Cara Connelly’s second Save the Date novel proves that opposites do attract…

The Playboy

Sexy billionaire Adam LeCroix has a mission: hunt down the sultry spitfire he blames for his troubles, demand her help, and exact revenge while he’s at it. Maddie St. Clair will help him . . . or else.

The Prosecutor

Former prosecutor Maddie damn near nailed Adam for stealing, but the lucky bastard walked. Now, five years later, he’s back, arrogant as ever, giving her an ultimatum—work for him to collect the insurance money, or she’ll never work again.

The Problem

Maddie’s all about right and wrong. Adam’s shades of gray. So when he uncovers the hot body under her hard-ass veneer and she finds he’s a thief with a heart, can the law-and-order lawyer and the fast-and-loose felon put their prickly past behind them?

Do not be fooled by the title, The Wedding Vow is not about a wedding. This story contains a lot of hot, sizzling sex scenes, great characters, and beautiful places. During the course of this story one stray dog is saved from certain death, a hatchet is buried, two paintings are stolen, lot of Prosecco is drunk and two very stubborn people fall in love. Reading The Wedding Vow is really a great adventure.  This is the second book in the Connelly’s Save the Date series, but it can be read as a standalone.

This story moved me on so many levels. I felt all the emotions the characters felt, all their happiness and sorrow and disappointments. The way the hero and heroine’s relationship progresses is beautiful. The story starts when Adam LeCroix forces Maddie St. Clair to work for him. In a way he wants to get revenge because she almost put him in jail five years earlier. Because she pays for her sister’s education she reluctantly agrees. Soon they realize that there is a mutual attraction between them. And before long the attraction turn into passion. As they get to know one another they come to two conclusions: first that they have very similar life experiences and second that there is more to him and to her than meets the eye (or that some private investigator can dig up).

Both Adam and Maddie are wonderfully written characters. Maddie is in not a typical heroine. She is in her mid-thirties and is fighter who speaks her mind and she does not like to be bossed around.  She has some pretty ugly demons. Adam is a typical alpha, with demons of his own. But Maddie shows him that he is not always right and that he has to stop being so stubborn and that he has to let go of the past in order to enjoy future. But probably the most valuable lesson that he learns is that money can’t buy love, family and happiness. The set of secondary characters is also great; each one of them nicely complement the story.

The only small downside is that the story is a bit too long. And because of that the pace is uneven. So in the middle, the pace of the story lost some momentum, and starts to drag a bit. Fortunately, very soon it speeds back up.

I recommend you read The Wedding Vow if you like a kick-ass heroine, alpha males, great and highly emotional stories, seeing a hero and heroine slowly fall in love, interesting love scenes and stray dogs.

Eager to escape her past in Ireland, Shauna Farrow signs on to become an indentured servant to Joshua Stewart, a wealthy man in Pennsylvania Colony.

But a life of servitude quickly turns to drudgery, and her hopes for starting over and creating a better life for herself are waning—until she meets her master’s roguish son, Ashton.

Shauna fights her growing attraction to Ashton, torn between propriety and acting on her emotions. But amidst their flirting, something dark stirs. Shauna soon discovers why no other servants will work for the strange Stewart family.

Stewart House has an unsavory reputation: a previous servant died there under mysterious circumstances. When another servant goes missing in the middle of the night, Shauna is convinced that a member of the family is responsible.

When Shauna’s investigation leads her too close to the truth, it’s up to Ashton to save her before time runs out.

Dangerous Indenture is a heartbreaking story for most of the novel. It tells of how cruelly Shauna Farrow, an indentured servant, is treated. I wanted to shout at her: RUN, GIRL, RUN!

The vindictiveness of a man, who Shauna thought loved her, closed all respectable avenues of employment for her in Ireland. She comes to America as a five-year indentured servant and ends up in a house with dark secrets and three really messed up people.

These three people seem to be without a smidgen of human kindness. Joshua, her master, overworks her, hits her, and threatens to sell her. While Colin, Joshua’s heir who stinks and looks like a rat, harasses her, threatens sexual attack, and plots against her when she defies him. Colin’s pitiful wife Minerva is unpredictable and hates Shauna.

Ashton, Joshua’s bastard son, comes home in disgrace. He is upset about how Shauna is treated. However, he is so out of favor, his protests go unheeded for the most part. He and Shauna pretty much save each other as their attraction to each other grows.

