I enjoyed this short story. I liked how despite a number of recent set-backs – the death of her adopted parents, losing her job and being dumped by her fiancé – Miri still was determined to set her life on a good course and make the most of what she did have. It gave me the good impression of being upbeat and optimistic even when life insists on handing you lemons.

There were a few aspects of the story that struck me as a little too contrived, like when Miri’s grandmother leaves her a note with the combination to her safe and the comment that she’d left “things she didn’t want to give the solicitor” in there, but Miri had zero curiosity about it and even decided to cook herself some dinner, eat it and put off checking it out until the following day. These actions totally made me pause and jarred me out of the story-line, because I had to wonder and reflect whether I was just an impatient, curious sort who could never have dreamed of shelving such an intriguing thing. Possibly this won’t seem to strange to other readers, but it really felt a little unbelievable to me, and this oddness took me slightly out of the story.

I thoroughly liked how the tone of the story overall had the feel to me of a small-town mystery story. Miri discovers all sorts of things, secretly hidden old keys, her grandmother’s safe with sealed envelopes and so on. I felt a little like I was reading an Agatha Christie novel and I loved this. Miri was an interesting character and I enjoyed exploring the various elements to her character. There is a definite element of mystery also surrounding the other residents in the small town. Far from the usual aspect of chatty, nosy neighbors deeply curious and gossipy about anything new, most of the residents are very stand off-ish and jealously guard their privacy.

Luckily, Miri has Gavin, a clerk at the law firm handling Miri’s grandmother’s estate. The attraction between Miri and Gavin is a very slow burn – but I found the growth of their romance really satisfying to read. When Miri is in genuine danger Gavin not only rescues her, but also admits his feeling and I found it lovely to read. There is one steamy scene between Gavin and Miri – kissing and touching but no consummation – and I thought it was well handled and tastefully written.

With plenty of mysteries an intricate plot and some curious and layered characters this is a good read. I easily found myself becoming attached to the storyline and enjoyed trying to guess the twists before they happened. A complex and exciting story with just a hint of romance I feel this is sure to appeal to a wide range of readers.

I thought Patrice and Kai were interesting characters and felt a small pang that the short length of the story didn’t really allow us to get to know them much better. Despite this I found myself invested in their story and happiness and was very pleased to see them get their happy ending.

Readers wanting a magical, short and very steamy story should find this as enjoyable as I did.

I really enjoyed this story – how it turned the tables on the usual “love ‘em and leave ‘em” style of man. This time it was Lucas who had been thoroughly bedded and left by Olivia. Because of their past it didn’t seem too much of a stretch to me that Lucas and Olivia almost literally took one look at each other and immediately went for it.

While this near-immediate jumping into bed helps keep the sexiness level steaming for such a short length story, I really would have liked a little bit more depth to the conclusion. I was left with a bunch of questions – did Lucas’ explanation satisfy Olivia’s father? What happened with the dinosaurs? Did Olivia get the credit her discovery deserved? It didn’t appear to me that this was the first book in a series (or serial) and so having a number of unanswered questions was a little unappealing for me, personally, but this proved the story certainly drew me in!

There was a definite “happy for now” feel to the ending but I really did feel like much of the rest of the story was only really a vignette sort of snapshot, not a whole, completed story in and of itself. The romance aspect was definitely given the majority of the focus, but when I reached the last page – having so many questions still remaining for me made me feel as if the non-romantic parts of the story were just padding and not really given the justice they deserved.

That said I really enjoyed both Lucas’ and Olivia’s characters. I found Olivia a strong character and determined to get her way – not some pampered princess as originally alluded to Lucas by her father. I also found Lucas to be a strong and capable character and a good hero in my eyes. Their chemistry and attraction really sold the story for me and I enjoyed it – even with the lingering questions.

A quick and steamy read, this was a fun short story.

This is an emotional story that I did enjoy, but I found the plot a little over-complicated. For such a short length I really felt the author struggled to do the depth of the issues justice and the main casualty from my perspective was the attraction and chemistry between Elliot and Celeste. After a one night stand it was quite a stretch for me to believe that Elliot and Celeste made such an impression on each other that they could fall in love in the space of a few short conversations together. Further hampering their chemistry and my belief in their attraction was the first half of the story was filled with mountains of baggage, distrust and conflict brewing between them. Elliot genuinely believed he was infertile so he instantly dismissed Celeste’s insistence the baby was his. And despite Celeste outwardly appearing to understand Elliot wouldn’t instantly propose or declare his undying love to her and the baby – she sure acted to my mind as if that had been what her heart wanted when she told Elliot about the baby.

Add in a number of secondary characters who all added their two cents – Celeste’s sister and best friend and a friend of Elliot’s too – and for a 44 page short story there really was an awful lot happening all on top of itself and I really feel this detracted away from the romance between Celeste and Elliot. There is a fairly brief sexy scene right near the end, but it was a little short and late to help cement the believability of Celeste and Elliot’s relationship to me.

I can’t fault the meatiness of the plot – the author managed to jam pack a huge amount of stuff into the short story, but personally I would have enjoyed this story a great deal more had there been one or two aspects of the plot and a lot more focus on Celeste and Elliot building their trust and starting their relationship – that part really felt rushed to me. For me personally, the building of trust, the starting of Elliot and Celeste’s relationship – and in particular the story of their romance – was what I wanted to read, even above all the other plots and conflict.

