Now that his good friend Lara is standing by him in his emotional struggles, he’s finding there is more to their connection than he realized. But dare he open his heart?

In the epic conclusion of the Fierce Hearts series, the colony takes its biggest risk of all to shut down the Nexus Group forever – will Lara and Booker survive to take their second chance at love?

This story starts off with immediate tension. Our heroine, Lara, is in danger right off that bat. She’s attacked and does her best to protect herself (can I just say how much I love a kick-butt heroine?) but is simply overwhelmed. Thankfully, Booker is nearby to help.

Some time ago, I read another book in this series (Secrets), so have some insight into the backstory and world-building here. Still, I clearly missed something in between the books, so the martial law that’s been imposed on the town was unexpected. The tension due to this conflict is almost unbearable at times. Everyone is tip-toeing around and worried about a million different things. And it’s all building to the crescendo at the end…

Author Lynn Crandall has a wonderful way with words and description. She makes the scenes and characters come to life in her books, and this one was no exception. The shifters, the setting, the soldiers are all described clearly but not to the point where my eyes glazed over. She also balances the romance with the suspense nicely, and I’d say this book is split right down the middle, so should appeal to both romance readers and those who prefer suspense.

The relationship between Lara and Booker was incredibly sweet… friends first and so much affection and trust from the start. They have their share of bumps, but I never doubted they’d make it through.

I do wish I’d read all the books in order. While the author does a good job catching readers up who aren’t entirely familiar with the series, I still feel that I missed things and that my experience with the book would have been much richer if I’d read them all. With the author’s writing skill and the interesting plot line, I’m sure I’d have been completely engaged in them all and am comfortable recommending this series to lovers of paranormal romance and suspense.

Lorelai Kelly was mere inches from her Olympic goal, but a broken ankle landing a triple axel in the spotlight forced her to delay the gold medal hunt another four years. Now she’s starring in the Sin City on Ice show to make ends meet and focused on a comeback that keeps eluding her grasp.

Dylan gained national attention in his early teens and went on to become the NHL’s youngest captain and leading scorer in his second season. He breathed new life into a sport that had been dying in the States, but it’s lonely at the top. Now the captain of the Vegas Sinners team is feeling the pressure and looking for something more.

Two top athletes who have so many personal issues to deal with meet and fall in love. On their way to happy ending, they have to go through a lot of trials and tribulations.

I have a very mixed feelings about this story. On the one hand characters are great, complex and well written. I find Dylan (the hero) sweet and gentle and so supportive. The other character that falls under this category of greatness is Lorelai’s (the heroine) friend Margo. She is such a colorful lady and I enjoyed reading about her performing group called Divas.

On the other hand the relationship between Dylan and Lorelai just doesn’t seem real. The reason for that lies in the story which does not focus so much on the building their relationship as much as it deals with problems Lorelai and Dylan face individually. These problems are connected with their performance in their chosen sports and they reflect on their relationship. In case of Lorelai she was just over the top sometimes. If only story was more focused on the relationship between Lorelai and Dylan, and less on how they dealt with their problems by themselves it would have been much better.

Still there are another good parts of the story that I liked, especially the friendship between Lorelai and Margo. They are complete opposites and Margo is exactly why Lorelai need her as a friend.

Although this story was not perfect match for me, readers who like sports romances might find it interesting, as well as readers who are following this series.

Heath Beckett would have never moved his renowned stained glass business to the artisan boutique town of Beauford, Tennessee, if he’d thought there was any chance Hope MacKenzie would return there. Ambitious and career-minded Hope left him with a bleeding heart years ago when she couldn’t fathom that his art would ever turn out to be more than a hobby.

Now she’s back because her family’s bank needs her desperately. Although she reluctantly settles into a quiet life in her hometown, she’s soon embraced by the knitting circle at a local shop, and Hope finally begins to understand the charms of small-town living: the neighbors who truly care for you and the slower pace that affords an appreciation of more simple joys.

