysta were a fun couple to get to know. The author created a very intriguing way to introduce them to each other and I think that was one of the reasons why I was hooked early on in the book. The heroine isn’t a damsel in distress; she is smart, lethal, determined and impassioned. She has unusual talents that have kept her alive but unless something changes, it’s going to kill her. And that is where Étienne comes in and when the excitement begins.

The dialogue, both spoken and internal, is very important in this story because it provides fast plot movement when needed as well as giving a reader the inside track on both of the main characters. There is a head hop here and there and it’s well placed. In fact it plays a key role when it comes to Zach.

In Zach’s POV I was given suspenseful teasers that I strongly believe foreshadow a bigger event in a future book. As it is, in Darkness Rises he’s a secondary character and an asset to this novel. He provides humor, clues, drama and even comes across as a bit of a tragic character. Compared to the rest of the characters in the book, I’m probably the only person that feels that way.

Other secondary characters interact with or guide, tease, help or come to Étienne and Krysta’s aid numerous times and in varied ways throughout the story. With all that going on, it sounds confusing but Ms. Duval kept a tight rein on all of the people that populate her world. The folks that I met in previous books don’t fade away but are integral to this current adventure but neither do they undermine a reader’s focus on the hero and heroine. There is never a doubt that Étienne and Krysta are falling in love and that it’s their story that is center stage.

Seth’s comments and reaction to their romance made me laugh. In fact there are healthy doses of humor, clever quips and comedic exchanges not only between the hero and heroine, but the heroine’s brother and other key players throughout the novel. It’s one of the reasons I like this series so much – they seem real.

I was also pleased when the loving transferred to energetic sheet action. It was just right and very well written. I had no complaints. It was seductive, erotic at times and the author always made sure that a reader knew the hero and heroine’s love was growing stronger through each encounter.

The actions scenes were tight and well written. This novel has a heavy dose of suspense, action, thrills, sword fights, guns and plenty of bad vampires meeting their end. Every now and again, I noticed the author would state something as a narrator would but that didn’t bother me. Sometimes a fact is a fact and doesn’t need to be embellished by fluff to get the point across.

All in all, I’m a very happy reader. Darkness Rises has more then met my expectations. This is a thrill ride from beginning to end and not to be missed. The novel is rich with story, plot, drama and strong characterizations. In fact, there are so many more juicy details in this book that I could not fit them all into this tiny review. Darkness Rises meets all my ‘must haves’ of an awesome read. It has a wonderful and fulfilling HEA that was top notch. Not only that, but there is a huge surprise at the end. Not just for a reader but for Krysta and Étienne as well. It made me laugh out loud and I wanted to high five Ms. Duval for writing such a clever and cute scene. It made the happy ever after extra special and had me turning the last page with a huge grin on my face. I am wowed.

Claire McMullen is just an ordinary woman — until you look at her long, beautiful bright-red hair. She has a job she hates, a roommate she tolerates, and she spends her weekend nights bar-hopping, looking for her “Mr. Right.” One cold, rainy night she meets Samael — tall, dark, handsome and rich — and a romance blossoms. Claire thinks she may have found her soulmate — until Samael informs Claire that he’s actually a demon.

Can Claire trust a demon’s claims of true love—or is he just plotting after her immortal soul? Can a demon even feel true love, and if so…

What are the consequences of such a love for both Hell and Heaven?

But the healing prices viagra generic factor in our body ensures that our body recovers gradually. If this book taught me nothing else, it is that a demon’s tail can be used for much more than just an ornament.

Claire went out for a relaxing evening with her roommate Sally and instead she found a lifetime worth of excitement and fear. Claire is someone that any woman can imagine themselves being. She is hard working, and just trying to survive the best way she knows how. Then Samael inserts himself into her life, and changes everything she knows and held close to her heart.

One aspect of the story I had a difficult time wrapping my mind around was Claire’s willingness to accept Samael into her life so easily as well as her easy acceptance of his being a demon. I understand the hero worship syndrome many woman experience and that was the only reasoning I could use to help me understand why it seems like Samael become the most important person or thing in Claire’s life overnight, even more than her longtime relationships such as with her roommate. While this I could at least somewhat understand, I just felt it was completely unbelievable she would except his being a demon so easily, especially because he doesn’t even try to explain or justify what he is. Claire seems to be a bright and intelligent woman who just would not be so easily accepting and manipulated.

The added danger that Samael either directly or indirectly adds to Claire’s life was a large selling point for me. I enjoyed that she had to learn to question everything and everyone around her just because she chose to be with this man. Especially when she has to question reality. It added a air of danger and excitement that made me want to learn more, and wonder would she survive her love for Samael.

The reading of this story was very easy and smooth, but sometimes I questioned whether it was for adults or young adults.  Certainly, the sexual scenes in the story were for adult readers, but other areas seemed a bit juvenile, like when Claire walked home in the rain with an injury, just because she was disappointed. It made me questions how old Claire really was, because she came across fairly immature.

