I thought this was an interesting and fast-paced short story. I loved how there were pretty much three main characters to it – Beth, Donovan and Hurricane Sabrina. The author clearly enjoyed making the enormous storm not only have a real part to play in the story but I feel they relished bringing the fierceness and intensity of the Hurricane practically to life. I thoroughly enjoyed the tension of the mystery and felt it worked well hand-in-hand with the overall tension the Hurricane itself brought to the overall story. I have to admit I felt Beth was a little too naïve and trusting. I understand why she couldn’t just open the door and run away – or call the police for help – but that was the only part of the plot that didn’t really connect well with me.

Both Beth and Donovan were interesting characters and kept my attention. Coupled with the interesting mystery plot I had no problems reading this whole story eagerly in one sitting. Towards the end of the story there are a few steamy kisses and one sex scene where the bedroom door is very firmly closed. While I felt the romance between Beth and Donovan felt a little rushed I have to admit that being trapped in a Hurricane and genuinely feeling as if their deaths were imminent went a long way to convincing me the characters found themselves in an extraordinary situation.

With a wonderful happy ending and an interesting plot I found this to be a great short story and one I enjoyed reading. Fast paced and snappy I think this should appeal to a wide range of readers.

The first section of this book is set in 1988 but then it jumps forward 30 years into 2018. I found this to be an interesting and intensely written story. Childhood shenanigans result in a tragic, accidental death and – like the best of campfire stories – mayhem ensues afterwards, stretching forward decades after the incident. Slightly paranormal with a hint of mystery and possibly for some readers very mild horror this was a great story I really enjoyed.

This was an interesting story and despite the very sad beginning I found myself really entranced by it. I thought it was a little odd that it started at an end-point, then went back a week in time and explained exactly how the circumstances surrounding the start came to happen, and then after that jumped forward into the present day. While there is certainly logic to the progress in the plot, knowing what occurred in the main accident gave the story lingering bittersweet feeling that hovered over the whole tale. I admit, I still was eager to know exactly how everything came about, and was pleased that we did jump forward in time and follow along with how all the main characters ended up after those childhood events.

Not a mystery in the traditional sense – you know from the opening scene exactly how the death occurs – this nevertheless had the feel of a mystery in the sense of how all the people and pieces came together, how did the opening scene actually come into being. Surprisingly for me I also really enjoyed that a number of the main characters weren’t good, nice or moral kids. Normally I like my protagonists to be heroic and fundamentally good people, even when there’s the odd anti-hero there is usually the sense that given the right circumstances the character would pick the correct path or action. Not so here. The author in a very well-written manner expresses very clearly that most of the group of main character children are not good or even redeemable to my mind. They’re bullies, devious and mean-spirited, simple as that. And while at face value I would have expected to not enjoy or even want to read such a story, E.C Fisher proved me completely wrong. I was hooked on how this summer camp unraveled and was absolutely cheering on the underdog character, even knowing how the shenanigans ended.

Completely different from most other stories I read, I nevertheless really enjoyed this story. I found the characters ran the gamut from deplorable to the traditional underdog and even knowing exactly how things ended I still had enough questions and curiosity to keep eagerly turning the pages. A very different and interesting read – albeit slightly uncomfortable and bittersweet – readers looking for something outside the box and non-traditional should certainly give this a try. Recommended.

I found this to be a fun and wonderfully warm-hearted cowboy style story. Despite his hound-dog ways, Stone was written in a light and cheerful manner and I found myself instantly warming to his character. Being fairly confident that he’d fall head over heels for Emmy just made his eventual blind-siding even more wonderful to read. I also really enjoyed Emmy’s character – I found her strong and relatable and while understandably cautious over Stone’s philandering reputation she didn’t get her knickers in a twist over it or hold his previous conquests over his head in a way I often find unbearable in a heroine. They each went into the eventual relationship with their eyes open and with open hearts and this was just lovely to read and experience with them both.

This has all the elements of a really good romance story to my mind: two strong and capable characters, a few small bumps along the road with easily-addressed misconceptions, a sick little baby and a small-town, cowboy style community with plenty of vibrant and interesting secondary characters. Emmy and Stone become intimate from around half-way in the story. Readers should be aware that there are some sizzling love-making scenes that might make more traditional “doors-closed” readers a little wary. But while the scenes are graphic I found them well-written, tasteful and not too over-the-top.

While I can understand some readers might find this story formulaic and “been there done that” I personally would urge most readers to give this book a chance. While sure, I could write out a dot-point of how the story progresses and it would sound tried-and-true – and possibly like a dozen similar stories – the joy I found from this really comes from the characters, their interactions and a warmth from the familiarity of it all. This is like eating your favourite comfort-food-dinner for the thousandth time, while it might at a glance seem similar to dozens of other meals, it still leaves you happy, warm and feeling deeply satisfied.

