This was my first time reading anything by Barbara Russell, and what a wonderful treat it was! A sweet (clean) romance, paired with non-stop action and a beautifully written plot with superb world-building! Steampunk is so often tied to horror, which I only enjoy in small doses. Not so with this one, and I lapped it up in one heart-stopping chapter after another!

I loved how the plot and story are woven together blending the romance and action, steampunk elements and fantasy into a seamless pace and flow that makes it impossible to put down! The characters are another great part of the story. I quickly found I loved the whole cast, and am so glad I got to know them as their story plays out.

A wonderful story my a genre-bending master, Barbara Russell nailed this one with the skilled mastery of words and beautiful author magic to make both world-building and characters fit so perfectly into the story going on around them! 5 stars!

Bryhannon loves Nathair; however, she has a devastating power to control, Reapers to face, and more importantly she has to find the courage to tell him she’s one of the deadly, feared Morrigans.

I haven’t read the first book, but if it’s anything near as enjoyable as this one, I need to soon! Having not read the first, and this being a sequel, the odds were against me liking it so much, so I’m thrilled to say that it’s a hit!

I loved reading Bryhannon and Nathair’s story, and get the feeling, at least in part, that these can serve as stand-alones as they each seem to feature a different couple as the main characters, which served me just fine! I loved getting to meet some of the other characters too, and look forward to reading more of their stories as I read the others in the series!

I really enjoyed this one, and am glad to recommend it to readers of fantasy with romantic and Arthurian elements. I recommend reading the whole series, as they seem to be intended that way, but if one strikes your interest, then they can also be read as a stand alone, or out-of-order if you prefer. Recommended.

She really gets into Suzie’s head, showing the reader a look at the struggles and reasoning as she undertakes her journey, fleeing from her mom, to her father’s in fear of her mother’s boyfriend. I easily felt like I knew Suzie, like I was right there, cheering her on! I felt the author’s use of perspective, with the mother oblivious, Suzie a frightened teen, and the other characters falling somewhere in the side-lines, paired with the vast knowledge the author shows of equine behaviors, or horsemanship, this was both an highly entertaining and even educational read.

This story can likely be enjoyed by all ages, though it’s written for the YA group.  It’s both well written and easy to follow, making it easy to read quickly, and much harder to put down!

This story stands out as a well crafted and unique fantasy that spans several years throughout its pages. This story starts out strong, with a fierce heroine, interesting political system (one I haven’t seen before, and that actually made me look forward to seeing how things would play out), shocking twists!

I loved this book from the start, and as mentioned, found it to be very unique and enjoyable. As it plays over several years, it’s different from many other stories that might have similar summaries. In fact, with the MC’s tale of revenge, and the way the story’s laid out, the only thing I can compare it to is Well of Darkness (Sovereign Stone #1) by Margaret Weis. The biggest difference is that that was a series, and this a stand alone, so there’s nothing else to look forward to after this rather… dark and questionable ending.

Still, as mentioned, I did enjoy the first half immensely, and if you don’t mind a dark revenge story, this is an interesting story, and one that perhaps wasn’t my favorite, but still one that I felt the writing and plot were well done, and that could easily be enjoyed by others.

Laurel, Coll, and Chance’s sister, Carly, embark on a mission to rescue the horses and find a protected place where they can live wild and free.

This story starts off with a rescue mission, and the action and excitement never let up! Laurel’s friend Coll is visiting from Cornwall, but her plans to show him around the ranch are thrown in disarray, as a local herd of wild horses are in danger of being rounded up and sold for meat! Like many other horse focused series, this feels a bit like the type of plot expected in The Heartland Series, or for younger watchers The Saddle Club.

I really enjoyed this style, and read this one quickly, which was made easier as this story plays out like a show, and the detail and characters were both realistic and vivid enough that I read most of this in one sitting! The story does deal with some more mature issues teens face, other than the ‘meat packers’ there’s also issues of physical and alcohol abuse and some teen/YA type sexual awakening dealt with in the story. It’s nothing not mentioned in other books or shows, but still isn’t a completely ‘clean’ read either.