While the slightly old-fashioned style of plot (a one night stand turns into a pregnancy) might not appeal to all readers, I feel the author managed to cram a lot of plot and a fair bit of a modern twist onto the story as a whole. There is a bit of sexy action toward the end that should appeal to readers who like some sizzle in their romance and the writing pace is fast so this short story can be quickly and easily read and enjoyed.

At first I was a little nervous this might be about Deacon showing or “proving” to Geoff that he was gay and the two men could be brilliant lovers, but I was delighted this wasn’t the manner of the writing at all. Deacon was serious when he explained a good Dom could do a scene with a sub regardless of gender, that the scene was based on dominance and submission and each party giving and receiving what they needed. That sex – while frequent and wonderful – wasn’t a necessary factor in the equation of BDSM. And this was exactly what Deacon showed Geoff. I loved that this was the main aspect of the plot and storyline. Sure, the chemistry and sexual tension between Deacon and Geoff was delicious and I felt it had a wonderful slow burn, but it was very clear to me that Deacon carefully took all his cues from Geoff and there wasn’t even the faintest hint in my mind of Deacon trying to “turn” Geoff or push him in a certain direction.

Geoff’s need for submission was also very clearly written and I felt it was a big part of the plot. I really enjoyed how Deacon could read Geoff’s signals and adjust his own plans to encompass Geoff’s needs. In that respect this was an incredibly romantic and emotional read to my mind. Deacon showed characteristics of an excellent Master, tailoring his scenes and actions to what would best suit and help Geoff. And while there was the steady bubble of sexual chemistry between them (and eventually some delicious, non-penetration sex) the sex truly was secondary, the dominance and submission, the BDSM and elements of that lifestyle along with the blossoming relationship between the two men were what was written as most critical and the sex was absolutely secondary.

For a fresh and slightly different look at a BDSM relationship and part of the lifestyle this was an excellent story and I will be eagerly keeping an eye out for more in this series. A great read and highly recommended.

While the progress of Sully and Dane’s relationship pretty much was the plot, I found it fun and interesting enough that it easily kept my attention throughout the short story. The two men were equal parts adorable and funny, their blossoming relationship was both sweet and erotic, full of chemistry and it totally made me smile. I was also impressed the author wrote Sully’s dialogue with the Scottish accent – how any red-blooded person could go past a man in a kilt with a full-on Scottish accent is beyond me. I loved every moment.

For a fun and lighthearted story filled with sexy chemistry and that fun-loving energy all book conventions seem to have, this is a great short story and a quick read that I really enjoyed.

Nate and Shiloh both find each other attractive, but their worlds couldn’t be further apart. Shiloh is from the wrong side of town, Nate’s family is rich and he’s just graduated from an expensive academy geared towards people with magical gifts. The more time they spend together, the more complicated their relationship gets. Can they each find their right path?

This is a fun and really interesting story. I’ve not read any of the previous ones in this series and was very happy to find none of the back-story was really needed. Both Nate and Shiloh are fairly young – nineteen and seventeen respectively – and so while there is some romance it’s all fairly sweet and teenager-ish – friends who are attracted to each other etc. Aside from some chaste (and just a few teen-steamy) kisses there’s no physical romance, but a delightful emotional connection that flourishes into an even better romantic relationship.

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot in this story – finding the mystery of Shiloh’s lost ring as compelling as Shiloh and Nate both exploring their own powers and coming to terms with the magical world neither of them have much experience in. In a number of ways this felt very much to me like a coming-of-age story and I’d actually recommend it equally as a YA style of story as a sweet, emotional and slightly romantic read for grown ups as well. With strong and multi-layered characters, a few excellent plots and some fantastic pacing I eagerly drank up every page of this story and fully plan to look out for the others in this series. Shiloh and Nate were two wonderful characters and I loved watching them get to know each other, push each other’s magical boundaries and solve the puzzle together. I really enjoyed this character-driven mystery. Amory is an interesting and quite complex character, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her and watching her try to juggle all the various balls in her operation. This story had a bit of a feel of a spy-like thriller to me, Amory needing to keep a whole bunch of people, actions, reactions and counter-reactions all moving along smoothly while simultaneously trying to guess what would happen next and how best to achieve her mission. This alone meant the story was complex and rich – and to my mind made the plot interesting enough it retained my attention throughout the story. Add in the complexity of Jack turning up and being the estranged brother of the key player to Amory’s plan and that just added a delicious extra layer to this story as a whole.

I loved that the romance sub-plot was subtle. I truly feel the mystery – and complex mission – was front and centre, but having Jack around, and the memories he invoked in Amory just added that lovely simmering romantic tension that had me eagerly turning the pages, waiting to see how their reconnection (and hopefully their starting a romance up again properly as adults this time) would unfold. I was delighted to not be left disappointed. While not overly explicit, I did enjoy the steamy sex scenes which I found to be full of love and tension. Amory and Jack have chemistry in abundance – they both have their own reasons for thinking their relationship will go nowhere, but neither are able to resist the lure of love they feel for the other.

I was a little concerned that Amory’s deception to Jack for her work would either become a clichéd or over the top. I felt the author did an excellent job handling Jack finding out the truth. While he was understandably angry and felt betrayed I thought the pacing and level of drama attached to his sorting through his emotions and thoughts was handled really well. It wasn’t drawn out but neither skimmed over, and I was particularly pleased with how Amory acknowledged her part in Jack’s pain – but how she refused to take responsibility for his choices and actions.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this story, finding the plot complex and substantial and the characters vibrant, realistic and engrossing. The author has woven together a fantastic story with some sizzling chemistry and a lovely romantic sub-plot. A great read and one I shall absolutely enjoy again a number of times in the future.