She steers clear of Heath, knowing she foolishly lost her chance with him long ago. But when she gives a personal loan to the women who own the local knitting shop without consulting Heath, who has helped them with their finances for years, the two must work together to ensure the ladies’ business plan is in tip-top shape.

Surely a man capable of creating such pure beauty has a heart that can forgive. But can he still love?

Time has a way of maturing youthful infatuation into mature love but it doesn’t come without some growing pains.

Heath and Hope met in college and made plans. Well, Hope made plans and when Heath’s “hobby” led him in a different direction she pushed him further away. It would be a one of the few compulsive decisions she made, but it was a doozy with consequences that stole years from them.

The rekindled tension starts building for Hope as soon as she sees a familiar piece of artwork hanging in Heath’s store and Heath seems to have never let it rest. That tension explodes with the catalyst of Hope’s decision to loan some money to the sweet Stinson twins and gives new meaning to the term angry sex. If was obvious they both needed and had tried to avoid the connection as long as possible but like a magnet to steel, these two would always be drawn to one another. It was really beautiful.

I had to side with Hope on her obsession with one specific piece of male real estate, I kind of love snuggling up to that sweet spot, too. I knew she’d find her way back into Heath’s arms and more importantly his heart but these two are as stubborn as they can be. They’re both a little wary of getting their hearts broken again, too. I knew when they finally started to communicate they’d be alright. And Heath, sweet socially awkward Heath, he was precious and I couldn’t wait for Hope to admit it, too.

This is sweet and sensual addition to the Beauford series. The author has created a fantastic setting with the town of Beauford, Tennessee and I just love coming back to visit time and again. The secondary characters are so much fun and it’s great to see some favorites from other stories.

For a short story to warm you on a cold night, take a trip to Beauford Bend. Plus, there’s a cool bonus at the end of this book. Don’t miss it!

After years of abuse and torture at the hands of her father, Katia uses her genetically engineered “gift” to destroy the lab that has been her living hell.

As handsome and as kind as Dr. Julius Freeman is, Katia doesn’t buy his story that she’s been in a coma, and she certainly doesn’t trust him. She does know, however, that the horrors of her previous life have followed her to this century.

Katia stirs more than strictly professional feelings within Julius, but he, too, harbors a dark secret that could threaten everything building between them. When Julius is attacked and kidnapped, Katia must face her demons and fight like she’s never fought before to save the man she loves.

Imagine a life so unbearable that death is the only release.

This is the only life that Katia has ever known. She has suffered physical, mental, and emotional abuse, and she has the scars to prove it. Frankly, I’m amazed that she can function at all. I must warn readers that Katia’s story does contain some graphic violence. Despite everything that Katia has been through, she still finds beauty in small things and tries to protect innocent people when she can. I admire her strength and kindness, particularly toward children. However her self esteem is very low. She believes that her power makes her evil. When Julius walks into her life, he tries to convince her that she is not the evil being her father tried to shape her into. Will Katia embrace her power, or let it destroy her and the one man she’s ever cared about?

Julius is a very good man who is exceedingly patient with Katia. His tenderness is truly touching. I wasn’t surprised when Katia and Julius developed feelings for each other. However, I think it happened a bit too quickly given the circumstances they met under. When Julius found Katia, she was barely alive and needed a lot of time to recover. Katia is understandably paranoid and suspicious of everyone she meets. She spends a lot of time brooding about this, and I must admit that I began to find those passages a bit repetitive. Although Katia does begin to let her guard down around Julius, most of their time together is spent with him nursing her back to health. Then the tables are turned and Katia has to rescue Julius after he is kidnapped. I would have liked to see them spend more time together on more equal footing in order for their connection to feel more genuine.

The last part of Cursed is very fast paced and had me flying through the pages. Each time I thought Katia and Julius were safe, something else would happen and they were plunged back in danger. I really had no idea how their story would end. The conclusion is satisfying, but I still have some doubts concerning Katia and Julius’ future. I can only hope that Ms. Ross has a sequel in the works to answer my lingering questions.