As mentioned above, I really liked the writing style used, and look forward to reading more like this from Ms. Bell’s work! While this is YA, adults can enjoy this too, and this actually is one of those stories that doesn’t really feel ‘too young’ if you enjoy The Heartland Series type TV show, then this has a similar feel!

Inspiring story of a girl whose disability is her greatest strength and brings the important message of never losing hope in hard situations and using misfortune to look for an opportunity to be kind.

The story takes you into the Andean Mountains of Peru to a remote village where you meet a young girl, named Matica, who worries about being shunned by the tribal people because of her growth disability that makes her different from everyone else.

And then the adventures begin, changing her life in marvellous way. Matica is delightful, caring, and undaunted by these giant birds and their offspring, she and her father rescue from poachers.

A young child with a disability, finds her place in a South American village.

Matica — is a 9 year-old stuck in a toddler’s body, unable to grow. The people in the Peruvian village where her Australian missionary father lived with the natives, tease Matica cruelly for her differences. That’s part of what I struggled with. Matica’s character, even because her disability, was…odd, and the villagers’ mistreatment, would have easily been a reason for her father to leave, or find her a safe home where she could grow up and learn better behavior. I felt that the author also tried to be logical, but ended up losing that threat soon on and parts of the story lacked the focus and quality of others.

As mentioned, there was good, I did like that the author tried to highlight disabilities in a positive light, or rather more accepting one as Matica’s disability has little effect on her personality and quick mind. In fact, she might possibly have been the only character I liked throughout the story. I also enjoyed the condor/wildlife part, and seeing Matica again showing her strengths, despite her unfortunate growth defect, proving that her size does not define her.

The good and bad are about even in this one, but Matica’s enjoyable nature bumps my rating up a bit, and makes it easier to praise this story. I’d enjoy more of her story, but wish the book was a smoother read, and that it had more focus on plot, avoiding the choppy transitions. Still, this story is an interesting middle-grade read, that can be enjoyed by all ages, and has some good messages of hope and finding your place and purpose in life that are universal.

Love stories with strong female lead, mythology and siren lore, atmospheric settings, and all the feels? Siren’s Call: Cursed Seas doesn’t disappoint!

I picked this one up without having seen or heard any mention of it, but suddenly many of the people I follow in the book community started talking about it, and I could wait to start reading. They were right! I loved reading Nerissa’s story, which is well written, and impossible to put down!

Mrs. McKinley really knows how to hook a reader, and even from the first page, I found I wanted to know more, and couldn’t get enough! I flew through this one, and loved every minute, from the witty dialogue to the suspense and surprises, this book has a little of everything, and the romance added an interesting balance to all the chaos.

When I found this one, I was wanting a story that combined mythology, romance, and plenty of emotions to pull on my heart-strings, boy did Siren’s Call: Cursed Seas deliver! It also introduced my to a new author, and as mentioned, was a title I hadn’t heard of before, so it was extra exciting how much I enjoyed it!

This story is perfect for fans of paranormal/fantasy romances written for upper YA readers who enjoy siren/mermaid lore, and stories set on or near the sea! I loved reading this one, and highly recommend it to readers who are looking for their next read! You know a book is good when it has both characters you can’t help but love, and those you love to hate! With complex personalities, and some well placed snark, these characters take on a life of their own, and I’d love to see similar stories from Mrs. Amy McKinley in the future!

I loved the characters in this story, and learn about their abilities as we unravel the mystery surrounding Thea. This story is unique and well written, plus easy to read, and hard to put down! I got a little bit of ‘I Am Number Four’ vibes, plus some ‘Whisper’ by Lynette Noni while reading this, but since I enjoyed both series, it makes me all the more excited to read more of this series too!

If I had one complaint, and the reason this isn’t 5 easy stars, it that there’s one point where things become slightly rushed, making it hard to follow the action and who was friend and who was foe for a short time.
