Planet Earth Adventures is the story of a man named Krakken and his best friend, Chris P. Critter, the millionaire inventor of The Simpleton. Krakken has several utterly useless college degrees. He is also the father of a strange and precocious toddler named Camadan, whom he adopted after a chance meeting with a girl. (“Some guys get herpes from a one night stand. The puns were well written. For example, the main character’s best friend was named Chris P. Critter. This was one of the many things that made me grin while I was reading. It was amusing to pick up on all of these zany references, especially since the characters didn’t necessarily notice what was going on with them or why they were funny. It was like a private joke with the audience, and I enjoyed that.

I had some trouble understanding what was going on in this story because of how little time was spent explaining anything. Readers were thrown into the first scene with only a sentence or two of introductions to the characters and no references at all to what they were doing or what they hoped to accomplish. As interested as I was in the premise, not having this information made it tricky for me to keep my interest levels high as the plot moved forward.

There aren’t many science fiction books out there that include toddlers. I was intrigued as soon as I realized that one of the characters was this age, and I only became more interested in him over time. Having a little one along for the journey changed so many things the adult characters were capable of doing, from how often they stopped for food to what they talked about when he was listening. This was a nice addition to the genre, and I hope other writers start including more characters who happen to be parents to young children.

I’d recommend Planet Earth Adventures to anyone who likes tongue-in-cheek science fiction.

Only one thing held me back from giving this a perfect rating, and it had to do with what Nutsi and Lili did in order to help him fight his fear. Their plan involved the two of them leaving the house late at night without telling anyone where they went. If this had been written for an older audience, I wouldn’t have thought twice about it. With that being said, the importance of not going out alone, especially at night, would be something I’d want to talk about with a child this age after reading this story to them. While it’s a great way to get a plot moving, it’s also something I’d want to make sure the preschoolers in my life weren’t going to try to imitate.

Ms. Paidge has a vivid imagination that shone through every scene. I appreciated all of the plot twists she included. They were obviously tailored to young children, but they were so unique when compared to most of the other picture books I’ve read over the years that I’ll be keeping this author in mind for the next time someone asks for a recommendation for this age group. She knows how to keep her audience on their toes in a good way, and it shows.

NUTSI Wants to Catch the Moon was an adorable adventure that I’d recommend to kids of all ages.

On the one side, we have Alex who is working on the one hand to protect his school and family and, on the other hand is trying to help an old school friend solve a mystery and help find the pieces to a puzzle. There are also different POVs and many twists (loved the play on words the author used there) to help tell a story that actually began centuries ago with a secret passed on generations and a mother who splits her family to save that secret.

As I mentioned, there are many POVs in this story and you aren’t sure who the “bad guys” might be. The mystery is well written and kept me on the edge of my seat. The secondary storyline also adds an element of tension to the story that is not only timely but thought provoking. It was also good to catch up with characters from the other book; however, it is definitely not necessary to have read the previous book in the series. This one stands on its own wonderfully. I’m interested in reading the rest of the series.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this story was how much attention it paid to Matthias’ personality. Just like the living, he didn’t react the same way to everyone he met. Some people got along with him well, while others saw a scarier side to his personality. It made me even more curious to see why he’d stuck around after death and what would happen to him in the end.

There was a small plot hole involving how much Dylan’s dad knew about the famous ghost in his hometown that I wish had been explained better. Some scenes made it seem as though the dad knew almost nothing about this piece of folklore despite spending his whole childhood in the tiny town of Salvation Point. Other scenes appeared to hint that he knew far more than Dylan realized. While this wasn’t something that I spent too much time worrying about, it would have been nice to know for sure what the dad knew, when he knew it, and why he stayed so quiet at first about the paranormal rumors about the cottage they were staying at.

Dylan was such a likable kid. He assumed the best in just about everyone he met, and he did a wonderful job of entertaining him in what was a pretty isolated, quiet place to stay for a family who had two active kids. While he definitely had his share of flaws, I appreciated the fact that they were balanced out with so many positive character traits. He’s definitely someone I’d want to explore a haunted house with.

Matthias: The Ghost of Salvation Point was a friendly paranormal tale that I’d recommend to kids and adults alike.