A solid read with enjoyable characters, a great plot and some steamy romance to keep you eagerly turning the pages I found this to be a great read. Recommended.

And while it took me a while to warm to Connie’s character, there isn’t really anything tangible that I could fault her for. And yet a part of me rankled that she would so easily ditch her lover and run away, not even willing to entertain the notion of talking to him and finding out what, exactly, was going on. I didn’t like how hard Tor needed to work to convince Connie to simply return to London and her job, to try and give himself time and space to woo her back. It frustrated me that Connie wasn’t willing to even try and meet Tor part-way in understanding and reconnecting with him.

Again, I must stress I understand this is a completely logical and rational response from Connie, I get that. But I suppose I expect more from my romance heroines. I want them to have a tolerant and open mind – maybe even be curious about discovering the world was larger than they had imagined. I think I struggled to get into this story for the very reason I was intrigued by it and picked it out – I wanted to see a more reality-based storyline about a normal heroine finding out her partner turns furry once in a while.

I really enjoyed though watching Connie and Tor getting to know each other again. I loved learning about Tor’s history and how he came to be a shifter, and I was pleased to see how effectively and firmly he went about wooing Connie back. Although the sex scenes happen in the latter half of the story I found them hot and well-written and intense. Tor does hover around the line of creepiness in how far he’s willing to go to try and convince Connie to stay with him. Readers who are firmly against the possibility/threat of kidnapping or holding someone against their will might find this story shades a little too close to that line for comfort.

Personally, once Connie started meeting Tor part way I quite enjoyed this story and found it to be a very realistic storyline and steamily written.

I found this to be a surprising and interesting story, rather steam-punk-ish in that it was clearly historical, but also rather strongly paranormal and almost urban-fantasy-ish. With travel on airbuses and vampire hunters abounding I was sucked into the storyline very quickly and although I struggled a little to catch-up with the different world and settings I was intrigued enough to not be daunted by the fact I clearly would be getting a lot more out of it had I read the previous two books in the series. While I feel technically this can be read as a stand alone – certainly Samuel and Violet’s romance was central to this book and holds well on its own, I must admit I spent a lot of time feeling like I was playing catch-up, not having a clue about the world, setting or scene that this book was placed in. I feel I definitely would have found it even more compelling had I read the previous installments.

I quite enjoyed the fact there was a faint rivalry between America and England. While not crass or overt I did like the small discrepancies between the countries and the fact they each expected some stereotypes that weren’t precisely true. I found this both realistic for the historical/steam-punk type of setting and also highly amusing in a fun way. It added a lovely bit of tension without being over the top or feeling too heavy and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It also highlighted the fact that neither Violet nor Samuel were as easy to understand as one would expect. Definitely no cookie-cutter characters here and that was both delightful and refreshing to my mind.

The hunter aspect of the story came forward pretty promptly and was complicated enough to keep my attention glued to turning more pages. This added a delicious element of mystery to the whole story and I found myself having difficulty trying to fit this book into a single genre – part steam-punk, part historical, part mystery, part vampire-hunter, this story really does have an element for everyone and a lovely slow-blossoming romance between Samuel and Violet to boot. While the romance moves at a lovely sedate pace, there is an intimate scene towards the end of the book. I felt it was tastefully written, although possibly too explicit for some more traditional readers. I thought the scene was both romantic and realistic for the historical (ish) setting.

With interesting and complicated characters, a great plot and a well-developed alternative world I feel this book has a whole lot of appeal for a very wide range of readers. Fun and intense, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

While it’s clear that Carver is capable of great violence and is not a soft or easy man, he isn’t heartless or despicable as he – and his reputation – seem to think. Carver is certainly possessive and a little bit obsessed with Yas, but it’s equally clear to me that he genuinely cares about her and that small act of kindness she showed him those many years ago touched Carver and changed something deep inside him.

For me, personally, both Carver and Yas’ characters were complex, layered and deeply interesting. I’m not much of a fan of the harder plotlines a lot of stories have recently – MC clubs and assassins, kingpins etc – but I thoroughly enjoyed this story primarily because Carver was such an interesting and engrossing character. He and Yasmine are totally suited – Yas being a strong, resilient and brave woman, a good match for Caver and the life he’s made for himself. I also really appreciated that while it’s clear the world Carver inhabits is a violent one, much of the grittiness of that violence and aggression was in the background here – the romance and relationship building between Carver and Yas was front and centre and that greatly helped me enjoy the story and helped keep me reading eagerly.

