Fifteen-year-old Lizzy Winston has always been a good kid—and she sees the good in most everyone else, too. When she meets the charismatic Andy Masters, she starts crushing hard. She’s not used to attention from boys like Andy, and soon he distracts her from other parts of her life that she’s trying to hold together. Her grades start slipping, she makes a mistake that costs her mother her job, and her friends’ actions are making her question what’s right.

Andy seems like a great guy. He’s funny and charming, the Clown Prince of Lakeside High. He loves digging up news stories for the high school TV station, but he’s got some secrets of his own. As he and Lizzy get closer, she grows skeptical of his motives. When she does her own digging on Andy, she learns that everyone has secrets—no matter how good they seem on the outside.

Someone’s pulling pranks at Lakeside, and Lizzy thinks she knows who it is. When the pranks escalate and put students in danger, she must decide where her loyalty lies. She doesn’t want to get a friend in trouble, but if she keeps quiet, someone will get hurt. In one week, she learns that adulthood brings new, complicated responsibilities—and the line between right and wrong isn’t always so easy to see. Is she ready to do the right thing if it means losing her friends?

This book not only tells the story of a high school student as she tries to figure out where her life it headed, but actually allows us to experience some of these emotions again as we read! It’s common that I care for the characters I read about, but less common that they can bring back memories of how it felt to go through some of their struggles. One Week of You beautifully portrays what it’s like to be a teenager again.

I also liked that this one wasn’t as straightforward as some YA Contemporaries. It has more of a mystery element which added to the story since neither Lizzy or the reader knows for sure how things will turn out. I loved seeing her struggle to untangle her emotions and she looked for clues as to what was really going on at Lakeside High.

This was a great YA story that didn’t just talk about romance and high-school, but also gave a beautiful portrayal of the jumble of emotions involved and that things are rarely as they first appear.

Worlds fear the powerful, ruthless, and cold-hearted Unseelie king. Deposed and his kingdom conquered, Uberon answers the call of a young human woman’s soul and claims her as his mate. Corinne’s clever mind captivates him, her compassion intrigues him, her beauty enchants him, and her body stokes his libido like nothing else ever did or could.

She revels in Uberon’s passion and shoulders the burden of power and responsibility beyond anything she ever dreamed.

A powerful story of Seelie and Unseelie, magic and control, love and loss. I’ve loved each of these books, and this one continues the magical story of a strange and dangerous land where Fae live and humans are drawn to.

As each book focuses on different characters, this series can be read in any order, but to get all the backstory of the characters and their world, then reading them in order might help some, but either way you are in for a treat!

I enjoyed Uberon and Corinne’s story, more so since they had an interesting dynamic with Uberon being a fallen immortal king, and Corinne who has her own strengths and powers, her beauty and character made stronger in her humanity.

Holly Bargo has a gift with words and a vivid imagination for magical lands and characters to match! While the romance is strong in these, it’s beautifully woven into a story of quests for love, burning passion, painful loss, and alluring intimacy. The setting is easy to picture, and the characters aren’t soon forgotten.

WHEN THE OCEANS RISE…THE TRUTH DROWNS

It’s the year 2031. Our future. Their present. A world decimated by climate catastrophe, where the sun’s heat is deadly and the ocean rises higher every day. A world ruled by the rich, powerful, and corrupt. A world where a good man can’t survive for long.

Hogan Duran was a good man once. He was a cop, forced to resign in disgrace when he couldn’t save his partner from a bullet. Now Hogan lives on the fraying edges of society, serving cruel masters and scavenging trash dumps just to survive.

But after four years of living in poverty, Hogan finally gets a chance to get back on his feet. He’s invited to join the National Security Council, the powerful paramilitary organization responsible for protecting the rich and powerful from the more unsavory elements of society. All he needs to do is pass their deadly entrance exam, and he’ll be rewarded with wealth and opportunity beyond his wildest dreams.

But this ex-cop’s path to redemption won’t be easy. The NSC are hiding something, and as Hogan descends deeper and deeper into their world, he starts to uncover the terrible truth of how the powerful in this new world maintain their power…and just how far they will go to protect their secrets.

In a world gone wrong, can one man actually make a difference, or will he die trying?

A dark and gritty take on a futuristic world where a former agent seeks to fix past mistakes, but will it be enough in a quickly changing world? This has all the elements of well known dystopia, and while I knew nothing about this book or author, I quickly found I needed to know what happened next!

Hogan Duran, a former cop, is a character that I can easily see in the lead of many top action movies, and this whole book carried that feel. Fast-paced, action-packed, edge-of-you-seat, danger and trials to test the hero? Check. Check. And check! This book is self-contained, but ends in a way that leave room for more, and I’d gladly return if that is the case. While Hogan and Kill Code aren’t my normal read, this one is compelling and I found myself finishing it quickly, as I needed to know how things turned out, and what new surprises would arise!

Great for fans of dystopia stories, that are told as a fast-paced speed with plenty of action, and a dark and gritty feel, then you should check out Kill Code. It has that ‘book-to-movie’ feel and is eerily close, set in 2031, while also being different and ‘futuristic’ enough to excite and surprise the reader as the story unfolds.