I really enjoyed Samael’s transformation throughout the story. Part of what makes demons who they are is their inability to grow emotionally and deeply care for others. Samael does this in strides, which I found refreshing. He is clearly a different demon by the end of the story. I just could not get enough of his internal growth and would love to have learned more.

She’s caught between a rake and certain ruin…

Felicity Worthington’s only hope of avoiding poverty—or worse—is to accept her distant cousin’s dubious bequest… a thriving, high-class brothel. Felicity has 90 days to convince her cousin’s solicitors that Gareth Alexander has taught her the art of pleasing a man, though she’s more interested in the gentleman she glimpses beneath Gareth’s debauched airs, than in the rake he’s become.

In the business of love…How much should he teach her?

Gareth Alexander, Marquis of Heathgate, has little incentive to help a spinster learn to manage a brothel—except that the alternatives for the prim, pretty Miss Worthington are even worse. His resistance to teaching Felicity how to be a madam leaves Gareth wondering if the honor he’d thought long dead still survives, and if that honor allows him to yield to the lady’s ruinous scheme… and to their shared desires.

Gareth is sizzling sexy with an undercurrent of mystery/suspense and a sense of evil close by ready to pounce at any moment. Yet, there is a subtle humor that threads through it adding pure pleasure to the read. The romance both naughty and overwhelmingly sweet takes one’s breath away. The hands-on teaching of ‘how-to’ is graphic, the antagonist is perfect to despise, the mystery is riveting and the characters in their predicaments grab a reader’s attention and sweep her into a captivating Regency romance that is a page-turner.

His touch to self-declared spinster Felicity Worthington is an ‘oh-my-goodness’ thing that sets her on a new course in life.

Felicity makes a choice that she is sure will be her ruin but hopefully not until she can assure a good future for her seventeen-year-old sister Astrid and the Worthington household. Left with a rundown house and dwindling funds at the death of their father, the two young women are at a crossroads in their lives.

When Felicity inherits a prosperous brothel from a distant cousin, she must make life altering decisions concerning the terms in the will. She puts on her big girl panties (so to speak) and steps into a world totally foreign to her. Propriety is not a luxury she can afford. She goes alone to see the marquee of Heathgate who is mentioned in the terms of the will.

The arrogant Gareth, because of that smidge of goodness he hasn’t quelled, is captivated by the virtuous, helpless, poorly dressed young woman with amber eyes, a lovely face and candlelight voice. She is intelligent, alert, and pragmatic about her plight. How can he refuse to help her? It would be like throwing her to the wolves. He cannot—thus begins one of the most emotionally fraught how-to training courses one could ever hope to experience, vicariously or otherwise.

The secondary characters like David Holbrook who seems to have no past; the horrible Riverton that could have been Felicity’s tutor; Andrew, Gareth’s younger brother, and Astrid who so often speaks or acts before she thinks, along with a few others propel events along at such a pace it is difficult to put the book down.

Grace Burrowes does not stint in letting the reader have a memorable vicarious experience with Gareth and Felicity as he teaches her all she needs to know about the brothel business. How she creates the metamorphosis for these two unique characters is compelling. She brings to life the characters as flaws, foibles, virtuous, fears, hopes, and courage blend to make them seem so human. Her plots with their suspense, mystery and phenomenal love scenes engage the senses luring one into the action that gives the reader’s emotions a roller-coaster ride from heat-in-the-throat fear to heart-melting love scenes that are unforgettable. In Gareth, the miracle of love and the magic of Grace Burrowes’ writing come together to create an escape into the Regency world where romance finds a way against tremendous odds. Super good reading!

I’m a sucker for a small town romance and author Lily Santana has done a bang-up job with all the things that make these types of stories so rich.

She’s struggling to let go of her husband (still has his things, for instance, and really hasn’t jumped back into the dating pool). Everyone is trying to “help” from her daughter to the rest of the town, while also reminding her what a great guy her late husband was. Too bad they don’t know how badly in debt he left his wife and daughter!

Emma was a character I was really ambivalent about. I felt how real she was, and how very emotional. But there was the problem: she was frequently over-the-top emotional, given to yelling, impetuous actions, jumping to conclusions and the occasional tantrum. It made it difficult for me to really like her because I spent much of the book wanting to shake some sense into her. She loves and hates in huge amounts and it must be exhausting to be her.

Our hero, Mitch, was a bit more settled, at least on the outside. Oh, he feels some exceptionally strong emotions in the story, but manages to keep them mostly under control. I liked Mitch and that may have been a reason I wasn’t as fond of Emma (at least in the beginning) as I wanted to be. Because she did NOT like him, and went out of her way to make sure no one liked the man.

I loved the secondary characters, even the ones I didn’t like so well. The author really has a handle on the small town feel, the busy-bodies, the way everyone is in everyone else’s business. This is what really made the story for me. It’s everything I look for in a romance like this.

Honestly, I really admired the author’s overall skill. Her writing is clear and descriptive. I could see the town, the buildings, the scenery and the characters were all unique and three-dimensional. If not for the difficulty I had warming up to Emma, this would have been a much higher rated story. I have the very talented Lily Santana on my watch list and will absolutely check out whatever she releases next.