The sex scenes that satisfy physical needs and desires as well as the fight scenes are clear, straight-forward and some are rather graphic. As an incurable romantic, I longed for more love and less hurt. As Ashton gains control of habits he’d fallen into, love seems more evident and I did get the promise of a happy-ever-after that I look for. As a bonus, it seems like there’s one repentant antagonist.

Dangerous Indenture is written in a manner that makes it smooth reading even when the action is rough and scary. While I will probably not read it again, it did hold my attention and I would not have dreamed of not finishing it.

His new relationship with Amanda Sutton, pathologist, becomes interwoven with the crisis and their relationship is nearly swept away in the chaos. Can they remain together against all of the odds?

Every action has a consequence, but not every consequence can be known ahead of time.

The political subplot caught me by surprise. I knew this was a serial when I began reading it, but I wasn’t expecting to be nearly as interested in how a society decides who is and isn’t valuable when the human race is threatened with extinction as I was in the deadly virus. The foundation has been set for a great series. I’m looking forward to seeing what the author does in book two.

David and Amanda definitely have chemistry, but their relationship heated up way too quickly. I don’t have a problem with characters becoming intimate early on in their relationship. There is a big difference between being wildly attracted to someone and believing that they’d make a good life partner, though, so it would have been helpful had they been more aware of which one they were actually feeling as they got to know one another.

The premise of this novella caught my attention immediately. I’ve always liked stories about pandemics. The unique twist on this one intrigued me even more since there was a recent real-life case of an ancient virus being discovered in melting permafrost. It’s such a scary scenario! By far the most interesting scenes involved Amanda’s race to figure out how – or if – she can stop this one before it’s too late. Every time she uncovered another clue I had no choice but to keep reading until I knew what she’d do with it.

I’d recommend The Melting Book 1, The Infection to anyone who enjoys the medical side of science fiction.

Syeesha has been working hard to get through law school. She has been laid off at the law firm she was working for and so at loose ends she accepts a job making a large sum of money being the assistant to Jade, a woman in the entertainment industry who has become very attached to the lifestyle her husband, a former actor and now a politician, has provided for her. What a wild story. Syeesha is just at the right place in her life to feel tempted by the lifestyle she sees Jade and her husband living. So, she is also at the right place and time to feel tempted by an incredible proposal Jade makes. Up until now Syseesha has been a good girl, doing what is expected of her. This is mainly because of her upbringing, having been raised by a strict and controlling military father. With no other source of income, law school is out of the question, and she has the roommate from hell. The only positive thing in her life is the guy she is seeing, Christian. But, will she sacrifice Christian, and her moral code, for riches?

A tale of greed, the lure of easy money, the lengths people will go to in order to maintain their wealthy lifestyle, and how it can take over your life until you have nothing left of your soul. This was a very entertaining read and a bit of a cautionary tale too. The ladies will love super sexy and principled Christian, and the ending is a little bit of a surprise. If you like a book that will keep you guessing all the way until the end, steamy romance, and ….. sexy red shoes- don’t miss this one.

Expert horsewoman, Shannon Winterhawke runs away from home to join the Buffalo Bill Wild West extravaganza. But all bets are off as Shannon slowly sneaks into Seth’s heart and lassoes him with his own rope.

He never expected her to be pretty…

Cowboys have always seemed sexy to me, so that led me to read this anthology. There are three stories included about different points of history and they are all good reads. Why not jump on your imaginary horse and go along for a ride through the book?

In this anthology, we have ETHAN’S BRIDE by Barbara Ankrum, SHADY LADY by Adrienne deWolfe, BAREBACK BRIDE by Sharon Ihle and all three authors write a story with an interesting plot.

My personal favorite of the three was Ethan’s Bride. She’s a mail order bride and he’s a widowed doctor. He almost panics when he meets the train because she’s prettier than she appeared to be in her picture. After all, all he wants is a mother for his child; he’s not looking for love. If sex happens, that’s fine. It’s not a thing of love, it’s a need. For some reason, this does charm his new wife, Violet. She is in love with his child and it doesn’t take long before she can see behind his façade and understands it’s hurt from his past that is making him not take a chance with the future. Life for them gets much more interesting until things settle down. Ms. Ankrum touches on the civil war and its dead and how that influences the living. That added depth to the story and made it more enjoyable read.