Overall, I liked Cursed. Katia is a well rounded character who deserves every shred of happiness she can get. I recommend Cursed to anyone who enjoys fast paced science fiction with a bit of romance.

But the more time they spend together, the more the irresistible attraction between them builds. They’re from such different worlds, but can this fake relationship make the cut and become something very real?

Making it Real is a story about two people who are drawn to one another by faith. Kareem Henderson is an owner of the shop where Patrice “Neecie” Baldwin works. When her brother forces her to come back home she decided to bring Kareem with her as her fake fiancée. But soon their pretense turns into something real.

The story focuses on building a relationship between two very wounded and fragile people. Both Kareem and Patrice have to learn to trust one another, and to let go of the past. I was hooked on the story from chapter one and wanted to know how the characters will get out from the emotional mess they got themselves into.

Both characters are well developed. At first I found Kareem a bit too much alpha, i.e. dominant and possessing, but in the end he realized a few things. He earned a lesson or two and turned out just fine. Patrice is his perfect match. She does not want to be pushed around by anyone. She’s a strong and independent girl who knows how to take a stand. The conflict between Kareem and Patrice is well done and realistic and it is character driven. Also, the sex scenes are well written and very hot. Furthermore, I liked the interaction that Kareem and Patrice have with their respective families, and also I liked their families. They are complete opposite, but they both care about their members.

Still the story has a few weak points. I couldn’t understand why Kareem and Patrice choose to stay in her parent’s house when her parents obviously didn’t like him. Also, I could not quite understand how Patrice’s older brother can have a teen son when their parents are celebrating 30 years marriage anniversary.

Beside this I enjoyed reading this story. It was a fast and fun read.

Stuck traveling together to keep up appearances, the pair finds themselves cozying up to the idea of making their fake relationship real. But a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity leaves these two wondering whether they have the right recipe for success after all. Can Michael and Carly create something lasting or is their love a half-baked proposal?

Carly Piper loves her bakery, Caketopia, but funds are tight. She has to leave her assistant behind to deal with a repair guy, so she goes to make a big sales pitch alone. A country music star and his celebrity actress fiancée are planning their wedding, and Carly is determined to get the gig for making their wedding cake. It could put her into the big time and mean she’d never be scraping to pay the bills ever again. Her day seems to go from bad to worse though, when her main competition, Michael Welch, is also at the hotel, pitching his own bakery, too. An administrative mix up means both Michael and Carly are booked into the same time-slot to give their spiel, but instead of fighting it out, they decide to go for broke and do it together. When they’re both hired, Carly is equal parts thrilled and scared. She and Michael don’t work as a team and with the chemistry sizzling between them, Carly isn’t sure they can fake their way through this. But she’s determined to try.

I really enjoyed both Carly and Michael’s characters. Neither are cookie cutter nor shallow. I found both of them to be complex and multi-layered. Better still, they didn’t fall over themselves to get together. Carly knows her attraction to Michael is dangerous and does her best to keep him at arm’s length. Michael, well used to his freedom and lighthearted ways, finds Carly’s prickly demeanor both entrancing and frustrating. Owners of their own bakeries, they’re strong willed, independent and stubborn people. So I found it particularly delightful to watch them come together, at first to hook the celebrity clients, and then later because they realized the depth of their romantic connection.

I also really liked how the plot was complex, a few smaller plots interwoven together. The author did an amazing job taking us along the wild ride of both Michael and Carly both having to work together for the glamorous wedding, making a quick cameo on the reality tv show that kick-started both their careers and the roller coaster of sharing a hotel room while pretending to be a romantic couple. I found the story to be fast paced, but still detailed enough to keep me hooked. I quickly grew attached to both main characters and found myself invested in their fake/real relationship. My only tiny quibble was that nothing about the plot or situation was really stunningly unique. Fun, lighthearted and exceptionally written, this is nevertheless a story similar enough to a few others I’ve read over the last couple of years. That doesn’t detract from how enjoyable I found this, but I’d have loved even just a small challenge or unique twist on the path Michael and Carly took.