The Cyclopes were a fascinating species. I loved seeing how much attention Ms. Older paid to their society, culture, and physical appearance. They were different from humans in some pretty important ways, so it was helpful to have so many details about all of the things that made them unique. While this was satisfying as a short story, I honestly wished it was the opening chapter of a full-length novel so I could spend more time getting to know these remarkable humanoids. They captured my imagination.

I would have liked to see more attention paid to a plot development that happened later on in the storyline. It had to do with the Cyclopes, their relationship with Earth, and whether or not they were being truthful about something they’d said to humanity when first contact happened. This was such an interesting part of the storyline that I wish it had been given more time to shine. There was certainly plenty of room left in it to explore.

Flur was such a cautious and sensible main character. I always enjoy meeting characters who take the same sorts of precautions I would in a new environment, and she definitely fit that bill. She took her training seriously and found a smart balance between collecting evidence for her colleagues at NASA and keeping herself safe in a totally unfamiliar environment.

Tear Tracks should be read by anyone who loves the extraterrestrial side of science fiction.

I was impressed with how accurately Mr. Marchiori captured Edgar Allan Poe’s voice. The narrator sounded and behaved exactly how I’d expect Poe to express himself. Everything from the language he used to how he interacted with other people felt like it was done by the man who wrote so many classic horror stories. There were times when I needed to remind myself that this was a work of fiction because it was so easy to forget that it wasn’t actually a biography.

There were a few mild pacing problems. I hesitated to even mention this because of how much I enjoyed the rest of this tale, but I did occasionally notice scenes that didn’t move quite as quickly as I thought they should have because of the descriptions of what characters or settings looked like. It would have been helpful if those scenes had matched the pacing of the rest of the storyline whether that meant speeding them up or slowing everything down a bit.

The ending was well written. Not only did it fit the characters perfectly, it threw in exactly the sorts of last-minute surprises I was hoping I’d find in this tale. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to wrap it all up. This was one of the reasons why I chose such a good rating for this tale. While the pacing was sometimes a little slow early on, the plot ended on such a strong note that I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye out for what the author comes up with next.

To My Beloved Heart, The Last Journey of Edgar Allan Poe should be read by anyone who loves Poe or the horror genre in general.

How this happened was perfect for the book. I loved the different characters, Luanna and Luke being favourites after Draven and Ashley.

The world-building is excellent, the pacing is smooth, and there is enough tension and intrigue to keep you on the edge of your seat. Although this is book four in the series, it is the first one I have read. I had no trouble following the story, and definitely recommend it.

Overall, this was a good story. The execution of it though, that was a bit messy. Nia and Samuel, Ananias and Hannia, two couples who are to become one big love-fest. Part of the trouble for me was the lack of chemistry, leading up to flash, bang, whallop, chemistry with little or no build up. There are also characters mentioned with no back-story, who appear to be rather important to the story moving forward.

In my opinion, this book would be better for fleshing out the characters a bit more, giving them more time to get to know each other and their complex relationship. By building the back-story more, it would give the reader a more intimate knowledge of both the world and the characters themselves.

Still, a good read that I did enjoy.

Written from three different perspectives, we quickly get into the story. Dolyn is our dragon, and has a superiority complex. After all, he IS one of only two full-blooded dragons left. Ashley is our main female, scarred and scared from her past. And Vanni is other point of the triangle. A Dom in his own right, and definitely not prepared to ‘submit’ to anyone. By the way, he has a bigger superiority complex than Dolyn!

This story is hot! from the word go, but there are difficulties for our tremendous trio. I found two of them (either A & V, or A & D) had a connection, but not V & D. This meant that I found parts of it… lacking, for want of a better word. I can understand Dolyn’s complex, but Vanni’s? I don’t know. It just didn’t meld for me quite as much as other readers. Yes, you get your HEA because Dolyn has an epiphany, but it just didn’t quite do it for me.

Although very well written, there were some errors that I picked up on as I read, although they were only small. The world-building was good, the characters were (mostly) great, and I would definitely delve into their world again. If you’re after a hot, steamy read, then I can absolutely recommend this.