Shady Lady is about a prostitute who has big plans for her future. They don’t include a kid from the past who now has a reputation as a fast accurate gun and a nickname of Rebel Rutter. When he wants to rent her for a month, she quotes him $6,000, knowing he can’t ever raise that much. She tells him he can’t rob a bank. So he does sharp shooting and others bet on him. He makes the sum but he’s not won the babe… Ms. deWolfe writes of sharp witted, mercenary prostitutes and cowboys that have barely been tamed. This is lot like the real west was and it’s not always pleasant.

Bareback Bride was fun. She’s part of Arapaho and a trick rider and shooter. He’s the horse boss and he first tests her on the back of bucking bronco without telling her, of course. When they incorporate a kiss in the Wild West routine they do, it sparks an extra interest in them both. This talks about Wild Bill’s show, throws in a protective family and ends on an impulse. It’s a fast read with no real surprises, but good fun.

There’s something here for everyone. If you haven’t read much about the west, you have some new territory to explore.

But what will happen when she finds out who her farmhand really is?

The slightly misleading title of The Cowgirl and the Stallion perhaps makes the reader think the action takes place in the stables and pastures of Aya’s ranch, but in truth, most of the action happens in Aya’s and Mason’s hearts. And there’s plenty of the emotional sort of action.

The most remarkable achievement of this novel is how both Aya and Mason grow in front of the reader’s eyes as the story progresses. When we meet Mason (or Nate), he seems to be arrogant and flirty, all with the purpose of tricking Aya into selling her land. She, in turn, is stubborn and won’t listen even to the people closest to her when they try to help her and steer her in the right direction. But their meeting teaches them both a big lesson; it just takes time for them to realize it.

Spencer, Aya’s son, was a delightful character and I was very happy that he was so important to the story and wasn’t just a complication in Aya’s and Mason’s relationship. He was very charming with his pre-teen awkwardness and unexpected intelligence and it was wonderful to follow his interactions with Aya, but more so with Mason.

The biggest drawback of the story was that the roles were stereotypical. Mason was the big bad corporate beast and Aya was the helpless but brave small farmer. With a more original conflict between the two their story would have been even more powerful and deeper.

The Cowgirl and the Stallion shows that sometimes a win is actually a loss and that it takes courage to admit it. Despite the predictable plot, the strong characters make the novel a good read.

Though he hates to be the bearer of doom and gloom, he doesn’t want the poor girl to find out from the tabloids. For Maxwell knows all too well how devastating that could be.

She’s not afraid to use her best assets to get what she wants. But when the unpretentious yet devastatingly handsome Max delivers his news, her plans for the future come crashing to a halt. In the challenging days ahead, Max’s compassion, humor, and steadfast loyalty to Meredith and her son win her over. She quickly finds herself doing something she swore would never happen again: falling in love. And yet Maxwell still refuses to completely drop his guard. Somehow Meredith’s got to find a way to seduce this reluctant royal.

Reluctantly Royal is the third story in the Nichole Chase’s “Royal” series. Like previous two stories in the series (Suddenly Royal and Recklessly Royal) it is set in fictional kingdom of Lilaria. The main characters of this story are Prince Maxwell Jameson Trevor D’Lynsal and Lady Meredith Thysmer.

Maxwell (Max) and Meredith are polar opposites in every possible way. Max is the middle child of the Lilaria’s royal family, but he is not very fond of the crown related duties; he particularly dislikes being in the spotlight. The reason lies in the fact that he found out from the tabloids that his father died. Meredith is, on the other hand, born in relative poverty, and she, together with her family, was invited recently to return to Lilaria in order to retrieve their title and lands. Also Meredith is a singer and is, actually, on her way to fame and success and the spotlights are inevitable part of her future career.

Two of them meet under very sad circumstances. Max was the one who had sought Meredith in London and informed her about her grandfather’s death. From London they went back together to Lilaria, and there the rest of the story took place. The story happened over the course of one week – a few days before Meredith’s grandfather funeral and a day after it. The part of the story related to Meredith being in Lilaria preparing the funeral has nice pace, and it is lovely written. But the part related to the Max and Meredith’s romance I find a bit rushed, because they felt the attraction, had sex, fell in love and Max proposed in the course of that one week. And all that while Meredith was going through very sad and hard period. Their relationship would be more realistic, and probably I would feel Meredith’s grief deeper if the pace of the romance was slower. Also the other shortfall of the story was Meredith relationship with her father. The author never fully revealed the root of his anger and bitterness toward Meredith. But even more frustrating for me was that their relationship never got a proper conclusion.