I found this to be a very well written story, with exceptionally interesting and vividly drawn characters. The plot was strong and well-woven and overall I greatly enjoyed every moment. Some steamy (though not overly explicit) sex scenes and enough chemistry to light a room on fire add a delicious zing to the story and I found the scenes tastefully and sensually written. A perfect book to curl up with one weekend to while away the time. Recommended.

The coming together of this damaged hero and heroine may heal their hearts.

A very well written story. This is the second book in this series which can totally be read as a standalone. The story was written in keeping in mind the characters. They shined throughout.

The beginning was great and from then on I was happily anticipating what would happen and how their relationship would develop. Every chapter and page from the beginning increased the anticipation with the well written and descriptive words and the burning passion and chemistry between the lead characters.

What I loved about this book was that Ms. Gerrard wrote and framed all the characters in a way that even the minor secondary characters felt special and enhanced the whole story. The multiple points-of-view not only gave me an idea what the characters were feeling and thinking but made me understand the plot a lot deeper.

However, the ending was a little disappointing for me. Not throw the book disappointing, just not what I expected. What I anticipated and what happened were very far apart in a good and a bad way. In a good way because what happened was surprising and I like surprises. The ending was simple, I was looking for more drama and action, nonetheless, it was satisfying.

This is a read for those who love contemporary romance with damaged heroes that will likely touch your heart.

This amazing novel is everything I hoped for and more!!

Quinn and Kyra are both brilliant and complex characters that – though they came from completely different backgrounds – share the same struggles. The way Ms Lund portrayed these characters from their emotions and heated reactions down to their very witty banter and chemistry was excellent. I instantly fell for Quinn and Kyra.

In such a short amount of time, Ms Lund created two amazing characters with intense backgrounds; I really didn’t want the novel to end.

Undercover Heat has a very well thought out plot and is quite easy to follow along with. Ms Lund has taken the idea of finding your love in the workplace (even though it may not be what you were looking for) and putting a very exciting spin on it.

Discovering that Undercover Heat is the second book in the ‘Tough love’ series – though can be read as a stand alone novel – makes me really want to read Naked Truth (Tough love #1).

I finished this book in a day; I actually ended up missing my train stop because I was so into this novel. I highly recommend Undercover Heat to those romance readers out there and I very much look forward to reading more of Ms Lund’s work in the future.

Their illicit encounter awakens feelings long buried for each. Will this preposterous scheme result in a happier ending than either could have hoped for?

Claudia Baxter has a problem. She’s about to be married off to an aging dandy, and she has to find a way to get out of it. Her parents are determined to see her settled, so drastic action is called for. Her twin brother’s dear friend (and her childhood companion) Henry De Vere has come to visit. When they were children, Claudia always took part in their games and escapades, in fact, she was the instigator of many of them. So now, she concocts a plan. She will sneak into Henry’s bed, and make it appear that she is ruined, so her elderly suitor will reject her. What Claudia doesn’t know is that Henry has suffered from sleepwalking for most of his life, which has put him in a lot of precarious, embarrassing, and dangerous situations. Henry is such a dear man, my heart broke to see him suffering. He was so filled with remorse and anxious to put everything right. He now offers to marry Claudia right away, but he has become a villain, and is banished from the Baxter household. I had a harder time with Claudia and her scheme. She went ahead with her plan without letting Henry know, and then, even when they had a chance to talk together before Henry had to leave, she didn’t tell him the truth. I found her a little weak for just not turning down the marriage her parents were trying to arrange in the first place.

Once Henry accidentally stumbled into what really happened, he concocted a scheme to get back at Claudia. While I’m not a fan of paybacks, unless it’s at the villain’s expense, I did feel that Henry deserved to get some of his own back. It was this painful incident that finally made Claudia realize just what she had done, and the consequences for Henry. Despite these reservations, the book did make for a unique and entertaining read. If you enjoy a historical romp, or a little madcap short story, Truth Within Dreams will fit the bill.