While there isn’t a hint of further stories to come – I’d happily pick up a story about one of Carver’s bodyguards, Jake. I found him to easily be the most interesting secondary character introduced in the story and would find his story quite appealing to read. When a story leaves me wanting to read more, that’s always a good thing. I found this to be a good story with a solid plotline and interesting characters. Recommended.

While there isn’t really much of a plot – the first half of the story is taken up by the “stuck in an elevator having sex” scene – there is a bit of external conflict towards the end of the story. I personally found the conflict a little over the top, but it was believable – not too outrageous – and I understand the purpose it added to the story.

Readers looking for a sexy, short and easy-to-read story should find this a fun and hot read. And while the storylines are fairly well-trod, the characters of Greyson and Adrian were fresh and interesting enough that they kept my attention throughout the whole story. A delicious happy ending and some seriously steamy sex this is a great, quick read that should appeal to a wide range of readers.

Beau might be tall and stacked, but there’s a calmness and strength to him that Flynn immediately recognized and appreciates. Not feeling at all threatened, Flynn agrees Beau can stay at the cabin with him until the storm passes. But when that happens, will they be able to say goodbye?

At first I was a little nervous that this story would be quite clichéd, I’ve read plenty of “stuck in a remote cabin during a storm” style of stories. So I was really pleased to find this short story well paced and a refreshing outlook on the tried-and-true plotline. Flynn is genuinely clueless about his true feelings and Beau isn’t the usual overbearing, pushy alpha male type. Indeed, I adored how Beau – for all his strength and self-knowledge – was patient, non-judgmental and quite kind to Flynn. I loved how neither man had a campy of flaming style of personality, while I love more flamboyant characters that wouldn’t have worked so well in this plotline or situation to my mind. Indeed, I really loved almost everything about this story despite my initial reservations.

I was pleased that while there was clearly a spark and some trust between Flynn and Beau they didn’t just immediately jump into bed together – that would have seemed quite outrageous considering Flynn was clueless and had just been jilted – and the pace of the romance between them felt just right to me, fast enough it didn’t drag but slow enough it felt realistic.

With interesting characters, a good pace and some seriously steamy love-making this is a great short story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Recommended.

Meredith is clearly a free spirit and strong-willed woman, and both Ace and Brett are different men, showing their attraction and interest in Meredith in completely different ways – Ace by being bold and brazen, and Brett a lot more quietly and subtly. I enjoyed the space and time the author gave me as a reader to understand and appreciate each of the different qualities and character traits of these three before throwing them all into bed together.

The fact that Brett and Ace weren’t intimate – or even really bi-curious – was something I found quite different about a M/F/M romance. My only (very slight) disappointment was that when the relationship shifted from a friendly/neighborly style and into the more intimate ménage territory the wording was a little clichéd and there seemed to be a bit of awkwardness in the shift from platonic into erotic. While often I find when characters first become intimate it’s a seamless, easy shift something about this story just felt a little jarring to me personally. Meredith insisting that they didn’t need to label it and almost treating it like an experiment to get her creative process flowing again also didn’t sit quite right with me.

That said, I loved how both Brett and Ace were clearly besotted with Meredith – and I genuinely feel Meredith had feelings that grew and deepened for both men too. After that initial, slightly awkward “getting together” phase I really enjoyed watching the threesome grow into a strong, healthy and interesting ménage. Overall this is a great story and a sexy threesome romance that I feel plenty of readers will enjoy.

Caer Rossi makes it clear he thinks Justin is smoking hot. While a part of him isn’t keen to be part of a soap, it’s a good chance, good money and a great opportunity. The fact there’s instant chemistry between Caer and Justin is just icing on the cake. Can the two men bring their work-romance into the real world?

I found this to be an emotional and interesting short story. The chemistry between Caer and Justin was intense right from the beginning, and I found it a little odd that they could have such strong chemistry and yet Justin could so publically insist he’s not gay. I was a little disappointed that in a couple of places Justin was mean to Caer and pushed him away when it was clear they were both physically very interested in each other. I can appreciate that Justin was confused and partly trapped by three years of saying one thing when reality was different – but it didn’t make it easier for me to read about Justin being a jerk and hurting Caer.

I also found myself somewhat puzzled by the fact both Justin and particularly one of the PR team for the soap opera were so determined to insist that while the actors portrayed gay characters the men themselves weren’t gay. While it was an excellent plot device and I’m sure there’s plenty of realism there it just seemed so strange in this day and age for anyone to feel forced to lie and hide their sexuality. I admit this added plenty of drama and conflict – both off and on stage – but I ended up needing to disconnect my brain and just enjoy the story for what it was and not think too hard about it.

With smoking hot sex scenes and plenty of intense emotions I found this to be an interesting and mostly enjoyable read. Readers who enjoy over the top soap operas, lots of drama and intense emotions should find this a good, interesting and quick read.