It’s a risk of a lifetime loving a man you’re supposed to hate…

Betrayed by a brother she hardly trusted before the bloodthirsty Viking, Jarl Randvior Sigurdsson, attacks her home, Noelle Sinclair is conveniently bartered as a means to save her cowardly sibling’s skin. Forced to leave her homeland and accompany the petulant Viking to the untamed wilderness of central Norway, Noelle is ever-aware of the burgeoning dangers around her—including her weakening resolve to resist Randvior.

Blind Allegiance is a historical novel set in an era I’m not very familiar with– the time of the Vikings. The romance is between Randvior Sigurdsson, a Viking chief and worshiper of Odin, and the devoutly Christian Britain, Noelle. Bartered to him by her brother as payment for leaving the family home intact, Noelle is repulsed, while at the same time, intrigued and attracted to Randivior.

The storyline, especially after the couple is on the ship heading back to Norway, moves smoothly. The beginning of the book was a little confusing as we are set right down in the middle of the action and it took me a little while to know what was going on.

The book also read more like a more modern historical romance instead of being set as far back in time as it was. While the story was interesting and I really liked the characters, I never had the feeling that I was actually in the 11th century.

However, the characters more than made up for that–Randivior is a man of honor who, having seen Noelle in a vision sent from Father Odin, is sure she’s his fate. So, he sets about to make that happen. The interaction between him and Noelle as they move from enemies to being physically lovers and then to falling in love is interesting. Noelle is seduced into a physical relationship, but still keeps a part of herself back–and that’s the part Randivior wants to claim. Unfortunately, his mother doesn’t make it easy on them.

Overall, it was refreshing to read a historical romance outside the norm. Even better, this is the first of a series, and I’m looking forward to the next books.

An enigmatic woman, a determined spy, and a design that could shake the foundations of Europe…

“Heartless” Cordelia Bering refuses every marriage offer she receives. Yet men still try to win her, drawn by her sharp wit and intoxicating green eyes. But Cordelia knows a marriage could reveal her deepest secret and truly endanger her life. Besides, she hasn’t met a man worth considering, until…

Sebastien Thorne, a spy in the service of Crown. One of the elite agents in the group known as the Zodiac, he comes to London determined to solve a mystery with roots on the Continent. He won’t let anything distract him. But is Cordelia a distraction, or the key to the mystery? As he learns more about the “heartless” woman, he becomes embroiled in secrets, plots, and a design that could change the future…and Cordelia is at the center of it all.

A HEARTLESS DESIGN is the first book in the Secrets of the Zodiac, a series that blends the sensibilities of modern romantic suspense with the rich background of the Regency period.

In true classic style, A Heartless Design delivers the romance-lovers favorites: an evocative love story in an historic setting.
Characters are wonderful. Cordelia is utterly believable as a woman of her times, with a little gift (for engineering) that sets her apart. It doesn’t do to be set apart at such times; women were meant to keep to their place. Her skill and her age means she is an unlikely heroine for a romance. She has also (*gasp*) chosen not to marry, leaving her quite out of the marriage market.

However, she captures our sympathy at once, as her kindness is evident from the first.

Ms. Cole ascertains that her heroine meets the gold standard of romance in the looks department – but she tells it best, let me offer a paragraph:

Cordelia headed down the stairs a moment later, her gown trailing along the steps. The deep gold fabric set off her black hair to perfection, and the cream colored wrap accented the dress without showing it up. She sighed. Once, she would have been ecstatic to think of the looks that would be cast her way tonight. But it had been years since the attentions of men had been anything but a burden…

A wonderful main character, with secrets, but everything is also and obviously delivered in a beautiful and flowing writing style.

The backdrop is London, of course. All the expected items are in place: Balls, family, and the grande style of homes with the obligatory loyal servants, but it is all so nicely presented as to seem interesting.

The gentleman in the picture, Lord Thorne, is offered as almost a prize. However, one does have to wonder how he has managed to elude marriage for so long…His friend and fellow officer, Neville is also important. In fact, the reader is inclined to develop quite a crush on the amusing Neville, aka ‘Aries.’  The author exhibits a particularly deft touch in developing the friendship of these men and only gradually do we discover what sort of ‘business’ their affiliation in the ‘Zodiac’ actually represents.

A Heartless Design has more depth than one might be given to expect in a romance.  In fact, there is a threat both men suspect… though neither they nor Cornelia know of her own place in this intrigue. How could they know? She must, given the cultural norms of the time, keep her own involvement completely secret. Her secrecy might well end up endangering her, but trust is a hard master as well. There’s chemistry between she and Thorne, of that there is no doubt! Yet, true trust is a completely different thing.

This delightful romance, with its element of mystery/espionage and potential danger, is completely enthralling. Step back into a perfectly satisfying early nineteenth century romance – and find what one could hardly expect: the unexpected.

I recommend you put A Heartless Design right at the top of your reading list!