Regardless of these flows I enjoyed reading Reluctantly Royal. Besides being a funny and warm story, I enjoyed it because of the reappearance of the characters from the two previous books in the series. The other reason was that it had lovely characters and it was situated in magic Lilaria. For all of you who are planning to read this series please note it does not need to be read in order, but I highly recommend it because it will provide you better insight of the characters and it will give you better insight into royal family of Lilaria. I enjoyed all three books and they are definitely worth reading.

Two radio show hosts. One show. Who will come out on top?

In a moment of restlessness, Tate Grayson sold his multimillion-dollar company and spun his love of sports into a radio talk show. Life, and love, is too short to take seriously—a fact he enjoys rubbing in uptight radio host Noelle Butler’s face.

These medicines have already helped thousands of men cheapest viagra no prescription across the globe.
After the death of her parents, a tragedy she blamed on herself, Noelle vowed to live a controlled, focused life. Now a psychologist, she channels her need for connection into her radio show. But when the arrogant sportscaster next door tells listeners men shouldn’t get married, she’s all too happy to yank the silver spoon out of his overprivileged mouth.

Their heated on-air arguments are a hit, but when the station director forces them to do a joint show for two weeks, Tate and Noelle object. They can’t stand each other, despite the attraction sizzling beneath every interaction. But if they can’t pull the struggling radio station back from the brink, they’ll lose their jobs. Or worse, their hearts.

I love stories where there’s a lot of tension and animosity between the main characters, tension that slowly grows into something different, something more. Tell Me Something Good has a nice amount of competitiveness and conflicts between Noelle and Tate, and each scene makes it clearer that the tension is the result of their mutual attraction and their fear to admit it. All this made the chemistry between Noelle and Tate sizzling.

Not that the stubborn Noelle would ever admit it. I found her an intriguing character with a lot of depth and emotional richness. Perhaps Tate was a bit more stereotypical than her, but he was still convincing in his role as the hero of the novel. Their slow realization of what they felt for each other was tantalizing and well paced. However, there was a slump in pace in the second half of the novel where there’s a long scene where Tate pampers Noelle. While it showed his feelings for her, I felt it was a bit overdone and went on for too long.

What was really great about Tell Me Something Good was the dialogue – very appropriate for a story with radio talk show hosts as the main characters. The verbal sparring between Noelle and Tate was very passionate and hot and it testified to the tension between them.

If you’re looking for a story with juicy dialogue and a heated conflict between the characters, this one’s for you. You’ll grow to love the emotionally scarred protagonists, laugh at their bickering and melt as they grow to love each other. This novel has something good to tell you.

I have read a few other books in this series and this one is the best so far. This is certainly a super steamy romance but it also has a lot of depth. I found myself swallowing back a lump in my throat once. It’s really sweet, but sometimes we don’t want them to fix things for us. Dominic wanted to see a broken family come together but, he also had some doubts about Lara he needed to put to rest. So, I could see this playing out in real life and that made the story more emotional. A wonderful story of true love, adults growing up emotionally, compromising, and accepting life’s curve balls, building bridges , family bonds , and of course true love. Well done!

I loved the way she embraced her heritage – lurking evil force or not – and dove in head first in order to be ready in time to face off with Cabhan with her cousins.

Boyle McGrath is the embodiment of all I’ve ever expected an Irishman to be. He’s surly, he’s stubborn, and he’s one hundred and ten percent lovable. His gruff reluctance to give in to his emotions is adorable and amusing because we know that Iona will find a way to worm her way into his heart, right? Once she does, they become the closest thing to a perfect couple. They don’t always agree or get along, but they find a way to stick it out in the end.

In addition to the main couple, you are treated to an entertaining cast of characters. Branna and Conner, Iona’s cousins, are like night and day, and yet so much alike sometimes that it’s scary. Maera and Fin, co-workers of Iona’s and friends of the cousins, only add humor, friendship, and love to the mix. I’d love to sit in on a night with this group, whether in Branna’s home or at the local pub, either way you know you’d be in for a night you wouldn’t forget.

Set in picturesque Ireland, a place I’ve dreamed of visiting, the story takes off from the very first page, whisking you off on adventure and into a romance you can’t help but root for. With its rich storytelling, loveable characters, and intense plot, I had a hard time putting this one down. For my first Nora Roberts novel, it was a giant win.
