A hot story for a winter’s night.

I’ve never read a book by Emma Holly and I’m glad I remedied that. This story was hot. I do mean hot. The three characters had a definite spark and it was refreshing to see them connect.

I did have a few quibbles, though. Part of my problem may be due to me not having read the other books in the series. It seemed like the characters jumped right into the action rather quickly. This might not be bad for some readers, but it took me a couple rereads to get caught up. Also, there were a few instances where I wasn’t sure whose point of view I was in and that was a tad confusing.

The sex is hot in this story. I mean HAWT. The connection between the characters is deep, so that’s a plus. I liked how Georgie wasn’t a bland beauty, but was a bit rough around the edges while having a heart of gold. I felt the heat between Iksander and Connor, but I had no real idea of what either man looked like. It was okay, though because the speed and intensity of the love scenes balanced it out.

If you’re looking for a story that’s hot and quick, then this one might be the story for you.

Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can’t move. She can’t speak. She can’t open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn’t remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from twenty years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it’s the truth?

More twists and turns than a roller coaster is an understatement.

This isn’t my usual flavor in books, I’ll admit. I’m horrible with mystery and figuring out whodunit. But the premise intrigued me. A woman in a coma. Hmm…I wondered how this would work out.

The writing flows well enough. It’s like reading a conversation. I had to keep going. It didn’t take me long to read the book and I finished it in one afternoon. Initially, I enjoyed the book. I mean, things happen, she’s in a coma and it’s not all beer and skittles. I have to mention there is a mention of rape and could be a trigger for some readers. I’ll admit it gave me the creeps.

The thing about this book wasn’t so much the initial reading. It was the questions afterward and how I analyzed it. Amber admits from the beginning she lies. I wasn’t fond of how down in the dumps she seemed to be on a constant basis. The more I read, the more I didn’t root for Amber. I kept thinking, how can this much bad happen to one person? Now remember, she lies. So after a while I thought…how much of this is a lie and how much, if any, is the truth? See? It messed with my head. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad book. Doesn’t mean it was fantastic to me, either. Just…odd.

There were a few twists I wished might have been handled better, but that’s life. Things don’t always wrap up neatly.

If you want a book that will stick with you far after the last page, then this might be the book for you.

A sweet story for a slow afternoon.

I’m a sucker for the works of CH Admirand. The author has a way with words. In a few lines, I end up drawn into the story. I couldn’t put this one down. Granted, it’s a short story, but worth the hour or so read.

Margaret wants to save her father. He’s in trouble and she can’t let him get in deeper. Lord Avery spots an intruder on his property and takes matters into his own hands. Their story is rather simple, but Admirand adds special twists to keep the tale fresh.

It’s a sweet book and ends at just the right moment. I couldn’t ask for more–other than for the story to be longer so I can spend more time with these characters.

Okay, so I picked this book up because it had a neat cover and was on the shelf. I mean, why not try a new-to-me author? So I did. This book is definitely interesting. I’ll admit, it’s over 30 years old, so there are pieces of it that need to be considered through that lens. There is romance and while the hero has his moments of meanness, he does care about Francesca.

The Duke is a typical historical hero–he’s pushy, has no patience for some things while lots of patience for others and uses kisses to shut up the heroine. Still, he’s handsome and while he’s a tad dated, I still rooted for him to be with Francesca. Francesca is rather beaten down. I mean, good gravy, if I had an auntie like hers, I’d be hesitant to leave my house. Good thing she has the paper and her writing.

There are bumps along the way for these two and this story is a tad dated, but it’s still a fun read if you’re interested in what our mothers read back in the day. Check it out.

A guy with an attitude and a girl who wants to be touched. Seems cliche, but it’s not.

This book, for being over thirty years old, is certainly timely. The book read smoothly and engaged me, even if I wanted to wring the neck of the hero at least once. The author showcases the island of Mauritius quite well and while I haven’t been there, I could see it.

Paul is a real piece of work. No two ways about it. He’s almost, note I said almost, the Christian Grey of his day. He wants things his way and is so arrogant it’s not funny. He takes no prisoners and demands what he needs. That said, he has some true issues, too. He has problems in his past and while some might overlook them, it was almost too much for me.

Then there’s Emma. Her sister already met up with Paul. Now Emma’s on the island to break them up. She does as she falls for him. I get the appeal. He’s arrogant in a James Bond kind of way. She wants nothing of him. Falling for him? Not gonna happen…until it does. I liked the dance these two did around each other. It was fun to watch them realize they liked each other. I liked watching her melt him, too. I still wasn’t a fan of Paul’s by the end of the book, but that happens.

I’m not wild about first person POV, but this one held my attention well. I enjoyed reading about Tom and Caroline. While I haven’t read the other books in their series, I wasn’t lost and am looking forward to the next story.

This story has a lot, and I mean a lot, of sex in it. That’s not a bad thing. I knew these characters cared about each other, so I liked reading the sexy parts.

The one thing that seemed a little off for me was the emotion in the story. Don’t get me wrong. I like short stories and hot books. But this is a snapshot in their relationship. The other books most likely help add to the emotion in this one, so maybe try reading those first.