Bound by his debt, Falco takes Calista as his mate when he returns home to Froúrio Daimónafae, a sentient fortress-city carved from a mountain. Although he regrets his intended fae mate’s anger, his increasing affection and desire for his witchbreed mate surprise him.

Lost in a foreign culture, spurned by the fae, her body unfamiliar to her, and unable to believe in Falco’s professed affections, Calista makes her own destiny and realizes the fate of an unfriendly nation rests upon her shoulders.

Once again I am blown away by this author’s ability to create worlds and characters that captivate and haunt in equal parts. This in the second book in this series, and as with the first, I found myself instantly drawn into the story.

This one looks at different characters, and takes yet another look at this beautiful world, and the magical creatures that live there. A Fae imprisioned, forced to rely on another unknown prisoner. Yet when their fate turns, he finds that he cannot leave the female, a witchbreed, his cell-mate, who is dying.

I loved meeting Falco and Calista in this story, and loved how even after reading the first book, I felt like I was seeing this world as in once again for the first time with these new characters. This world is so vast and well thought-out, I can see this book being one that would speak to many readers. I first started this series because of the Fae/fantasy elements, but have quickly added it to one of my favorite series!

The romance and fantasy are both strong elements in this book, but it’s also full of rich world-building and complex characters that go beyond!

Who knew one little tattoo could cause so much trouble?

Can a cursed Prince find peace for his kingdom? And will a marriage truly unite the warring countries? I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this! It sounded interesting, but being new to this author, and knowing very little about the book, I wasn’t sure I would connect with the story. Hint, I did!

While I did have a problem with the heroine’s…forbidden status, I’m also always cheering for characters like this to find a way to a better life, so it’s hard to really recommend this book without telling one of the major surprises.

I did find the ‘love mark’ interesting, and enjoyed the main characters both Prince Urban and his mate are interesting characters and together they are dynamite!

But the king’s counselors suddenly start dying, and the king himself is hounded by foreign assassins. Revenge will have to wait if Asta’s going to keep the king, the mainland’s only hope, alive.

Heart-pounding and fast-paced, this packs a punch! This story has equal shared action and mystery, with a hint of romance and powerful friendships.

From the start I could tell that Asta was going to be an interesting character to spend time with. Now I only wish I could spend more with her! This story is packed full of emotion and fast-paced, while still being easy to follow, and constantly drawing the reader deeper into the story and mystery, lies and discoveries.

The story is solid, both the writing and characters are enjoyable and easy to keep up with. I loved the lore of the gods and the different kingdoms. It felt a bit historically inspired, while also having a mythology/SFF type setting that worked well together.

This story deals a lot with kingdoms and warriors, with gods and blessings/abilities thrown in, but I could see a lot of different readers enjoying this story, with strong characters, and detailed story-line this book is one that’d likely appeal to many readers.

And she must come to terms with the handsome and powerful fae male who claims her as his own and stirs her blood like none other.

From the start I was drawn into the story of a terminally ill woman, and the warrior fighting to save her. But that’s only the beginning…

I loved reading this! It reminded me a bit of a few other series I’ve read lately, but was beautifully original as well! As shown above, this story starts off lightning fast, and continues that way the whole time. I loved that the pace was constant, and that I never got bored, while also having things explained in a way that it was easy to keep up.

The characters in the story are well written, and easy to grow attached to. From the start I was interested in what would happen, and where the story was headed. I wanted to know more, and the story gives just enough to keep readers interested, but never giving so much away that they might grow uninterested. We get to see the story and world unfold as Catrion, the human woman, does.

I loved seeing all the mystical surprises this story holds, and the lore of the Deepwood. Fast-paced, and full of powerful Fae and other surprises, this series could easily become a must read!

As Shayla and Zack grow closer, though, business turns personal. And once their passion unleashes, there’s no going back…

A love story that really packs a punch! This is my first time reading Sarah Castille’s work, but I loved her Redemption characters, and can’t wait to read more of her stories! While this book has plenty of steamy sex, it also has a powerful story about overcoming challenges, forgiveness, and love.

Shayla has had a hard life, from her childhood sweetheart leaving her, to a messy marriage, but she has a fighter’s spirit, and refuses to give up. Deciding to start training in MMA, the last thing she expects is to be reunited with the man who broke her heart. I love the chemistry between Shayla and Zack, and adored their relationship in the beginning. I also enjoyed Shayla’s friendship with the people at Redemption and her co-workers Carly and Joe.

While I love how Zack and Shayla relationship is by the end of the story, I did have a problem with Zack’s possessiveness. One moment he would be sweet, the next he would be making Shayla’s choices for her, the very thing that tore them apart to begin with. The chemistry was there, but I felt like there relationship was mostly physical, which is something both characters say they don’t want at different points in the story. They both want love and yet I feel like they spend most of the time either ripping each other’s clothes off, or fighting. Before someone says it, yes I know this is erotic, it’s about the sex. But true relationships also need friendship and trust, and it seemed like Zach struggled with this part. Shayla even got upset at one point about his ‘cave-man behavior”, much of which seemed to come from this abusive childhood and his doubts and control issues after his fight with Okami.

That said, I loved how things turned out, it just seemed to take one step forward, two steps back through most of the book, that said, there was plenty of make-up sex to keep the story moving. If sexy alpha males are you thing, with mild BDSM suggestions, and steamy sex, then give this book a try!
